Review of A Shot in the Light Essay
Review of A Shot in the Light The narrator is a naïve person. He believes in the best of people. It
does not even cross his mind that Ray could ever hurt him. He trusts Ray. After only two days with a
person he has never seen before, he trusts him. He gives Ray clothes, money, food and a reason to
believe. He is a salesman with a van and some few things. He is not wealthy. He makes his living.
And though he has not much to give he still gives. Ray is a player. How can he make the narrator
believe in him? What does he do to make it that way? The person we see, shooting the narrator is a
part of Ray. The person we see, after shooting the narrator is also a part of Ray. Ray has a split
personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe there is not only Satan hidden inside of him? Maybe there is something good also? He is
shocked. God did not die. God cannot die. He will live on forever. But can Satan die? Can he be
replaced? "A Shot in the Light". Ray cannot kill the goodness in the narrator by shooting him. By
being evil. This is only a single try of evilness against the world of goodness. One little shot cannot
defeat the good. But perhaps the little shot from an evil can defeat the evil? The story is called "A
Shot in the Light" because it is nothing more than a single try to defeat the good. It is no big thing.
Only a little shot in a world of light. It cannot do any harm. Maybe Ray sees the light after shooting
against it? Maybe the light can defeat the evil inside Ray? Though the narrator does not know it, the
good is looking after him: "This light, this power inside me was so strong, though I had no idea
where it came from."[2] All the good in world goes together and helps the narrator. On that
background the first theme is the difference between good and bad. With good shall bad be defeated.
There are too much good in this world to be defeated by evil. The second theme is to take life for
granted. Even the narrator takes his life for granted. He likes his life and his van, stuff, family and
friends, but it is here, it has always been here and it will always be

Ethics: Morality and People Essay example
HU4640 August 2, 2013 Project Pt. 5: My Personal Code of Ethics This was a very interesting
project because I have never really concerned myself with my ethical beliefs or position. I just did
what I thought was best without really thinking about it in this manner. I am glad that I had this
class. It was very enlightening. My beliefs and obligations to society is very simple, treat people the
way you want to be treated. I am a firm believer of the Golden Rule. You will receive respect in the
long run. I value the relationships that I have with others. I view this perspective as one in which I
don't really care what other people think of me personally, but I do try to establish myself as a fair
individual. I never ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of times we did not get any recognition. So when I became a sergeant and I became a squad
leader that is what I always did. I would let my fellow squad members know that there are no
absolute where they will get recognition for doing their job but doing a job at the best they can do. I
average job would not be recognized. Some of the weaker members thought this was punishment
but I tried to explain to them that if you don't push yourself. How can you ever know what you are
able to do? They thought that by being the weaker links I was punishing them and they went to
company commander about it. I explained my position to the company commander. He agreed with
me, but it made me make adjustments to my program. I decided to give daily "AT A BOY". I would
write letters of excellence to those who demonstrated levels far and beyond the call of duty. I
counseled them and put the letter in their personnel file. That was a way to morally reward those
who excelled. I give to different types of charities, sponsor different people and groups in all
different types of events. I would not say that my moral code addresses self–interest because I do
my best to look out for others even when it's at the expense of me. This does not mean I neglect
myself. I just try to help people when I can. With that being said, I feel people have a certain level of
self– help that they must demonstrate or I will be

Fallen Star Short Story
There is legend of a fallen star a star that can bring happiness to anyone who can tame it and I
Theresa Herondale will find it as long as it takes. The star I seek has a power to grant anyone who
obtains it a wish, when I was a child. I had heard stories about the star how an enchanting golden
light surrounds it, as if it had fallen from the heavens and the air around had become thick and
sweet. All the children wanted to find the star but we were all told it was just a story but no longer
will it just be a story I will find the star and wish for my village back. It was 7 years ago it was a
plain ordinary day in my home village of Treydelle all the children were outside playing me being
one of them and the elders we're having a meeting the all of a sudden we saw flames red fiery
flames the kind that would destroy anything in its way and it was headed for us we were all told to
evacuate but everyone was paralyzed in fear .I ran I was the only one who did it's like the fire had
control over everyone it wanted control of except me. I was the sole survivor of my village I don't
who started the fire but I will take my vengeance on them whoever they are.The story I was told said
that the star was on the west side of Webbrute a village it's easy to walk to because it's near my
former village,I need supplies from the village the only reason I survived this long is because
Treydelle was famous for its livestock and farming we carrots as orange as the colour and tomatoes
as red as the flames that destroyed my village I hate those tomatoes . As I go on my Quest I should
be prepared for anything bandits, monsters but I didn't care anything or anybody could come for the
star but they would get because I will beat them to it .On my way to Webbrute I felt a presence
behind me when I turned around I saw nothing I must just be paranoid. All of a sudden I felt another
presence it's like someone wants me to become paranoid "is someone there"I screamed "no nobody's
here" a groggy male voice said .Idiot is he that stupid or maybe he's drunk well I guess I'll find out
"knock knock" "who's there" the voice said overly joyful "shut up you'll get us found out" a second
angry voice growled "oops sorry I

John sat silently thinking about his choices. Evelyn was correct in her assumptions. He is starting to
have feelings for her, even if he don 't want to admit it to himself.
Evelyn could sense John contemplating with his choices. She smiled brightly and spoken in a
cheerful voice. "Don 't think too hard Johnny, why don 't you sit closer by me? I 'll gladly share you
my blanket, besides I think you need it more than I do."
Evelyn pat the ground, directing him to come closer. "Oh come on...don 't be shy, I won 't bite!"
John move closer beside Evelyn. She open her blanket and wrap it around him. She gently place her
head on John 's shoulder. The night sky was dark and the cold air was breezy. Evelyn gaze at the
stars, having a slight feeling of loneliness. It 's been a long time since she departed her own world.
She spoke softly to John. "You 're so damn lucky Johnny . Your planet is amazing! Your able to see
stars every night. Where I come from, our world has three binary suns. We don 't get night time
often, until one solar Earth year. The good side of things, when night time do come. The night skies
are beautiful, it has more stars than you could ever imagine here on Earth. It 's a shame we don 't get
the privilege to see stars every 12 hours like you do."
John notice her feeling of loneliness. He couldn 't help but feel sad for her. "I 'm sure you miss your
home world very much, Evelyn. If I could, I would love to see it one day."

The Psychological Factors That Shaped My Childhood And...
"To be successful you need to face your hardest opponent... yourself." –Dillon Boucher. In order to
face ourselves, we must know who we are and why we do certain things. Psychology allows us to do
this. It is the study of people. This science allows us to look into who we are and what we are. By
understanding what and how everything you do can help you make improvements. This allows the
body and mind to work together, so it can give you the knowledge to help make better decisions and
avoid stressful situations. It can help you achieve goals and you live comfortably with others. As I
move on in life and get to the point of independence, it is important for me to understand why I do

Permissive parents watch their children less closely and are more free with their child's actions
(Rathus, p.288). Both of my parents have always been very loving and given me everything I
needed, but at least to me, they always seemed to be more on the strict side with me than they were
with my brother. I was never allowed to many of the things my brother was allowed to do and when
I tried to make the argument that their rules were unfair, they always looked at me and said, "He's a
boy, you're a girl." This inequality in treatment put a tremendous strain on me and what the
expectations I felt that I had to live up to. I feel like my parents strict and cold style effected me in
both negative and positive ways. I feel that it made me become a much harder worker who was
more motivated to achieve certain goals but it also caused a lot of insecurities when I failed at
something. Moving on into my adolescent years wasn't any easier. I had no idea who I was. In fact, I
changed my wardrobe and what I was into doing quite often throughout middle school. One month
I'd wear a dress in hopes to be a "girly girl" and the next, I'd be dressed in all shirts with black
schools pretending I knew how to skateboard. In addition to that, my friend group changed
dramatically within a very short period of time. I was very confused and new to all of the things this
new group of peers enjoyed doing. At one point, I was so desperate to find out who I was and get the
sense of belonging that

A Short Story : A Story?
The air was filled with the aroma of coffee and paper.
It was a regular day in the lonely office. At least, to any given eye it was. However, in Susan
Terrance's eyes, it was a frustrating and sad day. One to mourn.
Another stab, a final scream, and a early death.
This was the fourth one so far. This was unheard of in the small town of Grimwald Creek. The town
was too innocent, too happy. Maybe that's why someone wanted to do such a crime. To make sure
that all good things came to an end.
But that's not how it worked in the woman's eyes. She needed to stand up for the town she was
raised in. Grimwald Creek was stronger than that. She knew it, and she just needed to prove it. It
was her job afterall, to bring justice.
Although, this can be hard.
A knocking on the ancient wooden door tore her from her thoughts. Her head snapped up, glaring at
the door in her dark green office chair.
"Come in," she sighed, putting her head in her hands. "It's unlocked."
Then came in a anxious Deborah Smith, blonde hair swishing behind her. "There's a two men with a
file who wants to let in, Mrs. Terrence."
That peaked her interest. She looked up and rose a eyebrow. "Who is it?" She asked, looking into
Deb's eyes. A way of telling if the young secretary was lying or not.
"I don't know," she said truthfully, looking as lost as her boss was. "All I know is that they want to
talk with you."
Susan hesitated for a moment, what could this mystery man want? A file? Maybe a deadbeat

"Owen!" My mother yelled at me as I came down the stairs, as if I 'd done something seriously
wrong. My mind raced as I tried to recall everything I had done in the past weeks. "Yes mother?" I
replied when I reached the bottom of the stairway. She gave me that look mothers give their children
when they have done something unapproved. "You said you would go play with your brother today."
My mother was not on my side today, as she seldom ever was. She was already siding with Timmy,
my precious 10 year–old little brother, and I had almost no chance of winning this battle. Then I
thought of something! It was risky, but it could work. "Mother," I reminded her, "you know I have

We decided to do something we could all enjoy that day, go fishing. Everyone can fish. I never
considered fishing dangerous, until that day at least. We all packed our bags, grabbed our rods, and
stopped off at the corner store to pick up some fresh bait. On our way down to the lake my brother
talked the entire time. He talked about any and everything, how many stars there were, his favorite
dinosaur, why the sky was blue. Once you got him started on a topic, you couldn't get him off.
"When are we going to be there? My arms are killing me. This rod and box is too heavy!" I was
getting tired of listening to Timmy complain. I didn't want to yell at him in front of my friends.
Everyone knows doing that will probably cause my friends to side with my younger brother, even if
he was the one in the wrong. I couldn 't take his complaining anymore, it was getting on my nerves.
"Timmy! Please stop complaining, it's the most annoying thing ever. I don 't want to listen to it
anymore, you don't see us complaining!" I couldn't hold it in, it was too annoying and I 'm sure I just
did us all a favor. Zachary and Jane were probably thanking me in their minds. When we arrived
down at the river, Timmy didn't do much but sit around and talk about things completely irrelevant
to anything that was being said. "Ugh, I dropped my knife in the water." Zachary said but was cut
off by my heroic brother

The Battle Of War Among The Packs
Two years ago, I stood where I stand now with nothing but sorrow in my heart. I watched my loved
ones die in the hands of those I call fellow wolves. My mother, father, and older brother are now
gone and The Moon Pack are held responsible.
They were vicious, cold–blooded werewolves that kill will anyone who dared to oppose them. The
pack consists of rogues from other packs which proved problematic. Their reckless actions caused a
rift between packs, threatening the alliance. Thus, a treaty was formed to prevent an outbreak of war
among the packs.
Adam, The Moon Pack 's Alpha, Adam was the culprit behind the massacre of my pack. He, alone
was I wanted to kill.

Above her head a black umbrella protecting her from the harsh rain. In her other hand, a dozen of
white lilies was in her grasp. "I figured you would be here," She said as she walked toward me.
Rose strolled pass me and directed her attention to the memorial. She placed the flowers atop of the
stone then said a prayer.
She and I were the sole survivors of our pack. It would be our job to reproduce but I don 't see that
happening anytime soon. Rose didn 't desire a mate and neither did I.
A mate will only bring unwanted drama for me so I rid myself of the thought. I couldn 't protect my
pack, therefore, I shouldn 't bring a mate in the face of danger. If she were to get hurt – in any way –
I 'll never be able to forgive myself.
Rose step to me and open her mouth to speak. "Have you eaten today?" she asked.
"Yeah" I lied smoothly.
On this day, the anniversary of the unfateful slaughter, I did nothing but sulk in misery. For hours, I
would sit here, reminiscing about the bittersweet memories. All while filled with emotions such as
anger and sadness.
Rose step closer and took my hand. "Scar...let it go" She pressed her hand to my cheek. Her soft
touch soothes the hate inside but I still wanted revenge. "You need to," she said, looking directly
into my eyes.
I slap her hand away, frowning at her frowns. "I can 't..."
Rose sighed in annoyance. "They were my family too but..." she trailed "at some point, you need to
move on"
"How dare you say that!"

My Day In My Life
I woke up early, about 6 am, happy and relaxed. I was, however, disappointed that I hadn't dreamed
of the monkeys. I took my shower and brushed my teeth. Pleased with all my homework, I went
downstairs. I had a bacon sandwich and a cup of hot chocolate. Dad signed my guardian slip for the
school trip. I checked for my pencils, eraser, and pencil sharpener, and made sure that my book bag
was packed and all was intact. I dressed warmly, with an extra shirt underneath. Feeling so
comfortable in my outfit, I got into the car and waved to my mum. Dad dropped me off at school at
8 am. It was still early for school, so I went straight to the canteen to chat with a few friends. Before

The only option I had was to go for creative thinking and art. The club met twice a week, and if you
were in both groups, you finished at 6:30 pm. They also meet some weekends for rehearsals. Opting
for just one would not be beneficial for me, factoring in the fact that it was for the purpose of
woodland trips. The first thing I did during my second break was to go to the school office to
register. Hopefully, I would gain skills to develop robotic monkeys. It was a Tuesday, and there was
a lesson. The days for the lessons were Tuesdays and Fridays. I phoned my mum and told her about
it. From her reaction over the phone, it seemed she was very pleased. Happy that my parents would
support me, I went to the club after school. I got there quite early and had half an hour wait before
the session. The building was attached to the main school, and I walked through the school parking
lot in the loading bay to my right were three disable bays and four extra spaces adjacent to the
building. I assumed the extra parking was for the main school entrance. The main building was built
with high–class bricks. Inside, the building was so magnificent. The building was a high, two–story
studio. It contained twenty self–contained studios. The ground floor contained three large multi–
purpose spaces. It was a world–class building on an approximately 5–acre plot. Every room was
between 235 feet square to 1500 feet square. The design was so beautiful. We had two main

The Cafe Window
In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the café window. Concerned
for the safety of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear and robe. Her
jaw fell open when on the sidewalk before her appeared Stella and Sol, with much audacity.
Carrying up the path garment bags from a high end department store. Behind them was Dr. Edwards
who had just pulled in after his long shift at work. He walked towards Stella who was standing in
front of the door. He greeted her with a big, juicy, wet, kiss, then they all just walked right in.
Consuelo, who was still owning her tantrum, was offended by their smiles and casual stances. Not
wanting to believe what she was seeing when she questioned, "Are those really garment bags you
carrying?" Calm and collect Sol put on her sarcastic tone and lifted her head and retorted "You saw
the wedding invitation. My daughter gets married next Saturday. We will dress impeccably well for
the fiasco." Consuelo who was speechless regained her composure for a moment, "I understand that
she became a loon, but did I miss something with you two? My son is going to be crushed, while
you are going to look your finest for the biggest mistake your daughter is going to make in her life?
I just don't understand."
Sol replied proud, "You always put on a good face during bad weather, don't you go out in the rain
with makeup? Consuelo was so appalled she could only muster, "You mean you are not going to
stop her?"

Working the Crowd and Room Arrangement "Either you work the crowd, or the crowd works you."
This is repeated over and over by Jones. He leads into the video with a section on proximity and
working the crowd. He compared classrooms to a stoplight. Red is the fews feet around you, where
the least amount of issues are bound to creep up, yellow is a few feet beyond that, where the middle
ground is and students may be off task, and the green is the section where off task behavior will
start. He stressed the importance of working the room. He said it is important to be able to go

I have rearranged the direction of my desk to put it flat against the front wall, due to my computer

Praise, Prompt, and Leave: The Verbal Modality In the video Jones re–enacts a typical classroom
scene. The assignment is first modeled on the board by the teacher, guidelines are outlined and there
is a brief question and answer period. The teacher then tells the group, "OK I am going to have you
work some problems on your own while I walk around and help those of you who are having issues.
If you have a problem or question, please raise your hand." He asked the group, "What happens
now?" Every hand goes up. He comments that that is usually what happens, everyone wants help,
but you can't help everyone at once, so he demonstrates what happens when you assist students. He
then walks over to a participant in his session and shows what happens when you help a student.
What happens with the session attendees is what happens in most classrooms. It started out with a
small amount of talking, and then the noise level grew and grew. He doesn't address how to handle
the talking yet, but describes the stop and yell most teachers do. "Okay everyone stop talking, get to
work, raise your hand, be on task....." He goes one to the one on one helping. He said most students
when asked what they need help with and they

Persuasive Speech On Homework
Being a kid is not easy, trying to juggle sports, school, and a social life is stressful and time
consuming. We have lives outside of the classroom and keeping track of our work is very difficult,
but there are ways to help keep the two balanced. Here are some helpful ways to keep your school
life managed and still have a productive lifestyle. I've been in school for a little while now and one
of the things I dreaded the most was the teacher saying "Your homework for tonight is..."Hearing
those words just ruined my mood. However, homework may not be the most enjoyable thing in the
world it is important. It's 10% of your grade but also allows to practice more on what you're
learning. Once you get home, homework should be the first thing on your mind so you can just get it
out of the way. When working on homework you should definitely turn off all electronic devices so
it won't get in the way of you focusing. Another thing that could be distracting is family. As much
fun as family might be, having someone there when you're trying to do classwork could get you
really off topic. I have a cousin who I definitely adore and we are super close but once we get to
talking there is just no stopping us. Keeping a distance from them will keep you on task and you will
also get your work done faster. Once that is out of the way you can have all the time to socialize.
Ever been so stressed out about a test before? Well guess what, you're not alone. Test and exams are
so stressful and sometimes they could either make or break your grade. Having that kind of pressure
put on you doesn't feel good but there are ways you can prep and not be so freaked out. A key thing
that goes along with studying is the same with homework, turn off all devices that have nothing to
do with school. For instances phones, with all this new social media coming out all you want do is
snapchat friends and see what they are doing. That'll distract you from studying. Besides devices
being shut down, having something calm and relaxing playing can help the brain focus more and do
better. Playing classical music or maybe sounds of nature will be soothing. I know when I study it
could feel like I've been studying forever and nothing is

Socrates, Philosophy and the Good Life Essay
Socrates, Philosophy and the Good Life
Socrates' belief was that he was called on by the Gods to live his life examining others and himself.
He believed the necessity of doing what one thinks is right even in the face of universal opposition,
and the need to pursue knowledge even when opposed. "I became completely convinced, to the duty
of leading the philosophical life by examining myself and others."¹ Socrates believed that to desert
this idea was ridiculous and would make his life absurd. Socrates chose to live a life of truth and not
to worry about things that did not matter. For Socrates not to live his life by the plans and requests
of Gods it would be disobedient and untrue to the Gods. Socrates was brought to court to defend ...

Socrates asks the question "Is there anyone in the world, Meletus, who acknowledges that human
phenomena exist, yet does not acknowledge human beings?"9 After more questions of the same
type, Meletus answers no. Socrates again proves his point. Socrates brings the irrational charge
down to simple accusation because Meletus was a loss for a legitimate offense. Socrates says there
is no conceivable way that a person who believes in spiritual beings does not believe in gods. The
argument that proved inconsistency in Meletus' answers was: spirits exists, God created spirits,
therefore, the creator of spirits exists (God). It seems that Meletus did understand the laws of the
court and was simply charging Socrates with any crime he could think of. Socrates goes to say that
Meletus and Anytus will go on to convict many more good men and they will not stop with him.
Socrates states that it will not be Meletus and Anytus that convict but the malice and slander and
great hostility that will. Socrates refutes the irreligion charge by proving that since he believes in
spirits he believes in gods. "I have neglected the things that concern most people–making money,
managing an estate, gaining military power or civic honours, or positions of power."10 Even today
to most of the human race the good life is acquiring great status here on earth. Most men need to
have much material possession, meaningful vocation, and a wealthy class.

afternoon play session. A council inspector in a striped high–visibility vest would arrive to look over
the equipment. Then they would walk past us and look up at the abandoned buildings of Briar Hills
High School and shake their head at the eyesore. They would probably write some notes too. One of
us would go outside just to burst a tyre on their car. The council always parked in the same place
marked with a faded yellow line. It was right in front of the barrier which looked like a brittle and
old fence to them but to us it meant we could hide and forget. When they parked near the barrier it
was too close.

Why I Should Take A Shower
Of course Finn hadn 't gone in my room, twenty dollars had just dissapeared. Damn, I should have
kicked his ass. What could Mom do about it anyway? Whatever, it 's only twenty bucks. Elli said he
'd be here to pick me up around five, which means he 'll proably show up around five thirty. So I still
have about half an hour to kill. I decide that I really should take a shower, mainly just to kill time
while avoiding my mom. I take a cold ten minute shower before returning to my room. While I was
showering I 'd missed a text from Sky "where are you? we 're waiting out front" Thankfully the text
is only two minutes old, so I have time to hurry a reply, grab my stuff and run out the door. "Get in
already, Wyght!" Elli yells from the open window of his van. Elli 's van is our only mode of
transportation, which definately isn 't ideal. The van is black and really old, and is a semi–passanger
van and semi–cargo van. What I mean by that is that there are five seats, along with a cargo area.
This is a bad setup for us, as our band has six members, but we make it work, most often by having
Alex sit on someone 's lap, normally Dexter 's. Mainly because Alex is tiny, and can 't weigh more
than a hundred pounds, and Dexter never really complains about the setup, which is understandable,
because Alex is pretty hot for a short, bitchy stoner. I climb into the back, where Sky, Dexter, and
Alex are (Sam called shotgun, as usual) When I get in Alex rolls her eyes and climbs onto Dexter 's

Student Self-Assessment Reflection
Chelsie Vogel
Student Self–Assessment Reflection
When creating a self–assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self–assessment that would
be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self–
assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards
reading, discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self–reflection of their learning.
The student was asked to circle thumbs–up (always), thumbs–middle (sometimes), and thumbs–
down (not yet). I prefer using the term "not yet" because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress
versus a failure. After allowing the student to complete the self–assessment privately, I was able to
sit down with them, take notes, and have a mini–conference to dive deeper into their responses.
For the statements, "I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important," Student N circled
thumbs–up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading. Student N
also circled a thumbs–up for the statement, "I enjoy reading at home." I asked the student if they
read a lot at home and they responded with, "I don't really read a lot at home. I like video games and
watching TV." I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they liked about it.
Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By their response, I
could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family member versus
reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs–up responses to "I think I'm a good reader and I
don't have a problem finding books to read." Student N seems confident in their reading and is
aware of what they enjoy reading.
Student N gave a thumbs–middle for "I am comfortable reading aloud in class." I shared with him
that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also shared
that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This will help me
build our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when they are
reading or if they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their reading

Analysis Of Rudy Hepworth 's ' I Didn 't Long Until Summer...
Chapter 1 13 years ago By: Rudy Hepworth It wasn't long until summer, this being my last few days
at this school. I really liked this school but mama said "Oh, you poor child we must go your father
has just got promoted again." I knew that was the end of that. Mama doesn't like when I argue so I
don't. As my papa got home I said, "How was work." He did not respond to that though so I took it
like he did not have a good day. I thought to myself I wonder did he have a good day mama said he
got promoted. As I walked into my room to change into my play clothes I heard my friends yell,
"Dude you coming out?" I sighed, "Yeah." I darted down stairs and told mama that I would be back
before dusk. I ran outside and a man came up to me and said, "Listen kid I'm goanna kill you if you
don't give that hat and that watch too, OR ELSE!" I started to run and he chased me to the city and
of course I fell. The man grab me by the arm and said "if you eve–I cut him off "If I ever WHAT?"
He punched me in the jaw and I laughed "A girl can hit harder than that!" For my smart mouth he
did again this time my loose tooth came out and I told him "do it again might make ya feel better." I
finally out of his grip and when I got home I got in the shower and after I put my pajamas on. I
woke up and got ready for school. I

American in the 1980's Essay
The 1980's is one of the most interesting decades that was experienced in the United States. Dealing
with the stock market, the coming up of new inventions, all the way to the types of music people
listened to. During the 1980s, the only thing that made Americans be "Americans" was because of
the things they were provided with. Many Americans had fun throughout the 1980s with
materialistic, glamorous, and technological life styles; therefore there were different economical
problems that Americans faced.
During the 1980's, many Americans were incredibly materialistic; they were only concerned with
the "things" in life, not with life as it was. In the musical world, Madonna was becoming popular.
One of her greatest hits, Material Girl, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were many styles that people were able to work with. First off, one of the most common
styles was the retro style. Retro was, in a way, inspired by disco. Americans would often wear flares,
which were types of jeans where the legs got bigger and "flared" out towards the bottom of the foot
(CITATION, #). This proves that retro was just one of the major fashion statements in the 1980s.
Another style that Americans tried out was the Glamour style. This fashion included top of the line
designers like CoCo Chanel, Versace, and Oscar de la Renta. These designers made a significant
impact on the glamorous lifestyle. Glamorous was over the top, but in a fashionable or unique way
that people like to dress (CITATION, #). People would wear skirts with a huge puffball at the
bottom of it, or switch it up to a nice tight fitting pencil skirt. The economy was a huge factor.
Obviously people wanted the best of the best, but the economy was not doing that well (CITATION,
#). There were some bad things about the agriculture. Since the United States is just coming out of a
recession, they were working on rebuilding businesses in the city so they could expand their
business and try to earn back some of the money they lost. This proves that at this point in the 80s,
life was not so glamorous because people had to worry about earning back the assets that they lost
along with businesses. The farm economy was

My Experience At Erin 's Place
My breathing is steady and shallow, the exhales causing slight disturbances in the fog around me,
my shoes making a constant smack, smack on the pavement. The mist acts like a thin blanket,
dampening my senses, making the world just a little quieter, a little calmer. All around me are the
sounds and smells of pure, serene nighttime. To my left is the pond; ducks are huddled along the
shoreline, sometimes ruffling their feathers or making a sleepy murmur. I just passed the campus
daycare, the windows are all dark and the playground is empty; the swing creaks back and forth
slightly... There must be a breeze.
I'm on my way back from a long night of studying. It's around 2AM, the cafeteria in the university
hall is open all the time so students can study late for upcoming finals. I'm not much of a cram–
studier so I'm way ahead and I don't have any exams for a few days.
I should have made plans to stay at Erin's place. She lives on campus in the dorms and she gave me
a copy of her key (which is completely against the rules, by the way, but she figured I might need a
place to crash if I ever got too drunk at a campus party), but I'm pretty sure she won't appreciate me
storming in at 2AM when she, unlike me, has an exam in the morning. I brought the key with me in
case I was too tired to walk home; but alas, coffee is a brilliant invention, and if anything I feel wide
awake, so I silently review the topics I'm finished going over... Riemann Sums... multivariable

Is Grendel Evil?
In a world of chaos, he who lives, lives by his own laws and values. Who is to say that the death of
millions is any worse or better, for that matter, than injuring a cockroach. And in the case of an
existing power in the form of God, who is presumed to be all which is good, presiding and ruling an
organized universe, why then does evil exist? The prosaic response of "without evil, there is no
good" no longer holds any validity in this argument as the admitted goal of good is to reach an
existence without evil. So even if a God does exist, I think it is fair, at this point, to say that he is the
embodiment of both good and evil. And if humoring those who would answer the previous question
with the response that there can be no good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is, to say, not good or evil. It is life which shapes his beliefs and therefore life which dictates
ethics, whether dependent on fate or not. Within the society which humans have created and live in,
there are certain ideals which are reinforced actively by written law and organized religion. Since
there is no evidence that any omniscient, eternal being actually organized a faith dedicated to itself
and especially for the fact that no such being exists in the society of a creature such as Grendel (with
no society within which he belongs); I will say that no God has any power over Grendel (he has not
been told that one even exists). For Grendel, there is no reinforcement of which ethics, good or evil,
he should abide by and therefore he is able to make a more honest decision of which way to live.
Since the world which he sought to embrace, rejected him, he is forced to make a decision. He must
choose between a self–exile in which he would live a life separate from the humans with which he
shares the ground which they walk on, or to take form as a God himself and seek punishment for
those who wronged him, essentially, Hrothgar the King of the Scyldings. His meeting with the
mystical dragon is what helps to guide his decision towards the side of what is defined as evil.

repentant expression, but the panic he radiated was making it extra challenging.
"Paine... I'm," she bit down on the insides of her cheeks, "sorry. I really––" Snort. "Am. I didn't

"No you're not." An accusatory finger shot down at her. "Look at you! You find this hilarious." He
held on to that scalding anger a moment more, before sinking to the ground in an ooze of self pity.
"You don't care what this means for me at all. In fact, my suffering just makes this better for you,

My Best Friend
"Okay sissy, don't cry," she pleaded. I knew the day was converging, but I tried not to think about it.
She was my absolute best friend and I could not imagine living 1,300 miles away.
Growing up, we were resentful of each other. We used words and actions to get our point across. Not
only did we slap each other, but also kicked and punched. I cried even if it didn't hurt. After hearing
me cry, my dad would scoop me in his arms and at the same time, discipline my sister. It was
satisfying if you had asked my 8 year old self.
After all, Madison turned into my soul mate, as I began middle school, up until she had graduated
high school. From watching movies until our eyes were not susceptible to keep open, laughing
convulsively about nothing until we heard our momma's voice bellow from the next room, and
finally, walking into my room after I got out of the shower to see her snuggled in my bed. But all of
that has come to a halt, at least until we are reunited once again. At this point, Nick had become
Madison's boyfriend. He had brown hair and icy eyes that glistened. He was a year older than her
and he became more like a brother to me growing up. However, years had gone by and Nick chose
to go into the Navy. This was to start a life for themselves, because he knew that someday he was
going to make Madison his wife.
After an enduring 3 months of boot camp, and another 5 months of "A" school, he had graduated to
being a gunners mate. That "someday" had become closer as the days went on. With just a few short
months of Madison completing her dreadful, final year of school, the whole family headed down to
a tiny Lutheran church in Southern Minnesota. The two were wed. Within hours after the reception,
Nick had to be back in Illinois for his Naval obligations.
June sixth, that was the day. Most children cannot wait for the day that their sibling moves out, or to
be an only child, but that wasn't me. I didn't want it to be real. It didn't feel real, but it was.
The days had snuck up so fast. There were boxes upon boxes scattered around the house and a one–
way Uhaul parked in the driveway. My grandparents had come to stay with me while my parents
were going to take my sister, her pet

How Liberals Are Ruining College
My Thoughts on How Liberals are Ruining College This to me can be summed up in one word: sad.
It's truly saddening to me that we've become this way. Where everything is taken to the most
extreme levels and assumed to be hate speech or that it of course must be meant in the worst
possible way. There are of course times where people do take things too far and mean them in the
worst of ways. Although, that is not what this is about. This is about the destruction of free speech to
the extent of teaching people to might as well not have "free thinking." We might as well go around
apologizing to one another for the things we thought or even almost thought. Not to mention if we
almost, or almost though about, them being said? Wouldn't that be ... Show more content on

It can almost be frightening. I know who I am and the things I say sometimes. After reading this I
know certain things I say or joke about would not be tolerated. Although I only ever talk to my
family and my small, sphere of friends who all mostly think the same way I do. It makes me want to
check the policies for the school I plan to go to. I hadn't even read NWACC's until a good three or
four weeks into the school year. Some might say that it would have been smart to do this sooner, but
I always thought if I used a little common sense I wouldn't end up somewhere I wouldn't want to be.
I've survive this far, but obviously, that's what a lot of these schools or professors were thinking as
well. The worst part is that some of these schools, where these incidents have happened, already had
numerous policies and rules in place discriminating against these things. Yet people still accidently
said something that set someone off! There's no end! The punishment is even more asinine than the
act at times. There are occasions when there's an outcry over a simple statement that was
misunderstood and it is dealt with easily. For example, in one case another email was sent out
disregarding the last one and apologizing. In other cases, they are removed, fired, or banned for a

A Short Story : There's A Boy '
There's a boy.
I'm pressed up against the wall of a room and he's in the middle, on a steel surgical table. There isn't
any sheet, and it doesn't look very clean. The room is a box, made of cold stone and concrete with
not even a rug on the floor to warm it up. Maybe a rug, at least, would cover up the dark stains on
the floor. If I squint, I can see the drain set into the concrete where his blood and tears will mix,
headed who knows where.
I know this place, because I've been here before. I've seen exactly what's about to happen.
The boy is not unconscious, unlike myself, but he's silent. I'd like to think he knows what's going to
happen too, but he doesn't. This is simply a loop I am caught in and I can do nothing but watch. I'd

He looks nervous, outwardly, but I haven't seen anything behind those eyes yet. Not in this world,
not in this moment. His black hair is a heavy contrast to the shining blond of the first, and it is true
that they are different. I don't know their names, but by actions alone I could pick them out from a
sea of others. The girl is not in this one.
On the table, the boy coughs. In reality, he is not a boy, but maybe a man of 19. He isn't much
younger than the others, I know, but he looks so small. I can see him freeze in horror at drawing
attention to himself so soon. He probably thinks coughing is better than choking to death on the
need, but he is so wrong. I wish I could warn him. I slide along the wall until I hit the corner. I want
to cry, but I'm too numb. Watching with dead eyes, I see the blonde man place his hand on the bare
chest of the boy on the table. From this far away it looks like a friendly gesture, a companionable
touch. My stomach twists at his gasp of pain, one look at the muscles in the huge man's arm tells me
how hard he's pressing down. God, he looks so, so tiny. If I stood up, I know I could see the fear in
his eyes, the confusion in the set of his mouth. But I don't want to see that. The dark haired man who
was previously just standing there, watching them, leaves the room and the blonde lifts his hand. In

thinking maybe she would join me. Lola I was sitting in my fourth period class when I got a text
from Nevayah saying, "Can we talk after school? " I was a little on edge to see what she had to say,
so I just left her on read. When the bell rang I got up and went to lunch, Nevayah didn't sit with me

Welfare Causes Poverty in America Essay
There seems to be an increase in poverty in the United States and there are so many theories behind
why this might be a problem. It seems as if Society as a whole wants to blame this social
"condition" on Society itself. I believe that the problem of poverty lies within the actual individuals
that are experiencing poverty. There are a few reasons why people experience poverty. They are as
follows: One, the liberal welfare programs that were started in the 1960's, two, individuals lack the
characteristic of power and individuality, three, anti–social behavior and the idea that poverty passes
from one generation to the next. The liberal welfare programs were started in the 1960s to help
individuals obtain better job skills by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems as if they were unable to say no to the provided or shall I say free support and unable to say
yes to the ability to gain and be able to support their selves. It was so much easier to have someone
to do it for them. Not only did they lack integrity but they lacked the power and confidence needed
to make it on their own. These individuals knew that the government has been and will continue to
support them so they became even lazier. These individuals became lazy and began to involve
themselves with only individuals of the sort, which developed into anti– social behavior. Once the
anti–social behavior sets in we can't train these individuals to assimilate into society, we can't train
these people to be like you and me. We can't train these people to be normal. I classify normal as
someone who is willing to support or at least try to support themselves on a regular basis. If I can
work to support me, my family and "you" why can't you work to support "you", this includes your
family also. Children are indeed a product of their environment.
Being a product of your environment can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing depending on your
environment. In the eyes of poverty I do believe that it is a bad thing because poverty seems to be
passed on from generation to generation. You can't expect the next generation to be any better than
the last when they aren't able

Positive And Negative Interaction
How Interactions Can be Positive and Negative
I was born and raised in Iraq; I came to the United States seven years ago with my small family. I
brought with me a bag to carry my important belongings that included my passport, my culture,
Religion, university degree, and the book of childhood memories, for the days that my new life may
need. My heart was divided in two pieces, one piece holds all the love for my family and my friends
and the other part has all the grief for all my beautiful belongs that I can't bring with me in my bag. I
was born and raised on the gender roles, traditions and customs, that a woman's place is in the home
and take care of the husband and kids this does not match with the American culture. My memory
was When I left my country no one say goodbye because they hate the words of farewell. Shortly
after the passage of time I realized all my stuff had brought with me I no longer need it. My culture
is a very difficult not give us the freedom to live as we want. We are Easterners and must go in our
lives like our parents and grandparents did. My life when I came to America completely changed
because of interactions with people.. It all depends on the situation and the person/people who are in
the situation.I started from the begging with my education and trying change even my culture to
have a better life and support my kids and teach them to be proud of United state . One interaction
that I had wasn't the greatest. The situation had many different

My Best Friend
"Goooooaaaaaallllllll!!!!!" Khayone screamed as I ran back screaming that we won. Khayone has
been my best friend for the past 5 years. I met him on Saturday, October 14, 1995. I remember every
moment of that day vividly. How could I ever forget the day I met my best friend? It all started when
my Mom and I were lugging two big buckets of water each all the way home from the town's water
hole. . My feet were killing me! We had to walk ten miles each way to get water twice a week. I was
willing to do it though. Anything was better than working in the field with my father all day. We
were finally almost home when we heard laughing and screaming from some kids in a field near our
house. One of them saw me and hollered,"Hey! You want to come play soccer with us?" I nervously
replied,"Ummm, I've never played before, so I don't know if I should." He told me,"Don't worry
bud, we won't hurt you." I told him,"Okay. I guess I'll play with y'all," as I walked out onto the
makeshift field they had made out of sticks. I could barely see the ball because the grass was almost
as tall as the ball, but it was still fun to hang out with people my own age for once. After about an
hour of sprinting around in the blazing hot sun, I heard my mom yell, "Meet me at home when you
get done Sweetie! I love you to the moon and back!" My face turned as red as a tomato. Why does
she always have to embarrass me like that? Every time I touched the ball after that, someone would
scream,"Pass it here

The Night
"You only bring pain," he said.
Tripping, I place my hand on the bathroom door and rush inside. The door swings behind me as I
rush to the stall.
"We're here to help," I told him and he backed up into the wall. It wasn't the flashlight he was afraid
of, it was me. I lean on the stall door and look down at the floor. I breathe in and out trying to calm
myself down.
What is wrong with you, James? Why can't you stop having these visions? My hand reaches for the
toilet paper. Shaking, it rips a piece off and I dab my wet forehead trying to remove the sweat that
feels like it won't disappear.
"You said you actually talked to one of them?" I sat in a white chair in an interview on live
television.
"Yes," I said nodding my head in agreement.
"Well, what did he say?" The news anchor leaned in closer as I kept my head to the floor. I sighed
and scratched my head while speaking. "He said he was scared ... and ... and wanted me to help
him," I stated.
"And did you?" he asked again. I flashed out and looked at the boy sitting there. "Please let me help
you," I said to him.
He got to his feet and ran out of the house. I started to run after the little boy. I got there and in his
hand was the gun that I kicked to the side. He raised the gun up and pointed it at his head. His little
boney finger was sitting gently on the trigger.
"No!" I yelled as the body fell lifeless to the floor.
I zoned back to the interview and stared at the anchor. "Yes, but sadly we were ambushed,"

Is Grendel Evil? Essay
When society (humans) reject his desire to co–exist with them, he turns to evil as punishment for the
humans although it provides no solace for him.
Though he does not actually remember how he'd learned it, John Gardner's Grendel speaks a
language which is similar to that of the human characters in the book and is, therefore, able to
understand them. During Grendel's first encounter with humans, he pleads to them for assistance
when he is caught and wounded in a trap. The leader of the humans is Hrothgar who eventually
becomes king of the Danes. When Grendel's cry for help is mistaken for a cry of attack, the humans
attack Grendel and wound him more painfully than flesh could be wounded. The first intelligent,
speaking beings, with some similarity to himself, which Grendel has encountered, have attacked
instead of helped him. It is in this moment that Grendel forms his first opinions of existence; the
outside world does not seem to embrace good as he does. In a one–way conversation he has with his
mother after the incident (Chapter 2), Grendel says, " the world resists me and I resist it. That's all
there is. The mountains are what I define them as." In the statement, " the mountains are what I
define them as", Grendel starts to form a belief of a sort of reality which does not actually exist. Life
is meant to be lived as the owner wishes to live it; it is what you

Grim: My Talk with Death
Today I spoke with death, he was a nice guy, kinda negative but still very nice, could've even been
cute if it wasnt for all the bones and rotting skins. We sat at my house drinking tea, sipping it in
slowly with great care. It had a good taste, strong, a little sweety because of the sugar.
So, we both sat, staring at each other, at first it was kind of awkward, he didnt speak too much, just
sat and drank his tea from that little porcelain cup I took out of the drawer, I only used them on
special occassions but hey, its not like you meet death every day isnt it?
"Incorrect". Death replied in his raspy old voice, it seemed like with each word he lifted a heavy
burden which weighted on his soul. What struck me as even weirder was the fact that I never spoke
up, I never voiced my thoughts... "You did, in your mind." He said again sighing, it was as if he had
this conversation a million times already. "I did". He snapped at me. "Well, OK, I'll refrain from
thinking out loud around you death." I mumbled embarassed. "Thank you very much my dear." He
answered, he sounded a bit like grandmother when I sat at her house and gave her a compliment. He
felt very... Very... Home–ish.
"So, how do I call you? Should i just adress to you as Death, or would you like me to call you
differently?" I asked with true curiosity, its not like I knew too much about him, her, it, whatever
that was which stood infront of me. "Well, it depends... Which of my names would you like to use,

Wooden On Leadership : An Effective Leader
Wooden On Leadership
Lilibeth Rodriguez
RPTA
Professor Merritt
April 6, 2015
Abstract
There are many things that make a person a good leader but when narrowed down, Wooden
describes some of his steps that he uses. This paper will discuss three of the steps that Wooden uses
to be an effective leader. As well as my understanding of the steps and what I got out of them. It will
also talk about how I can relate to this steps and examples on how I can use them in order to become
a more successful leader.
John Wooden too many is known as a successful basketball coach. He coached for Kentucky High
School, South Bend Central High School, Indiana State Teachers College, and his most successful
one, UCLA. He was known for teaching good habits to his players and that is what he used to be
successful in his games and be an effective leader. In his book "Wooden on Leadership: How to
Create a Winning Organization" he talks about how exactly he developed the steps to being
successful. He gives us some of his experiences that he had and how it has hurt him or helped him
and then explains to us how we can use it to be ourselves. It is from this that I learned that to be a
successful leader, I should follow his steps. The ones that caught my attention where Good Values
Attract Good People, Emotion Is Your Enemy, and Seek Significant Change. With these steps I
realized that there was so much I could do to be a better leader.

My Brother Essay
A moral that my brother has taught me is, to Always stick with your family because you only have
them for so long. That was a moral that he taught me because it has kept me connected good with
my family. Having me more connected to my family helps me have a better relationship and
understand what is going on in my families lives. Some background about my role model is his
name is Chase and he is 15 years old, and he plays baseball, and he is a great baseball player for
East Pennsboro high school team. He has a great passion for younger kids. He also likes to help
people who need the help when needed. He is left handed and has a lot of talent for baseball. My
role model is my brother chase because he is pleasant, caring, and a humble ... Show more content

He is caring because he likes to help me practice for baseball, and he likes to help me improve in my
school work and my attitude towards things. Also he likes to help others like donate and put lots of
community service in because he thinks it is the right thing to do. What makes him caring to me is
that my family has become better from him, and also he just does so much for others before he
worries about himself. As a result he is a very nice person also because of how much he helps me
and how much he does for others. In conclusion my brother is a very caring person because he likes
to help others when they need it. Those are some reasons why he is caring, and is such a great
person.
My brother is also a great role model because he is a humble and well minded person. What makes
him a humble person is when he does something good he doesn't brag about it and he stays cool
with it and never rubs it in my face. He doesn't like to brag because it is not a good thing and it
could make people not like you as much. Along with that he also doesn't like to be a mean person
because he thinks that is the wrong thing. He doesn't like to do mean things such as pushing me
around, and decking me onto the floor. Also he is humble because he cares about others more than
himself. He cares about others because he thinks it is a good thing to be caring because others matter
too. As a result he thinks caring about others

Review Of A Shot In The Light Essay

  • 1. Review of A Shot in the Light Essay Review of A Shot in the Light The narrator is a naïve person. He believes in the best of people. It does not even cross his mind that Ray could ever hurt him. He trusts Ray. After only two days with a person he has never seen before, he trusts him. He gives Ray clothes, money, food and a reason to believe. He is a salesman with a van and some few things. He is not wealthy. He makes his living. And though he has not much to give he still gives. Ray is a player. How can he make the narrator believe in him? What does he do to make it that way? The person we see, shooting the narrator is a part of Ray. The person we see, after shooting the narrator is also a part of Ray. Ray has a split personality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maybe there is not only Satan hidden inside of him? Maybe there is something good also? He is shocked. God did not die. God cannot die. He will live on forever. But can Satan die? Can he be replaced? "A Shot in the Light". Ray cannot kill the goodness in the narrator by shooting him. By being evil. This is only a single try of evilness against the world of goodness. One little shot cannot defeat the good. But perhaps the little shot from an evil can defeat the evil? The story is called "A Shot in the Light" because it is nothing more than a single try to defeat the good. It is no big thing. Only a little shot in a world of light. It cannot do any harm. Maybe Ray sees the light after shooting against it? Maybe the light can defeat the evil inside Ray? Though the narrator does not know it, the good is looking after him: "This light, this power inside me was so strong, though I had no idea where it came from."[2] All the good in world goes together and helps the narrator. On that background the first theme is the difference between good and bad. With good shall bad be defeated. There are too much good in this world to be defeated by evil. The second theme is to take life for granted. Even the narrator takes his life for granted. He likes his life and his van, stuff, family and friends, but it is here, it has always been here and it will always be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethics: Morality and People Essay example HU4640 August 2, 2013 Project Pt. 5: My Personal Code of Ethics This was a very interesting project because I have never really concerned myself with my ethical beliefs or position. I just did what I thought was best without really thinking about it in this manner. I am glad that I had this class. It was very enlightening. My beliefs and obligations to society is very simple, treat people the way you want to be treated. I am a firm believer of the Golden Rule. You will receive respect in the long run. I value the relationships that I have with others. I view this perspective as one in which I don't really care what other people think of me personally, but I do try to establish myself as a fair individual. I never ever ... Some of the weaker members thought this was punishment but I tried to explain to them that if you don't push yourself. How can you ever know what you are able to do? They thought that by being the weaker links I was punishing them and they went to company commander about it. I explained my position to the company commander. He agreed with me, but it made me make adjustments to my program. I decided to give daily "AT A BOY". I would write letters of excellence to those who demonstrated levels far and beyond the call of duty. I counseled them and put the letter in their personnel file. That was a way to morally reward those who excelled. I give to different types of charities, sponsor different people and groups in all different types of events. I would not say that my moral code addresses self–interest because I do my best to look out for others even when it's at the expense of me. This does not mean I neglect myself. The star I seek has a power to grant anyone who obtains it a wish, when I was a child. I had heard stories about the star how an enchanting golden light surrounds it, as if it had fallen from the heavens and the air around had become thick and sweet. All the children wanted to find the star but we were all told it was just a story but no longer will it just be a story I will find the star and wish for my village back. It was 7 years ago it was a plain ordinary day in my home village of Treydelle all the children were outside playing me being one of them and the elders we're having a meeting the all of a sudden we saw flames red fiery flames the kind that would destroy anything in its way and it was headed for us we were all told to evacuate but everyone was paralyzed in fear .I ran I was the only one who did it's like the fire had control over everyone it wanted control of except me. I was the sole survivor of my village I don't who started the fire but I will take my vengeance on them whoever they are.The story I was told said that the star was on the west side of Webbrute a village it's easy to walk to because it's near my former village,I need supplies from the village the only reason I survived this long is because Treydelle was famous for its livestock and farming we carrots as orange as the colour and tomatoes as red as the flames that destroyed my village I hate those tomatoes . As I go on my Quest I should be prepared for anything bandits, monsters but I didn't care anything or anybody could come for the star but they would get because I will beat them to it .On my way to Webbrute I felt a presence behind me when I turned around I saw nothing I must just be paranoid. All of a sudden I felt another presence it's like someone wants me to become paranoid "is someone there"I screamed "no nobody's here" a groggy male voice said .Idiot is he that stupid or maybe he's drunk well I guess I'll find out "knock knock" "who's there" the voice said overly joyful "shut up you'll get us found out" a second angry voice growled "oops sorry I ... In order to face ourselves, we must know who we are and why we do certain things. Psychology allows us to do this. It is the study of people. This science allows us to look into who we are and what we are. By understanding what and how everything you do can help you make improvements. This allows the body and mind to work together, so it can give you the knowledge to help make better decisions and avoid stressful situations. It can help you achieve goals and you live comfortably with others. Both of my parents have always been very loving and given me everything I needed, but at least to me, they always seemed to be more on the strict side with me than they were with my brother. I was never allowed to many of the things my brother was allowed to do and when I tried to make the argument that their rules were unfair, they always looked at me and said, "He's a boy, you're a girl." This inequality in treatment put a tremendous strain on me and what the expectations I felt that I had to live up to. I feel like my parents strict and cold style effected me in both negative and positive ways. I feel that it made me become a much harder worker who was more motivated to achieve certain goals but it also caused a lot of insecurities when I failed at something. Moving on into my adolescent years wasn't any easier. I had no idea who I was. In fact, I changed my wardrobe and what I was into doing quite often throughout middle school. One month I'd wear a dress in hopes to be a "girly girl" and the next, I'd be dressed in all shirts with black schools pretending I knew how to skateboard. In addition to that, my friend group changed dramatically within a very short period of time. I was very confused and new to all of the things this new group of peers enjoyed doing. However, in Susan Terrance's eyes, it was a frustrating and sad day. One to mourn. Another stab, a final scream, and a early death. This was the fourth one so far. This was unheard of in the small town of Grimwald Creek. The town was too innocent, too happy. Maybe that's why someone wanted to do such a crime. To make sure that all good things came to an end. But that's not how it worked in the woman's eyes. She needed to stand up for the town she was raised in. Grimwald Creek was stronger than that. She knew it, and she just needed to prove it. It was her job afterall, to bring justice. Although, this can be hard. A knocking on the ancient wooden door tore her from her thoughts. Her head snapped up, glaring at the door in her dark green office chair. "Come in," she sighed, putting her head in her hands. "It's unlocked." Then came in a anxious Deborah Smith, blonde hair swishing behind her. "There's a two men with a file who wants to let in, Mrs. Terrence." That peaked her interest. She looked up and rose a eyebrow. "Who is it?" She asked, looking into Deb's eyes. A way of telling if the young secretary was lying or not. "I don't know," she said truthfully, looking as lost as her boss was. "All I know is that they want to talk with you." Susan hesitated for a moment, what could this mystery man want? A file? Maybe a deadbeat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was already siding with Timmy, my precious 10 year–old little brother, and I had almost no chance of winning this battle. Then I thought of something! It was risky, but it could work. "When are we going to be there? My arms are killing me. This rod and box is too heavy!" I was getting tired of listening to Timmy complain. I didn't want to yell at him in front of my friends. • 18. My Day In My Life I woke up early, about 6 am, happy and relaxed. I was, however, disappointed that I hadn't dreamed of the monkeys. I took my shower and brushed my teeth. Pleased with all my homework, I went downstairs. I had a bacon sandwich and a cup of hot chocolate. Dad signed my guardian slip for the school trip. I checked for my pencils, eraser, and pencil sharpener, and made sure that my book bag was packed and all was intact. I dressed warmly, with an extra shirt underneath. Feeling so comfortable in my outfit, I got into the car and waved to my mum. Dad dropped me off at school at 8 am. It was still early for school, so I went straight to the canteen to chat with a few friends. Before lesson were to start, Jack came to my desk. "Where did you go ... The first thing I did during my second break was to go to the school office to register. Hopefully, I would gain skills to develop robotic monkeys. It was a Tuesday, and there was a lesson. The days for the lessons were Tuesdays and Fridays. I phoned my mum and told her about it. From her reaction over the phone, it seemed she was very pleased. • 28. Persuasive Speech On Homework Being a kid is not easy, trying to juggle sports, school, and a social life is stressful and time consuming. We have lives outside of the classroom and keeping track of our work is very difficult, but there are ways to help keep the two balanced. Here are some helpful ways to keep your school life managed and still have a productive lifestyle. I've been in school for a little while now and one of the things I dreaded the most was the teacher saying "Your homework for tonight is..."Hearing those words just ruined my mood. However, homework may not be the most enjoyable thing in the world it is important. It's 10% of your grade but also allows to practice more on what you're learning. Once you get home, homework should be the first thing on your mind so you can just get it out of the way. When working on homework you should definitely turn off all electronic devices so it won't get in the way of you focusing. Another thing that could be distracting is family. As much fun as family might be, having someone there when you're trying to do classwork could get you really off topic. I have a cousin who I definitely adore and we are super close but once we get to talking there is just no stopping us. Keeping a distance from them will keep you on task and you will also get your work done faster. Once that is out of the way you can have all the time to socialize. Ever been so stressed out about a test before? Well guess what, you're not alone. Test and exams are so stressful and sometimes they could either make or break your grade. Having that kind of pressure put on you doesn't feel good but there are ways you can prep and not be so freaked out. A key thing that goes along with studying is the same with homework, turn off all devices that have nothing to do with school. For instances phones, with all this new social media coming out all you want do is snapchat friends and see what they are doing. That'll distract you from studying. Besides devices being shut down, having something calm and relaxing playing can help the brain focus more and do better. Playing classical music or maybe sounds of nature will be soothing. He believed the necessity of doing what one thinks is right even in the face of universal opposition, and the need to pursue knowledge even when opposed. "I became completely convinced, to the duty of leading the philosophical life by examining myself and others."¹ Socrates believed that to desert this idea was ridiculous and would make his life absurd. Socrates chose to live a life of truth and not to worry about things that did not matter. For Socrates not to live his life by the plans and requests of Gods it would be disobedient and untrue to the Gods. Socrates was brought to court to defend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates asks the question "Is there anyone in the world, Meletus, who acknowledges that human phenomena exist, yet does not acknowledge human beings?"9 After more questions of the same type, Meletus answers no. Socrates again proves his point. Socrates brings the irrational charge down to simple accusation because Meletus was a loss for a legitimate offense. Socrates says there is no conceivable way that a person who believes in spiritual beings does not believe in gods. The argument that proved inconsistency in Meletus' answers was: spirits exists, God created spirits, therefore, the creator of spirits exists (God). It seems that Meletus did understand the laws of the court and was simply charging Socrates with any crime he could think of. Socrates goes to say that Meletus and Anytus will go on to convict many more good men and they will not stop with him. Socrates states that it will not be Meletus and Anytus that convict but the malice and slander and great hostility that will. Socrates refutes the irreligion charge by proving that since he believes in spirits he believes in gods. "I have neglected the things that concern most people–making money, managing an estate, gaining military power or civic honours, or positions of power."10 Even today to most of the human race the good life is acquiring great status here on earth. Inside was dry earth and cold silver. That was where we went, Del and I. I thought it looked like the poor–man's version of a piece of playground equipment. From a playground from not too far away, on the other side of the river bank – away, closer to the worst kind of civilisation. A human–hamster–wheel – that was what it was called. When a person lies inside and there's light at either ends of the tunnel and you have to peddle fast with your hands and feet, all the way round in a cylindrical loop. Not so easy to stop. Not–suitable–for–children–under– four – that's what the sign would say, even when it was smeared with a streak of blue from a can of spray paint. The four year olds would go in and fall out and break an arm over the course of an afternoon play session. A council inspector in a striped high–visibility vest would arrive to look over the equipment. Then they would walk past us and look up at the abandoned buildings of Briar Hills High School and shake their head at the eyesore. They would probably write some notes too. One of us would go outside just to burst a tyre on their car. The council always parked in the same place marked with a faded yellow line. It was right in front of the barrier which looked like a brittle and old fence to them but to us it meant we could hide and forget. When they parked near the barrier it was too close. ... • 34. Why I Should Take A Shower Of course Finn hadn 't gone in my room, twenty dollars had just dissapeared. Damn, I should have kicked his ass. What could Mom do about it anyway? Whatever, it 's only twenty bucks. Elli said he 'd be here to pick me up around five, which means he 'll proably show up around five thirty. So I still have about half an hour to kill. I decide that I really should take a shower, mainly just to kill time while avoiding my mom. I take a cold ten minute shower before returning to my room. While I was showering I 'd missed a text from Sky "where are you? we 're waiting out front" Thankfully the text is only two minutes old, so I have time to hurry a reply, grab my stuff and run out the door. "Get in already, Wyght!" Elli yells from the open window of his van. Elli 's van is our only mode of transportation, which definately isn 't ideal. The van is black and really old, and is a semi–passanger van and semi–cargo van. What I mean by that is that there are five seats, along with a cargo area. This is a bad setup for us, as our band has six members, but we make it work, most often by having Alex sit on someone 's lap, normally Dexter 's. Mainly because Alex is tiny, and can 't weigh more than a hundred pounds, and Dexter never really complains about the setup, which is understandable, because Alex is pretty hot for a short, bitchy stoner. I climb into the back, where Sky, Dexter, and Alex are (Sam called shotgun, as usual) When I get in Alex rolls her eyes and climbs onto Dexter 's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Student Self-Assessment Reflection Chelsie Vogel Student Self–Assessment Reflection When creating a self–assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self–assessment that would be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self– assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading, discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self–reflection of their learning. The student was asked to circle thumbs–up (always), thumbs–middle (sometimes), and thumbs– down (not yet). I prefer using the term "not yet" because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a failure. After allowing the student to complete the self–assessment privately, I was able to sit down with them, take notes, and have a mini–conference to dive deeper into their responses. For the statements, "I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important," Student N circled thumbs–up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading. Student N also circled a thumbs–up for the statement, "I enjoy reading at home." I asked the student if they read a lot at home and they responded with, "I don't really read a lot at home. I like video games and watching TV." I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they liked about it. Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By their response, I could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family member versus reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs–up responses to "I think I'm a good reader and I don't have a problem finding books to read." Student N seems confident in their reading and is aware of what they enjoy reading. Student N gave a thumbs–middle for "I am comfortable reading aloud in class." I shared with him that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also shared that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This will help me build our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when they are reading or if they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I really liked this school but mama said "Oh, you poor child we must go your father has just got promoted again." I knew that was the end of that. Mama doesn't like when I argue so I don't. As my papa got home I said, "How was work." He did not respond to that though so I took it like he did not have a good day. I thought to myself I wonder did he have a good day mama said he got promoted. As I walked into my room to change into my play clothes I heard my friends yell, "Dude you coming out?" I sighed, "Yeah." I darted down stairs and told mama that I would be back before dusk. I ran outside and a man came up to me and said, "Listen kid I'm goanna kill you if you don't give that hat and that watch too, OR ELSE!" I started to run and he chased me to the city and of course I fell. The man grab me by the arm and said "if you eve–I cut him off "If I ever WHAT?" He punched me in the jaw and I laughed "A girl can hit harder than that!" For my smart mouth he did again this time my loose tooth came out and I told him "do it again might make ya feel better." Dealing with the stock market, the coming up of new inventions, all the way to the types of music people listened to. During the 1980s, the only thing that made Americans be "Americans" was because of the things they were provided with. Many Americans had fun throughout the 1980s with materialistic, glamorous, and technological life styles; therefore there were different economical problems that Americans faced. During the 1980's, many Americans were incredibly materialistic; they were only concerned with the "things" in life, not with life as it was. In the musical world, Madonna was becoming popular. First off, one of the most common styles was the retro style. Retro was, in a way, inspired by disco. Americans would often wear flares, which were types of jeans where the legs got bigger and "flared" out towards the bottom of the foot (CITATION, #). This proves that retro was just one of the major fashion statements in the 1980s. Another style that Americans tried out was the Glamour style. This fashion included top of the line designers like CoCo Chanel, Versace, and Oscar de la Renta. These designers made a significant impact on the glamorous lifestyle. Glamorous was over the top, but in a fashionable or unique way that people like to dress (CITATION, #). People would wear skirts with a huge puffball at the bottom of it, or switch it up to a nice tight fitting pencil skirt. The economy was a huge factor. Obviously people wanted the best of the best, but the economy was not doing that well (CITATION, #). There were some bad things about the agriculture. Since the United States is just coming out of a recession, they were working on rebuilding businesses in the city so they could expand their business and try to earn back some of the money they lost. This proves that at this point in the 80s, life was not so glamorous because people had to worry about earning back the assets that they lost along with businesses. The farm economy was ... The mist acts like a thin blanket, dampening my senses, making the world just a little quieter, a little calmer. All around me are the sounds and smells of pure, serene nighttime. To my left is the pond; ducks are huddled along the shoreline, sometimes ruffling their feathers or making a sleepy murmur. Who is to say that the death of millions is any worse or better, for that matter, than injuring a cockroach. And in the case of an existing power in the form of God, who is presumed to be all which is good, presiding and ruling an organized universe, why then does evil exist? The prosaic response of "without evil, there is no good" no longer holds any validity in this argument as the admitted goal of good is to reach an existence without evil. So even if a God does exist, I think it is fair, at this point, to say that he is the embodiment of both good and evil. Within the society which humans have created and live in, there are certain ideals which are reinforced actively by written law and organized religion. Since there is no evidence that any omniscient, eternal being actually organized a faith dedicated to itself and especially for the fact that no such being exists in the society of a creature such as Grendel (with no society within which he belongs); I will say that no God has any power over Grendel (he has not been told that one even exists). For Grendel, there is no reinforcement of which ethics, good or evil, he should abide by and therefore he is able to make a more honest decision of which way to live. Since the world which he sought to embrace, rejected him, he is forced to make a decision. He must choose between a self–exile in which he would live a life separate from the humans with which he shares the ground which they walk on, or to take form as a God himself and seek punishment for those who wronged him, essentially, Hrothgar the King of the Scyldings. She was my absolute best friend and I could not imagine living 1,300 miles away. Growing up, we were resentful of each other. We used words and actions to get our point across. Not only did we slap each other, but also kicked and punched. I cried even if it didn't hurt. After hearing me cry, my dad would scoop me in his arms and at the same time, discipline my sister. It was satisfying if you had asked my 8 year old self. After all, Madison turned into my soul mate, as I began middle school, up until she had graduated high school. From watching movies until our eyes were not susceptible to keep open, laughing convulsively about nothing until we heard our momma's voice bellow from the next room, and finally, walking into my room after I got out of the shower to see her snuggled in my bed. But all of that has come to a halt, at least until we are reunited once again. At this point, Nick had become Madison's boyfriend. He had brown hair and icy eyes that glistened. He was a year older than her and he became more like a brother to me growing up. However, years had gone by and Nick chose to go into the Navy. This was to start a life for themselves, because he knew that someday he was going to make Madison his wife. After an enduring 3 months of boot camp, and another 5 months of "A" school, he had graduated to being a gunners mate. That "someday" had become closer as the days went on. With just a few short months of Madison completing her dreadful, final year of school, the whole family headed down to a tiny Lutheran church in Southern Minnesota. The two were wed. Within hours after the reception, Nick had to be back in Illinois for his Naval obligations. June sixth, that was the day. Most children cannot wait for the day that their sibling moves out, or to be an only child, but that wasn't me. I didn't want it to be real. It didn't feel real, but it was. Where everything is taken to the most extreme levels and assumed to be hate speech or that it of course must be meant in the worst possible way. There are of course times where people do take things too far and mean them in the worst of ways. Although, that is not what this is about. This is about the destruction of free speech to the extent of teaching people to might as well not have "free thinking." • 64. Welfare Causes Poverty in America Essay There seems to be an increase in poverty in the United States and there are so many theories behind why this might be a problem. It seems as if Society as a whole wants to blame this social "condition" on Society itself. I believe that the problem of poverty lies within the actual individuals that are experiencing poverty. There are a few reasons why people experience poverty. They are as follows: One, the liberal welfare programs that were started in the 1960's, two, individuals lack the characteristic of power and individuality, three, anti–social behavior and the idea that poverty passes from one generation to the next. The liberal welfare programs were started in the 1960s to help individuals obtain better job skills by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems as if they were unable to say no to the provided or shall I say free support and unable to say yes to the ability to gain and be able to support their selves. It was so much easier to have someone to do it for them. Not only did they lack integrity but they lacked the power and confidence needed to make it on their own. These individuals knew that the government has been and will continue to support them so they became even lazier. These individuals became lazy and began to involve themselves with only individuals of the sort, which developed into anti– social behavior. Once the anti–social behavior sets in we can't train these individuals to assimilate into society, we can't train these people to be like you and me. We can't train these people to be normal. I classify normal as someone who is willing to support or at least try to support themselves on a regular basis. If I can work to support me, my family and "you" why can't you work to support "you", this includes your family also. Children are indeed a product of their environment. Being a product of your environment can be a good thing or it can be a bad thing depending on your environment. In the eyes of poverty I do believe that it is a bad thing because poverty seems to be passed on from generation to generation. You can't expect the next generation to be any better than the last when they aren't able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I brought with me a bag to carry my important belongings that included my passport, my culture, Religion, university degree, and the book of childhood memories, for the days that my new life may need. My heart was divided in two pieces, one piece holds all the love for my family and my friends and the other part has all the grief for all my beautiful belongs that I can't bring with me in my bag. I was born and raised on the gender roles, traditions and customs, that a woman's place is in the home and take care of the husband and kids this does not match with the American culture. My memory was When I left my country no one say goodbye because they hate the words of farewell. Shortly after the passage of time I realized all my stuff had brought with me I no longer need it. My culture is a very difficult not give us the freedom to live as we want. We are Easterners and must go in our lives like our parents and grandparents did. • 68. My Best Friend "Goooooaaaaaallllllll!!!!!" Khayone screamed as I ran back screaming that we won. Khayone has been my best friend for the past 5 years. I met him on Saturday, October 14, 1995. I remember every moment of that day vividly. How could I ever forget the day I met my best friend? It all started when my Mom and I were lugging two big buckets of water each all the way home from the town's water hole. . My feet were killing me! We had to walk ten miles each way to get water twice a week. I was willing to do it though. Anything was better than working in the field with my father all day. We were finally almost home when we heard laughing and screaming from some kids in a field near our house. One of them saw me and hollered,"Hey! You want to come play soccer with us?" I nervously replied,"Ummm, I've never played before, so I don't know if I should." He told me,"Don't worry bud, we won't hurt you." I told him,"Okay. I guess I'll play with y'all," as I walked out onto the makeshift field they had made out of sticks. I could barely see the ball because the grass was almost as tall as the ball, but it was still fun to hang out with people my own age for once. After about an hour of sprinting around in the blazing hot sun, I heard my mom yell, "Meet me at home when you get done Sweetie! I love you to the moon and back!" My face turned as red as a tomato. Why does she always have to embarrass me like that? Every time I touched the ball after that, someone would scream,"Pass it here ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. The Night "You only bring pain," he said. Tripping, I place my hand on the bathroom door and rush inside. The door swings behind me as I rush to the stall. "We're here to help," I told him and he backed up into the wall. It wasn't the flashlight he was afraid of, it was me. I lean on the stall door and look down at the floor. I breathe in and out trying to calm myself down. What is wrong with you, James? Why can't you stop having these visions? My hand reaches for the toilet paper. Shaking, it rips a piece off and I dab my wet forehead trying to remove the sweat that feels like it won't disappear. "You said you actually talked to one of them?" I sat in a white chair in an interview on live television. "Yes," I said nodding my head in agreement. "Well, what did he say?" The news anchor leaned in closer as I kept my head to the floor. I sighed and scratched my head while speaking. "He said he was scared ... and ... and wanted me to help him," I stated. "And did you?" he asked again. I flashed out and looked at the boy sitting there. "Please let me help you," I said to him. He got to his feet and ran out of the house. I started to run after the little boy. I got there and in his hand was the gun that I kicked to the side. He raised the gun up and pointed it at his head. His little boney finger was sitting gently on the trigger. "No!" I yelled as the body fell lifeless to the floor. I zoned back to the interview and stared at the anchor. "Yes, but sadly we were ambushed," I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Is Grendel Evil? Essay In a world of chaos, he who lives, lives by his own laws and values. And if humoring those who would answer the previous question with the response that there can be no good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When society (humans) reject his desire to co–exist with them, he turns to evil as punishment for the humans although it provides no solace for him. Though he does not actually remember how he'd learned it, John Gardner's Grendel speaks a language which is similar to that of the human characters in the book and is, therefore, able to understand them. During Grendel's first encounter with humans, he pleads to them for assistance when he is caught and wounded in a trap. The leader of the humans is Hrothgar who eventually becomes king of the Danes. When Grendel's cry for help is mistaken for a cry of attack, the humans attack Grendel and wound him more painfully than flesh could be wounded. The first intelligent, speaking beings, with some similarity to himself, which Grendel has encountered, have attacked instead of helped him. It is in this moment that Grendel forms his first opinions of existence; the outside world does not seem to embrace good as he does. In a one–way conversation he has with his mother after the incident (Chapter 2), Grendel says, " the world resists me and I resist it. That's all there is. The mountains are what I define them as." In the statement, " the mountains are what I define them as", Grendel starts to form a belief of a sort of reality which does not actually exist. Life is meant to be lived as the owner wishes to live it; it is what you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Grim: My Talk with Death Today I spoke with death, he was a nice guy, kinda negative but still very nice, could've even been cute if it wasnt for all the bones and rotting skins. We sat at my house drinking tea, sipping it in slowly with great care. It had a good taste, strong, a little sweety because of the sugar. So, we both sat, staring at each other, at first it was kind of awkward, he didnt speak too much, just sat and drank his tea from that little porcelain cup I took out of the drawer, I only used them on special occassions but hey, its not like you meet death every day isnt it? "Incorrect". Death replied in his raspy old voice, it seemed like with each word he lifted a heavy burden which weighted on his soul. What struck me as even weirder was the fact that I never spoke up, I never voiced my thoughts... "You did, in your mind." He said again sighing, it was as if he had this conversation a million times already. "I did". He snapped at me. "Well, OK, I'll refrain from thinking out loud around you death." I mumbled embarassed. "Thank you very much my dear." He answered, he sounded a bit like grandmother when I sat at her house and gave her a compliment. He felt very... Very... Home–ish. "So, how do I call you? Should i just adress to you as Death, or would you like me to call you differently?" I asked with true curiosity, its not like I knew too much about him, her, it, whatever that was which stood infront of me. "Well, it depends... Which of my names would you like to use, is it my full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
