1. Audience Feedback
As we finished our documentary we needed to get feedback off our audience to see
what they thought about our social action project. To find out our feedback we
created a questionnaire for our audience to fill out. We got a range of different
people to watch our documentary, this included four people ages 16-25, two people
aged 36-45 and lastly two people aged 56-65. We thought it would be good to get a
wide range of audiences as we can get different feedback. Not only was it good for
feedback but it also showed how large our range of audience is for our documentary
and how most ages can relate to the crimes that occured.
Our feedback needed to be as mixed as possible so having a range of different
genres was good, we managed to get both 4 male and 4 female to watch our
documentary and fill out the questionnaire. Also having a range of ethnicity can show
that we want everyone to see what crimes are occurring and to see that not
everyone is being stereotyped. This is why we managed to get four white british, one
white other, one black british, one asian british and one asian other. Our audience
was mainly in full time work or as a full time student, this shows the difference
between our target audience.
Each member of our audience had a wide range of residence. This shows that as we
are filming in barkingside and showing what crimes are occuring. People in other
areas can also relate and still watch out for these crimes as most of our audience
live in redbridge where our social action project is based. Three people live in
barkingside, one lives in hainault, one in gants hill and two people in other. This
showed us that 37.5% of our audience lived in barkingside which is a high
percentage where crimes occur. Furthermore our audience feedback showed us that
all of our audience lived in redbridge for more than 11 years. This shows us that our
audience know the area of redbrige and can relate to what we show in our
documentary. 50% of our audience have lived in redbridge for 19 years or over, 3
people lived in redbridge for 15-18 years and one person has live in redbridge for 11-
14 years. As our audience have lived in redbridge for quite some time it shows that
they will care for their area and will be happy to help fight crime to make redbridge
safe.
Throughout the course of audience feedback we asked our audience members if
they feel safe in redbridge and we found that only three people out of 8 felt safe. To
make the area more safe we need to make sure people understand what crimes are
going on and how people can prevent them from happening. As 5 people don't feel
safe in redbridge it tell us that something needs to be done and they should be able
to feel safe in their local area. The next question we asked our audience was if our
audience feel that crime has improved or worsen in the past few years. All of our
2. audience answered with worsen. This shows that crime has been getting worse over
the past years and changes need to be done before the crime rates get higher.
Furthermore we wanted to know what our audience was regarding changes in
crime. The audience feedback we then got showed that people have seen increases
in crime such as more burglaries, thefts and anti social behaviour, this means
something needs to be done as crime has been increasing in the local area. We also
found out that only 3 out of the possible 8 people have been a victim of crime in the
past, this is quite high considering its nearly half of our audience. Something should
be done about this as crime can keep on increasing over time and more people can
become affected. Our social action project can help people who have been affected
as we include information and helplines at the end of our documentary.
In addition after our audience watched our social action project we then asked them
if the documentary then made them more aware of crimes occurring in redbrige and
we ended up getting a very positive feedback of all 8 members of the audience
saying yes. This allows us to know that our documentry can help people and make
others understand the crimes going on and how to prevent them from happening. As
our audience answered yes we then added a follow up question asking what they
learnt. We had responses such as how they learnt the different crimes that have
been occurring in the local area. Most of our audience found out that the police
station in barkingside is closing down, many people in our audience found this
shocking. People also noticed to become more aware of their surrounding as many
people can get assated if they aren't careful and don't pay attention at times. The
information we provided was very helpful for our audience as they all came back with
positive feedback resulting in 8 yes’s in our question regarding if they found the
information helpful.
However as our audience found our documentary helpful we then asked what they
liked about it to see what our audience may want more of. These included interviews
with the officer as they were able to find out reliable information from someone who
works on crimes. Another feature that our audience enjoyed are the reconstructions
were included as it gave our audience an understanding on what the victims are
talking about. They also enjoyed the mixture of content used in the documentary as
they were able to watch different crimes and hear stories from other victims.
3. As we asked our audience what they liked about the documentary we thought it
would be useful to know what they did not like to help us improve and see what we
done wrong. Our audience answered with the charts on screen that covered the
officer was unprofessional as they couldn't see the officer. Another answer included
that the Logo of our documentary didn't seem up to the professional standard. Our
audience also felt that some interviews lasted too long and should have been shorter
as people may start to get bored after a while. Lastly there were some sound
problems that could have been improved as in some parts of the documentary our
audience couldn’t understand what was being said. As we found out what they
disliked about our documentary we thought it would be useful to find out what we
could have improved. These included, having better hosts that have experience with
documentaries. Also having a wider rage of shots can allow the audience to feel
more engaged and not get bored by one or two shots each scene. Lastly they
thought we should include more interviews with authority figures who know their
statistics. Our audience thought that some lighting in scene should be improved such
as some of the interviews where it may look quite dark or when light starts shining in
someone's face.
However despite the negative feedback on our documentary on what can be
improved and what people disliked we found that 6 out of 8 people thought that our
social action project meets the professional standard of other documentaries, this
shows us as a group that we worked well and managed to create a project suitable
to be aired on TV. we also asked our audience who answered no on how we can
meet a professional standard. Our audine came up with improving our camera work,
more professional hosts and improve sound. These are just like the answers we got
on what our audience didn't like about the documentary, there can still be some
improving done.
As we wanted to know if our audience have learnt anything we also wanted to see if
our social action project impacted our audience, we got feedback of 5 out of 8 people
who answered yes. This tells us that people have been impacted but there are still
some missing parts in our project that can help influence everyone. We also asked
our audience if our social action project has influenced them to take action in
redbridge to try and reduce crime. 4 out of 8 people answered yes, this is a mixed
answer as some people feel that they should be an upstander and help, but others
don't want to help and just be a bystander. This may be because they don't feel
confident or just don't want to. As we want our social action project to make people
think different on crime and help prevent it, we then asked our audience if they think
our project can bring about social change. 7 out of 8 people answered yes meaning
that we are able to make people realise what's going on in redbridge and what
changes need to be made to help prevent crime. Our last question relates to the
question before on if our audience thinks our project can bring about social change.
We asked our audience if they answered yes, how? How will our project bring
around social change. The audience started to state answers such as people will
4. become more aware of crime and their surroundings. Others said that people should
start to improve their security in their houses.
