4. My Ideal Reader Questionnaire has taught me various things. Firstly it has made me realise that the
majority of the people interested in the magazine I am planning to make are female, however a large
percentage of them are male so I should still make my magazine applicable to both genders.
Secondly I have learnt that my readers would mainly be between 11-20 years old so I should try and
aim my magazine at a teenage audience, while still appealing to younger & older readers.
I have also learnt that the internet plays a big part in my readers’ lives so I should perhaps look into
creating an online magazine for readers who may prefer to use their internet to read my magazine.
The Majority of my readers get their music from illegal mp3 downloads, so perhaps as a music
magazine, we should look into a way to find a cheap alternative to illegal downloads as we need the
music industry to flourish while still keeping our readers happy.
The Genre of music that is preferred varies from reader to reader. So perhaps I should have a
magazine that focuses on various types of music, not just one. This could mean there is more of a
niche in the market for my magazine, as most magazines only focus on one genre of music.
The questionnaire suggests that readers enjoy posters of their favourite artists in magazines so that
is something I believe my magazine should offer. Competitions also seem to be favoured in many
readers, and I have been given many ideas of music related prizes that readers would be interested
in winning. A competition is also a good way to boost sales.
The questionnaire also tells me that readers prefer a front page with a lot of information so I should
look into a way of doing this without cluttering the page and making it look unprofessional.
Nearly 100% of readers are interested in gig and tour information so I have decided to keep a section
of the magazine purely for such information and I will also try and get exclusive information on tours
and ticket sales before anywhere else.
This questionnaire has also taught me that most of my magazine readers do not want to spend more
than 2 pounds on a magazine, I will try my best to make this possible, and hopefully at least not go
over the limit of £3 while keeping the magazine looking as great, if not better than its competitors.
