Each Mans Son Essay
Each Mans Son
This story is about a young women named Molly Macneil and her young son Alan. They live in a
town called Broughton which is located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Broughton is a small town
where most of its male inhabitants work at the colliery. Molly is a very lonely women who has been
taking on the role of a single mother for the last four years because her husband has been away. Her
husband, Archie Macneil, is in the United States following his boxing career. Molly also feels she
has to keep this a secret from Alan because she wants him to grow up to be a doctor not a boxer. She
will only tell Alan that her father has gone to make money for them and will return when he is
finished. She also tells him that his father is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Molly has a strong character and is very intelligent. Whenever Alan has a question she can always
answer it whether she makes it up or tells the truth. Molly is also determined to make a success out
of her son. Most of all Molly is a caring and warm person. She loves her son and is loved by
everyone in the town.
Daniel Ainslie is the town doctor. He is a very successful doctor because he is very smart and very
hardworking. He is often to involved in his work and this is causing him and his wife Margaret to
fight constantly. He loves her very much even though they fight a lot. He is a very passionate man in
everything he does. He also loves kids and wants a child but his wife cannot have children.
The passage I selected may not be the most exciting but I found it was the most important. It occurs
after Dr Ainslie had just finished operating on Alan for a severe case a appendicitis. He leaves the
hospital and rushes down to the warf not thinking where he is going because there are so many
thoughts rushing through his head. "She'll never let me!" he heard himself cry out once, and
recognized that "she" was Margaret, cool, detached, sensible, devoid of all trace of wild Highland
imagination. Again he saw Mollie leaning over the sick Alan in the miner's cottage, and the three
figures began to blur and come apart again. He tried to hold on and keep them separated long
enough to understand what had happened to him this night, but it had happened

Willy Loman Tragic Hero Essay
. HOOK– Sophocles defines a tragic hero as a man who fall from a place of high esteem to fate that
is not deserved due to a tragic flaw. These can all be associated with tragedy but the heroic aspect of
these characters is often forgotten.
A: Thesis– Willy Loman better fits Miller's definition of a tragic hero, then Joe Keller.
II. Extended Opinion #1––– Willy Loman's attempts for his life shows readers a glimpse into the the
remorse, and internal depression Willy' experiences invocating Sympathy among viewers more than
Joe Keller.
A. While some may argue that it is more tragic that Joe Keller killed himself expectedly, b the
prolonged suffering Willy felt is far worse, then a man releveling that he killed twenty–one pilots.
B. "The street is lined with cars. There's not a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. The grass
don't grow anymore, you can't raise a carrot in the backyard. They should've had a law against
apartment houses. Remember those two beautiful elm trees out there? When I and Biff hung the
swing between them?" (Miller, 5)
a. Willy is explaining his neighborhood to his wife, and remising of the good old days when
urbanization hadn't taken over his city. This is parallel to Willy's internal struggle with depression."
Joe Keller went on with his life after his trial, but Willy had been struggling for years. The time of
grief for Joe Keller is less than Willy Loman causing less time for readers to feel sympathy for him.
C. "I'm–I'm ashamed to. How

Personification In The Road
In the novel, The Road by Cormac McCarthy (2006), a boy and his father have to learn how to
survive in an apocalypse. However, the father was fortunate enough to grow up in a so–called
normal life, which means, no apocalypse, and now he is watching his son suffer through this
horrible life, that he himself, as a child, never went through. Papa watches as his son is hanging on
to hope by a string and starts realizing that he needs him more than ever, which then has him decide
to show him love in the darkest of times. In the beginning of the novel, Papa is deciding if it is even
worth suffering this much to survive. "He was lost in concentration" (p. 24). This quote
demonstrates personification, there is no way he can physically be lost in ... Show more content on

Cormac McCarthy fills this passage with tons of imagery and personification that forms a depth
about the feelings that the characters were experiencing. This brings us as the readers into the novel,
not just looking at the pages. "The warming house creaked and groaned" (p. 68); this quote that is in
the beginning of the passage is not only a personification but also an oxymoron. The "warming
house" does not have the power to literally creak and groan, but gives the readers the feelings of
unstably frightened. In addition, the "warming house" does not seem warm after describing it as
creaky and groaning, it does not give the welcoming feeling that a warming house usually gives off.
By the middle of the passage, when Papa and the boy were finished with their meal, Papa got up and
carried the boy (with a blanket wrapped around him) to the fire to stay warm, "The man rose and
came around and carried him to the hearth and put him down in the sheets covered with the blankets
... He rose and built back the fire and sat besides the boy and pulled the blankets over him ..." (p.
68). These combination of quotes show how the father still manages to keep his son warm, with love
and heat, and cares for him. By this point in the novel, Papa has realized that his son is keeping him
alive, otherwise there would be no point in living, therefore he is willing to suffer his life to keep

Analysis Of ' My Son The Man ' By Sharon Olds
Accepting Independence
Poetry is like a song without music, it has the ability to awaken your emotions and the ability to tell
stories that can paint beautiful, relatable, imagery in the viewer's mind. Upon reading the poem, "My
Son the Man" by Sharon Olds, she presents a unique view on her bittersweet experience of watching
her son gravitate towards manhood, "Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider" (line1), while realizing
he is astute enough to escape his mother's strong hold, "to learn the way out" (line 16). As a mother
myself, I began to recognize how I can relate to the speaker's challenges of understanding a child's
need to test limits and break free from dependency. I realized through the speaker's obvious
allusions to Houdini expressing the need to break free, the contrast used to convey the indirect
references to Houdini, and the similes used to express emotion toward reflecting back on a time of
innocence, accepting the need of a maturing child's independence proves the strength of a mother's
love.
"My Son the Man" begins by comparing her maturing son with the allusion to Houdini, "Suddenly
his shoulders get a lot wider, /the way Houdini would expand his body/while people were putting
him in chairs" (1–3), similar to Houdini preparing for his next challenge involving an almost
impossible trick. Therefore, lines 1–3 is used to express the shock of a child's rapid growth while
learning to overcome the manacles of growing up, similar to the physical manacles

Family is the dependence for every child to rely on. In prison or the world of post–apocalypse,
fathers stand significance roles to lead their remaining relatives and provide better lives for the kids
in the future. Father represents the symbol of masculinity and the backbone of supporting the entire
family despite the situation of the surrounding environment. The Road and Gonzalez and Daughter

Jesus, The Son Of Man
For numerous believers, the question remains curious of why the term Son of Man was used by
Jesus in self representation. Particularly intriguing is Jesus' use of this identification since God's
attributes are not fully comprehended in scope or of nature in their entirety, save what has been
revealed to us in Scripture. Therefore it is humbling to realize that Jesus makes such a firm
association with mankind. Combined with Jesus' humanity there still remains distinctive from His
title, the means which He uses to address (Moule, 1978) Himself.
"1 among those who still believe that it is Dan. 7 that gives it, in the Gospel tradition. it's decisive
colour. And what confirms me in this conclusion is among other things the fact that ... Show more

There is some dispute over the nature of Jesus' mission with how (Van Aarde, 2005) future events
would be shaped by Christ.
"Scholars have divided themselves into three camps. Some say Jesus was a wisdom teacher and,
according to these scholars' understanding 5, it seems that wisdom excludes an apocalyptic mind–
set. Others disagree 6. But there is also a third option 7. According to these scholars, both presence
(immanence) and future (eschatology) exist within the spectrum of Jesus' vision. This complexity is
interwoven with the problem pertaining to the continuity and/or discontinuity of the son of man
sayings by Jesus and those by the Jesus groups after his death."
I believe that the Daniel 7 linkage to Jesus' use of Son of Man will justify an apocalyptic inclusion,
these facts do not disbar Jesus' present or future activities.
Aramaic, Hebrew or Greek?
The case of whether or not Hebrew or Aramaic was used by Jesus in the utterance of Son of Man is
difficult to ascertain since Hebrew was used simultaneously in worship while Aramaic was used in
other daily living areas. Aramaic is considered the common language evidenced by the findings of
documents or fragments which proved to be items of textual contracts plus other written documents
of everyday life.
Consequently, all of these findings have been found to be written

The Eyes Of The Maid Griet Analysis
The genre of this book s historical fiction.
The title of the book is significant because it is an actual painting that is named by it. Although the
book is in the eyes of the maid, Griet, the book is a background for the painting that Johannes
Vermeer created in 1665.
One of the themes of the book is to take you through the journey of Griet in a life she is forced to
live in. In a life where your social status matters and affects the person you are. Your social status
affects how others view you. Her as a maid, cannot live another life because she is forced to become
a maid to help her parents. It doesn't matter what you want to do, if you don't have money then you
cannot realize your dream of becoming something greater until you have become greater in social
status.
II. Characters:
The protagonist in this story is Griet.
Griet is a caring person. Even though people may show the worst of them to her she still cares for
their wellbeing. She acknowledges them as people with respect. Griet is hardworking. She never

"He who can be a good son will be a good father." –Anonymous, This quote interprets that it
depends on who you are in relation to your father, that shapes you as a father. In many instances, the
son abandons or betrays the father. As a jewish teenage boy, Elie goes through the terrible conditions
foisted upon him in a concentration camp. Along with his father, Elie suffers the worst Nazi
Germany throws at him. In, Night, by Elie Weisel, The struggles of a concentration camp often
pitted individuals amongst closest friends, what's worst is when one got as desperate to turn on their

It takes one to be desperate enough to turn on a loving father or parent. Many agree the soul is
extinguished if one betrays kin. Following, the first example is Rabbi Eliahu and his son Zalmen. "A
terrible thought crossed my mind: What if he had wanted to be rid of his father? He had felt his
father growing weaker and, believing that the end was near, had thought by this separation to free
himself of a burden that could diminish his own chance for survival. It was good that I had forgotten
all that. And I was glad that Rabbi Eliahu continued to search for his beloved son." The son believed
that abandoning his father Rabbi Eliahu would increase his chances of survival and if so only
slightly. Even the slightest increase of chance he will survive he would take it, proving his
eagerness, and desperateness. This proves my claim because ruthless sons will do anything to
survive. Rabbi Eliahus' son is guilty of betrayal to his father, this exemplifies what one will do to

Breaking Home Syndrome Analysis
Breaking Home Ties: Rockwell's Interpretation of the Empty Nest Syndrome The feeling of grief
and loneliness parents may feel when their children leave home for the first time in order to live on
their own or attend a college or university is known as the Empty Nest Syndrome. When my parents
and I watched my older brother venture out of the only home he had known for eighteen years to
begin a new chapter of his life, I personally felt this syndrome's effects. I had to adjust to him no
longer sitting at the dinner table with us every evening or giving me rides to school in the morning
or walking the halls with me at school, and I know that my parents will also have to learn to adapt
once more when I myself graduate high school in a year and a half. This empty feeling, caused by
the abrupt absence of someone who has always been in your life and is suddenly not around
anymore, is most likely what also captivated Norman Rockwell during 1954 when he painted
Breaking Home Ties.
Through the inspiration of Rockwell's own personal troubles, as he mourned the absence of his three
sons who had all recently left home for universities, he was able to tell a story similar to his own
through his painting. His depiction of a farmer boy and his father and dog waiting for a train that
will take the young man to college conveys the sense of poignancy that all American families will
experience when their children inevitably leave them to begin their own individual lives.

Mark The Eschatological Son Of Man
Mark describes the Son of Man in three ways, as being the earthly Son of Man, the suffering Son of
Man and the Eschatological Son of Man. As the earthly Son of Man, He is capable of forgiving sin,
and He reigns over the Sabbath Day, while He teaches with authority and "claims the right to wield
immense religious power", as well as change Jewish laws and customs (Harris, 2014, pp. 147–148).
As the suffering Son of Man, Jesus is portrayed in Mark as a servant "who embraces suffering"
(Harris, 2014, p. 147). Jesus the Eschatological Son of Man maintained the ability to judge the souls
of all humankind, based on the direction and teachings He had provided, both while on earth and
through His word. Mark also represents that Jesus "comes in the

Analysis Of The Son Of Man By Rene Magritte
There's significance behind famous artworks that we see today in which artists create. In "The Son
of Man", the painter, René Magritte, paints several unique details that demonstrate symbolism of
many different things. Magritte places many items in the painting in certain positions and angles.
"The Son of Man" creates a curious, confused, and suspenseful mood towards the viewer. Magritte
places the details in "The Son of Man" in a peculiar style. An example of how he does this is the
green apple that's painted in front of the man's face. In the painting the apple is in front of the man's
face, covering it. Although it doesn't completely cover the man's face, on both sides of where the
apple is covering the face, the edge of the eyes and the creases of the mouth are still visible. The
creases of the mouth indicate that the man is frowning. The facial expression is a significant detail
towards what Magritte is creating which is a curious mood, and that's why the apple is in front of the
man's face. There are many other details within the painting that show what Magritte was trying to
create. While looking at the painting, there were a few interesting details where Magritte placed the
lights and shadows in the painting that supports the mood. Magritte heavily shades in the left arm
and hand and shades in the majority of the left lower half of the man's body. When contrasting the
left and right sides of the body, the right isn't heavily shaded as the left

Literary Analysis Of Rene Magritte's The Son Of Man
Part of human nature is to find faces in images whether they are supposed to be there or not. So,
Rene Magritte purposely made the face unseeable behind the apple. In his painting, there is more
than what meets the eye. The way in which he executed the piece is simple yet it still makes those
who see the art wonder what it represents. As like any artwork, successes and failures can be found
in Magritte's art and how well it portrays the meaning behind the piece. The Son of Man when
examined closer, can be more interesting than one might think. Representation lies in every form of
art. There is the literal representation, and there is the abstract figurative way of viewing. Simply,
the painting shows a man with an apple in front of his face and a storm taking place behind him.
Many think the fruit is referencing the tale of William Tell in which he shot an apple off his son's
head. Since in Magritte's painting the fruit is floating in front of him, this alludes to him about to be
shot in the face. Others quickly think religion inspired the work. The Son of Man sounds eerily close
to Son of Man, which is Jesus' title. Also, the green fruit could be from the famous tale of the
Garden of Eden where Eve took a bite from an apple and committed the first sin. Neither of these
are wrong, but Rene Magritte states, "Well so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the
visible but hidden, the face of a person... There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the

Analysis Of The Son Of Man By Rene Magritte
RENE MAGRITTE
The famous Belgian surrealist artist "Rene Magritte" was famous for his everyday imaginary and
interesting graphics. Title: The Son of Man (1964)
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 45.67 in x 35 in
The Son of Man is a self–portrait. The painting represents a man in black coat pant with white shirt
and a bowler had on his head. He is standing in the front of a short wall. The background shows sea
and above it, there is sky with dark gray clouds. The surprising thing in the painting is that the
person's face is covered with a green color apple. The man's eyes can be seen looking over the edge
of the apple. His left arm is bend to backward. The artist explains that the painting shows the human
curiosity to see the things. The person always wants to see the hidden part. There is always an
interest to see what is hidden and what the visible thing is hiding behind but then one is often angry
with this interest. This painting brings that frustration or angriness in this painting by putting the
person's face behind the green apple. The argument between the observable that is available and the
noticeable that is covered up. Title: The False Mirror (1928)

The Son Of Macduff, The Doctor And The Old Man
The minor characters in Macbeth may not have significant titles, but their actions, and words
symbolically show who they are. And who they really are affects the plot greatly. The Son of
Macduff, the Doctor, and the Old Man all are very symbolic. First, the Son of Macduff is only
recognized as being the son of a thane. So when he is told by his mother in the fourth act that his
father is a traitor that means he will grow up to be one too. PUT QUOTE ABOUT BIRD. The son
asks his mother what a traitor is and how he will live like a bird and get by without his father. This
proves to show how innocent and young the Son of Macduff is, which proves to show that
Macbeth's killing him was cruel and inhuman. He impacts the plot greatly because it shows that
Macbeth will go to the point of killing children and women. Ironically, when he is killed the
murderer calls him an egg as if he was never a "bird" officially and didn't have a chance to get by. ...

doing terrible with Macbeth as their king, but what is interesting is how Shakespeare let the

Theme Of Father And Son Relationships In Night By Elie Wiesel
One of the major themes that can be found in Night, by Elie Wiesel, is one of father/son
relationships. To quote a father from the book, Stein, "The only thing that keeps me alive is knowing
that Reizel and the little ones are still alive." Not all father/son relationships are as good however.
Another part of the book reads, "I once saw. . . a boy of thirteen, beat his father for not making his
bed properly. As the old man quietly wept, the boy was yelling, 'If you don't stop crying instantly, I
will no longer bring you bread. Understood?'" In presenting examples like these, Wiesel
communicates a message of the importance of good father/son relationships to his readers. This
paper will examine father/son relationships throughout the book, ... Show more content on

There were also several negative father/son relationships found in the book. One such relationship is
that of a young pipel, and his father. Wiesel writes, "I once saw one of them, a boy of thirteen, beat
his father for not making his bed properly. As the old man quietly wept, the boy was yelling, 'If you
don't stop crying instantly, I will no longer bring you bread. Understood?'" This is an example of
how life in the concentration camp causes a boy to throw aside his relations for the sake of his own
survival. A second example is that of Rabbi Elihou and his son. While Rabbi Elihou cared deeply for
his son, the Rabbi's son viewed his father as a burden and left him behind. Shortly following the
passage about the Rabbi looking for for his son, Wiesel writes, "But then I remembered something
else: his son had seen him losing ground, sliding back to the rear of the column... A terrible thought
crossed my mind: What if he had wanted to be rid of his father?" The third example of a poor
father/son relationship occurs in the cattle car. A worker throws bread into the cars causing
immediate desperate fighting. An old man manages to grab a piece of bread shortly before this
passage, "Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: "Meir, my little Mier! Don't you recognize
me... You're killing your father...I have bread... for you too.... for you to...but the other threw himself
on top of him. The old man

Father And Son By Li-Young Lee: Poem Analysis
The relationship between a father and a son can be expressed in many ways. Many people think of
"like father like son" or the silly father trying to make his kids laugh by making a fool of himself.
They may also think of a dad as someone whom kids look up to as if he is Superman or the
Incredible Hulk. Beyond these stereotypes though, father and son relationships are much more
complex. This is illustrated in a contemporary poem by Li–Young Lee about a father and his
connection with his son with the use of many different literary devices. The first literary device the
poem uses is appealing to inner emotions. The poem begins with the father about to tell his son a
story. The man is sad because he cannot come up with a new story, though his ... Show more content

The relationship between father and son is highly symbolized by the boy's willingness to hear his
father's stories at different ages. When the son is still young, he looks up to his father and wants to
hear the stories his father has to tell. This symbolizes the son's love for his father and his wish to
maintain a loving relationship with him. The scenario in which the boy is all grown up is one of the
father's greatest fears. He is afraid that one day the boy will no longer want to hear his stories and
that he will want to leave him. This embodies the idea of the son no longer loving his father and
wanting a relationship with him. He then symbolically leaves because the father has nothing left to
offer him and he no longer wants to be with him. In continuation, the father thinks of things such as
"Are you a god... that I sit mute before you?" and "Am I a god that I should never disappoint?" This
symbolizes the anger and frustration that would come out of having lost something or someone dear
to the heart. He is thinking about how unfair it is that his son would leave him because he could not
come up with what he wanted and that he wasn't good enough for him. This of course is over the
topic of telling his child a story, but symbolizes not being good enough in his entire being. He is
afraid of not being the man his son thinks he

Big Jesse In Brownsville
Last week I read, "Big Jesse, Little Jesse," of Oscar Casares' fictional novel Brownsville. "Big Jesse,
Little Jesse," tells the story of a twenty–four–year–old father, Jesse, who struggles to retain a father–
son relationship with his physically disabled son. Throughout the story, Jesse continuously treats his
son, as a boy without a physical disability. His state–of–denial further blinds him of his self–pride
that views his son's disability as a public failure. Jesse has the same machismo characteristics of
other characters of Brownsville however, Jesse's story is the first time that we see a man become
humiliated. In this post, I would like to analyze the characteristics of pride in Jesse, as well describe
how his hubris becomes broken. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wife's family dislikes him, and even, "He wouldn't like a guy like himself" (Casares 97). The
guy is a walking failure. Through Jesse's failings, he creates a machismo persona that entails him to
be tough on the outside, but emotionally vulnerable on the inside. Furthermore, Jesse extends his
prideful behavior to Little Jesse, so that his son doesn't become a failure like his father. He wants his
son to be tough so society will accept him. However, Jesse believes his son's physical condition is
what's causing the two of them to be public failures. Jesse gets arrested by police after his brawl at
the carnival, which breaks his pride. While Jesse is led out by police (handcuffed), the surrounding
crowd publicly humiliates him. He even walks strangely as he lost his shoe during the altercation.
Thus, he learns what it must feel like to be in his son's footsteps. The humility his son must
continuously endure because of his disablement. Instead of acting tough or defending himself to the
surrounding public he just, "lets them keep laughing." He embraces the humility so he can learn to,
"grow up already and stop acting like he's eighteen" (Casares 113). Through his own understanding
of humiliation, Jesse can learn how to be a better man to his

John Cheever Reunion
With a society rooted in the traditional roles of the sexes, stereotypes are inevitable in America. The
soft, quiet, and pretty woman. The intimidating and masculine man, almost always the breadwinner
of the family. The daughter, who exclusively plays with plastic dolls and make–pretend tea parties.
In "Reunion" by John Cheever, the focus is on the relationship between father and son. The father
portrayed as destructive, aggressive, insensitive, a worn out cliché. The son is the author himself,
walking around in the shadow of his father, looking up to him, at first. This relationship between
Cheever and his father brings a light to the toxic masculinity portrayed in movies, television shows,
and literature. By depicting this false view of what a strong male lead looks like, Cheever helps
perpetuate these stereotypes. One of these standards for men is that they are supposed to be
emotionless and indifferent, which he embraces in this piece. When the author first sets up this
meeting with his father, the reader has the first impression that the father is cold and impersonal
with his own son. "... I wrote my father that I would be in New York between trains for an hour and
a half, and asked if we could have lunch together. His secretary wrote to say that he would meet me

As they walk into the various restaurants and bars during their visit, Mr. Cheever is consistently
rude, aggressive, and rowdy. This apparent noise that Cheever's father is constantly making is
another overused cliché about powerful men and their behavior. "We sat down, and my father hailed
the waiter in a loud voice. 'Kellner!' he shouted. 'Garçon! Cameriere! You!' His boisterousness in the
empty restaurant seemed out of place." Language like this furthers the belief that strong men are

Father Son Relationships In Things Fall Apart
"Every father should remember that one day his son will follow his example instead of his advice."
This quote by Charles F Kettering embodies what a father son relationship really is. A father is
someone a son looks up to, whether in a good or bad light depends on the situation. Father son
relationships can take two paths, one where the son does everything the father hates and the others
were the son does everything the father does. Fathers play a major role in their son's life with
examples of the relationship found throughout the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe in the
characters of Okonkwo, Nwoye and Unoka. For better or worse Unoka played a major role in
Okonkwo's life. "It was fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father." (Achebe 13).
Throughout the entirety of Okonkwo's life, his relationship with his father would affect his decisions
which were always based on the question, "Would my father do this?", and if he would he would do
the opposite. Okonkwo viewed his father as a failure and did not want to even be seen as being
related to him. Okonkwo got this impression at a young age, "Even as a young boy he resented his
father's failure and weaknesses ..." (Achebe 13). The lessons that Okonkwo got from ... Show more

Okonkwo took all of the feelings of how he felt about his father and made sure to teach his son the
right way unlike his father. These teaching did not go over well for Nwoye however, "Nwoye was
only twelve years old but was already causing his father great anxiety for his incipient laziness."
(Achebe 13) Okonkwo's constant shows of how a man should be really had the opposite effect on
Nwoye. Nwoye developed into a boy that resembled his father in the way he acted, and that
bothered Okonkwo. The relationship between Okonkwo and Nwoye shows that not only does the
father son relationship affect the son it also affects his son and so

The Types Of Hostile Sexism In The Gender Equality Movement
Hostile sexism exists in about any place one might look. Whether it be in the classroom or in the
workplace, sexist people are the culprit in the gender equality movement. However, not all types of
sexism are apparent. Benevolent sexism is a passive form of stereotyping people based on their
gender (Glick). Surprisingly, this type of passive sexism starts at home. When parents have a baby
boy or girl, their future and expectations are already mapped out and planned in the minds of their
parents. While it might not be obvious at first, parents do hold different standards and hoped for
their children based on their gender. When a girl is born, she is immediately dressed in pink and
associated with the delicacy and femininity that comes with being a woman. A mother's expectation
of her daughter when she is young are quite superficial. She expects her to be beautiful, kind, and
obedient. Most importantly, a mother expects her daughter to be reflection of herself. A father has
high hopes for his daughter. He hopes his daughter is a pretty girl who is strong–willed and can take
care of herself. Even though mothers and fathers wish for their daughters independence when they
are older, they tend to teach them to be dependent as children which rolls over into adulthood. For
their sons, mothers raise them early on to be sympathetic and smart. A father wants his son to start
off successful and intelligent. His son is what is going to carry his legacy and he want to protect it at

Essay on Natalia Ginzburg's The Son of Man
Natalia Ginzburg's The Son of Man
In "The Son of Man," Natalia Ginzburg asserts that while the war did irreparable psychological
damage to its survivors, it also gave the young generation enough strength to confront the stark
reality of the precarious nature of human existence. Passionately but concisely, through the use of
repetitive imagery, fatalistic tone and lack of classic organization, Ginzburg shows how the war
changed the world around Man and how Man changed his perception of the world.
People cannot choose the time to live and die. Ginzburg had to live through the horrors of war:
destroyed houses, air raids, arrests, and death. She shows how the war not only deprives people of
their belongings, but also distorts the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than half the sentences in the essay contain some sort of negation. With relentless obsession
she repeats "never," "no longer," "useless," "we cannot," and every time it means: do not delude
yourself – the wounds of the war are incurable. Adjectives and nouns: "incurable," "darkest,"
"insecurity," underscore even more deeply the fatalistic atmosphere she creates. Most sentences are
very short as if cutting off any opportunity for a reader to have another opinion. She aims to reach
our hearts, not our heads. "We shall not get over this war. It is useless to try." She repeats this
thought over and over driving it relentlessly into the reader's mind and leaving no hope for a happy
ending.
At first sight, the organization of the essay may seem chaotic – deprived of the three classical parts.
There is no introductory paragraph (to acquaint a reader with a situation she only says "There has
been a war"), no plot development (because there is no plot), and no clear finale (nothing new can
be added or finalized). Ginzburg deprives a reader of the classical organization to show that war is
not a history with beginning and ending dates: people have suffered and are tied to their suffering
forever. However, she does provide some organization on a paragraph level. As if leading the reader

The Coming Of The Son Of Man Rhetorical Analysis
Matthew 24:15–28 follows the verses talking about the birth pangs that took hold of the whole
world and leads to the great tribulation that only occurs in Judea (Mitch and Sri, 307). The trials of
tribulation are signs of "the coming of the Son of Man" and the last judgment, which is why
Matthew has such an urgent tone in this section (Mitch and Sri, 308). When Jesus speaks, he alludes
to the "book of Daniel" by using the phrase "desolating abomination" which refers to "an act of
sacrilege" that ceases acts of sacrifice in the temple (Mitch and Sri, 308). The "book of Daniel"
refers the "desolating abomination" to the time when "Antiochus IV Epiphanes, in 167 BC, banished
the Jewish culture, "seized control of the temple," and "erected a pagan ... Show more content on

He also gives woe to the Jews who have to flee on the Sabbath and go against the laws enforcing
rest on that day (Mitch and Sri, 309). The greatest "time of distress" "since the beginning of the
word or that ever will be" will occur during the great tribulation, but this could also be a hyperbole
just to show how treacherous the great tribulation will be in Judea (Mitch and Sri, 309). However,
because of God's mercy for the elect, the time will short because not even His followers could
survive the wrath of the great tribulation (Mitch and Sri, 309). The greatest dangers will be those
who call themselves the Messiah and use persuasion, "signs, and wonders" to lead people into
darkness, but the "the disciples are made aware ... beforehand" so that the deception may be
combated by the disciples (Mitch and Sri, 309). The coming of the Messiah will be visible, quite
"unmistakable as lightning streaking across the sky," and it will be "a grand, public event" (Mitch

Surrealism In Ren Magritte's The Son Of Man
In 1964 artist René Magritte painted The Son of Man. In the surrealism period, Magritte oil painted
it as a self portrait. Something I questioned during my research, what is surrealism? Merriam–
Webster's definition is, "Surrealism: the principles, ideals, or practice of producing fantastic or
incongruous imagery or effects in art, literature, film, or theater by means of unnatural or irrational
juxtapositions and combinations." Surrealism's goal was to release thought, human experience, and
language from the cruel boundaries of rationalism (Mann). When looking at this particular painting,
one will see a man in a dirty grey to black overcoat; finishing his outfit with a circular top hat. The
background of the painting is a short, cement wall breaking the horizon line with a stormy looking
sky and dusty sea. The first thing an inspector's eye goes to is the green apple veiling over the man's
face. The apple seems to be floating in mid air. When looking closely, one would see the top of the
gentleman's eyes peeking over the apple. Another astute detail in the painting is the man's left arm,
which seems to be bent backwards at the elbow. The man in this picture, I feel, is hiding a deep
secret. Other than the backwards elbow, his figure seems to be normal on the surface, but, because
of his face being covered the assessor wants to see the face. We want to see what is beyond the apple
and the reasoning behind his face being covered. When seeing The Son of Man for the first time, I
thought that he was an educated man trapped in his own thoughts because the government had mind
control over its citizens. I thought this because when I saw an apple, I thought of a teacher. To be a
teacher, one must be reputable and educated. I had no idea what time period, country, or situation
this painting was composed. In countries other than America, you cannot out smart the government
because they have so much control over their citizens. So maybe he knew he was intelligent and
could outsmart the government (his eyes peeking over the apple), but chose to rebel by art. Upon
completing research, I discovered the biblical meaning behind the apple. The apple or the "forbidden
fruit" is the symbol of the original sin, going all the

The Poem Essay: A Crossing, By Mark Slouka
Essay A: Crossing– by Mark Slouka
The feeling of getting closer together, and the fact that fathers always try to be close to their sons, is
not an abnormal thing. For many years' fathers and sons have shared some experiences together –
especially in nature. Whether it is going fishing together or trips to the wild. Furthermore, this is a
way fathers can get the knowledge of their sons, and getting much closer to each other – because
they are the only two on the trip into the wild. In this short story named Crossing from 2009 written
by Mark Slouka, a father takes his son on a trip into the wilderness, to experience the nature
together. But nature is not always kind, and therefore it can be challenging, and shall definitely not
be underestimated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is left with the question: Will they pass the river, or be trapped in it? The reader may
conclude what is going to happen, through an interpretation of the story. The father and the son are
left in the river between safety and danger. The father drags the son in a dangerous situation, which
is the line between life and death. In this sentence: "He wanted to scream for help. There was no one
– just the rushing plain of the river, the trees. He couldn't move." (page 4, line 145–146) it can
indicate that they might not make it and that the father already realized that. The father, therefore,
tries to calm his son, and then he thinks about how the priest kissed the victims before they died, and
then it can be interpreted that he wanted to make his son feel safe before the river takes them away.
The title of the story is "Crossing", which is written in extended time –what make seem like an
unfinished conclusion. That the ending is not closed, and that they are standing between life and
death, and that what's happen next is up to the reader to find out. The title indicates that the father
and son are crossing something, and in this story it is a river, which can be interpreted as a portal
from life to death, that they are standing in

Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel
"Luke, I am Your Father" The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond.
Every man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons
carried on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This
unspoken bond between father and son leads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels a
responsibility to care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him.
These themes resound in Elie Wiesel's novel Night which was written about Wiesel's experiences in
Nazi concentration camps. This novel revolves around the father/son relationship in which Eliezer
experiences first–hand and witnesses from afar.
When Elie's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought with
tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their fathers as
if they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a different
concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners died that night
from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by saying, "The dead
remained in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen guards....Sons abandoned
the remains of their fathers without a tear,"(Pg 92). Elie was horrified by this sight and was thankful
that his father was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his father passed away that night was
because they watched out for one another to make sure they did not pass away. That is an incredible
bond. Elie was always watching out for his father, and vice versa; however, others sons wished for
their fathers' deaths, as to relieve a dead weight.
Some sons abused their fathers in order to show their personal strength. When everyone was being
transferred to another concentration camp, the men were not given food. When the train passed by a
certain German city, the onlookers threw bread into the train cars. A piece of bread was thrown into
Elie's car and it was chaos. There was a certain old

Liar Liar Compare And Contrast
In Alan McMonagle's Liar Liar, the father's approachable state becomes solely dependable upon his
inebriation. As the son finds his father to be a happier man late at night when he gets home
intoxicated, this element creates a much stronger bond between the son and his father. This can be
seen when they both begin discussing their common passion: Gangster movies. By doing so, the
author demonstrates the existing bond between the two main characters. Although the son does not
know of his father's inebriation, it is made obvious to the reader that the father is a better, happier,
and more approachable person every time that he is not sober. He remembers perfectly the most
famous lines and impressions from all of them (McMonagle 54). By doing

The Road The Story Of A Man And His Son
In Cormac McCarthy's The Road the story of a man and his son walking down a road in a post–
apocalyptic world is told. McCarthy's tale of the end of the world is set in a very realistic and dark
setting while using depressing and miserable details about the world around the man and his son and
the survivors that they come to encounter. Throughout the book, McCarthy writes about a "fire" that
a man and his son are carrying, while they struggle with the notion that they are the "good guys"
who are avoiding the "bad guys" in the world, all the while McCarthy leaves out somewhat
important details like what caused the end of the world and what his two characters names are.
McCarthy consistently writes about "fire" throughout the book, be it both literally and
metaphorically. The literal need for fire is essential for the survival of the man and the boy, while the
metaphorical "fire" is used as a symbol of wanting to survive this bleak, depressing world. To the
boy and the man a real fire is needed to survive because McCarthy writes how it's the beginning of
winter and "The few blankets they had would not keep them warm" (McCarthy102). Whereas the
metaphorical fire is the motivation to survive, while the man is dying he tells his son "You have to
carry the fire...It's real... It's inside you I can see it" (McCarthy279). Fire is used to symbolize
survival in both the literal and figurative way. Without the "fire" the man and the boy wouldn't
survive by either freezing to death or just

Fences Character Analysis
The play Fences by August Wilson centers around the character of Troy, a middle–aged African–
American man. Troy struggles to keep his family together, mostly as the result of mistakes he has
made as a husband and parent. These mistakes reflect certain personality traits that make up Troy's
complex character, including his obsession with providing financially, his inability to love his
family, and his stubborn insistence on others following the paths he decides for them. These
character traits can be explained by the social, racial, and economic climate of the time. Fences
takes place in late 1950's Pennsylvania during the beginning of the Civil Rights Era, and Troy's
character is shaped by the disappointments that have come along with racism and economic
difficulty, along with not being up to date on the changes happening in the Civil Rights movement.
Although Troy and his character traits are responsible for the tragic decisions he has made, it is
possible that the social context of the time has shaped him into the person he is.
One of Troy's major flaws is his obsession with having a practical career and a steady income. He
claims that, although he does not "like" his son, he will always work hard to provide for him
because "It's my job. It's my responsibility... A man got to take care of his family." (Wilson 38). He
cares very deeply that his sons are also able to guarantee income, even if it costs them their passion.
Troy disapproves of his son Lyons decision to pursue

Why Honey By Raymond Carver
Why, honey? is a short story written by Raymond Carver. The story has been written in the form of a
mother's letter describing the problematic and untrustful relationship between a fearing mother and
her son. Fear, trust and desperation are constantly present in this story which Carver has written to
hint a treacherous and heartless image of powerful people masked into a story about a boy and a
mother.
In the very beginning you can see that you are reading a letter as the story starts with the words
"Dear Sir,". In the very first paragraph the author already creates a feeling of something being wrong
as the mother tells she is afraid of her son. Immediately the reader gets to know that her son is

The son who took power over his mother and lied to her has studied and educated himself to rise in
the political hierarchy, now taking power over millions of people and possibly having reached his
position with the same habit of lying he's had since he was a kid. It makes you wonder and hope this

He also frequently touches upon an issue of veterans' impaired ability to establish social relations,

liked particularly everything about those girls, still he was only observing. This was his attempt to

Each Mans Son Essay

  • 1. Each Mans Son Essay Each Mans Son This story is about a young women named Molly Macneil and her young son Alan. They live in a town called Broughton which is located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Broughton is a small town where most of its male inhabitants work at the colliery. Molly is a very lonely women who has been taking on the role of a single mother for the last four years because her husband has been away. Her husband, Archie Macneil, is in the United States following his boxing career. Molly also feels she has to keep this a secret from Alan because she wants him to grow up to be a doctor not a boxer. She will only tell Alan that her father has gone to make money for them and will return when he is finished. She also tells him that his father is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Molly has a strong character and is very intelligent. Whenever Alan has a question she can always answer it whether she makes it up or tells the truth. Molly is also determined to make a success out of her son. Most of all Molly is a caring and warm person. She loves her son and is loved by everyone in the town. Daniel Ainslie is the town doctor. He is a very successful doctor because he is very smart and very hardworking. He is often to involved in his work and this is causing him and his wife Margaret to fight constantly. He loves her very much even though they fight a lot. He is a very passionate man in everything he does. He also loves kids and wants a child but his wife cannot have children. The passage I selected may not be the most exciting but I found it was the most important. It occurs after Dr Ainslie had just finished operating on Alan for a severe case a appendicitis. He leaves the hospital and rushes down to the warf not thinking where he is going because there are so many thoughts rushing through his head. "She'll never let me!" he heard himself cry out once, and recognized that "she" was Margaret, cool, detached, sensible, devoid of all trace of wild Highland imagination. Again he saw Mollie leaning over the sick Alan in the miner's cottage, and the three figures began to blur and come apart again. He tried to hold on and keep them separated long enough to understand what had happened to him this night, but it had happened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Willy Loman Tragic Hero Essay . HOOK– Sophocles defines a tragic hero as a man who fall from a place of high esteem to fate that is not deserved due to a tragic flaw. These can all be associated with tragedy but the heroic aspect of these characters is often forgotten. A: Thesis– Willy Loman better fits Miller's definition of a tragic hero, then Joe Keller. II. Extended Opinion #1––– Willy Loman's attempts for his life shows readers a glimpse into the the remorse, and internal depression Willy' experiences invocating Sympathy among viewers more than Joe Keller. A. While some may argue that it is more tragic that Joe Keller killed himself expectedly, b the prolonged suffering Willy felt is far worse, then a man releveling that he killed twenty–one pilots. B. "The street is lined with cars. There's not a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. The grass don't grow anymore, you can't raise a carrot in the backyard. They should've had a law against apartment houses. Remember those two beautiful elm trees out there? When I and Biff hung the swing between them?" (Miller, 5) a. Willy is explaining his neighborhood to his wife, and remising of the good old days when urbanization hadn't taken over his city. This is parallel to Willy's internal struggle with depression." Joe Keller went on with his life after his trial, but Willy had been struggling for years. The time of grief for Joe Keller is less than Willy Loman causing less time for readers to feel sympathy for him. C. "I'm–I'm ashamed to. How ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personification In The Road In the novel, The Road by Cormac McCarthy (2006), a boy and his father have to learn how to survive in an apocalypse. However, the father was fortunate enough to grow up in a so–called normal life, which means, no apocalypse, and now he is watching his son suffer through this horrible life, that he himself, as a child, never went through. Papa watches as his son is hanging on to hope by a string and starts realizing that he needs him more than ever, which then has him decide to show him love in the darkest of times. In the beginning of the novel, Papa is deciding if it is even worth suffering this much to survive. "He was lost in concentration" (p. 24). This quote demonstrates personification, there is no way he can physically be lost in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cormac McCarthy fills this passage with tons of imagery and personification that forms a depth about the feelings that the characters were experiencing. This brings us as the readers into the novel, not just looking at the pages. "The warming house creaked and groaned" (p. 68); this quote that is in the beginning of the passage is not only a personification but also an oxymoron. The "warming house" does not have the power to literally creak and groan, but gives the readers the feelings of unstably frightened. In addition, the "warming house" does not seem warm after describing it as creaky and groaning, it does not give the welcoming feeling that a warming house usually gives off. By the middle of the passage, when Papa and the boy were finished with their meal, Papa got up and carried the boy (with a blanket wrapped around him) to the fire to stay warm, "The man rose and came around and carried him to the hearth and put him down in the sheets covered with the blankets ... He rose and built back the fire and sat besides the boy and pulled the blankets over him ..." (p. 68). These combination of quotes show how the father still manages to keep his son warm, with love and heat, and cares for him. By this point in the novel, Papa has realized that his son is keeping him alive, otherwise there would be no point in living, therefore he is willing to suffer his life to keep him ... • 7. Analysis Of ' My Son The Man ' By Sharon Olds Accepting Independence Poetry is like a song without music, it has the ability to awaken your emotions and the ability to tell stories that can paint beautiful, relatable, imagery in the viewer's mind. Upon reading the poem, "My Son the Man" by Sharon Olds, she presents a unique view on her bittersweet experience of watching her son gravitate towards manhood, "Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider" (line1), while realizing he is astute enough to escape his mother's strong hold, "to learn the way out" (line 16). As a mother myself, I began to recognize how I can relate to the speaker's challenges of understanding a child's need to test limits and break free from dependency. I realized through the speaker's obvious allusions to Houdini expressing the need to break free, the contrast used to convey the indirect references to Houdini, and the similes used to express emotion toward reflecting back on a time of innocence, accepting the need of a maturing child's independence proves the strength of a mother's love. "My Son the Man" begins by comparing her maturing son with the allusion to Houdini, "Suddenly his shoulders get a lot wider, /the way Houdini would expand his body/while people were putting him in chairs" (1–3), similar to Houdini preparing for his next challenge involving an almost impossible trick. Therefore, lines 1–3 is used to express the shock of a child's rapid growth while learning to overcome the manacles of growing up, similar to the physical manacles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Jesus, The Son Of Man For numerous believers, the question remains curious of why the term Son of Man was used by Jesus in self representation. Particularly intriguing is Jesus' use of this identification since God's attributes are not fully comprehended in scope or of nature in their entirety, save what has been revealed to us in Scripture. Therefore it is humbling to realize that Jesus makes such a firm association with mankind. Combined with Jesus' humanity there still remains distinctive from His title, the means which He uses to address (Moule, 1978) Himself. "1 among those who still believe that it is Dan. 7 that gives it, in the Gospel tradition. it's decisive colour. And what confirms me in this conclusion is among other things the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is some dispute over the nature of Jesus' mission with how (Van Aarde, 2005) future events would be shaped by Christ. "Scholars have divided themselves into three camps. Some say Jesus was a wisdom teacher and, according to these scholars' understanding 5, it seems that wisdom excludes an apocalyptic mind– set. Others disagree 6. But there is also a third option 7. According to these scholars, both presence (immanence) and future (eschatology) exist within the spectrum of Jesus' vision. This complexity is interwoven with the problem pertaining to the continuity and/or discontinuity of the son of man sayings by Jesus and those by the Jesus groups after his death." I believe that the Daniel 7 linkage to Jesus' use of Son of Man will justify an apocalyptic inclusion, these facts do not disbar Jesus' present or future activities. Aramaic, Hebrew or Greek? The case of whether or not Hebrew or Aramaic was used by Jesus in the utterance of Son of Man is difficult to ascertain since Hebrew was used simultaneously in worship while Aramaic was used in other daily living areas. Aramaic is considered the common language evidenced by the findings of documents or fragments which proved to be items of textual contracts plus other written documents of everyday life. Consequently, all of these findings have been found to be written ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It takes one to be desperate enough to turn on a loving father or parent. Many agree the soul is extinguished if one betrays kin. Following, the first example is Rabbi Eliahu and his son Zalmen. "A terrible thought crossed my mind: What if he had wanted to be rid of his father? He had felt his father growing weaker and, believing that the end was near, had thought by this separation to free himself of a burden that could diminish his own chance for survival. It was good that I had forgotten all that. And I was glad that Rabbi Eliahu continued to search for his beloved son." The son believed that abandoning his father Rabbi Eliahu would increase his chances of survival and if so only slightly. Even the slightest increase of chance he will survive he would take it, proving his eagerness, and desperateness. This proves my claim because ruthless sons will do anything to survive. • 21. Breaking Home Syndrome Analysis Breaking Home Ties: Rockwell's Interpretation of the Empty Nest Syndrome The feeling of grief and loneliness parents may feel when their children leave home for the first time in order to live on their own or attend a college or university is known as the Empty Nest Syndrome. When my parents and I watched my older brother venture out of the only home he had known for eighteen years to begin a new chapter of his life, I personally felt this syndrome's effects. I had to adjust to him no longer sitting at the dinner table with us every evening or giving me rides to school in the morning or walking the halls with me at school, and I know that my parents will also have to learn to adapt once more when I myself graduate high school in a year and a half. This empty feeling, caused by the abrupt absence of someone who has always been in your life and is suddenly not around anymore, is most likely what also captivated Norman Rockwell during 1954 when he painted Breaking Home Ties. Through the inspiration of Rockwell's own personal troubles, as he mourned the absence of his three sons who had all recently left home for universities, he was able to tell a story similar to his own through his painting. His depiction of a farmer boy and his father and dog waiting for a train that will take the young man to college conveys the sense of poignancy that all American families will experience when their children inevitably leave them to begin their own individual lives. As the earthly Son of Man, He is capable of forgiving sin, and He reigns over the Sabbath Day, while He teaches with authority and "claims the right to wield immense religious power", as well as change Jewish laws and customs (Harris, 2014, pp. 147–148). As the suffering Son of Man, Jesus is portrayed in Mark as a servant "who embraces suffering" (Harris, 2014, p. 147). In "The Son of Man", the painter, René Magritte, paints several unique details that demonstrate symbolism of many different things. Magritte places many items in the painting in certain positions and angles. "The Son of Man" creates a curious, confused, and suspenseful mood towards the viewer. Magritte places the details in "The Son of Man" in a peculiar style. An example of how he does this is the green apple that's painted in front of the man's face. In the painting the apple is in front of the man's face, covering it. Although it doesn't completely cover the man's face, on both sides of where the apple is covering the face, the edge of the eyes and the creases of the mouth are still visible. The creases of the mouth indicate that the man is frowning. The facial expression is a significant detail towards what Magritte is creating which is a curious mood, and that's why the apple is in front of the man's face. There are many other details within the painting that show what Magritte was trying to create. While looking at the painting, there were a few interesting details where Magritte placed the lights and shadows in the painting that supports the mood. Magritte heavily shades in the left arm and hand and shades in the majority of the left lower half of the man's body. When contrasting the left and right sides of the body, the right isn't heavily shaded as the left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Literary Analysis Of Rene Magritte's The Son Of Man Part of human nature is to find faces in images whether they are supposed to be there or not. So, Rene Magritte purposely made the face unseeable behind the apple. In his painting, there is more than what meets the eye. The way in which he executed the piece is simple yet it still makes those who see the art wonder what it represents. As like any artwork, successes and failures can be found in Magritte's art and how well it portrays the meaning behind the piece. The Son of Man when examined closer, can be more interesting than one might think. Representation lies in every form of art. There is the literal representation, and there is the abstract figurative way of viewing. Simply, the painting shows a man with an apple in front of his face and a storm taking place behind him. Many think the fruit is referencing the tale of William Tell in which he shot an apple off his son's head. Since in Magritte's painting the fruit is floating in front of him, this alludes to him about to be shot in the face. Others quickly think religion inspired the work. The Son of Man sounds eerily close to Son of Man, which is Jesus' title. Also, the green fruit could be from the famous tale of the Garden of Eden where Eve took a bite from an apple and committed the first sin. Neither of these are wrong, but Rene Magritte states, "Well so you have the apparent face, the apple, hiding the visible but hidden, the face of a person... There is an interest in that which is hidden and which the visible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Analysis Of The Son Of Man By Rene Magritte RENE MAGRITTE The famous Belgian surrealist artist "Rene Magritte" was famous for his everyday imaginary and interesting graphics. Title: The Son of Man (1964) Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 45.67 in x 35 in The Son of Man is a self–portrait. The painting represents a man in black coat pant with white shirt and a bowler had on his head. He is standing in the front of a short wall. The background shows sea and above it, there is sky with dark gray clouds. The surprising thing in the painting is that the person's face is covered with a green color apple. The man's eyes can be seen looking over the edge of the apple. His left arm is bend to backward. The artist explains that the painting shows the human curiosity to see the things. The person always wants to see the hidden part. There is always an interest to see what is hidden and what the visible thing is hiding behind but then one is often angry with this interest. This painting brings that frustration or angriness in this painting by putting the person's face behind the green apple. • 33. The Son Of Macduff, The Doctor And The Old Man The minor characters in Macbeth may not have significant titles, but their actions, and words symbolically show who they are. And who they really are affects the plot greatly. The Son of Macduff, the Doctor, and the Old Man all are very symbolic. First, the Son of Macduff is only recognized as being the son of a thane. So when he is told by his mother in the fourth act that his father is a traitor that means he will grow up to be one too. PUT QUOTE ABOUT BIRD. The son asks his mother what a traitor is and how he will live like a bird and get by without his father. This proves to show how innocent and young the Son of Macduff is, which proves to show that Macbeth's killing him was cruel and inhuman. He impacts the plot greatly because it shows that Macbeth will go to the point of killing children and women. • 35. Theme Of Father And Son Relationships In Night By Elie Wiesel One of the major themes that can be found in Night, by Elie Wiesel, is one of father/son relationships. To quote a father from the book, Stein, "The only thing that keeps me alive is knowing that Reizel and the little ones are still alive." Not all father/son relationships are as good however. Another part of the book reads, "I once saw. . . a boy of thirteen, beat his father for not making his bed properly. As the old man quietly wept, the boy was yelling, 'If you don't stop crying instantly, I will no longer bring you bread. Understood?'" In presenting examples like these, Wiesel communicates a message of the importance of good father/son relationships to his readers. This paper will examine father/son relationships throughout the book, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also several negative father/son relationships found in the book. One such relationship is that of a young pipel, and his father. Wiesel writes, "I once saw one of them, a boy of thirteen, beat his father for not making his bed properly. As the old man quietly wept, the boy was yelling, 'If you don't stop crying instantly, I will no longer bring you bread. Understood?'" This is an example of how life in the concentration camp causes a boy to throw aside his relations for the sake of his own survival. A second example is that of Rabbi Elihou and his son. While Rabbi Elihou cared deeply for his son, the Rabbi's son viewed his father as a burden and left him behind. Shortly following the passage about the Rabbi looking for for his son, Wiesel writes, "But then I remembered something else: his son had seen him losing ground, sliding back to the rear of the column... A terrible thought crossed my mind: What if he had wanted to be rid of his father?" The third example of a poor father/son relationship occurs in the cattle car. A worker throws bread into the cars causing immediate desperate fighting. An old man manages to grab a piece of bread shortly before this passage, "Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying: "Meir, my little Mier! Don't you recognize me... • 37. Father And Son By Li-Young Lee: Poem Analysis The relationship between a father and a son can be expressed in many ways. Many people think of "like father like son" or the silly father trying to make his kids laugh by making a fool of himself. They may also think of a dad as someone whom kids look up to as if he is Superman or the Incredible Hulk. Beyond these stereotypes though, father and son relationships are much more complex. This is illustrated in a contemporary poem by Li–Young Lee about a father and his connection with his son with the use of many different literary devices. The first literary device the poem uses is appealing to inner emotions. The poem begins with the father about to tell his son a story. The man is sad because he cannot come up with a new story, though his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relationship between father and son is highly symbolized by the boy's willingness to hear his father's stories at different ages. When the son is still young, he looks up to his father and wants to hear the stories his father has to tell. This symbolizes the son's love for his father and his wish to maintain a loving relationship with him. The scenario in which the boy is all grown up is one of the father's greatest fears. He is afraid that one day the boy will no longer want to hear his stories and that he will want to leave him. This embodies the idea of the son no longer loving his father and wanting a relationship with him. He then symbolically leaves because the father has nothing left to offer him and he no longer wants to be with him. In continuation, the father thinks of things such as "Are you a god... that I sit mute before you?" and "Am I a god that I should never disappoint?" This symbolizes the anger and frustration that would come out of having lost something or someone dear to the heart. He is thinking about how unfair it is that his son would leave him because he could not come up with what he wanted and that he wasn't good enough for him. This of course is over the topic of telling his child a story, but symbolizes not being good enough in his entire being. He is afraid of not being the man his son thinks he ... "Big Jesse, Little Jesse," tells the story of a twenty–four–year–old father, Jesse, who struggles to retain a father– son relationship with his physically disabled son. Throughout the story, Jesse continuously treats his son, as a boy without a physical disability. His state–of–denial further blinds him of his self–pride that views his son's disability as a public failure. Jesse has the same machismo characteristics of other characters of Brownsville however, Jesse's story is the first time that we see a man become humiliated. His wife's family dislikes him, and even, "He wouldn't like a guy like himself" (Casares 97). The guy is a walking failure. Through Jesse's failings, he creates a machismo persona that entails him to be tough on the outside, but emotionally vulnerable on the inside. Furthermore, Jesse extends his prideful behavior to Little Jesse, so that his son doesn't become a failure like his father. He wants his son to be tough so society will accept him. However, Jesse believes his son's physical condition is what's causing the two of them to be public failures. Jesse gets arrested by police after his brawl at the carnival, which breaks his pride. While Jesse is led out by police (handcuffed), the surrounding crowd publicly humiliates him. He even walks strangely as he lost his shoe during the altercation. Thus, he learns what it must feel like to be in his son's footsteps. The humility his son must continuously endure because of his disablement. Instead of acting tough or defending himself to the surrounding public he just, "lets them keep laughing." • 44. John Cheever Reunion With a society rooted in the traditional roles of the sexes, stereotypes are inevitable in America. The soft, quiet, and pretty woman. The intimidating and masculine man, almost always the breadwinner of the family. The daughter, who exclusively plays with plastic dolls and make–pretend tea parties. In "Reunion" by John Cheever, the focus is on the relationship between father and son. The father portrayed as destructive, aggressive, insensitive, a worn out cliché. The son is the author himself, walking around in the shadow of his father, looking up to him, at first. This relationship between Cheever and his father brings a light to the toxic masculinity portrayed in movies, television shows, and literature. By depicting this false view of what a strong male lead looks like, Cheever helps perpetuate these stereotypes. One of these standards for men is that they are supposed to be emotionless and indifferent, which he embraces in this piece. When the author first sets up this meeting with his father, the reader has the first impression that the father is cold and impersonal with his own son. "... • 46. Father Son Relationships In Things Fall Apart "Every father should remember that one day his son will follow his example instead of his advice." This quote by Charles F Kettering embodies what a father son relationship really is. A father is someone a son looks up to, whether in a good or bad light depends on the situation. Father son relationships can take two paths, one where the son does everything the father hates and the others were the son does everything the father does. Fathers play a major role in their son's life with examples of the relationship found throughout the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe in the characters of Okonkwo, Nwoye and Unoka. For better or worse Unoka played a major role in Okonkwo's life. "It was fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father." (Achebe 13). Throughout the entirety of Okonkwo's life, his relationship with his father would affect his decisions which were always based on the question, "Would my father do this?", and if he would he would do the opposite. Okonkwo viewed his father as a failure and did not want to even be seen as being related to him. (Achebe 13) Okonkwo's constant shows of how a man should be really had the opposite effect on Nwoye. • 48. The Types Of Hostile Sexism In The Gender Equality Movement Hostile sexism exists in about any place one might look. Whether it be in the classroom or in the workplace, sexist people are the culprit in the gender equality movement. However, not all types of sexism are apparent. Benevolent sexism is a passive form of stereotyping people based on their gender (Glick). Surprisingly, this type of passive sexism starts at home. When parents have a baby boy or girl, their future and expectations are already mapped out and planned in the minds of their parents. While it might not be obvious at first, parents do hold different standards and hoped for their children based on their gender. When a girl is born, she is immediately dressed in pink and associated with the delicacy and femininity that comes with being a woman. A mother's expectation of her daughter when she is young are quite superficial. She expects her to be beautiful, kind, and obedient. Most importantly, a mother expects her daughter to be reflection of herself. A father has high hopes for his daughter. He hopes his daughter is a pretty girl who is strong–willed and can take care of herself. Even though mothers and fathers wish for their daughters independence when they are older, they tend to teach them to be dependent as children which rolls over into adulthood. For their sons, mothers raise them early on to be sympathetic and smart. A father wants his son to start off successful and intelligent. Essay on Natalia Ginzburg's The Son of Man Natalia Ginzburg's The Son of Man In "The Son of Man," Natalia Ginzburg asserts that while the war did irreparable psychological damage to its survivors, it also gave the young generation enough strength to confront the stark reality of the precarious nature of human existence. Passionately but concisely, through the use of repetitive imagery, fatalistic tone and lack of classic organization, Ginzburg shows how the war changed the world around Man and how Man changed his perception of the world. Adjectives and nouns: "incurable," "darkest," "insecurity," underscore even more deeply the fatalistic atmosphere she creates. Most sentences are very short as if cutting off any opportunity for a reader to have another opinion. She aims to reach our hearts, not our heads. "We shall not get over this war. It is useless to try." She repeats this thought over and over driving it relentlessly into the reader's mind and leaving no hope for a happy ending. At first sight, the organization of the essay may seem chaotic – deprived of the three classical parts. The Coming Of The Son Of Man Rhetorical Analysis Matthew 24:15–28 follows the verses talking about the birth pangs that took hold of the whole world and leads to the great tribulation that only occurs in Judea (Mitch and Sri, 307). The trials of tribulation are signs of "the coming of the Son of Man" and the last judgment, which is why Matthew has such an urgent tone in this section (Mitch and Sri, 308). When Jesus speaks, he alludes to the "book of Daniel" by using the phrase "desolating abomination" which refers to "an act of sacrilege" that ceases acts of sacrifice in the temple (Mitch and Sri, 308). However, because of God's mercy for the elect, the time will short because not even His followers could survive the wrath of the great tribulation (Mitch and Sri, 309). • 56. Surrealism In Ren Magritte's The Son Of Man In 1964 artist René Magritte painted The Son of Man. In the surrealism period, Magritte oil painted it as a self portrait. Something I questioned during my research, what is surrealism? Merriam– Webster's definition is, "Surrealism: the principles, ideals, or practice of producing fantastic or incongruous imagery or effects in art, literature, film, or theater by means of unnatural or irrational juxtapositions and combinations." Surrealism's goal was to release thought, human experience, and language from the cruel boundaries of rationalism (Mann). When looking at this particular painting, one will see a man in a dirty grey to black overcoat; finishing his outfit with a circular top hat. The background of the painting is a short, cement wall breaking the horizon line with a stormy looking sky and dusty sea. The first thing an inspector's eye goes to is the green apple veiling over the man's face. The apple seems to be floating in mid air. When looking closely, one would see the top of the gentleman's eyes peeking over the apple. Another astute detail in the painting is the man's left arm, which seems to be bent backwards at the elbow. The man in this picture, I feel, is hiding a deep secret. Other than the backwards elbow, his figure seems to be normal on the surface, but, because of his face being covered the assessor wants to see the face. We want to see what is beyond the apple and the reasoning behind his face being covered. When seeing The Son of Man for the first time, I thought that he was an educated man trapped in his own thoughts because the government had mind control over its citizens. I thought this because when I saw an apple, I thought of a teacher. To be a teacher, one must be reputable and educated. I had no idea what time period, country, or situation this painting was composed. In countries other than America, you cannot out smart the government because they have so much control over their citizens. So maybe he knew he was intelligent and could outsmart the government (his eyes peeking over the apple), but chose to rebel by art. Upon completing research, I discovered the biblical meaning behind the apple. The apple or the "forbidden fruit" is the symbol of the original sin, going all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel "Luke, I am Your Father" The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond. Every man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons carried on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This unspoken bond between father and son leads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels a responsibility to care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him. These themes resound in Elie Wiesel's novel Night which was written about Wiesel's experiences in Nazi concentration camps. Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought with tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their fathers as if they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a different concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners died that night from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by saying, "The dead remained in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen guards....Sons abandoned the remains of their fathers without a tear,"(Pg 92). Elie was horrified by this sight and was thankful that his father was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his father passed away that night was because they watched out for one another to make sure they did not pass away. That is an incredible bond. Elie was always watching out for his father, and vice versa; however, others sons wished for their fathers' deaths, as to relieve a dead weight. Some sons abused their fathers in order to show their personal strength. When everyone was being transferred to another concentration camp, the men were not given food. When the train passed by a certain German city, the onlookers threw bread into the train cars. A piece of bread was thrown into Elie's car and it was chaos. There was a certain old ... • 62. Liar Liar Compare And Contrast In Alan McMonagle's Liar Liar, the father's approachable state becomes solely dependable upon his inebriation. As the son finds his father to be a happier man late at night when he gets home intoxicated, this element creates a much stronger bond between the son and his father. This can be seen when they both begin discussing their common passion: Gangster movies. By doing so, the author demonstrates the existing bond between the two main characters. Although the son does not know of his father's inebriation, it is made obvious to the reader that the father is a better, happier, and more approachable person every time that he is not sober. He remembers perfectly the most famous lines and impressions from all of them (McMonagle 54). By doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. The Road The Story Of A Man And His Son In Cormac McCarthy's The Road the story of a man and his son walking down a road in a post– apocalyptic world is told. McCarthy's tale of the end of the world is set in a very realistic and dark setting while using depressing and miserable details about the world around the man and his son and the survivors that they come to encounter. Throughout the book, McCarthy writes about a "fire" that a man and his son are carrying, while they struggle with the notion that they are the "good guys" who are avoiding the "bad guys" in the world, all the while McCarthy leaves out somewhat important details like what caused the end of the world and what his two characters names are. McCarthy consistently writes about "fire" throughout the book, be it both literally and metaphorically. The literal need for fire is essential for the survival of the man and the boy, while the metaphorical "fire" is used as a symbol of wanting to survive this bleak, depressing world. To the boy and the man a real fire is needed to survive because McCarthy writes how it's the beginning of winter and "The few blankets they had would not keep them warm" (McCarthy102). Whereas the metaphorical fire is the motivation to survive, while the man is dying he tells his son "You have to carry the fire...It's real... It's inside you I can see it" (McCarthy279). Fire is used to symbolize survival in both the literal and figurative way. Without the "fire" the man and the boy wouldn't survive by either freezing to death or just ... • 66. Fences Character Analysis The play Fences by August Wilson centers around the character of Troy, a middle–aged African– American man. Troy struggles to keep his family together, mostly as the result of mistakes he has made as a husband and parent. These mistakes reflect certain personality traits that make up Troy's complex character, including his obsession with providing financially, his inability to love his family, and his stubborn insistence on others following the paths he decides for them. These character traits can be explained by the social, racial, and economic climate of the time. Fences takes place in late 1950's Pennsylvania during the beginning of the Civil Rights Era, and Troy's character is shaped by the disappointments that have come along with racism and economic difficulty, along with not being up to date on the changes happening in the Civil Rights movement. Although Troy and his character traits are responsible for the tragic decisions he has made, it is possible that the social context of the time has shaped him into the person he is. One of Troy's major flaws is his obsession with having a practical career and a steady income. He claims that, although he does not "like" his son, he will always work hard to provide for him because "It's my job. It's my responsibility... A man got to take care of his family." (Wilson 38). He cares very deeply that his sons are also able to guarantee income, even if it costs them their passion. Troy disapproves of his son Lyons decision to pursue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She tells about how she started fearing, like anyone having gone through those experiences probably would have, and changed her name and address just to hide from her son who she used to love so much and who is now a powerful governor with several vassals. The difference between personalities is even more highlighted but at the same time they merge into a scary combination. The son who took power over his mother and lied to her has studied and educated himself to rise in the political hierarchy, now taking power over millions of people and possibly having reached his position with the same habit of lying he's had since he was a kid. Krebs liked particularly everything about those girls, still he was only observing. This was his attempt to avoid consequences and talking lies, again.
