EDUARDO LUIS CABALAR, ELIJAH LINGAD,
AND DANIKA PABILONA
LEARNING PREFERENCE

At the beginning of the class, my scores for the learning preference
survey were active (3), sensing (3), visual (5), and sequential (5).
Throughout this semester, I’ve noticed that I really do tend to use each
learning styles. I’m very active during class because I tend to answer the
professors questions while participating and interacting with others. By
staying active I noticed how I incorporated my other learning styles into
my learning. This was the case because while I was active in my classes
I was able to pay attention to small details and visualize things much
easier by using my sensory skills to remember certain information and
details. Moreover by following that order of learning you can also say it’s
sequential. By using these four learning preferences together I believe I
was able to improve my learning.

Eduardo Luis Cabalar
LEARNING PREFERENCE CONT.

At the beginning of class, my scores for the learning preference survey
were Active (7), Sensing (1), Visual (11), and sequential (3). While doing
each quest throughout the semester, I believe that Visual and Sensing
were my strong points over all the rest. Visual aids were very helpful
whenever I needed to learn more about one of the subjects that I was
taking this semester. If I knew what something looked like, it was more
easy for me to assess what it’s used for and things of that sort. Within
other classes, I’ve noticed that I used multimedia a lot, which further
proved that visual is the strongest learning style for me. I don’t think
active was very active for me. It was hard to participate in inclass
activities or even just staying awake throughout the class, but I think
that’s more personal preferences. I don’t think my thinking about my
learning preferences has changed too much. The only thing really is that
Active isn’t my strong point.

Elijah Lingad
LEARNING PREFERENCE CONT.

When I first took the learning preferences at the beginning of class, my
survey score were (3) active learner, (11) sensing learner, (7) visual
learner, and (5) sequential learner. At the end of the class, my learning
preferences changed a bit. Most of it remained the same because as I
tried new methods it didn’t seem to work well for me. For instance, I could
never find anything we did in this class as intuitive. As for everything else
visual, verbal, sensory, active, reflective, sequential, and global, they
were all learning preferences I was able to apply to our quests in the
class. In fact, most of the quest included all of these preferences and I
did end up learning in the end.

Danika Pabilona
LEARNING PREFERENCE THOUGHTS

Overall, as a group our learning preferences have not really changed at
all. Eduardo has and always have been an active, sensing, visual and
sequential learner. Elijah has always been an active visual learner. Lastly,
Danika has always been a sensing, visual and sequential learner. We
believe that learning preferences are a good learning tool to know about
because it’s the way that we’re used to learning. So having knowledge
about it makes it easier for ourselves.Yes, knowing about the learning
preferences makes a difference in our personal learning success
because we can use them to our advantages to help benefit and improve
our learning. Before taking this class we didn’t even realize there were
different learning methods.
LEARNING PATHWAYS

The learning pathway I chose was learning guide. I chose this path
because I felt that it would be a great opportunity to work and learn with
others that aren’t as knowledgeable about technology. I felt that I was
able to use mobile technologies such as my iPad and iPhone to both
learn with and help others learn. By using my iPad and iPhone I was able
to teach certain aspects about these technologies to my friends that they
never knew. For example, one friend only used their iPad for music and
games. I told them of certain apps that they could use to help improve
their learning such as a flash card app and PDF-notes, which is an app
where you’re able to read PDF files and take notes on them. I also told
them which social networking apps can be used for learning and
educational purposes on mobile technologies. I didn’t change my learning
path because I felt that by learning about mobile technologies with
others, I was able to broaden my knowledge.

Eduardo Luis Cabalar
LEARNING PATHWAYS CONT.
The learning pathway that I chose was learning warrior. The reason that I
chose this pathway was because I didn’t do too well last semester. I did
bad enough that I’m actually on academic probation with SFSU right now.
So with that being said, I believed that applying what I learned in this
class throughout this semester would improve my performance so that I
could get out of probation. I, more or less, was successful in digging into
a deeper knowledge of mobile technologies. Thinking about mobile, I
thought I would be able to use my iPhone and maybe use applications
that would help me remember due dates, keep my schedule together,
help me study for tests or even just remind me TO study for these tests.
There were a lot of applications that people contributed in the forums that
helped me greatly. I didn’t change my learning path because it was
helping me greatly. I felt a little motivated, and with all the help, I stuck to
it.

Elijah Lingad
LEARNING PATHWAYS CONT.
The learning pathway I chose in the beginning of class was a learning
warrior. I chose this pathway because this class seems like there is a lot
of materials that are helpful in my other classes that I could apply to.
There was a lot about technology that I didn’t know about and I felt like
this class would help me learn more about them. Then once I became
comfortable with the material I could apply it to my other classes. Yes, I
was successful in having a deeper knowledge of mobile technologies as
learning warrior. For instance, the multimedia quest, I didn’t realize that
text was considered a multimedia. No, since the class has started I did
not change my learning pathway. I felt as if this pathway suite me best.

Danika Pabilona
ACTIVITY CONTRIBUTIONS

In all of the quests, we believe that the level one quizzes and level 2
activities where we predict, use, and evaluate helped us have a broader
and deeper understanding of how to use mobile technology to learn. In
order to do well in the quizzes, we needed to listen to the Screenr that
was provided for the quest and look at the powerpoints to help answer
the questions to the quiz. However, Eduardo, Danika and Elijah
personally felt that the powerpoint had more than enough information on
it and it sets you up for the rest of the quest. As for the predict, use, and
evaluate form entries, it allowed us to see if we were able to learn from it
with our learning preferences. The class gave us something to learn and
it was up to us and how we chose to learn the material. The best
activities that worked best for learning with others to use mobile
technologies was level forum/group discussion. We were able to ask
questions about things we wanted to learn and anyone in the class could
give us an input.
TOP MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The top mobile technology quest that I explored for my learning is the
iPad & Tablets quest. At first I didn’t think that the iPad would help me in
learning but I’m glad to have found out that it can do more then just play
music and games. After learning more about iPads and tablets I explored
my iPad with my own learning by using it in various ways of learning such
as taking notes, recording lectures, studying for quizzes and test, and so
on. By doing this I was able to do well in the other classes that I used my
iPad for. The iPad helped accommodate me because I was able to use
my visual and active learning styles. I stayed active by taking notes on
the iPad and used these notes to help me study. I used my visual style of
learning because I had to use the iPad for specific readings for the class
and took notes on the readings which helped me remember certain terms
and definitions.

Elijah also explored further into blogs and microblogs. My reasoning
being that, as a teenager that's still growing up, I'm more familiar with
platforms such as Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and things of that sort. In
the past, I've used it for my own personal reasons, but for this class, I
explored the productive side of these websites and applications. For
example, I searched hash tags that related to my communication class,
such as "public speaking" or "spoken word poetry" just to get a feel of
what the class demanded of me. Little did I know, there were a lot of
people out there who are very knowledgeable on this topic and I found
quite a few amazing writers. I also used Tumblr as a means to put out
there my work to get feedback before I presented in class. Blogs and
microblogs accommodated my active and visual preferences because it
caused me to look for pieces as well as inspired me to write my own.

SYNTHESIS
The mobile technologies that interested our group the most as far as a
learning tool was the iPad, iPods and iPhones. We believe this because we
can carry it around wherever we go and it has almost everything we need to
help our learning. These apple products have applications that help us stay
organized, engage in class, take notes and even record certain lectures to
help further improve our learning. Elijah who has used his iPod/iPhone says
those two technologies works just as good as an iPad in terms of learning
because he was able to do the things that Danika and Eduardo did with their
iPads. Elijah felt that podcasts didn’t seem to work as a learning tool because
sometimes they’re too long and can have unnecessary information. Danika
felt twitter didn’t seem to help much as a learning tool because it was more
for socializing rather than learning. However, Eduardo felt that microblogs
such as twitter, instagram, and tumblr didn’t work as a learning tools because
they tend to distract people and is often times not used for learning. Mobile
technologies that Elijah and Danika want to explore further to improve their
learning are microblogs. However even though Eduardo feels that microblogs
are not a successful tool in learning he would like to try and prove it wrong.
SYNTHESIS
The mobile technologies that worked best for our groups learning
preferences were blogging, microblogs and iPads & Tablets. Blogging
was effective for Danika because she could rely on Tumblr as a great
news source and there are many reliable journalists that have good and
insightful blogs. Microblogs were effective for Elijah’s learning
preferences because he has always used them even before
understanding and learning that they could be able to be used for
learning. He could use microblogs visually to help spread and learn new
information. iPads & tablets were effective for Eduardo’s learning
preferences because he could use it for anything. Whether it was to gain
information or even study, the iPad helped improve his learning in a way
that he never learned before. All of these technologies applied well to our
learning preferences and helped improve our learning capabilities.
SUMMARY
After this class our group will continue to use our iPads and iPods. Danika will continue to use
her iPad and laptop, Eduardo will continue to use his iPad more and Elijah will do similar
things except with his iPhone. Our iPads and iPods have access to all types of applications
that can be used for certain classes to help further improve our learning. As for laptops, it’s a
fast item to help us accomplish and engage in certain educational games as well as blogs.
Both seem to help us learn more than we would in a class and we all know that outside of a
classroom, this would be much more helpful. These technologies can be used for learning at a
job because we’re able to use it as a data planner. We’re able to have easy access to pull up
all types of information online to help us in our everyday jobs. The same thing applies to social
networking websites with friends. This is so we can connect with others in our job and either
get information from them or give them information. Danika will continue to use instagram as a
non-learning technology purpose because it is a fun application on her iPhone that helps kill
time. Elijah, on the other hand, will start following users that help him with educational
purposes on all types of microblogs. Lastly, Eduardo will use continue using his iPad for non-
learning purposes by listening to music and playing games. However when the time comes
and school starts again, we will use all the new information we learned about mobile
technologies and continue to use them in our next batch of classes.

Synthesis

  • 1. MOBILE SYNTHESIS PROJECT BY EDUARDO LUIS CABALAR, ELIJAH LINGAD, AND DANIKA PABILONA
  • 2. LEARNING PREFERENCE At the beginning of the class, my scores for the learning preference survey were active (3), sensing (3), visual (5), and sequential (5). Throughout this semester, I’ve noticed that I really do tend to use each learning styles. I’m very active during class because I tend to answer the professors questions while participating and interacting with others. By staying active I noticed how I incorporated my other learning styles into my learning. This was the case because while I was active in my classes I was able to pay attention to small details and visualize things much easier by using my sensory skills to remember certain information and details. Moreover by following that order of learning you can also say it’s sequential. By using these four learning preferences together I believe I was able to improve my learning. Eduardo Luis Cabalar
  • 3. LEARNING PREFERENCE CONT. At the beginning of class, my scores for the learning preference survey were Active (7), Sensing (1), Visual (11), and sequential (3). While doing each quest throughout the semester, I believe that Visual and Sensing were my strong points over all the rest. Visual aids were very helpful whenever I needed to learn more about one of the subjects that I was taking this semester. If I knew what something looked like, it was more easy for me to assess what it’s used for and things of that sort. Within other classes, I’ve noticed that I used multimedia a lot, which further proved that visual is the strongest learning style for me. I don’t think active was very active for me. It was hard to participate in inclass activities or even just staying awake throughout the class, but I think that’s more personal preferences. I don’t think my thinking about my learning preferences has changed too much. The only thing really is that Active isn’t my strong point. Elijah Lingad
  • 4. LEARNING PREFERENCE CONT. When I first took the learning preferences at the beginning of class, my survey score were (3) active learner, (11) sensing learner, (7) visual learner, and (5) sequential learner. At the end of the class, my learning preferences changed a bit. Most of it remained the same because as I tried new methods it didn’t seem to work well for me. For instance, I could never find anything we did in this class as intuitive. As for everything else visual, verbal, sensory, active, reflective, sequential, and global, they were all learning preferences I was able to apply to our quests in the class. In fact, most of the quest included all of these preferences and I did end up learning in the end. Danika Pabilona
  • 5. LEARNING PREFERENCE THOUGHTS Overall, as a group our learning preferences have not really changed at all. Eduardo has and always have been an active, sensing, visual and sequential learner. Elijah has always been an active visual learner. Lastly, Danika has always been a sensing, visual and sequential learner. We believe that learning preferences are a good learning tool to know about because it’s the way that we’re used to learning. So having knowledge about it makes it easier for ourselves.Yes, knowing about the learning preferences makes a difference in our personal learning success because we can use them to our advantages to help benefit and improve our learning. Before taking this class we didn’t even realize there were different learning methods.
  • 6. LEARNING PATHWAYS The learning pathway I chose was learning guide. I chose this path because I felt that it would be a great opportunity to work and learn with others that aren’t as knowledgeable about technology. I felt that I was able to use mobile technologies such as my iPad and iPhone to both learn with and help others learn. By using my iPad and iPhone I was able to teach certain aspects about these technologies to my friends that they never knew. For example, one friend only used their iPad for music and games. I told them of certain apps that they could use to help improve their learning such as a flash card app and PDF-notes, which is an app where you’re able to read PDF files and take notes on them. I also told them which social networking apps can be used for learning and educational purposes on mobile technologies. I didn’t change my learning path because I felt that by learning about mobile technologies with others, I was able to broaden my knowledge. Eduardo Luis Cabalar
  • 7. LEARNING PATHWAYS CONT. The learning pathway that I chose was learning warrior. The reason that I chose this pathway was because I didn’t do too well last semester. I did bad enough that I’m actually on academic probation with SFSU right now. So with that being said, I believed that applying what I learned in this class throughout this semester would improve my performance so that I could get out of probation. I, more or less, was successful in digging into a deeper knowledge of mobile technologies. Thinking about mobile, I thought I would be able to use my iPhone and maybe use applications that would help me remember due dates, keep my schedule together, help me study for tests or even just remind me TO study for these tests. There were a lot of applications that people contributed in the forums that helped me greatly. I didn’t change my learning path because it was helping me greatly. I felt a little motivated, and with all the help, I stuck to it. Elijah Lingad
  • 8. LEARNING PATHWAYS CONT. The learning pathway I chose in the beginning of class was a learning warrior. I chose this pathway because this class seems like there is a lot of materials that are helpful in my other classes that I could apply to. There was a lot about technology that I didn’t know about and I felt like this class would help me learn more about them. Then once I became comfortable with the material I could apply it to my other classes. Yes, I was successful in having a deeper knowledge of mobile technologies as learning warrior. For instance, the multimedia quest, I didn’t realize that text was considered a multimedia. No, since the class has started I did not change my learning pathway. I felt as if this pathway suite me best. Danika Pabilona
  • 9. ACTIVITY CONTRIBUTIONS In all of the quests, we believe that the level one quizzes and level 2 activities where we predict, use, and evaluate helped us have a broader and deeper understanding of how to use mobile technology to learn. In order to do well in the quizzes, we needed to listen to the Screenr that was provided for the quest and look at the powerpoints to help answer the questions to the quiz. However, Eduardo, Danika and Elijah personally felt that the powerpoint had more than enough information on it and it sets you up for the rest of the quest. As for the predict, use, and evaluate form entries, it allowed us to see if we were able to learn from it with our learning preferences. The class gave us something to learn and it was up to us and how we chose to learn the material. The best activities that worked best for learning with others to use mobile technologies was level forum/group discussion. We were able to ask questions about things we wanted to learn and anyone in the class could give us an input.
  • 10. TOP MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES The top mobile technology quest that I explored for my learning is the iPad & Tablets quest. At first I didn’t think that the iPad would help me in learning but I’m glad to have found out that it can do more then just play music and games. After learning more about iPads and tablets I explored my iPad with my own learning by using it in various ways of learning such as taking notes, recording lectures, studying for quizzes and test, and so on. By doing this I was able to do well in the other classes that I used my iPad for. The iPad helped accommodate me because I was able to use my visual and active learning styles. I stayed active by taking notes on the iPad and used these notes to help me study. I used my visual style of learning because I had to use the iPad for specific readings for the class and took notes on the readings which helped me remember certain terms and definitions. Eduardo Luis Cabalar
  • 11. TOP MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES CONT. Elijah also explored further into blogs and microblogs. My reasoning being that, as a teenager that's still growing up, I'm more familiar with platforms such as Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and things of that sort. In the past, I've used it for my own personal reasons, but for this class, I explored the productive side of these websites and applications. For example, I searched hash tags that related to my communication class, such as "public speaking" or "spoken word poetry" just to get a feel of what the class demanded of me. Little did I know, there were a lot of people out there who are very knowledgeable on this topic and I found quite a few amazing writers. I also used Tumblr as a means to put out there my work to get feedback before I presented in class. Blogs and microblogs accommodated my active and visual preferences because it caused me to look for pieces as well as inspired me to write my own. Elijah Lingad

  • 13. SYNTHESIS The mobile technologies that interested our group the most as far as a learning tool was the iPad, iPods and iPhones. We believe this because we can carry it around wherever we go and it has almost everything we need to help our learning. These apple products have applications that help us stay organized, engage in class, take notes and even record certain lectures to help further improve our learning. Elijah who has used his iPod/iPhone says those two technologies works just as good as an iPad in terms of learning because he was able to do the things that Danika and Eduardo did with their iPads. Elijah felt that podcasts didn’t seem to work as a learning tool because sometimes they’re too long and can have unnecessary information. Danika felt twitter didn’t seem to help much as a learning tool because it was more for socializing rather than learning. However, Eduardo felt that microblogs such as twitter, instagram, and tumblr didn’t work as a learning tools because they tend to distract people and is often times not used for learning. Mobile technologies that Elijah and Danika want to explore further to improve their learning are microblogs. However even though Eduardo feels that microblogs are not a successful tool in learning he would like to try and prove it wrong.
  • 14. SYNTHESIS The mobile technologies that worked best for our groups learning preferences were blogging, microblogs and iPads & Tablets. Blogging was effective for Danika because she could rely on Tumblr as a great news source and there are many reliable journalists that have good and insightful blogs. Microblogs were effective for Elijah’s learning preferences because he has always used them even before understanding and learning that they could be able to be used for learning. He could use microblogs visually to help spread and learn new information. iPads & tablets were effective for Eduardo’s learning preferences because he could use it for anything. Whether it was to gain information or even study, the iPad helped improve his learning in a way that he never learned before. All of these technologies applied well to our learning preferences and helped improve our learning capabilities.
  • 15. SUMMARY After this class our group will continue to use our iPads and iPods. Danika will continue to use her iPad and laptop, Eduardo will continue to use his iPad more and Elijah will do similar things except with his iPhone. Our iPads and iPods have access to all types of applications that can be used for certain classes to help further improve our learning. As for laptops, it’s a fast item to help us accomplish and engage in certain educational games as well as blogs. Both seem to help us learn more than we would in a class and we all know that outside of a classroom, this would be much more helpful. These technologies can be used for learning at a job because we’re able to use it as a data planner. We’re able to have easy access to pull up all types of information online to help us in our everyday jobs. The same thing applies to social networking websites with friends. This is so we can connect with others in our job and either get information from them or give them information. Danika will continue to use instagram as a non-learning technology purpose because it is a fun application on her iPhone that helps kill time. Elijah, on the other hand, will start following users that help him with educational purposes on all types of microblogs. Lastly, Eduardo will use continue using his iPad for non- learning purposes by listening to music and playing games. However when the time comes and school starts again, we will use all the new information we learned about mobile technologies and continue to use them in our next batch of classes.
