A Young Mother And A Healthy Baby
On August 24, 2016, a young mother went into labor. About five hours later she gave birth to a baby
girl. Well so she thought. The mother ended up going into cardiac rest after five minutes of giving
birth. The doctors were puzzled. A young healthy mother and a healthy baby. The doctors heard the
NICU nurses screaming so they took off. They all look around. From what was a healthy baby had
turned into an 87–year–old female. The doctors looked stumbled. There was no father to be found.
"What is everyone staring at me for?" the woman asked. "Ashley, go call the government" the head
doctor whispered quietly to the head nurse. The nurse went and called the government while the
other doctors and nurses try to contain the woman while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quickly ran to the other half of the building. The lieutenant along with the Deputy Chief entered
the building where she had run back into. "Ma'am, we are with the government and we need to
speak to nurse Ashley from the NICU," the deputy chief said while showing his badge. "She'll be
right with you!" the secretary said as she placed the call. As the nurse came down to speak with the
deputy chief, the woman put her hair where her face was and gracefully exited the hospital. She was
able to get past everyone. She decided her best bet was to call her grandmother and go stay with her.
Her grandmother lived four states away. Her information on a card that was given to her by the
secretary. So, the woman called her. "Hello?" another woman answered. "Hi, is this Christina's
mother?" the woman asked. "May I ask who's calling?" the grand mother asked. "Your
granddaughter. I don't know what my name is because my mom died five minutes after my birth,"
the woman replied. "My daughter is dead!" the grandmother asked now crying over her daughter's
death. "Yes. She passed unfortunately. But the hospital said that you were my grandmother and I
have no where to go. I have no dad and no mom," the woman said and the grandmother decided to
cut her off. "Wait! How could you be my child's daughter? How are you speaking to me?" the
grandmother asked. "Well funny story," the woman replied. As she told the grandmother the story,

My Life
"I lay in Death's arms; writhing in feverish pain, my stomach drawn tight from hunger. I talked with
the Great Spirit and asked him to take me, to release me from my torment, but he said it was not my
time. He said that I must learn to see, not with my eyes, but with my heart, my spirit within. "He
nourished my body with the blood of the bear, which gave me strength, then said, that because I was
brave, I would live. I was to teach my people of his ways. The Great Spirit told me that when the
yellow mocker called, and I lay in death's final arms, that I would again be able to see," he paused,
looking into his fire. "Did I die?" asked Two Feathers thoughtfully. "I do not know, but I was dead in
the darkness. For how long; I do not know. When I awoke, my sight was gone. They whispered of
my eyes, saying the snow had taken my sight. I told them that Death, had taken my sight. That
Death rode a pale horse and was chasing the bear, and when we smashed together, death caught me
and tried to claim my spirit. "Running Horse and Tutolaka did not see the bear, or death. They say
that I fall down. That I was ill and talking out of my head. That it had been two moons ago and they
could not carry me and the deer, so they had stayed with me. For that, I know they were my friends.
"Why was I chosen? I do not know. Only, that I must tell everyone of the Great Spirit's ways, how
he saved me from Death, and how we should care for one another. We should prepare for our days

An Expected Tragedy Occurred On My Life
July 7th, 2012 an expected tragedy occurred. It's amazing how we take things for granted. We go
throughout our day thinking everything is going to be fine with the plans we made, and don't think
twice about how our plans can be taken away at any moment. I didn't think about it much, until I
was faced with a wake–up call, a death of my grandmother. I don't think anybody really thinks about
a misfortune until they are faced with one.
Around 1ish on July 7th, 2012 we were told to come to the hospital because of an emergency with
my grandma. My family and I rushed to get there. In my head I was wondering what was going on
and what was going to happen to her. I was so nervous because it was so unexpected to me because

There's also a curtain that's attached to a metal railing on the celling, the can wrap around the
patients bed. In the second part of the room there's two couches. One by the window and one on the
left of the couch by the window. Beside the couch by the window there another small table.
My family and I saw her on her death bed. She was laying down, still alive in her hospital dress with
tubes coming from her body. She couldn't talk and she was so stiff. Her arms were bigger than they
were supposed to be and they were very pale and a bit purple and blue. Her face was very puffy and
pale too. I felt so speechless, gloomy, and sorry. Tears were coming down my face just seeing her
like that. It seemed that they didn't stop coming down from my face. I pulled some tissues from the
tissue box and whipped my tears. As I looked over I saw my mother, sister, brother, and dad were
crying as well.
Then, I overheard the adults saying they tried to give her a liver from a family member but none of
theirs matched my grandmothers. So the doctors said they were going to wait for another patient to
die so they can do the liver transplant because the patient had the type of liver my grandmother
needed. Time flew by and more people were showing up to support her. When other people came in
they started crying as soon as they saw how my grandmother looked. One of her friends went up to

Analysis Of The Lock Of The Old Two Story House
"I can't believe this is really going to be our new place..." Brielle admitted, as she turned the key in
the lock of the old two story house. It was a bright sunny day in the middle of June in central Iowa,
and the twin sisters, Brielle and Audrey, were getting their dream come true. Since they were little
they had been dreaming of getting to live in their grandparent's house. The old two–story white
house held so many memories. Today, it looked different than it had when they were young. The
white paint was beginning to chip, and the blue shutters had faded from the royal blue they once
were. The girls stood on the massive wrap–around porch looking up at the house. Growing up, this
house had been like a second home to them. Brielle and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brielle turned the brass door handle and pushed open the old wooden door and went inside,
followed by Audrey. Right away, they got to work cleaning. They were in the kitchen when their
mom walked in the house to help. Their mom lived about ten minutes away, and the girls knew that
she was more than willing to come help them get moved in.
"Hey, I'm so glad you're here!" exclaimed Audrey.
"Yeah, so am I, we still have a lot to do." agreed Brielle.
"Alright girls, I'll finish the kitchen if you two want to move on to the bedrooms. Hopefully you'll be
able to stay here tonight." instructed Mom.
They left their mom in the kitchen, and went upstairs to the bedrooms. They started with what had
been the guest bedrooms, there were three of them, and saved their grandmother 's room for last. A
few hours later, they were onto their grandmother 's room. Their mother was still working on the
downstairs.
"Well, here we are..." Audrey sighed, looking around the room.
"This room looks the same as it did when Grandma lived here, it seems so wrong to move
everything." Brielle said, feeling guilty. The room 's maroon flowered wallpaper was still intact, and
it was equipped with the same bedroom outfit their grandparents had purchased after their wedding.
The bed still had the multicolored quilt their great grandmother had made as a wedding gift so many
years before.

"Jordyn get up," yelled my mom. I rolled over to my side and groaned at the sight that it was only
eight o'clock. But then I remembered that my cousins were coming to my grandparent's green and
white house this weekend. I loved spending time out on my grandparent's farm. There are sheep that
are as fluffy as the clouds, grass and trees that sway with the wind and give off a fresh smell, and so
many different barns with so much different equipment that I have never seen before. That's when I
hopped out of bed and got ready faster than a rabbit can run. I put on my pink t–shirt with all of the
Mickey Mouse characters with my old jeans that had rips on them. Then to complete my outfit, I put
on my grey GAP sweatshirt that had the letters G–A–P filled out with the colors of navy blue and
red. Next, I quickly through my hair up and into a pony tail and brushed my teeth and I was ready to
go. I went upstairs by my dad and my sister, Ashley, and kept bothering my mom saying, "Let's go!"
Then finally about twenty minutes later my mom came out to the living room and said, "Let's head
out to grandmas and grandpas." I bolted down the stairs and put on my old, white, sneaker shoes.
The ride there seemed to drag on and on for an eternity because I was so excited. Then finally we
reached the last turn and I saw the house. Once we go there, I ran out of the car and into the house
and was greeted by my cousins, Matthew and Josh and my Aunt Sue and my Uncle Mike. After

Culture And Its Impact On Culture
Culture is a combination of many aspects of life that have been passed down for generation.
Customs, beliefs, values and behaviors that become more specified to specific groups that tend to
mimic themselves within a group are the broad range themes that come up when one discusses
culture. Culture can exist on many different planes simultaneously. Culture is subjective and the way
in which specific cultures are defined changes constantly. Researchers Kroeber and Kluckhohn state
that "Culture consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted
by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievement of human groups, including their embodiments
in artefacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional (i.e. historically derived and selected)
ideas and especially their attached values; culture systems may, on the one hand, be considered as
products of action, on the other as conditioning elements of further action." (1952, p. 181) This
description of culture largely aligns with generally accepted definitions of culture but briefly
considers that culture can also be a product of action. I believe that culture is grounded in traditions
of the past but suggest that it could not exist without the continued evolution of the key elements
that define the concept. For the purpose of this paper I will describe culture as not only the
experiences that came before but the enduring and modifiable traits that allow culture to be
completely unique

Journey of an Ethnic Orphan:
Cultural Essay
Over the past 100 years my family has come from many places of origin Lebanon, Spain, Ireland,
Russia, Germany and many others. over the past century there's been a breakdown and separation
amongst the family and its traditions that we used to have. There's so much left to my imagination
regarding my culture and ethnicity, but there is some that I am aware of from questioning people
such as my mother, father, grandmother and other extended family members. Being an ethnic orphan
is basically saying that whatever traditions and sense of culture we may have had in the past is very
vague for the most part because of assimilation and geographical relocation. Although much is left

After he went the first time he came home and told me how much fun it had been. It immediately
struck my interest and I started attending the Presbyterian Church as well. Throughout high school
and into college I attended this Presbyterian Church and continued to grow in the Christian religion.
Most of my life I hang on to the beliefs and values that are taught in the Bible, something that molds
my own values and traditions now as an adult.
Importance
of family.
Growing up the importance of family was highly stressed. You must do anything for your family.
Even if it meant doing something wrong. One of the things that my family has both held onto was
the importance of family. The reason I believe that this was highly stressed is because of the
breakdown and the separation of the family. Some families moved to California, Some stayed on the
East Coast and some scattered in between. It was important to hold onto family because we were
taught that family is all we have. When I was 11 ironically my mother and my father got a divorce.
It devastated me, not only was my family torn apart but everything I had been taught about
sacrificing for the good of the family was disregarded at their convenience. Throughout my years as
a child and young adult I have held on to the values that I must still hold onto a strong sense of
family. I wanted to do what so many other family members could not, maintain a lasting marriage.
There are many reasons my mother

Essay on Margaret Laurence's A Bird in the House
Margaret Laurence's A Bird in the House
Margaret Laurence's A Bird in the House differentiates itself from the four other novels that make up
the 'Manawaka series' that has helped establish her as an icon of Canadian literature. It does not
present a single story; instead, it is a compilation of eight well–crafted short stories (written between
the years 1962 and 1970) that intertwine and combine into a single narrative, working as a whole
without losing the essential independence of the parts.
It tells – at least on a surface level – of the childhood of a young girl named Vanessa MacLeod , and
of her trials and tribulations in the small Manitoban town of Manawaka. The narrative style of the
stories is important, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most importantly, it is a story of captivity, of failed attempts at freedom, and of one woman's partial
escape from the constraints of her family, home, and past.
There is a single symbol that encapsulates the majority of these notions throughout the entirety of
the book: the bird, the bird in the house, the bird "caught between the two layers of glass" that so
changes Vanessa's life. Birds make too frequent and deliberate an appearance throughout the
collection of short stories to be mere haphazard additions to the background; instead, they, along
with the images and concepts associated with them, serve to alert the aware reader to what Margaret
Laurence, through older–Vanessa, through child–Vanessa, is trying to tell us. The birds, and their
associated images, are central and representative of the novel as a whole.
There are encounters with several birds throughout the majority of the stories: there is, of course, the
sparrow that predicts Ewen MacLeod's death; there is Grandmother Connor's perpetually silent
canary, Birdy; there are the hauntingly–voiced loons in the appropriately named story 'The Loons'.
They make subtler appearances as well: Grandmother MacLeod's hair is once described as 'white–
feathered wings in [a] snare'2; there is the blue Chinese carpet 'with its birds in eternal motionless
flight'(p. 47); the ladybird that climbs, falls, and climbs again, despite its ability to fly.

My Grandmother
I was born on July 2nd, 1997 to Mandy Dollich and Terry Reno. My mom grew up with very
religious grandparents and not so religious parents. My grandma, her mother, and my grandpa, her
father, we hippies and the "cool" parents. The liked to throw parties and to have fun especially my
grandfather. He told me that one time he got so drunk that he had to have my mom, who at the time
was only eleven, drive him home. My Great Grandmother, though, was extremely religious and she
took my mom 's church every Sunday morning for the service as well as for the night services. She
also got my mom involved in the youth group and in the choir. So my mom, despite her
rambunctious parents, grew up to be a Christian. My father and his side of the family consider
themselves to be Christians as well. They, however, are not as hardcore as most people say they
should be. They don 't go to church often or pray before meals. They didn 't feel like they had to put
on a big show to prove that they believe in God. My mother never married my father and a few
years after I was born she started dating Dennis Dollich who is now my stepfather. His family,
especially his mother, are what people would call "holy rollers". they are the type of family that goes
to church every Sunday and prays before every meal. They are very much the type of people that
will talk about got to anyone who will listen.

Subject: Grandparent's Visitation
MEMORANDUM
Based on the limited facts, the Johnson Superior Court should, at the least, modify the Agreed Entry
between the parties that, among other things, granted Catherine McHugh (hereinafter the
"grandmother") visitation of the minor child Christopher A. Cronin (hereinafter the "child"). There
is an issue as to whether the grandmother is entitled to visitation rights to the minor child and
whether the bad relationship between the Alice Cronin (hereinafter the "mother") and grandmother
is a consideration in determining the child's best interest.

Id. at 67. The Court stated that the statute allowed the judge to "disregard and overturn a fit custodial
parent concerning visitation whenever a third party affected by the decision files a visitation
petition, based solely on the judge's determination of the child's best interests". Id.
The Court, which characterized the case as involving nothing more than a simple disagreement
between [the trial court] and the mother concerning the child's best interest, held that the visitation
order was an unconstitutional infringement on the mother's fundamental right to make decisions
concerning the care, custody, and control of her children, and the courts failure to accord the
mother's determination any material weight. The court relied on three factors in reaching its holding.
First, there is a presumption that fit parents act in the best interest of their children, and the
grandparents did not allege and the court did not find that the mother was an unfit parent. Id. at 68.
If a parent is fit, there is normally no reason for the state to inject itself into the private realm of the
family to further question the ability of the parent to make the best decisions concerning the rearing
of that parent's children. Id. (quoting Reno v. Flores, 507 U.S. 292, 304 (1993)). The second factor
surrounded the decisional framework used by the Washington state court in reaching its

My Purpose Of The World Is Always Changing And So Are People
My Purpose
The world is always changing and so are people. People today never see how they evolve physically,
spiritually and educationally. The never question their purpose of living or do they? For many years
I have been puzzled to what my purpose in life is. People need to know what their purpose in life is
to continue living. Growing up in the south during my time was not so bad, but listening to my
parents and grandparents I believe it was pretty rough. This is where my educational phase of life
begins to form my purpose. My parents named me Melody and of course my name means a
sequence of notes that are put together to form a beautiful sound. My grandparents firmly believed
that music can be a positive change for people. In history James Brown created a song called "I am
black and I am proud. Naturally the song convinced some people to be proud of their race. I thought
as a teenager I could sing a song and even be a star one day. I perform in front of friends and family
until my first talent show gave me a reality check. I did ok but I was not good enough to win, so I
left that talent alone. I only song in church.
This is where my spiritual phase continued to direct my destination of knowing my purpose. I was
raised in the A.M.E foundation and still to this day I go to the same church. My grandmother and
mother both were on the choir. I joined the choir after I turned sixteen. I was also raised to have a
strong relationship with the lord and I do. Every person may

Challenges And Choices That We Make Us Grow As A Person
Obstacles in life are really challenges and choices that we make, placed there to help us grow as a
person. The obstacles, and how you deal with them, help to mold and shape character, then go on to
help others with their obstacles. I have faced some difficult struggles, which have portrayed clearly
that although sometimes one may feel alone, Hashem is always with you throughout every obstacle
you may tackle. These challenges are what make us stronger in the bitachon and emunah in Hashem.
When we attack an obstacle, we're prepared for other challenges that come our way in the future.

What was the person's reaction to the trauma? Jewel's reaction to the trauma was self–injury by way
of cutting herself on her arms and legs. Also, she had tried to commit suicide several times. She felt
as if these things can't be really happening.
What kind of support did she receive? From whom? Jewel received the support of her paternal
grandparents. The paternal grandparents were separated. During the early years, her grandfather
took care of her until her mother got situated in her life. The grandmother, who worked as a nurse,
supported her with a place to stay for her and her child. This lady from the girl's home named Annie
helped Jewel get acquainted with learning how to take care of herself. Eventually, Jewel received
the support of the State–Department of Human Services (DHS). They ended up emancipating her at
age 16 and put her up in her own apartment with benefits for her and her baby.
How did that impact the interviewee? How did she cope with that? Jewel felt that she had had a very
hard life with constantly struggling to keep herself safe. She didn't trust people very well. She coped
the best way she knew how, by continuing to self–injure herself by cutting her arms and legs, self–
medicated with alcohol, and smoked cigarettes non–stop. This led to her trying to find love in all the
wrong places; she started to follow the pattern of being in abusive relationships.

The Book 's Name Is `` Smoke Gets On Your Eyes ' By...
Reading Project The book's name is "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." by Caitlin Doughty. It is about
author 's work experience in the crematory, and the awareness and cognition of death. Caitlin
mentioned that she works in a crematorium because she wanted to overcome the fear of death.
Because when she was eight years old at Windward Mall, she saw a little girl climb up to where the
escalator met the second–story railing, then she tipped over the edge and fell thirty feet, landing
face–first on a laminate counter with a sickening thud (Caitlin 29). So, she lost control of death.
Maybe people fear of death because they experience some frightening things, no matter in real life
or virtual. In addition, Cicirelli said, "The meanings of death and life are interdependent. Life gains
its meaning from the fact of death. How, when, where, and why one anticipates dying influences the
meaning of the life that one has. Such a view implies changing individuals over time, and
consequently a life–span perspective on development of personal death meanings and related death
fears. One would expect the individual to develop different personal meanings and death fears over
the course of life from early childhood to adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and old
age"( Cicirelli 715). When I was seven years old, I fear of death because the dead body and the

A Spring Morning at Grandma’s Antique Shop Essay
The sun catches on the many colors of transparent glass: Forest green, cobalt blue, peachy pink, and
amber yellow forms a surrealistic prism around the room. In the swirling colors, Victorian dolls
dance. This is the image that comes to mind when I think of a spring morning at Grandma's Antique
Shop.
Gravel crunches as I walk toward the old gray house. Above the steps is a baby blue sign that reads
"Todd's Treasures," a hoe and rake form a pyramid over the sign. The steps are wooden and give
gently with each quick step I take. The sleigh bells on the door jingles as I open it calling, "Hello
Grandma." My voice echoes and Grandma says hello from wherever she is, usually the desk.

In the window behind the desk are things that are not for sell; these are the most treasured of "Todd's
Treasures," and any family members who visit are sure to study each item. A poster that once hung
in the Post Office, where Grandma's Grandmother worked, proclaims "Davis Auction Bulletin." In a
small frame is a dirty red, white, and blue ribbon on it is "July 4,1912 Veteran 1861–65." This
ribbon was awarded to my Great Great Great Grandfather, a confederate veteran on the fourth of
July in 1912. A yellowed newspaper clipping states "Game Warden wounded in gun battle." A black
and white photograph of an old black couple is sitting in the windowsill, and a large black and white
picture of a family reunion sits hangs on the wall.
Near the desk are two chairs, where you can sit and talk to Grandma. Down the middle of the room
are three wash stands. On the back one, is a gold Candelabra with angels who hold crystals. Jewelry,
pocket watches, arrowheads, old coins, confederate bills, and a tin top are in the display case. On top
of it is a tin toy train. It is painted yellow, green, blue and red. Behind the display case, are boards
where necklaces and earrings hang.
Most of the shelves in this room contain glass items. There are milk white pieces throughout the

What Good Can Might Come From Suffering?
What good can possibly come from suffering? Although a long, nameless burden on numerous lives,
suffering walks right along side with us to redeem the long road of darkness it causes to shedding
some light on the walkway. Sometimes the act of an individual's sufferings can be another person's
redemption or salvation. Better said, in A Lesson Before Dying, Jefferson, a twenty–one year black
male, is condemned to the electric chair after being innocently involved in an armed robbery.
Although the imaginable suffering of Jefferson can already be seen, his lawyer calls him a hog in
front of the Judge to show his incapability of committing the crime. In his Aunt's perspective,
Jefferson being executed as a hog and not a man will send him anywhere besides Heaven without
any sort of self–worth or dignity. Dreaming and praying of this redemption, Grant Higgens, a local
school teacher, has to unwillingly help Jefferson redeem his suffering of being a hog, and move him
along to a better place. With most of his time spent being trapped within a jail cell, Jefferson has a
long journey of suffering ahead, but the redemption is more than just death amongst in individual,
but salvation for a whole. From the transition of a hog to a man, Jefferson suffers a long road of
injustice and inequality before every enduring that particular outcome. Through the very criticized
society they're faced with, Grant views the racially diverse system as white people maintaining most

flowers, the trees, the birds, the clouds – even those we love. Because we see things so often, we see
them less and less." – Joseph B. Wirthlin (American businessman) The saying "Don't take anything
for granted" has changed my world completely. This drastic change took place on December 3,
2015. This was one of the most atrocious days I have ever experienced. On December 3, 2015, I lost
one of the most important figures in my entire life, and I feel like I took her for granted. I had just
finished my basketball practice. I was feeling ecstatic because I was making baskets left and right
like Kobe Bryant. My coach even told me that he has never seen me play like that before. Then I
strutted outside and found my father parked outside the school in his large, brown pick–up truck. I
hopped inside and turned my seat heater to high because it was frigid, winter weather outside. My
dad made some casual small talk, then he gave me the news. He stated in a low, dull voice, "Hey
Jack, grandma past away today." The car ride home seemed like it was ten hours long, even though I
lived right around the corner. As soon as we got home, I ran straight up to my room. I couldn't
believe what I was just told. I laid flat out on my bed, arms and legs spread out, staring at the
ceiling. I had no

A Worn Path: Phoenix Jackson a Very Old Woman Essay
Heroes are born everyday. But not all of them have to be able to fly around the world or stop a bullet
with their teeth. They don't have to be like superman and wonder woman. There are many hereos in
the world, you just have to know where to look for them. They are just ordinary people a lot of the
time. Many of them can be parents and grandparents. It all depends on what the person does to be
considered a hero, such as a grandparent that would walk about 50 miles to get medicine for their
sick grandson. That is what Phoenix Jackson did for her grandson in the short story, "A Worn Path".
Phoenix Jackson is a very old woman who lives out in the backcountry of Mississippi with her sick
grandson. She takes care of him because she is his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the way to getting her grandson's medicine she has to deal with a lot of harsh conditions to get to
the big city. She has to go through marshes and thorn bushes. "Swampy part where the moss hung as
lace from every limb." "Thorns, you doing your appointed work. Never want to let anyone pass, no
sir ". Phoenix has endured going through thorns and swampy places so that she can get the
medication for her grandson. She never gives up, no matter how tough things get. She is determined
to get to the city as soon as she can so that she can get back to see her grandson. Phoenix also
forgets her purpose for the mission in which she goes every now and then. But soon after she
remembers and keeps on going.
Phoenix lives with her grandson who she takes care of. She has to walk all the way from her small
home in the woods to the big city so that she can get medication for her grandson, who has a
problem with his throat. But on the way she runs into harsh conditions. These conditions do not set
her off her course or slow her down. Phoenix is a hero in her own way. She takes care of her sick
grandson, and she walks all the way to the big city so that the medicine that her grandson needs
would be free. Good literature is as this short story is. It shows the real world and not of the worlds
where super heroes fly around the world 20 times in 10 seconds. Real life heroes aren't like those in
comic books. They are everyday people that do things like you

What I Learned About Magic
I used to not believed in mythical creatures, magic, or spirits, I never liked the movies or books with
fairies, curses, or evil. I always thought that it was nonsense that only 5 year olds believed in. For
me, magic was a silly form of entertainment that made you gape with fake amazement at a carnival
or magic show. Maybe it was the fact that I refused to believe that forced me into this mess in the
first place, or maybe it was just destined to happen. But either way, I learned my lesson the hard
way. It all began on my summer vacation to see my grandparents in Egypt when I was 13. As I got
off the airplane, with my small blue suitcase in one hand and my computer bag in the other, I saw
my grandparents in the distance and began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My grandfather followed behind with my suitcase. The whole car ride grandmother chattered on and
on about all of the great places we could go see, including a newly discovered pyramid and sphinx.
After we pulled up to the small square house that my grandparents were renting, I headed up stairs
to my room in the attic. I put my suitcase and computer bag on the floor and plopped into an old
bean bag chair in the corner of the room. As I looked around the room, still crowded with unpacked
boxes I saw an old box in the corner that seemed to glow with an eerie light. I heaved myself up off
of the bean bag chair and opened the box. Inside were 2 orbs, 1 was a bright gold while the other
was a metalic blue color. Carefully, I picked up both orb began to walk towards my bed, but on my
way I tripped over my suit case and face planted on the floor. The orbs in my hands shattered. As I
picked myself and began to collect the broken pieces of glass, I realized the glass was moving. The
glass seemed to be melting forming 2 distinct shapes. In a few minutes 2 human figures had formed,
one with golden hair and the other with metalic blue eyes. The people looked to be teenagers like
me. The kid with metalic blue eyes took 1 glance at me, then at the girl next to her and took off. She
jumped through the small window in the corner and disappeared through the busy streets. The other
girl, with golden hair, chased

Case Analysis : ' My Daughter ' Essay
I would like to give you some insight regarding my custody case Elaine Sinclair Perry vs Officer
Peter Perry (estranged husband). This case has been ongoing for over four (4) years and I am eager
for this case to come to an amicable solution. My daughter is six (6) years old and her father Officer
Peter Perry continues to fight for weekend visitation. Officer Perry is inconsistent with visitation
and child support payment. Whenever he comes to pick up our daughter, Officer Perry doesn 't give
any advance notice. He texts the night before and then show up the next morning to pick up our
daughter. He doesn 't give detailed information as to where our daughter is being dropped off or the
address and telephone number of where she is dropped off. Officer Perry also wants our daughter to
stay over the weekend through Monday. The environment where Officer Perry resides is not livable
for anyone because it lacks basic survival needs such as water. The home environment is unhygienic
and unsafe for our daughter to spend weekends. I lived at the house and there was no running water.
Also, no light is in the home. A home visit needs to be conducted in order to investigate if there is
food, light and water. It is unrealistic for our daughter to stay overnight Saturday through Monday.
Officer Perry resides in Stony Hill, Kingston and our daughter resides in Spanish Town, St.
Catherine. Our daughter education will be negatively affected by being dropped off on a Monday.

The Day My Great Grand Mother
I sit in the couch while watching TV. Today 's the day my great grand mother is going to draw an
unlucky person 's name in whose house there will be about 20 people or so coming in for
christmas.Oh lord, how I wish my mom 's name won 't pop up as this decade 's host.
This family tradition... It 's not like I 'm against it but it actually is kind of strange.Every ten

of faded blue jeans. His brown hair is messy,as always and he 's carrying a ball in his hand.
"Where are you going with that, young man?" I ask him, imitating mom in her british accent.
He simply looks at me,with an innocent stare, before saying "To the backyard."
"Have you finished the book I gave you?"
"Yes."
"Alright, go on then." I say beckoning him to the backyard door.Mom had given me the chore to
make him read at least a short book a week. She had asked me to do this as I 'm usually better at
picking books for him than she is.I remember that every time she tried to choose a book for him he
always said that he did not like it,probably because she chose not very "appealing" ones for Owen 's
age like Harry Potter and The wizard of Oz.

Essay about The Foundation of My Identity
Ronald Takaki, a frequent writer of cultural backgrounds, reminds us that, "America does not belong
to one race or one group, the people in this study remind us, and Americans have been constantly
redefining their national identity from the moment of first contact on the Virginia shore. By sharing
their stories they invite us to see ourselves in a different mirror." Out of my fellow composition
students, at State University, I am the only one whose great great grandparents came over to the
USA. Out of twenty students, including myself, I found a surprising number of five parents, eight
grandparents, and six great grandparents who immigrated to this wonderful country that we call

I know that my great grandparents and my grandparents spent most of their lives in the wide–open
country (Croswell, MI area). After asking a few family members I found that my grandma on my
mom's side is nearly all German, while my grandpa was nearly all polish. Their grandparents came
over here and settled in downtown Detroit. Later my grandparents built their own house in Utica,
MI. That is were my mom grew up and lived until my dad and mom built their first house in
Millington, MI over 27 years ago. Both of my grandpas were automotive shop workers almost all of
their life, which is the same as most of their kids, especially on my dad's side. The funny thing is
that the more generations that work at the factories, the higher the level and the more income that
that person has.. Rob Blauner reminds us in 'Talking Past Each Other' that, "Members of an ethnic
group hold a set of common memories that make them feel that their customs, culture, and outlook
are distinctive." My generation is the first to attend college to become whatever they want, myself
I'm attending college to become a mechanical engineer and will probably coincide with other
shopworkers just as my family does–did.
Millington is a very boring town, but our house had a rather nice setting. I spent my first 18 years in
the second house that they built, also in Millington, Mi. It was an enormous 5–bedroom 3700 sq. ft

The Music Of The 1940 ' S
The music of the 1940's was the Big Band sound like Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington
and Benny Goodman. Popular singers were the Andrews Sisters, Kay Kaiser and many other famous
ones. There were crooner style singers, including Bing Crosby, whose smooth voice made him one
of the most popular singers. There was Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett, Pat Boone, Nat
King Cole, Kate Smith and Perry Como. All of these very popular singers led the hit parade. They
sang the songs that went with the mood of the country in the early 50s. Many of these crooners
became the idols of the decade's later rock and roll stars, who used their influence to create a unique
sound.

Radio was the lifeline for Americans in the 1940's, providing news, music and entertainment, much
like television today. Programming included soap operas, quiz shows, children's hours, mystery
stories, drama and sports. Kate Smith and Arthur Godfrey were popular radio hosts. The government
relied heavily on radio for propaganda. Like the movies, radio faded in popularity as television
became prominent. Many of the most popular radio shows continued on in television, including Red
Skelton, Abbott and Costello, Jack Benny, Bob Hope and Truth or Consequences.
Although my grandmother was a young child during this time, she still remembers the music very
vividly, but what she remembers most was her mother always singing along with the radio and
dancing around the house as she performed her household chores. Bing Crosby also was a whistler
and her mother could also whistle any tune just as good as he did. She passed this happiness and
love for music on to my grandmother. As a matter of fact, both of my grandmother's grandmothers
passed on that love of music to her as well.
It didn't stop there. Along came the 1950's. This is the decade that gave birth to Rock n Roll. There
is no one type of popular '50s music. During the decade, soloists and crooners shared the stage with
rock and roll, country and western, bluegrass, folk, Cajun and creole music. It's impossible to pin
'50s music to any one style.

Actually, my hair was barely there, I was pretty much a bald baby. I was ever so loved by my

loved me unconditionally. I had two great grandparents, four grandparents, five aunts, five uncles,

She always gave the best encouragement and feedback after a bad game, and always made us feel
like we mattered to the team and told us to work harder to get better. She believed in us so much and
gave us the mindset to never give up. Grandma Sue had an extreme amount of knowledge when it

Dialects have remained prevalent in Italy because its mountainous terrain has helped isolate one
region from another. My father spoke the standard Italian outside the home and the regional dialect
at home. Unfortunately, my dialect leaves a lot to be desired, but I can certainly understand and
follow a conversation well. Italians use gestures more abundantly and imaginatively than other
people during conversations, especially in the south. I would often tease my father and tell him "You
talk without saying a word" Americans, however are more reserved in using hand gestures.
Leisure time is very important to Italians. For recreation Italians enjoy going to the beach
countryside, movies, opera, or sporting events. Soccer is by far the most popular sport and teams
wear the colors of their home city's flag – a way of expressing regional loyalty.
Italians love to eat and are passionate about their food. Italian food is also popular outside of Italy.
Pasta and pizza in particular, have become popular around the world. Rather than a national cuisine,
Italian food is regional. People prefer to use ingredients found in their particular region, and every
region has developed its own culinary specialties. While dishes may vary from region to region, and
sometimes from family to family within the same region, there are many dishes that are common
throughout Italy. Italians traditionally eat their main meal at midday. They

My Dad
"it's hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember." It all started out with my grandpa.
My grandpa was a funny guy to be around. He always made you smile. He was always smiling and
cheerful too. That 's what made your day by seeing his smile. His smile was a ray of sunshine. You
never saw him hurt till the day he found out that something was wrong with him. Then after that day
you have never seen him smile. Life 's too short to take for granted. I realized that after I lost my

to go up to Indianapolis. So every week he went up to the hospital in Indy. The doctor decided that
they would do surgery on him to get the tumors out or shrink them. The shrinking of the tumors
worked for a little but then they grew back even bigger. Then that 's when everything went downhill
from there. He stopped eating and started losing a bunch of weight. He didn 't even want to get out
of the bed. My grandma would bring food into the room for him and he wouldn't ever eat it. Seeing
my grandpa like this was hard. All I wanted to do was cry because I couldn't stay the night till he got
better. It didn 't seem that he was getting better soon. Every Night I prayed for him, hoping that God
would heal him. The tumors just keep getting bigger. Finally my dad stepped in and yelled at my
grandpa and said "you need to eat Dad,so you can get better." That didn 't work so they had to move
him to the hospital. Soon enough when they put him in the hospital, he got a lot worse. So I had to

My First Love
He was my first love. His high cheekbones and dark complexion accentuated his piercing blue eyes,

each other, our apartment buildings were only separated by the Elementary School I attended and a

it was quite a feat for a tiny eight–year–old to reach him, however, it was always well–worth it. I

Issue:
Whether section 26.10.160 of the Revised Code of Washington unconstitutionally interferes with a
parent's fundamental right to raise his or her children as he or she sees fit?
Rule:
Yes, the statute does unconstitutionally interfere with a parent's right to make child–rearing

Analysis:
The Court reasoned that the Washington statute violated parents' rights under the Fourteenth

Conclusion:
The judgment is affirmed.

The Mirror At The Tears Staining My Face
I looked in the mirror at the tears staining my face. I saw someone who wasn 't me, and all I saw
were flaws. I told myself that I had to be different and better in many ways. In that moment I
realized that being someone I 'm not is what brought me here. I am who I am and no one can stop
that.
January 11, 2003. That 's the day I was born. My family immediately loved me, (as most families
do.) but they barely had any time to give me attention because of their busy work and travel
schedules. They weren 't like many other parents however because they would do anything for me,
and the reason they worked so hard was for our family to live a better life.
One amazing thing came out of my parents working was that I got to spend tons of time with my
grandparents. I have a bond with them that I don 't believe anyone else could have with their
grandparents. They would bring me to so many places like to museums and to the botanic gardens,
and we would have a blast.
I remember a time when I was only three, and they had picked me up from drama class. I had
assigned them characters and we went to my house and put on a big show. That 's when I realized
how much I liked acting and writing. We would do new shows every day together. When I came to
their house we would choose from a list of games to play and I got to be creative.

The Health Philosophy Interview Paper
Health Philosophy Interview Paper My paternal grandmother, Lucille, has many chronic conditions,
yet we decided to focus on her diabetes for the majority of questions concerning her health and
wellness. When asked, Lucille could not remember when she was first diagnosed with diabetes, but
does remember when she "switched from taking pills to taking insulin." She began taking insulin the
spring of 2009 after her doctor decided it was time to switch. She has had two incidences where her
blood sugar was so low that she could not even call out for help. Both times were in the night and
thankfully at that time her husband (my grandfather) found her and was able to get the necessary
help. After these incidences, she switched to taking her insulin in the morning instead of before bed.
When asked how her diabetes affects her health, Lucille responded saying it significantly affects her
eating habits. She has to watch what she eats and keep track of her sodium because of her diabetes
and other health conditions. Every night before bed, she eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich so
her blood sugar will "last through the night." When prompted about her participation in physical
activity, she referred to her outings into the community, such as her weekly trips to the grocery store.
She admitted that she sometimes needs to eat a small candy bar while shopping because she can tell
she is "getting low" (on her blood sugar). She admits that even going to the doctor's office for

"Noooo." Cody responded.
"I'm gonna do it."
"Noooooo."
"Openin the window."
"Nooo–AHHH!"
The room became bright as the window gleamed off the trash and whatever else was on the small
floor.
"It's trash day, hurry up and pick up anything that could be recyclable."
"I'll get it later."
"Get it now, we need to hurry up before the fallout gets full. Just leave it outside your door, I'll get it

"Okay." "Get dressed if you want to come with me."
"Fine, just get out of my room."
Cody was normally a very nice and energetic, except for in the mourning. Cody and Damien looked

didn't want to go into her room. He knocked on the door. It opened to find his happy and energetic
cousin. Angie had always been a morning person. Angie had pale skin, blonde messy hair, and
brown eyes. She was very tall and slim. She greeted him with her deep

The Culture Of The Mexican Culture
How many different types of cultures are there? Here's the answer there are many cultures. My story
starts like this; both of my parents are from Guadalajara well most of my family is from that part of
México. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is
unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors'
traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen
to, what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being
Mexican my parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you're
supposed to have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young
women. Many people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church
mass. Since I am catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. Social behaviors
impact your life in many ways. You have roles and rules in your cultures. When you're with your
friends you act a different way. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and
rules and your behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. Mother is
supposed to stay home and Father is supposed to work to help his family. Women are not supposed
to do yard work their job is inside. That has changed with the year's most

Summary : ' The Curtain Curtains '
Cubicle Curtains When I was born, I saw many things: my parents, my family, doctors, and the
hospital room I was in. I certainly don't recall seeing any of these things, but I am sure I did. My
parents told me I never cried when I was born, which alarmed the doctors, but I like to think it's
because I'm tough. I imagine myself brand new in the world, but not scared because it all looked so
nice. I could smell bleach and soap and hear the soft voices of people who already unconditionally
loved me. I was unaware of what any of this stuff was, but was aware something big and important
just happened. I was aware that my existence was in that space, with those people, at that time; with
those hospital curtains in front of the door, that were shadowing me from the rest of the world. Fast
forward three years. "That is one homely baby," My grandma says. We were watching a parade on
T.V. "What does that mean?" I asked. I learned what the word meant. Fear instantly struck me to my
bones. "When will we go to the hospital?" I immediately inquired. I was eager to see my new baby
brother, and very concerned he would be homely. "We can go now," she responded. Soon, we had
arrived in a small waiting room, on a scratchy couch. There was a tiny, little T.V. hanging in the
corner of the room with cartoons playing. I brought along a poppy–seed muffin. It was delicious,
and for the time being, settled my nerves. The room was bright with giant windows; the sun glared
at the television. It

My Grandparent 's House Is Not A Safe Haven
Every person is in need of a home. It is a place that feels natural and welcoming. It instills a sense of
belonging. A home doesn't have to be a specific dwelling, for it has many different definitions and
meanings for each individual. What is universal is the feelings one receives when they are in their
home. It is a place that protects them from the struggles and obstacles that life inevitably thrusts
onto people. It is a safe haven. For me this particular feeling is bestowed upon me every time I step
foot into my grandparent's house. My grandparent's house is my home and it will forever fill me
with the unconditional love, happiness and security that my family has given my entire life. My
heart is there.

We both drown our fish with Texas Pete every time we eat this flavorful meal. Scientists say smell is
the sense that is most associated sense with memory. Every time I smell fried catfish, I know it will
take me home.
Although food isn't the only treasure my home provides me. Home is bathing in the elegant marble
bathtub with its endless overflowing bubbles. This exquisite tub I named "Ol' Reliable." Ol' Reliable
is an XL power jet tub, equipped with gold colored faucet and golden feet. It is made out of a silky
marble finish that was fit for royalty. Naturally I thought it was the types of bathtubs in Buckingham
Palace and so I felt like the queen herself when I used it. It even had a tempur–pedic pillow for your
head, which in the eyes of an eight–year–old is the most innovative invention ever seen. Along the
edges of the bathtub is shelving for the soaps and other bathing needs. "Bomba" has an infinite
amount of bath beads, shampoos, loofahs and even exotic tools such as foot scrubbers with
matching foot soap. Of course as a child I'd apply basically everything on my head and throw it into
the bathtub. Once I had every bath accessory at my disposal and a silky pair of my grandmother's
pajamas to put on after, I would be finally ready to add the bubbles. I remember every time when
my grandmother was filling up Ol' Reliable, she'd say, "Only put in two squirts of bubble bath,
remember what happened last time..." Well every time I

Analysis Of The Book ' Rice For Thanksgiving '
Three people from three different backgrounds all with their own unique stories. It is amazing how
diverse the world can be. Despite being so different these three people are all vastly similar in the
methods they use to sway an audience. Daniel, the writer of The Necessity believes that parades are
essential. This very simple display of culture allows normal everyday people the chance to escape
from their deeply depressing lives and show a bit of pride. Fong, the writer of Rice for Thanksgiving
has a particularly interesting reflection on his family history. Despite the troubles they went through
due to discrimination he still believes in the melting pot that is America. Chelsey the writer of
Taking the Bus talks about how her experiences with new and strange people on the bus have
changed her outlook on life. The interactions with these people give her some perspective on how
her life fits in in the grand scheme of things. All of these stories are different yet they all do one very
similar thing. They use the human capacity for sympathy as a means of swaying the reader.
Daniel continuously uses gloomy and depressing tone to make the reader feel as if all light has been
sucked from the universe. He thinks "The world has enough degradation, humiliation, and
disappointment for everybody to try some" (Daniel). By describing a world in which not a single
shred of happiness still exists, a parade begins to seem like a glimmering light at the end of a long
tunnel. This world

A Young Mother Gives Birth to an Elderly Woman

  • 1. A Young Mother And A Healthy Baby On August 24, 2016, a young mother went into labor. About five hours later she gave birth to a baby girl. Well so she thought. The mother ended up going into cardiac rest after five minutes of giving birth. The doctors were puzzled. A young healthy mother and a healthy baby. The doctors heard the NICU nurses screaming so they took off. They all look around. From what was a healthy baby had turned into an 87–year–old female. The doctors looked stumbled. There was no father to be found. "What is everyone staring at me for?" the woman asked. "Ashley, go call the government" the head doctor whispered quietly to the head nurse. The nurse went and called the government while the other doctors and nurses try to contain the woman while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The quickly ran to the other half of the building. The lieutenant along with the Deputy Chief entered the building where she had run back into. "Ma'am, we are with the government and we need to speak to nurse Ashley from the NICU," the deputy chief said while showing his badge. "She'll be right with you!" the secretary said as she placed the call. As the nurse came down to speak with the deputy chief, the woman put her hair where her face was and gracefully exited the hospital. She was able to get past everyone. She decided her best bet was to call her grandmother and go stay with her. Her grandmother lived four states away. Her information on a card that was given to her by the secretary. So, the woman called her. "Hello?" another woman answered. "Hi, is this Christina's mother?" the woman asked. "May I ask who's calling?" the grand mother asked. "Your granddaughter. I don't know what my name is because my mom died five minutes after my birth," the woman replied. "My daughter is dead!" the grandmother asked now crying over her daughter's death. "Yes. She passed unfortunately. But the hospital said that you were my grandmother and I have no where to go. I have no dad and no mom," the woman said and the grandmother decided to cut her off. "Wait! How could you be my child's daughter? How are you speaking to me?" the grandmother asked. "Well funny story," the woman replied. As she told the grandmother the story, they ... • 3. My Life "I lay in Death's arms; writhing in feverish pain, my stomach drawn tight from hunger. I talked with the Great Spirit and asked him to take me, to release me from my torment, but he said it was not my time. He said that I must learn to see, not with my eyes, but with my heart, my spirit within. "He nourished my body with the blood of the bear, which gave me strength, then said, that because I was brave, I would live. I was to teach my people of his ways. The Great Spirit told me that when the yellow mocker called, and I lay in death's final arms, that I would again be able to see," he paused, looking into his fire. "Did I die?" asked Two Feathers thoughtfully. "I do not know, but I was dead in the darkness. For how long; I do not know. When I awoke, my sight was gone. They whispered of my eyes, saying the snow had taken my sight. I told them that Death, had taken my sight. That Death rode a pale horse and was chasing the bear, and when we smashed together, death caught me and tried to claim my spirit. "Running Horse and Tutolaka did not see the bear, or death. They say that I fall down. That I was ill and talking out of my head. That it had been two moons ago and they could not carry me and the deer, so they had stayed with me. For that, I know they were my friends. "Why was I chosen? I do not know. Only, that I must tell everyone of the Great Spirit's ways, how he saved me from Death, and how we should care for one another. We should prepare for our days ahead, build ... • 5. An Expected Tragedy Occurred On My Life July 7th, 2012 an expected tragedy occurred. It's amazing how we take things for granted. We go throughout our day thinking everything is going to be fine with the plans we made, and don't think twice about how our plans can be taken away at any moment. I didn't think about it much, until I was faced with a wake–up call, a death of my grandmother. I don't think anybody really thinks about a misfortune until they are faced with one. Around 1ish on July 7th, 2012 we were told to come to the hospital because of an emergency with my grandma. My family and I rushed to get there. In my head I was wondering what was going on and what was going to happen to her. I was so nervous because it was so unexpected to me because the other day she was ... My family and I saw her on her death bed. She was laying down, still alive in her hospital dress with tubes coming from her body. She couldn't talk and she was so stiff. Her arms were bigger than they were supposed to be and they were very pale and a bit purple and blue. Her face was very puffy and pale too. I felt so speechless, gloomy, and sorry. Tears were coming down my face just seeing her like that. It seemed that they didn't stop coming down from my face. I pulled some tissues from the tissue box and whipped my tears. As I looked over I saw my mother, sister, brother, and dad were crying as well. Then, I overheard the adults saying they tried to give her a liver from a family member but none of theirs matched my grandmothers. So the doctors said they were going to wait for another patient to die so they can do the liver transplant because the patient had the type of liver my grandmother needed. Time flew by and more people were showing up to support her. When other people came in they started crying as soon as they saw how my grandmother looked. One of her friends went up to ... • 7. Analysis Of The Lock Of The Old Two Story House "I can't believe this is really going to be our new place..." Brielle admitted, as she turned the key in the lock of the old two story house. It was a bright sunny day in the middle of June in central Iowa, and the twin sisters, Brielle and Audrey, were getting their dream come true. Since they were little they had been dreaming of getting to live in their grandparent's house. The old two–story white house held so many memories. Today, it looked different than it had when they were young. The white paint was beginning to chip, and the blue shutters had faded from the royal blue they once were. The girls stood on the massive wrap–around porch looking up at the house. Growing up, this house had been like a second home to them. Brielle and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brielle turned the brass door handle and pushed open the old wooden door and went inside, followed by Audrey. Right away, they got to work cleaning. They were in the kitchen when their mom walked in the house to help. Their mom lived about ten minutes away, and the girls knew that she was more than willing to come help them get moved in. "Hey, I'm so glad you're here!" exclaimed Audrey. "Yeah, so am I, we still have a lot to do." agreed Brielle. "Alright girls, I'll finish the kitchen if you two want to move on to the bedrooms. Hopefully you'll be able to stay here tonight." instructed Mom. They left their mom in the kitchen, and went upstairs to the bedrooms. They started with what had been the guest bedrooms, there were three of them, and saved their grandmother 's room for last. A few hours later, they were onto their grandmother 's room. Their mother was still working on the downstairs. "Well, here we are..." Audrey sighed, looking around the room. "This room looks the same as it did when Grandma lived here, it seems so wrong to move everything." Brielle said, feeling guilty. The room 's maroon flowered wallpaper was still intact, and it was equipped with the same bedroom outfit their grandparents had purchased after their wedding. The bed still had the multicolored quilt their great grandmother had made as a wedding gift so many years before. "We have to do it though, it 's our house now, and we need the rooms. But then I remembered that my cousins were coming to my grandparent's green and white house this weekend. I loved spending time out on my grandparent's farm. There are sheep that are as fluffy as the clouds, grass and trees that sway with the wind and give off a fresh smell, and so many different barns with so much different equipment that I have never seen before. That's when I hopped out of bed and got ready faster than a rabbit can run. I put on my pink t–shirt with all of the Mickey Mouse characters with my old jeans that had rips on them. Then to complete my outfit, I put on my grey GAP sweatshirt that had the letters G–A–P filled out with the colors of navy blue and red. Next, I quickly through my hair up and into a pony tail and brushed my teeth and I was ready to go. I went upstairs by my dad and my sister, Ashley, and kept bothering my mom saying, "Let's go!" Then finally about twenty minutes later my mom came out to the living room and said, "Let's head out to grandmas and grandpas." I bolted down the stairs and put on my old, white, sneaker shoes. The ride there seemed to drag on and on for an eternity because I was so excited. Then finally we reached the last turn and I saw the house. Once we go there, I ran out of the car and into the house and was greeted by my cousins, Matthew and Josh and my Aunt Sue and my Uncle Mike. After getting all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Culture And Its Impact On Culture Culture is a combination of many aspects of life that have been passed down for generation. Customs, beliefs, values and behaviors that become more specified to specific groups that tend to mimic themselves within a group are the broad range themes that come up when one discusses culture. Culture can exist on many different planes simultaneously. Culture is subjective and the way in which specific cultures are defined changes constantly. Researchers Kroeber and Kluckhohn state that "Culture consists of patterns, explicit and implicit, of and for behavior acquired and transmitted by symbols, constituting the distinctive achievement of human groups, including their embodiments in artefacts; the essential core of culture consists of traditional (i.e. historically derived and selected) ideas and especially their attached values; culture systems may, on the one hand, be considered as products of action, on the other as conditioning elements of further action." (1952, p. 181) This description of culture largely aligns with generally accepted definitions of culture but briefly considers that culture can also be a product of action. I believe that culture is grounded in traditions of the past but suggest that it could not exist without the continued evolution of the key elements that define the concept. For the purpose of this paper I will describe culture as not only the experiences that came before but the enduring and modifiable traits that allow culture to be completely unique ... Cultural Essay Journey of an Ethnic Orphan: Cultural Essay Over the past 100 years my family has come from many places of origin Lebanon, Spain, Ireland, Russia, Germany and many others. over the past century there's been a breakdown and separation amongst the family and its traditions that we used to have. There's so much left to my imagination regarding my culture and ethnicity, but there is some that I am aware of from questioning people such as my mother, father, grandmother and other extended family members. Being an ethnic orphan is basically saying that whatever traditions and sense of culture we may have had in the past is very vague for the most part because of assimilation and geographical relocation. Most of my life I hang on to the beliefs and values that are taught in the Bible, something that molds my own values and traditions now as an adult. Importance of family. Growing up the importance of family was highly stressed. You must do anything for your family. Even if it meant doing something wrong. One of the things that my family has both held onto was the importance of family. The reason I believe that this was highly stressed is because of the breakdown and the separation of the family. Some families moved to California, Some stayed on the East Coast and some scattered in between. It was important to hold onto family because we were taught that family is all we have. When I was 11 ironically my mother and my father got a divorce. It devastated me, not only was my family torn apart but everything I had been taught about sacrificing for the good of the family was disregarded at their convenience. Throughout my years as a child and young adult I have held on to the values that I must still hold onto a strong sense of family. I wanted to do what so many other family members could not, maintain a lasting marriage. There are many reasons my mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Margaret Laurence's A Bird in the House Margaret Laurence's A Bird in the House Margaret Laurence's A Bird in the House differentiates itself from the four other novels that make up the 'Manawaka series' that has helped establish her as an icon of Canadian literature. It does not present a single story; instead, it is a compilation of eight well–crafted short stories (written between the years 1962 and 1970) that intertwine and combine into a single narrative, working as a whole without losing the essential independence of the parts. It tells – at least on a surface level – of the childhood of a young girl named Vanessa MacLeod , and of her trials and tribulations in the small Manitoban town of Manawaka. The narrative style of the stories is important, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most importantly, it is a story of captivity, of failed attempts at freedom, and of one woman's partial escape from the constraints of her family, home, and past. There is a single symbol that encapsulates the majority of these notions throughout the entirety of the book: the bird, the bird in the house, the bird "caught between the two layers of glass" that so changes Vanessa's life. Birds make too frequent and deliberate an appearance throughout the collection of short stories to be mere haphazard additions to the background; instead, they, along with the images and concepts associated with them, serve to alert the aware reader to what Margaret Laurence, through older–Vanessa, through child–Vanessa, is trying to tell us. The birds, and their associated images, are central and representative of the novel as a whole. There are encounters with several birds throughout the majority of the stories: there is, of course, the sparrow that predicts Ewen MacLeod's death; there is Grandmother Connor's perpetually silent canary, Birdy; there are the hauntingly–voiced loons in the appropriately named story 'The Loons'. They make subtler appearances as well: Grandmother MacLeod's hair is once described as 'white– feathered wings in [a] snare'2; there is the blue Chinese carpet 'with its birds in eternal motionless flight'(p. 47); the ladybird that climbs, falls, and climbs again, despite its ability to fly. My grandma, her mother, and my grandpa, her father, we hippies and the "cool" parents. The liked to throw parties and to have fun especially my grandfather. He told me that one time he got so drunk that he had to have my mom, who at the time was only eleven, drive him home. My Great Grandmother, though, was extremely religious and she took my mom 's church every Sunday morning for the service as well as for the night services. She also got my mom involved in the youth group and in the choir. So my mom, despite her rambunctious parents, grew up to be a Christian. My father and his side of the family consider themselves to be Christians as well. They, however, are not as hardcore as most people say they should be. They don 't go to church often or pray before meals. They didn 't feel like they had to put on a big show to prove that they believe in God. My mother never married my father and a few years after I was born she started dating Dennis Dollich who is now my stepfather. His family, especially his mother, are what people would call "holy rollers". they are the type of family that goes to church every Sunday and prays before every meal. The Court stated that the statute allowed the judge to "disregard and overturn a fit custodial parent concerning visitation whenever a third party affected by the decision files a visitation petition, based solely on the judge's determination of the child's best interests". Id. The Court, which characterized the case as involving nothing more than a simple disagreement between [the trial court] and the mother concerning the child's best interest, held that the visitation order was an unconstitutional infringement on the mother's fundamental right to make decisions concerning the care, custody, and control of her children, and the courts failure to accord the mother's determination any material weight. The court relied on three factors in reaching its holding. First, there is a presumption that fit parents act in the best interest of their children, and the grandparents did not allege and the court did not find that the mother was an unfit parent. People today never see how they evolve physically, spiritually and educationally. The never question their purpose of living or do they? For many years I have been puzzled to what my purpose in life is. People need to know what their purpose in life is to continue living. Growing up in the south during my time was not so bad, but listening to my parents and grandparents I believe it was pretty rough. This is where my educational phase of life begins to form my purpose. My parents named me Melody and of course my name means a sequence of notes that are put together to form a beautiful sound. My grandparents firmly believed that music can be a positive change for people. In history James Brown created a song called "I am black and I am proud. Naturally the song convinced some people to be proud of their race. I thought as a teenager I could sing a song and even be a star one day. I perform in front of friends and family until my first talent show gave me a reality check. I did ok but I was not good enough to win, so I left that talent alone. I only song in church. This is where my spiritual phase continued to direct my destination of knowing my purpose. I was raised in the A.M.E foundation and still to this day I go to the same church. It is about author 's work experience in the crematory, and the awareness and cognition of death. Caitlin mentioned that she works in a crematorium because she wanted to overcome the fear of death. Because when she was eight years old at Windward Mall, she saw a little girl climb up to where the escalator met the second–story railing, then she tipped over the edge and fell thirty feet, landing face–first on a laminate counter with a sickening thud (Caitlin 29). So, she lost control of death. Maybe people fear of death because they experience some frightening things, no matter in real life or virtual. In addition, Cicirelli said, "The meanings of death and life are interdependent. Life gains its meaning from the fact of death. How, when, where, and why one anticipates dying influences the meaning of the life that one has. Such a view implies changing individuals over time, and consequently a life–span perspective on development of personal death meanings and related death fears. One would expect the individual to develop different personal meanings and death fears over the course of life from early childhood to adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and old age"( Cicirelli 715). Although a long, nameless burden on numerous lives, suffering walks right along side with us to redeem the long road of darkness it causes to shedding some light on the walkway. Sometimes the act of an individual's sufferings can be another person's redemption or salvation. Better said, in A Lesson Before Dying, Jefferson, a twenty–one year black male, is condemned to the electric chair after being innocently involved in an armed robbery. Although the imaginable suffering of Jefferson can already be seen, his lawyer calls him a hog in front of the Judge to show his incapability of committing the crime. Dreaming and praying of this redemption, Grant Higgens, a local school teacher, has to unwillingly help Jefferson redeem his suffering of being a hog, and move him along to a better place. Essay about The Foundation of My Identity Ronald Takaki, a frequent writer of cultural backgrounds, reminds us that, "America does not belong to one race or one group, the people in this study remind us, and Americans have been constantly redefining their national identity from the moment of first contact on the Virginia shore. By sharing their stories they invite us to see ourselves in a different mirror." Out of my fellow composition students, at State University, I am the only one whose great great grandparents came over to the USA. Out of twenty students, including myself, I found a surprising number of five parents, eight grandparents, and six great grandparents who immigrated to this wonderful country that we call America. I know that my great grandparents and my grandparents spent most of their lives in the wide–open country (Croswell, MI area). After asking a few family members I found that my grandma on my mom's side is nearly all German, while my grandpa was nearly all polish. Their grandparents came over here and settled in downtown Detroit. Later my grandparents built their own house in Utica, MI. That is were my mom grew up and lived until my dad and mom built their first house in Millington, MI over 27 years ago. Both of my grandpas were automotive shop workers almost all of their life, which is the same as most of their kids, especially on my dad's side. The funny thing is that the more generations that work at the factories, the higher the level and the more income that that person has.. Rob Blauner reminds us in 'Talking Past Each Other' that, "Members of an ethnic group hold a set of common memories that make them feel that their customs, culture, and outlook are distinctive." My generation is the first to attend college to become whatever they want, myself I'm attending college to become a mechanical engineer and will probably coincide with other shopworkers just as my family does–did. Millington is a very boring town, but our house had a rather nice setting. I spent my first 18 years in the second house that they built, also in Millington, Mi. • 47. The Music Of The 1940 ' S The music of the 1940's was the Big Band sound like Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. Popular singers were the Andrews Sisters, Kay Kaiser and many other famous ones. There were crooner style singers, including Bing Crosby, whose smooth voice made him one of the most popular singers. There was Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett, Pat Boone, Nat King Cole, Kate Smith and Perry Como. All of these very popular singers led the hit parade. They sang the songs that went with the mood of the country in the early 50s. Many of these crooners became the idols of the decade's later rock and roll stars, who used their influence to create a unique sound. Nat King Cole was not only one of the first African ... Programming included soap operas, quiz shows, children's hours, mystery stories, drama and sports. Kate Smith and Arthur Godfrey were popular radio hosts. Many of the most popular radio shows continued on in television, including Red Skelton, Abbott and Costello, Jack Benny, Bob Hope and Truth or Consequences. Although my grandmother was a young child during this time, she still remembers the music very vividly, but what she remembers most was her mother always singing along with the radio and dancing around the house as she performed her household chores. Bing Crosby also was a whistler and her mother could also whistle any tune just as good as he did. She passed this happiness and love for music on to my grandmother. As a matter of fact, both of my grandmother's grandmothers passed on that love of music to her as well. It didn't stop there. Along came the 1950's. This is the decade that gave birth to Rock n Roll. When grandmother Akosua was younger, she traveled around the world, serving her famous cuisine to workers in isolated places. There were any cars during those day so she walked by foot crossing boarder to boarder entering into other lands. Dialects have remained prevalent in Italy because its mountainous terrain has helped isolate one region from another. My father spoke the standard Italian outside the home and the regional dialect at home. Unfortunately, my dialect leaves a lot to be desired, but I can certainly understand and follow a conversation well. Italians use gestures more abundantly and imaginatively than other people during conversations, especially in the south. I would often tease my father and tell him "You talk without saying a word" Americans, however are more reserved in using hand gestures. Leisure time is very important to Italians. For recreation Italians enjoy going to the beach countryside, movies, opera, or sporting events. Soccer is by far the most popular sport and teams wear the colors of their home city's flag – a way of expressing regional loyalty. Italians love to eat and are passionate about their food. Italian food is also popular outside of Italy. Pasta and pizza in particular, have become popular around the world. Rather than a national cuisine, Italian food is regional. People prefer to use ingredients found in their particular region, and every region has developed its own culinary specialties. They radiated the compassion, kindness, and gentleness he was teeming with. His hands were dry and rough, revealing the years of strenuous work he endured, nevertheless they were my asylum, the one and only place I felt at home. I was lucky enough to call this man Dedo, which, in Serbo–Croatian, means Grandpa. Living across from each other, our apartment buildings were only separated by the Elementary School I attended and a busy street. Standing on my balcony, observing the city on an average August day in Mostar, I spotted him on his balcony. He waived his hands and that was my cue to head over. Wasting no time, I threw on a pair of sandals, speeding out the door. Passing by my bright yellow school, I was instantly grateful it was the summer and I would have uninterrupted, unlimited Dedo time. The Health Philosophy Interview Paper Health Philosophy Interview Paper My paternal grandmother, Lucille, has many chronic conditions, yet we decided to focus on her diabetes for the majority of questions concerning her health and wellness. When asked, Lucille could not remember when she was first diagnosed with diabetes, but does remember when she "switched from taking pills to taking insulin." She began taking insulin the spring of 2009 after her doctor decided it was time to switch. She has had two incidences where her blood sugar was so low that she could not even call out for help. Both times were in the night and thankfully at that time her husband (my grandfather) found her and was able to get the necessary help. After these incidences, she switched to taking her insulin in the morning instead of before bed. When asked how her diabetes affects her health, Lucille responded saying it significantly affects her eating habits. She has to watch what she eats and keep track of her sodium because of her diabetes and other health conditions. Every night before bed, she eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich so her blood sugar will "last through the night." When prompted about her participation in physical activity, she referred to her outings into the community, such as her weekly trips to the grocery store. She admitted that she sometimes needs to eat a small candy bar while shopping because she can tell she is "getting low" (on her blood sugar). My story starts like this; both of my parents are from Guadalajara well most of my family is from that part of México. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures, but every culture is unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do many of their ancestors' traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food we eat, the music we listen to, what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet sixteen but of course being Mexican my parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition is that when you turn 15 you're supposed to have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many people think a Quinceanera is just a party but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am catholic that consists of me going to church and thanking God. When it has to do with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your behavior is different. Women and Males have different rules and roles. I certainly don't recall seeing any of these things, but I am sure I did. My parents told me I never cried when I was born, which alarmed the doctors, but I like to think it's because I'm tough. I imagine myself brand new in the world, but not scared because it all looked so nice. I could smell bleach and soap and hear the soft voices of people who already unconditionally loved me. I was unaware of what any of this stuff was, but was aware something big and important just happened. I was aware that my existence was in that space, with those people, at that time; with those hospital curtains in front of the door, that were shadowing me from the rest of the world. Fast forward three years. "That is one homely baby," My grandma says. We were watching a parade on T.V. "What does that mean?" I asked. I learned what the word meant. Fear instantly struck me to my bones. "When will we go to the hospital?" I immediately inquired. I was eager to see my new baby brother, and very concerned he would be homely. "We can go now," she responded. Soon, we had arrived in a small waiting room, on a scratchy couch. There was a tiny, little T.V. hanging in the corner of the room with cartoons playing. • 79. Analysis Of The Book ' Rice For Thanksgiving ' Three people from three different backgrounds all with their own unique stories. It is amazing how diverse the world can be. Despite being so different these three people are all vastly similar in the methods they use to sway an audience. Daniel, the writer of The Necessity believes that parades are essential. This very simple display of culture allows normal everyday people the chance to escape from their deeply depressing lives and show a bit of pride. Fong, the writer of Rice for Thanksgiving has a particularly interesting reflection on his family history. Despite the troubles they went through due to discrimination he still believes in the melting pot that is America. Chelsey the writer of Taking the Bus talks about how her experiences with new and strange people on the bus have changed her outlook on life. The interactions with these people give her some perspective on how her life fits in in the grand scheme of things. All of these stories are different yet they all do one very similar thing. They use the human capacity for sympathy as a means of swaying the reader. Daniel continuously uses gloomy and depressing tone to make the reader feel as if all light has been sucked from the universe. He thinks "The world has enough degradation, humiliation, and disappointment for everybody to try some" (Daniel). By describing a world in which not a single shred of happiness still exists, a parade begins to seem like a glimmering light at the end of a long tunnel. This world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
