This document reports on investigating past, present, and future towns to propose a new livable town. It summarizes investigations of the ancient Agora of Athens and present-day Incheon, South Korea to identify important elements. These include green spaces, public gathering areas, transportation infrastructure, and emphasis on education and business. The proposed new town, called "The Blue Viridescent", incorporates these elements through high-rise residential buildings, a port, preserved forests, green roofs, and renewable energy generation. The conclusion is that investigating different towns over time can help create a sustainable future town that balances livability and environmental protection.

1.Introduction
A town is a small community. A city is a large
community, home to many people. Every city or town
needs to sustain itself. The best way to understand a town
is to explore and investigate a city first hand.
In this project, we will investigate about past, present
and future town and propose a future town with
collected information. We will have to refer to the past to
plan for our future town and learn from history to create a
better future town.
There are positive and negative sides of a city. We may
never produce a perfect city but we can make
improvements. A great city is a city that is sustainable and
livable as well as town. A town consists of spaces for

human activities and interactions with significant urban
problems. Therefore, we will be focusing on the
component of a town and the built environment such as
needs of the people, the facilities, infrastructures and how
it will sustain itself in the future.

2.2 What is the brief history
The Agora, the marketplace and civic center, was one of the most important parts of
an ancient city of Athens. In addition to being a place where people gathered to
buy and sell all kinds of commodities, it was also a place where people assembled to
discuss all kinds of topics: business, politics, current events, or the nature of the
universe and the divine. The Agora of Athens, where ancient Greek democracy first
came to life, provides a wonderful opportunity to examine the commercial, political,
religious, and cultural life of one of the great cities of the ancient world.
The earliest archaeological excavations in the Athenian Agora were conducted by
the Greek Archaeological Society in the 19th century. Since 1931 and continuing to
the present day, the excavations have been conducted by the American School of
Classical Studies in Athens.

4.Investigation & Data Collection:
Present Towns / township
4.1 History
The history of Incheon started from Goguryeo Kingdom in 475 AD, under the
reign of King Jangsu. It's original name was Michuhol and it changed several
times and renamed to Incheon-gun in the 13th year of King Taejong’s reign
during Joseon period. In 1949, after Korea`s 1945 liberation, Incheon City
reorganized and Incheon City finally renamed to Incheon Metropolitan City in
1995.
During the Korea War, there was the battle of Incheon led by an American
general of UN Douglas MacArthur and the battle resulted in a decisive victory
and strategic reversal in favor of the United Nations(UN). In a show of gratitude
to the American soldier, Koreans in the late 1950s erected the bronze statue of
MacArthur in a central park at Incheon that overlooks the sea area through
which his troops came ashore.

The future of towns and Better Towns
Build on the island’s positive attributes.
• Prioritize water-dependent uses, including moorage and boating
activities.
• Maintain an island waterfront theme.
• Encourage a variety of uses or activities that draw the community
and visitors.

Clover Island boasts several businesses, supports the boating community
with its yacht club and marina.
The Port of Kennewick Commission has an opportunity to:
• Transform Clover Island into a showcase river-shore development
site.
• Support tourism and economic development, while bringing new
customers to the island’s existing tenants.
6.The New “X” City / The Blue
Viridescent?
6.1 How did you came up with the solution to create this new town
As the previous X town was too crowded with the population of people living
there which is between 80,000 to 200,000, I am required to pretend as a
mayor and propose a new layout for the new X town very quickly. Therefore, I
have thought of providing condominiums and apartments as residential area
instead of terrace houses or bungalows because terrace houses and

bungalows occupy a lot of spaces since my town on island only has a size of
15 - 30 km2.

6.3 Conclusion about the new X town
Has forests and green spaces
- Reserved forest to ensure continuous species of flora
and fauna and cooling down of temperature.
- Green spaces to add more greenery to the town.

Buildings in the town use the concept
of green buildings
Green walls, roofs and facades to adapt our city to climate change
Electricity generator
Boardwalk with breathtaking view
17. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
Condominiums – high rise buildings with green roof to provide residential
area for large population of people in “X” town
Apartments - attractive appearance but is less certain from a financial
standpoint due to the area’s low rental rates
Port - Includes equipment and facilities for handling and storing cargo, such
as warehouses and cranes
- amenities which are designed to appeal to people coming into port, such
as restaurants and hotels.
Port office - A stand-alone building could be ready for Port occupation fairly
quickly, would generate immediate activity on the island
7.Conclusion
From this building of my new town, I learn to be
creative and innovative. For example, I learn to
arrange and create layout for my future town. Besides,
I also get to know the advantages of using materials or
alternative resources that can save the environment.
For example, the wind turbine helps to generate
electricity from kinetic energy to electrical energy and

17
18. ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
this will reduce the usage of non-renewable materials
or methods to generate electricity. Green roofs are
used for cooling the temperature at the surrounding. In
a town, we must practice to use public transportation
and use bicycle to reduce the air pollution. Besides,
arrangement of the layout must be appropriate. For
example, the residential areas must be near to each
other so that it would be easier for the resident to travel
since the total area of the town is small. I can also learn
how to edit video in a various type of method using
different type of applications such as “ Movie maker”.
