2. When I first took the learning preference survey, I
was actually surprised how accurate it was. I accrued
a score of 3 for Active, Sensing, Visual, and
Sequential. The descriptions and definitions of the
styles totally explained my learning habits and how I
like to learn. Throughout the entire semester, when
doing assignments, I would see how my learning
preferences manifest in the way I was doing my
work. Overall, my thinking hasn’t changed at all in
regards to my learning preferences. I think knowing
your strengths and weaknesses is an essential tool in
school and in life. If you know you learn better one
way then another then you could use those to your
advantage.
Tim
3. ◦ My learning preference- When I took my learning
preference survey, I received a 5 for Active, a 3 for
Sensing, a 1 for Visual, and a 3 for Sequential. I didn’t
believe in the learning preferences at first, but after doing
the quests, I could see some of my learning preferences
manifest, and I learned that if you know your learning
style, it will greatly help in what you do. My thinking about
the learning preferences has taken a 180 degree spin. I
went from not believing in them t completely
understanding the use and necessity.
Shaun
4. ◦ When first beginning the semester, I would be lying if I
didn’t say that I was a little skeptical about the whole
learning preference concept. I didn’t understand what
they were for or what they would be used for, after
taking the survey and experiencing the class more, I
understood the merit(s) of knowing your learning
preference. I can safely say that I am now an advocate of
knowing your learning style(s). Knowing your learning
preference does make a difference in your personal
learning success. If you understand your strengths, then
you can cater assignments to fit your learning
style, which in turn would make understanding the
subject matter easier and doing the actual assignment
that much easier.
Tim
5. My overall thinking has changed quite a bit since the
semester started. I went from being a non-believer
to a believer. The idea of knowing how you learn is
really cool and interesting, but just because you
understand how your mind works does not
necessarily make learning easier or more successful. I
don’t think that because you are aware of your
learning style(s) it will automatically make you a
better learner. So in my opinion, no, I don’t think
knowing your learning preference will make a
difference in your personal learning success. Knowing
your learning style won’t make up for the fact that
you don’t understand a subject.

6. The learning pathway I chose at the beginning of
the semester was a Learning Sage. I was able to
follow the path throughout the semester and I was
successful in gaining a broader sense of mobile
technologies. Due to the way the class was set
up, I was able to learn about a vast number of
topics ranging from screencasts to micro-blogs.
And because I was on the path of the Learning
Sage, I was able to grasp the general idea for each
topic. I find it extremely useful to be a “jack of all
trades” when it comes to technology. I enjoyed the
fact that I was able to pick up the general idea for
each quest. Because the learning pathway fit my
learning style, I did not change it.
Tim
7. The learning pathway I chose at the beginning of the
semester was to be a Learning Guide. I liked the idea
of being able to combine learning and working with
others, but midway through the semester I did end
up changing my pathway. I went from a Learning
Guide to a Learning Sage. I was generally pretty
successful as a Learning Sage because all of the
technologies we were learning about kept me pretty
interested and they were all relevant in today’s world
Shaun
8. Overall, the assignments as a whole did a pretty good job in
keeping me on my learning pathway. The quizzes, the
forums, and link tagging via delicious were really helpful in
keeping me focused and structured on the Learning Sage
Path. Those quests allowed me to better understand how to
use the mobile technology and it did an excellent job at
showing me more about that technology. Because I had to
watch the power points, research articles, and take the
quizzes, it helped me as an independent learner. An example
of this would be learning about iPods and mp3s. I wasn’t
aware that they were used for anything more than music,
until I found out that mp3s and iPods could be used to
transfer files, just like a USB. The best activity to help me
learn with others, was obviously the forums. Because I was
getting feedback from others and vice-versa, I was able to
understand the information better and it was nice to work
with other students.
Tim
9. The activity that really helped me broaden my
understanding of mobile technologies was the
ipod/mp3 activities. By completing some of the
activities such as putting flashcards on your ipod, I was
impressed on how easy and efficient it was to learn
from your ipod. Having information at your fingertips is
a huge advantage. The same activity also showed me
how you can use mobile technology to learn. In terms of
using mobile technologies to work with others, I think
that using microblogs is probably the most effective
way. The fact that you can connect to millions of people
instantly is incredible. It’s also nice that you are able to
receive information in real time as well, so you will
always be in the loop.
Shaun
10. My favorite mobile technology quest was the micro-blog
section. Before taking the quest, I thought Twitter was the
only one, but then I learned there were plenty more micro-
blogging websites out there. I was actually surprised by
how effective microblogging was as an educational tool.
With the right mindset and purpose, microblogging was a
great and effective way to learn. I think mobile technology
accommodates a good chunk of my learning preferences.
Being a visual and active learner, I am able to do the
assignments and learn about the technologies on the go
as well as in the comfort of my own home. I am able to do
the assignments for example, on the MUNI whenever I
have time
Tim
11. The ipod/mp3 technologies helped a lot in
covering my learning styles. Since I am a visual
and a sensing learner, being able to interact with
my ipod and applying it to real life scenarios, I
was able to learn at a quicker pace, and it made
learning much simpler. I decided to use the ipod
to learn a different language, and since it was on
my ipod, I was able to stop the podcast(s) and
look stuff up if I was confused. The ability to
“play” with something really helped out.
Shaun
12. Of all the mobile technologies, the iPods, mp3s, and iPad interested me
most as learning tools. I really the like portability and efficiency of the
portable music devices. Of all these tools, I was really surprised that the
iPad would be a good efficient tool due to the fact that I used to think it
was a glorified iPod. Besides being a bigger iPod, the iPad is actually
really fun and a great way to learn via customizable apps. I think that all
the mobile technologies were effective tools. Each one had its own
merits and they were really useful in learning about mobile technologies.
To further my learning, I would like to further explore the use of the
podcasts. The idea and theories behind podcasts seem very forward
thinking and interesting. To be able to have “lectures” at your fingertips
is a very exciting idea. I like the fact that I could put a podcast on my
iPod and listen to a lecture on the go.
The mobile technologies that worked best with my learning style was
probably a combination of the podcasts and the iPod. Since I am a
sequential learner, it was nice that I was able to subscribe to a
podcast, and get daily or weekly podcasts that I could follow. I like the
fact that I was getting a constant and timely stream of podcasts , so I
was able to keep up and keep a record of which I was listening too.
Tim
13. My favorite technology to utilize during this time was the
ipod/mp3. I’m a huge Apple fan and being able to play with my
ipod and learn with it at the same time is a huge win/win
scenario. Again, the ipod surprised me at how efficient it could
be used as a learning tool. I knew you could use the ipod for
learning, but I didn’t know how far or to what lengths you could
utilize the little device. The technology that disappointed me the
most was the ipad. It basically is a larger iphone, and with that in
mind, it seemed a little repetitive to use and iphone/ipod for
learning and to use a ipad as well.
The technology that worked best for my learning preference
was again the ipod. The device hit home as far as learning
preferences are concerned. I am a visual, active, sensing, and
sequential learner and the ipod met all of my needs and
requirements. I really like the fact that I can have a device in my
hand and always be interacting with the ipod in some way
instead of just reading information off from a book.
Shaun
14. After this semester, I actually look forward to using many of the other social
learning technologies. I will definitely be using the Social Networking and
MMORPG social technologies after this class. Social Networking will be really
easy to utilize at a job via networking and getting to know other co-
workers, but the MMORPG technology will not really be utilized at all in a
workspace environment.
I will be definitely utilize the Social Networking and MMORPGs after
completing this class. I really enjoyed the social technologies because
connecting and interacting with others is always really fun and it makes
learning a lot easier. Being able to socialize with other human beings makes
using this technology more exciting. I don’t think I will be avoiding any of
these technologies after this class due to the fact that all of these
technologies are already heavily utilized in today’s society, so there would be
no way to ignore or avoid them. Everyone is playing games, “everyone” is on
Facebook, and almost everything worth knowing nowadays is always tagged
and or bookmarked.
Tim
15. I will definitely use the ipod and microblog learning strategies
after this class has ended. I love that I am able to put and utilize
flashcards on my ipod, so the next time I have to study terms
and or definitions for an exam, the ipod is what I am heading
towards. I also really like using microblogs aka twitter because it
allows me to ask questions to students instantly and I can
receive feedback instantly as well.
I will utilize all the technologies that have been presented to
me outside of the classroom, except for the ipad. The reason for
that is because I don’t actually own my own, and it would be kind
of useless to own a glorified ipod. I don’t think the price of the
ipad justifies its use. It’s just a little too expensive for me. On
the other hand, I will use my ipod and twitter on a regular basis,
so it won’t be much of a difference.
