Purpose: The purpose of this report is to summarize the findings of Huskie Consulting's analysis
into payments made to personnel working for the City of Chicago. This report analyzes (1) salaries,
(2) overtime pay, (3) reimbursement expenses, and (4) employee indebtedness to the city.
Specifically, this report seeks to identify notable trends and any areas of spending that should be

for full–time employees ("Employee Resource E07–02," 2013). Exhibit 9 shows descriptive
statistics for reimbursement expense per employee. The average total reimbursement expense per
employee was $6,488; while the highest amount reimbursed was $31,627. However, 45.9% of total

These differences in achievement do not in any way result from an inherently lower IQ in
disadvantaged children. Research suggests that, aside from family situation and parental
involvement, the strongest contributing factor may be the neighborhood in which a child grows up.
Indeed, research demonstrates a clear relationship between a better neighborhood and more
favorable educational outcomes. The community environment in which children are raised has a
significant ability to instill in them either positive or negative values.
Unfortunately, many low–income neighborhoods where most public housing units are located
remain far removed from the upper–end school districts that receive greater funding. As a result,
they tend to attract lower–paid and less trained teachers, which results in a lower–quality education.
To determine whether this is the case, the Furman Center conducted a study on New York City's
inner–city school district. First, the study found that these schools consisted of a high concentration
of children from public housing neighborhoods. Most significantly, these schools tended to employ
teachers who had a lower level of experience and training than teachers at average schools across

Law enforcement in Colonial/Frontier America in the 17th and 18th centuries loosely followed the
English policing styles that incorporated "watch and ward", required no training and afforded no
pay. It was considered a civic duty for all citizens and they ultimately became responsible for
community members behaviors (Schmallager, 2009). Sheriff's were appointed by governors and
they were required to make arrests, serve summons, appear in court and collect taxes. They received
higher pay for the more taxes they collected causing the motivation of money to outweigh crime

Two neighborhoods in Chicago Such as Hyde Park and the West side of Chicago are very different

implement Sweden's use of trash as a source of energy, enforce recycling laws, and create a greener
lifestyle. One way the United States can improve on its sustainability is by using their trash as a
source of energy. Sweden's waste to energy program generates about twenty percent of the country's
district heating. This also generates electricity for a quarter million homes. The incineration process
is very efficient at creating heat and energy (Smith 1). In 2012 four percent of Swedish garbage is
put into landfills, in 2013 only one percent of Sweden's trash is put into landfills, half of the waste is
recycling and forty–nine percent is burned in waste to energy plants (Jones 1). Power plants have
more than doubled the amount of energy produced since 1985 (Schonning 2). It cost $286,000,000
to buy a waste to energy plant and the revenue is $36,000,000 to $70,000,000; the plant will pay

Today, public safety is a major concern for many American citizens. Since September 11, 2001, the
United States has changed drastically in terms of public safety. On the morning of that fateful day
(referred to as 9/11), 19 terrorists hijacked four airplanes and deliberately crashed two of those
planes directly into the World Trade Center buildings (the "Twin Towers") in New York City (NYC).
These attacks, led by the Al Qaeda terrorist group, killed nearly 3,000 people. As a result the

The site has been in public use at least back to the 1860's when it was a popular day trip for
Atlantans who wished to visit Ponce de Leon Springs for their reputed health benefits. The springs
on the site were named by Atlanta physician, Dr. Henry L. Wilson, for Juan Ponce de Leon, of
Fountain of Youth fame, and it is from these springs, rather than the Spanish explorer, that Ponce de
Leon Avenue takes its name. Over time additional attractions were built at the site to capitalize on
the popularity of the springs and in 1903 the construction of a true amusement park was begun.
Ponce de Leon Park remained a local attraction through the early 1920's.
In 1924, the park now closed, Sears Roebuck and Company chose the site for their Southeastern

For the most part humans are all born in the same fashion, they have opposable thumbs, a pair of
hands, a pair of legs, a brain, and a heart. Looks can be deceiving however, not all infants are
created equal. Statistically speaking, the overwhelming majority of the seven billion humans on
earth will pass away as a member of the same socioeconomic class they began. In fact, society
predicates itself on living a better life than their family who came before. Society takes part in a
never ending race to further itself on a socioeconomic level from the generation before knowing full
well that the majority will not achieve such goal. That in itself is a testament to how difficult the
task of altering identity is. Malcolm Gladwell's Power of Context echoes many of the same
progressive principles preached in the early twentieth century, he believes external factors such as
the aspects of environment are the greatest determinants of identity. Barbara Fredrickson argues in
her book Love 2.0, that change comes from within. Frederickson believes that biochemical
alterations of the human body can occur by increasing "loving potential" (119). An increase of such

The city is a vital, breathing, and often vibrant life force to its metropolitan area, region, state, and
country. Cities, within the United States function typically as the jobs, cultural, and educational
centers of their region. They tend to be more diverse than their surrounding communities, and they
often face sets of problems that the suburbs and rural areas do not deal with. Some of the main
issues that will face and shape cities over the next ten years include gentrification, environmental

The Marta train stations have been one of the most entertaining parts of the day. I chose to write
about the Marta train ride, and what happens on the stations because I ride Marta about twice a day,
besides weekends, and since I spend a decent amount of time traveling with Marta I have noticed
plenty of things. I noticed things from how people communicate to people not caring about the rules,
and other things. The idea of Marta, in my head, was based off of television shows about other trains
and subways. Television shows tend to make subways and trains seem dirty, tight spaced, and have
rude and disgusting passengers. There always seem to be the people who are loud and disrespects
other people's personal space. My idea of Marta was pretty far off from what Marta is really like;
however, my ideas were not completely off. I observed Marta by observing people who were
waiting at the station for a train, and by observing people on the train. The train ride observation was
from Doraville to Five Point, which is eleven stations total. Marta is a very interesting place to use
for travels, but the ride is different in the mornings compared to the afternoons; however, Marta
