Analyze Learners
The learners are in a special education, first grade class. The class is made up of 10 boys and 7 girls. 70% of the class is white, 20% are African-American and 10% are Hispanic.7 students in the class have mild to severe ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
State Objectives
My students will recite the months of the year after learning a song to memorize the names of months, looking at pictures of different weather conditions that occur in the months, and looking at calendars by the end of the week with 85 % accuracy.
Select the 3 Ms
Methods: I will have my students look at calendars and learn a song about the months of the year. They will be placed in groups of 4 and one group of 5. They will think and discuss what month their birthdays are in and then we will make a list of the birthdays and place them also on the calendar in the appropriate date boxes.
Media: I will have my students watch a power point with pictures of events that happen in each month and explain seasons to help them understand the order of the months.
Materials: Calendar, markers, chart paper, cd player/Ipad for music, and a computer with a projector/ or smart board to show the PowerPoint.
Utilize Media and Materials
Media and material are wonderful resources for students and teachers as long as they are both used correctly. To find interactive work sheets I will look on teacherspayteachers.com to find free and cheap downloads. For my lesson on the months of the year I want all materials and media to be student centered and I need to make sure to do activities that have the children not just sit at their desk doing worksheets especially for my students with ADHD, they won’t be able to sit and concentrate on one task for a long period of time. I will need to preview my materials so I don’t come in and end up with material that isn’t good quality or is boring to students. I should have the students know what we are going to be doing before I just through the lesson at them. I will incorporate a video I personally make using a program such as Moviemaker to get the students interested in the concept being taught. I will use a Voki to give directions to my students so it is a fun way versus always writing directions on the whiteboard.
Require Learner Participation
It is important for all students to participate in the lesson on the months of the year lesson. To accomplish this I must have paid attention to my students and found out what types of learners I have in my class. It is important to teach in a way that all my students will understand. I should not just teach out loud or by showing pictures I need to doing both along with activities that

involve movement. To see how much the students learned I need to get feedback from the children and see if I should be doing something different to meet their learning needs in a more efficient way.
Evaluate and Revise
I should evaluate to see if my students learned the months of the year. I need to evaluate how my lesson went and how the media I used in the lesson worked out. Did it accomplish what I wanted it to? Were there any technical difficulties? Was it more trouble than I thought it would be? I should be paying attention throughout the whole lesson to see how my students are doing with the lesson at hand. I need to evaluate their knowledge about the months of the year compared to their knowledge when they first started the lesson. Did they learn all the months? Do I need to go back and reteach this lesson? If this lesson needs improvements, how could I do that?
