Learning outcomes Teaching strategy
Cognitive Objective :
Student should be able to :
1. Identify that a shadow is made when
an object blocks light. Shadows do not
always look like the object that makes
them.
2. Use first- hand experience.
3. Talk about risk and how to avoid danger.
4. Make and record observations
Methods and activity:
1.Brainstorming: Recognize that shadows are formed
when the light from a light source is blocked by an
opaque object.
1.1. Ask learners to identify things that make light in the
classroom.
1.2. Shadows can be a different shape.
2. Learners are asked to draw around a shadow. On a sunny
day, take the learners into the playground to make and
draw around their shadows.
2.1. Find patterns in the way that the size of shadows
change.
2.2. Learners will make a gap between themselves and
their shadow. Ask them whether they can touch the
head of their shadow.
2.3 Take learners outside and ask them to make shadow
monsters with their bodies, arms and legs. Challenge
them to make a shadow that has more than arms, two
legs and one hand.
3. Learners will be warned never to look directly at
bright light sources, especially the Sun, as this can
damage their eyes.
4. Group work: One learner can make a shadow; the
other can draw around the shadow with chalk. They
can swap roles. They can make shadows interesting
by changing how they stand.
2. 5. Identify simple patterns and
associations.
Skills Objective:
6. Talk about predictions (orally and in
text), the outcome and why this happened.
7. Ask questions and suggest ways to
answer them.
8. Make suggestions for collecting
evidence.
5. Help learners to understand the position of their
shadows, ask them to point at the Sun with one
hand and point at their shadow with the other.
Identify the association that their shadow is in the
opposite direction from the Sun.
5.1. Learners should find Activity 4.3A, 4.4A and 4.4B,
fun to do. To go outside and make a shape of their
shadow.
6. Ask learners to explain why the shadow has both
dark and light patches.
