1. Kalie McIntosh ASSURE LESSON #1 12/9/14
Monday Lesson One
Analyze Learners
The learners are in a third grade general education classroom. The class is made up of 9 boys
and 8 girls. 70% of the class is white, 20% are African-American and 10% are Hispanic. Two
children in the class have autism and behavioral problems
State ObjectivesDay 1:
My students will compose a chart that includes the three main things an animal needs to survive:
water, food, and shelter. After having a class discussion, reading a book called BASIC NEEDS
by Jean Feldman and Holly Karapetkova, and working with partners on a SmartBoard Activity to
come up with a list by the end of the day with 85 % accuracy.
Select the 3 Ms
Methods: As a class we will discuss what animals need to survive and read a book about animal
needs. Students will be paired up with a partner and will take turns doing a SmartBoard Activity.
Media: I will have my students watch a YouTube Video on animal needs. They will also be
taking turns working on a SmartBoard Activity.
Materials: Basic Needs book, markers, chart paper, and a computer with a projector/ SmartBoard
to show the YouTube video and do the SmartBoard activity.

Utilize Media and Materials
Media and material are wonderful resources for students and teachers as long as they are both
used correctly. I will make sure to preview everything I use before using it with students. I want
to make sure that all links and technology are working correctly. If they are not I need to make
sure that I have a back-up plan.
I will have all materials that students need prepared before doing this lesson. I will make that all
markers are able to be used and I will make sure to have enough chart paper.
2. Kalie McIntosh ASSURE LESSON #1 12/9/14
I will prepare my students for what it is we will be doing that day. The previous days before the
lesson is to be taught, I will give a brief description on our class blog so parents and students will
know what it is we will be trying to accomplish and what activities I have planned for students to
do.
Require Learner Participation
It is important for all students to participate in the lesson on the months of the year lesson. To
accomplish this I must have paid attention to my students and found out what types of learners I
have in my class. It is important to teach in a way that all my students will understand. I should
not just teach out loud or by showing pictures I need to doing both along with activities that
involve movement. To see how much the students learned I need to get feedback from the
children and see if I should be doing something different to meet their learning needs in a more
efficient way.
Evaluate and Revise
I should evaluate to see if my students learned the three basic needs of animals . I need to
evaluate how my lesson went and how the media I used in the lesson worked out. Did it
accomplish what I wanted it to? Were there any technical difficulties? Was it more trouble than I
thought it would be? I should be paying attention throughout the whole lesson to see how my
students are doing with the lesson at hand. I need to evaluate their knowledge about the needs of
animals at the end of the lesson compared to their knowledge when they first started the lesson.
Did they learn the three needs?Do they understand that humans and animals have the same three
basic needs? Do I need to go back and reteach this lesson? If this lesson needs improvements,
how could I do that?
