1. Introduction
The aim of this final assignment is to understand the components and elements
of a town and what makes a better livable and sustainable town. It is divided into
2parts.
As mayor of “X” town, each student will have to propose a new layout for a town
because of reasons that is too crowded. The “X” town conditions:
- Size should be about 30 x 30km
- Population in between 80,000-200,000
This is the final project for the elements of Natural Build Environment. The title
of the project is “The Future Town Representation”. The future town
representation is about proposing a future city. When proposing the future town
there are something important that must consider which is sustainability,
efficiency, food supply and energy supply. We need to refer to the ancient town,
present town, and future town. The things that have to look into from those town
are people, shape, zoning, and the history, those elements that can helps to
proposing the town.

2. The Town
2.1 WHAT IS TOWN
A town is a community of people ranging from a few hundred to several
thousands and is a human settlement larger than a village but smaller than a city.
Towns have particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local
law. It is a small society, sometimes referring to a small city. "Town" is the name
of a village, borough, or smaller city. Town have a less denser population than
the city, with a population that does not grow its own food.
2.2 WHAT IS THE BRIEF HISTORY
A brief history is a short history of a town that is built from maybe an ancient
times, or present time. It is a history of how the city is built. The word town shares
an origin with the German word Zaun, the Dutch word tuin, and the Old Norse
tun. In English and Dutch, the meaning of the word took on the sense of the
space which these fences enclosed. In England, a town was a small city that
could not afford or was not allowed to build walls or other larger fortifications, and
built a palisade or stockade instead. Town could refer to kinds of settlements as
diverse as agricultural estates and holdings, partly picking up the Norse sense at
one end of the scale, to fortified municipality at the other. All towns display
various degrees of forethought and conscious design in their layout and
functioning. At the beginning, humans built town beside a river which is more
convenient to them and the town change day by day.

2.3 What makes a city / town
A town needs to have transportation, government buildings, business area,
commercial area, recreational area, education are, religious and cultires area,
hospitals, services area, forest and green area and agriculture area.
Furthermore, Town also need organized town zoning that distinguish the town
and its environments and stunning monuments and vista that creates an identity
of the town. The form of town is influenced more by the arrangement of streets
and squares than by any other consideration. Town form has changed
dramatically through the ages.
Towns typically provide a variety of services to their inhabitants, including

(b) Transportation
(c) Water Supply
(d) Electrical Supply
(e) Food distribution
(f) Sanitation

2.4 What makes a good Town?
A good town is built with good organized areas and all of it is well maintained. A
good city has greener areas, sustainability, more public places for people to
connect with each other. A good Town must have suitable population, density,
good zoning, good access system, convenience, and environmental friendly.
Town should have at least one commanding building or group of buildings, they
can be a mosque, town hall or others.

2.5 What is the future Town?
Future town is a more sustainable and livable town which provides good
solutions to the problem facing by the current towns. A future Town aims to
reduce all the negative elements and achieve to be perfection. Let the resident
be more comfortable and have a high living standard. The future town focuses
more on the environmental issues and will become clean and green, free of
pollution, safer, and a greener environment to protect the originality of the town.

Ancient Town – Ancient Rome
3.1 When did it start? History and all/
Ancient Rome was founded by the two brothers, and demi-gods, Romulus and
Remus, on 21 April 753. Ancient Rome was an Italic civilization that began on the
Italian Peninsula as early as the 8th century BC. Located along the
Mediterranean Sea and centered on the city of Rome, it expanded to become
one of the largest empire in the ancient world with an estimated 50 to 90 million
inhabitants and covering 6.5 million square kilometers during its height between
the first and second centuries AD. Well, Athenian history is broad, long, and
varied, and we definitely dig into specifics on other areas. This section is for
general overviews and timelines to help give you a big picture perspective and an
overall context for the details.

Athens in the Mycenaean Age - There is very little recorded history about this
age, which lasted from around 1600 BC to 1100 BC. Athens plays only a
tangential role.
Athens and Alexander the Great - Because ancient Athens was the center of
Greek culture and Alexander the most famous of the ancient Greeks, many
people mistakenly assume Alexander was Athenian himself. His relationship to
Athens was actually much more complicated than that.
Athens in the Classical Age – An overview of he major stage and progression
of Athenian history during the Classical Age.
3.2 What ancient city are you concentrating on?
Athens, the birthplace of democrazy is a significant city in terms of its
architecture. Ancient Greek architecture is best known for its temple. Ancient
Greek Architecture is distinguished by its highly formalized characteristics, both
of structure and decoration. The Greeks developed three architectural system
which is Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.

3.4 Conclusion about the cities
Athens had proved itself to be the backbone for the birth of arts, literature,
sciences and philoshophy. This shows that in order for a town to reach its peak.
3.5 information and element for my new future town
Among the elements and characteristic found in the Athens, the element that can
be use in future is hierarchy in town planning. A town planning is a important
roles when build the town. The town is well planned by having the agency to
control and manage the land properties and zoning .The centre of the town is the
home to the town’s most important buildings, including the town hall and
government buildings. Buildings that play similar roles in the town are placed
further away from the central area of the town. A great town must have the great
system to separate or arrange the different zone such as insdustries area and
residential area. Besides, when draw a zoning for a town the things that must be
consider is the environment, location, people and their activities.

The Present of town – Cape Town
4.1 History of Cape Town
Although the founder of the Cape Colony, Jan van Riebeeck, planted vines and
made wine himself. Van der Stel created Groot Constantia, the superb estate on
the flanks of Table Mountain, and passed on his wine-making skills to the
citizens.
For a long time, Cape wines other than those produced at Groot Constantia were
not in great demand and most grapes ended up in brandy. The industry received
a boost in the early 19th century as war between Britain and France.
Apartheid-era approvals and the power of the Kooperatieve Wijnbouwers
Vereeniging didn't exactly encourage innovation and instead hampered the
industry.
Many new and progressive wine makers are leading South Africa's return onto
the world market. New wine-producing areas are being established away from
the hotter inland areas.

4.2 Concentrating of town
This town is famous for its harbou, for its natural setting in the Cape floral
kingdom, as well as for such well-known landmarks as Table Mountaion and
Cape Paint. It located on the share of Table Bay.
4.3 Element of the town
Can use the Nuclear-powered electricity and the Renewable-source electricity in
the Cape town for the new “X” town.

Future Town – Copenhagen, Denmark
5.1 History of Copenhagen
Copenhagen was founded in 1167 by tough-as-nails Bishop Absalon, who erected a
fortress on Slotsholmen Island, fortifying a small and previously unprotected harbourside
village. Copenhagen, founded more than 800 years ago, has stood as the capital of
Denmark for more than 500 years. Now a large, modern city, it has endured wars, sieges,

fires and a bubonic plague.
5.2 What makes is a significant town and the details
Copenhagen is a well-known green city in the world. 50% of Copenhagener
commutes daily by cycling. They are born and raised into a biking culture.
Copenhageners think that “biking is a much faster and more convenient way of
getting around.” Copenhagen back in the 20th century where the city’s first
bicycle path was established in 1892. There was only 2500 bicycles around the
city but the number quickly increased after 17years later with 80,000 cyclists.
5.3 Conclusion about Copenhagen
Copenhagen is well-known as being the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world.
Copenhagen aimed to be the world’s first carbon neutral capital by 2025. The city
offers free public bicycles and also with an extensive and well-designed system of
cycle tracks. Copenhagener are smart which they’ve already used cycling as their
transportation few years ago. They use green technologies in their building and
also daily life.

5.4 Information or element for my new town
Promote a similar transportation method that is healthy, environment friendly,
cheap and convenient. Beside that’s, can use their Green technologies , cycling
culture and walkability.
6. The Audee
6.1 How did i came up with the solution to create this
new town
The design of The Audee city plan is to make people’s life more
comfortable by sheltering citizens from the heat and UV rays caused
by the thinning of the ozone layer. The Audee can help overcome snd
extract the benefits of the rising temperature, water pollution and so
on. I plan such that my town will be low carbon footprint because less
of cars on major roads, hence reduce the carbon dioxide emission.
Like Cape Town, I plan to build a city at a cooler location to certain
that more people would want to live in my city.

7. Conclusion
We must learn the knowledge about the green technologies. We can apply
these kind of green technologies in our building and residential. Green
technologies are good for our mother nature and it can minimize the impact to
the nature.
A great future town is a town that is sustainable and liveable and I gained a lot
of extra information about built environment. I have learned how to compare the
different development of the town through research on the ancient, present, and
future town.
The evolution of technology keeps on going, throughout the research, there is a
huge different between ancient architecture building and future architecture
buildings. We must learn how to catch up the evolution and try to practice it in our
projects.
