The document discusses the student's experience in a class on learning preferences and technology. It begins by explaining why they took the class and what they hoped to learn about using their iPhone. They learned they are a verbal learner and that knowing their preferences helps them focus on effective learning techniques. For their learning pathway, they chose the "Warrior" path to deeply explore the iPad, iPhone, and social media. They found apps and uses for these technologies that enhanced their learning. Going forward, they will continue using these tools for educational purposes in their career.
2. Why I took this class?
I wanted to learn how to further use technology I currently
use to better enhance my learning experience. I already
owned a iphone/ipod, so I figured I would learn how to use
it its full potential.
3. Personal Learning Preferences
I always knew I was a strong verbal learner, but I really had
no other ideal about other preferences. Before this class I
had no ideal what a global, sequential, active or reflection
learner was. I felt that being more aware of my strengths
and weakness has impacted my learning in a positive way.
Now that I know what kind of learner I am I can focus on
certain techniques that would benefit me.
5. General thoughts on learning
preferences
I think knowing your learning preferences definitely
makes a difference in your learning success because if you
try to learn something in a manner that you aren’t familiar
with or is not effective for you your learning is definitely
being affected.
For example if I’m trying to learn a subject and I only study
visual aids such as PowerPoint I know that I won’t really
learn the material as good, but if I could learn the material
verbally through lectures I know that I’ll learn the material
a lot better.
7. Warrior pathway
I chose the warrior path way because I wanted to only
learn a few technologies, but get to really know each one.
At the end of the semester, I definitely know each
technology more in depth now. For most of technologies I
already had some knowledge like the iPod, iPad and social
networks, but after taking this class I have definitely
learned how to use these technologies to benefit my
learning. A lot of benefits explained in the class I had
already started using like making digital flash cards or
using apps to record lecture during class.
8. Ipad
The ipad was one of the technologies I
chose to explore in my pathway. From
this class I learned about useful ways I
could use the ipad to benefit my
learning such as downloading helpful
educational apps and note taking apps.
I learned about app- Evernote
during one of the level 2
assignments. Since then I have
used it in all my classes. I love
that you can easily add text and
visuals to a word doc. Its also
free!
9. Ipod/Iphone
I also chose to explore the iphone because
I already owned one. I had already started
using my phone to record lectures, but
after taking this class I found more
educational uses for my phone such as
using it to download pod casts that are
related to my lecture material.
10. Social Networks
I chose facebook because I wanted to
learn about the different ways I could
use social networking to add to my
learning experience.
11. contribute to my learning
pathway
I really liked the predict, use, and evaluate assignments. I
feel like these helped me learn about a specifically
technology the most and it allowed me to explore specific
aspects that I had never heard of. For example the pod
cast in the ipod quest, I never thought to use a pod cast to
help me learn about something.
The quizzes really helped learn about each specific
technology because you really had to read through the
material to get the answers right. Some of the quiz
questions were really specific, so I really had to read each
slide in full detail.
12. Physiological factors and my
learning experience
After writing the paper on the Physiology of
Learning and writing a plan to incorporate diet
and exercise into my daily routine, I felt that it
definitely made a difference in my capacity to
learn. I felt that after writing a plan, I was
more conscious of what I ate and I did end up
eating healthier for awhile. I think that eating
healthier has definitely had the biggest impact
on my learning and just over all well-being. I
felt more focused when I eat healthier and less
groggy. I also feel around happier and more
confident. When I used to eat junk food I
would always feel tired and self conscious
about my weight. I also don’t have the guilt I
used to feel when I would pig out on junk food.
13. What I will take with me beyond
this semester
I will continue to use my iphone/ipad and Facebook for educational/learning
purposes. I feel that they serve not only as recreational tools, but valuable
educational tools. There are plenty of ways that my iphone can serve me on
my job as a med-tech; for example I use a medication app on my iphone to
look up meds that I don’t know. I also use the Internet on the phone to
Google signs and symptoms of a disease that I don’t know about. I could use
the iphone/ipad and Facebook for non learning purposes; I play plenty of
games on my iphone and I also use it for leisure reading.
14. Thoughts on the warrior pathway
I enjoyed taking the warrior pathway. I feel that is has
taught me how to use ipod, ipad and social networking to
its full potential, which is why I chose the pathway to
begin with.
If I could do anything differently it would be to chose
technologies that I wasn’t that familiar with such as
MMOG’s. I felt that I could have totally learned something
entirely brand new and it honestly seemed like a fun thing
to explore.
