The document discusses the effectiveness of a house style used across different products for a TV show. The house style incorporates consistent elements like main characters, a logo, repeating star shapes, and a flowing comic sans font. These elements make the products instantly recognizable without words and help create an original, identifiable brand. Feedback confirmed the house style would allow parents to easily identify related products in a store after seeing their child watch the TV show.
1. Question 2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
2. House style Main Protagonists: Magazine DVD Case Title Sequence On each product I have used the main protagonists. Therefore the DVD and Magazine can be instantly recognised from the characters without having to read any words. This is especially important for children as they would notice something like the character first. It is also important because you can instantly recognise the difference in class.
3. House style Magazine DVD Case Title Sequence This is the logo which I designed, this is really important within the House style as it almost gives the programme a brand. It also includes the name of the programme which is obviously important. I’d expect this to be on all future products, or if a website was designed I’d expect this on it. As it has been drawn it is also very original as drawing gave me more freedom. Logo/Name:
4. House style Magazine DVD Case Title Sequence I wanted a repeating shape within my House style, as you can see I chose a star. It is used in all three this stops it from looking so boring giving the background a change in colour and an explosive effect. This has worked well within the house style, and has incorporated well into the colour palette. I have also tried to incorporate this house style into my evaluation so that it links well with my final production pieces. Star Shape:
5. House style Magazine DVD Case Title Sequence A flowing font is also another part of my house style I wanted to get right. I have used comic sans for all my fonts apart from on the logo. This is because it is fun and clear to read. I think this has worked well. Font:
6. House style House style summed up : *Walk Of Life Logo *Main Protagonists *Purple and Pink Dots *Purple Background *Light yellow star background *squiggles around edge of images *Walk Of Life Logo Overall I think that my house style has worked well to create an original identifiable brand. House style is a good way of making it easy for your target audience to identify your products, especially children as they are more visual. Through out my research I realised it was conventional for Children TV dramas to have strong house styles, so followed this convention as it works well to create a brand. I asked my dad what he thought of my house style as I believe the target audience for a house style is a parent as they’d usually go out and buy the products as children don’t have the money… He said that he thought it was suitable for the targeted audience and if he were to go into a shop after seeing my little brother watching the programme he would definitely be able to tell that the magazine and DVD were associated with the TV programme. This is really positive feedback as it would most likely be the parents who would buy the extra products such as the DVD and magazine after seeing their child watch the programme, if he recognises that they are related products then I feel my house style has been successful in creating a recognisable brand.
