1. A- Analyze Learners
This lesson will be taught to a class of first grade special education
class.Thereare10boys,7girls. They are70%white,20%AfricanAmerican,and10%Hispanic. Also,7ofthestudentshavemildtosevereADHD. These
students should have been introduced to the months of the year already in
Kindergarten.
S-State Objectives
Thestudentsaregoingto memorizethe monthsoftheyearinthe span of a week using
asong, making a calendar, group poster project, discussion, and online
gamewith90%accuracy.
S-Select Methods, Media, and Materials
Monday-We will divide the months up into seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring, and
Summer. We will go over one season each day. First, we are going to watch a
YouTube video that has a song about the months of the year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4s-ut7N0jQ
We are then going to make a calendar showing all of the months of the year.
There will be one hanging up in the classroom as an example. These calendars
will be kept at the student’s desk for reference. As the week progresses and we
mention certain dates, such as Christmas is December 25th or John’s birthday
is March 3rd, we can add those onto the calendar.
Next, I am going to divide the children up into 4 groups. I will spread the ADHD
children into separate groups so they are not altogether. Each group will get 3
months of the year. They will work together to make a poster that shows the
things that happen during those months, such as activities they do during those
months (swimming, sledding, ect.), holidays that occur, or even their birthdays.
They will have the opportunity to look on a computer to get images to print out
for their poster. Each group will present their information on their assigned day.
Tuesday- December, January, and February: Winter.
Wednesday- March, April, and May: Spring.
Thursday- June, July, and August: Summer
Friday-September, October, and November: Fall.
During each of these days we will do similar things. When we begin the lesson
each day, we will sing the song that they watched on Monday as a refresher.
Then a group will present their poster. After that, we will have a class
discussion. The students will talk about what they do during those months as
well as what was talked about on the poster. By having a discussion in class it
gives the ADHD students time to talk and not have to sit in silence.
U-Utilize Media and Materials
The teacher will provide the poster board, markers, ect, that the students will need. I
will also designate a specific time where they can go and look on the internet for
2. ideas for their poster. The game I am using as an assessment at the end of each
day will be good for ADHD because it is something fun and interactive. Throughout
this project I will be using poster board, YouTube for the song, internet for research,
and internet again for the game assessment.

participation.
E-Evaluate and Revise
Instead of doing one assessment at the end of the week, I will be doing the same one
at the end of every lesson. When kids are younger it is all about repetition. There is a
game I found online where it has the image of a house. It highlights the name of each
month and shows how the weather changes throughout the months. Then they have to
match the names of the months to the correct picture. By the end of the week they
should be getting 90% of them right.
