Children will be expected to read every day, they
will have a quiet reading time at least two mornings
a week
One of these times will be with a reading
journal
One morning a week children will read in a group
with me. We will discuss ideas about the text, how
to improve our reading out loud and check
understanding.
Reading reviews are available to take home as
home learning which will help to ensure
understanding of the text
Children's books, once finished, are to be put in
the tray for changing. Children do not have to finish
a book every day.
11. SSppeelllliinnggss
Spellings will be set and tested once a
week
A list of words will be given to each
child which they should practice. They
can add their own words to this list.
There are some ideas on the blog for
more interactive ways to practice their
spellings
They will complete a Spelling
Investigation every Friday.

and craft, make a poster, drawings,
models…

In Year 3 we do not use Learning Journals
Instead we have Reading journals – these
are specifically used with books that children
are reading either at home or at school.
These books are used in school and at
home to help children to develop a deeper
understanding of the texts they are reading.
14. CCllaassssrroooomm RRuulleess
The children have created their own set of
‘promises’ for this year.
These are displayed in the classroom.
Children are expected to take responsibility
for their own behaviour.
Three-warning system – loss of break or
lunch time or a privilege.
