2. With
8 units left to graduate, I decided to
take interest in the online course called
“How 2 Learn w/ ur iPod.” I had no idea
what this class would entail but I was
interested to find out. I was motivated to
graduate which ultimately made me decide
to take this course.
3. After
taking the learning preferences survey
at the beginning of the semester I learned a
great amount about my personal learning
preferences. My scores showed that I got a 5
on reflective, a 1 on sensory, a 3 on visual,
and a 1 on global. Scoring a majority of 1-3’s
shows that I am fairly balanced between the
two dimensions although survey proves that I
am a reflective and visual learner.
4.
5. I
believe there are different technologies
that attract certain learning preferences
within the individual. Learning preferences
make a powerful and meaningful difference
in a person’s learning success because that
particular individual can target tasks and
work in a more efficient way once knowing
and recognizing which preferences work for
them in the best possible way and which do
not.
6. I
chose the Learning Warrior pathway
because I wanted to gain a deeper
understanding of different technologies. I
believe this pathway was successful for my
personal learning tastes because it allowed
me to explore different technologies on a
deeper level such as iPods, iPads, and social
networking sites. All of these I was familiar
with but now feel more comfortable,
familiar, and knowledgeable about each of
these. It also allowed me to discover new
technologies I never used or thought to use
in the past.
7.
8.
By taking the quizzes that corresponded with each
technology, it helped me gain a broader understanding of
how to use the technology to learn. After reading the
PowerPoint’s and screencasts provided, the quizzes
allowed me to show what I had just learned and gave me
immediate feedback along with correct answers and where
to find them. Level 3 activities gave me a deeper
understanding of how to use and apply these within my
own personal life. It gave me a chance to practice and
learn what works best for me within each category as well
as evaluating each one after. The activities that worked
best for learning with others included posting questions
and feedback to one another as well as posting each
other’s links to our Pathbrites. This allowed us all to see
each other’s work and was not only extremely helpful but
interesting as well. I believe receiving feedback from peers
is an extremely important learning tool on both ends.
9.
The first technology quest I participated in was
iPods. iPods quickly accommodated my learning
preference because I could use it anywhere,
anytime, and could download learning aids
quickly and easily. I was able to download study
apps such as different flashcard apps to help me
become a stronger learner. Before I had never
used an app to help me study and I learned that
it is great way for me to become a quicker
leaner when dealing with memorization and
concepts. I used it to apply certain learning
preferences by having a visual study method
where I could repeat words over and over which
helped me memorize definitions without having
to write them down on paper over and over.
10.
I used my iPad to explore different apps such as
the app Evernote. This app was one of the best
educational apps for my particular learning
preferences I’ve ever used. It helped me an
immense amount and I am extremely proud of
the outcome. I found it easier to study on my
iPad then iPod because of a bigger screen and
was easier to use and type on. Because I am a
reflective and visual leaner this technology
really helped accommodate my personal learning
strategies and study habits. Also since I bring my
iPad with me wherever I go, this allowed me to
learn anywhere and aided me throughout classes
and free time.
11.
The third technology I used was social
networking sites. I use social networking sites
every day to either catch on news or explore
new things I am unfamiliar with. My favorite
social networking sites include Facebook and
Pinterest along with exploring new ones daily.
I’ve always used social networking websites for
fun until I realized by taking this class that it is a
great learning technology. Because I am a
reflective visual learner, using these sites allows
me to go on my own time to explore these sites
and reflect on the information I am reading. It
also allows me to share with others and get
feedback which in the end allows me to find
more knowledge upon a particular subject.
12.
I feel that I have a great amount of experience with different
technologies after participating in this course. I believe that the
social networking sites was the best technology for my personal
preferences. I believe sharing knowledge on these sites is a
powerful way to learn, allowing each individual to partake in the
conversation and contribute whatever they can to the
information being allocated. I also think learning from others who
are different from me is extremely important to help broaden
ones open-mindfulness and knowledge of the world we live in.
The app Evernote surprised me the most in being extremely
helpful because I had never even thought to use an app to guide
me with my studies. The specific technologies that did not help
me as much were games and microblogs purely because I have no
interest in playing computer games. The specific technology
categories that worked best for me were social networking sites,
multi-media, and iPod technologies such as different learning
apps. Due to my visual learning, multi-media makes a great
learning aid to get different perspectives about what you are
learning at the time. Social networking sites and my iPod made it
easy for me to communicate with others, broaden my knowledge,
and target my best study habits.
13.
Growing up I have maintained a healthy and active lifestyle but I chose to explore
this on a deeper level in order to improve my learning. One of my goals was to
exercise more, get more hours of sleep, and drink more water. All three of these
things have given me more energy and allowed me to concentrate better throughout
my daily activities between work and school. Not only do I feel healthier and
happier but I am more motivated to get out and do more, learn more, and
participate more. Knowing about physiological aspects of learning affected my own
learning because it gave me a chance to realize what was going on within my own
body and brain. Some people don’t even take the time to educate themselves of
their own bodies which is why many people create an unhealthy lifestyle. Knowing
about different physiological aspects of learning has motivated me to stay healthy
and keep my body working in the most positive ways to get the best outcome on a
daily basis. It is important to treat your body well in order to be a healthy learner
as well.
Knowledge of physiological factors and aspects of learning helps promote my own
well-being because I know what targets different factors in my life. If I can’t pay
attention, feel tired and lazy, I know I am not exercising enough or not eating right.
I also can tell right away if I have not attained enough hours of sleep by how
productive my brain is at work or school that day. Knowledge of physiological factors
is so important to keep us healthy and happy within our lives.
14.
I will continue using mostly all of the learning strategies I have
learned this semester even after this class. I am open to learning
new things always and believe the best way to keep growing as
an individual is to be open to new strategies and techniques.
Each of these learning strategies can be used at a job and not
just in school because I have already been using them within my
work environment. Knowing my personal learning preferences
creates an easier pathway for me to follow at my job and while
learning new duties that are implemented into my job title as I
grow within the company. I will continue to integrate
physiological factors and aspects of learning into my personal
learning practices in order to obtain the best possible me there is
as well as social factors. Everything I have learned I will carry
with me which ultimately will only help me grow in every way
possible.
15. Overall,
I have truly enjoyed being a
Learning Warrior. I have felt from the
beginning that this was the correct path for
me to follow and I have learned an immense
amount about myself as a learner and new
tips I will be able to carry with me for the
future. Everything this class had to offer has
showed me different ways to complete tasks
and use the different technologies that our
world has to offer us. I am extremely
satisfied with this course and hope to use my
knowledge as much as possible.
