2. Blink 182 (Take off your pants and
jacket)
⢠This is the digipak for Blink 182âs fourth studio album take off your
pants and jacket to make the album more desirable to their fans
the band decided to use three different CD designs so that their
target audience would buy the album multiple times the three
images on the CD are a plane (take off) a jacket and jeans each
image represents part of the albums title. Each album gave fans
two CDs one with the songs the other was a bonus DVD, the front
panel of the album shows cartoon renditions of the band playing
their instruments, bright colors are used on the front cover which
breaks the convention as most rock albums use dark colors the
song booklet follows convention more as it has a black background
with the only colors being the colors of the CDs.
⢠The poster for take off your pants and jacket is very similar to the
albums lyric booklet and three CDs showing there is a reoccurring
theme to this album the colors images and layout also show that
the poster is linked to the album as the plan the jeans and the
jacket are all exactly the same as the disks the colors are similar as
they have been made darker to stand out more on the poster and
the band name and album title are the same .
3. The Gorillaz (Demon Days)
⢠The album artwork of the gorillaz depicts each animated member of the band in
their each individual square each square is the same length color and size making it
seem as each member is valued equally until it is opened to reveal a larger image of
the lead singer of the band perhaps connoting that he is the leader of the band.
⢠The bottom two images depict little images of the band as well as the track titles
and numbers perhaps to draw in an audience as they would be interested to see
what scenarios that the band choose to use in their music videos.
⢠The poster is a direct copy of the front of the al bum with each of the band
members encased in a square with the band name written out in graffiti possibly to
imply that they are new and rebellious the title on the other is written in neat clean
font so that people can see the title clearly
4. Foo Fighters
⢠This is the digipak for foo fighters first album which is also called foo fighters the
digipak is quite plain perhaps to suggest that it isn't the album cover you should be
interested in but the music this is shown for the whole album as in the first image
is plain white except for the four images on the front which may catch some
peoples attention. The second image is of the back of one of the band members
heads with the bands logo tattooed on the back of his neck this is to highlight the
bands symbol and to make sure it remains in the target audiences mind, the third
image lists the track list again it is plain except for two small images, the fourth
image is of the band playing their instruments this is stretched over two boxes
perhaps to give the band a more professional and unique image the final box
houses the CD it is quite colorful with a blue swirl going round the middle of the
case.
⢠the poster for the image is also very plain depicting each band member as with
the fun album no band member is highlighted as the front runner meaning that
each member is valued equally.
5. Fun. (Some nights)
fun Are an indie pop band that shot rainbows to fame with their
single âSome Nights â. The album of the same name has a very
distinctive style of their digipak artwork, which makes Funs.
Digipak look more striking and original so it with monochrome
pictures in the background slashed with bright red as in stands out
indie pop albums use bright colors for out the digipak also uses
images of the band members taking a as they were a relatively
unknown when this album was released and also as it is a
convention of indie pop albums to have images of the band on the
front, although none of the band members are highlighted as the
front man showing that all band members are valued equally. The
front of Funs. Digipak shows a robotic reaching for the title of the
album. The color scheme remains throughout the digipak with the
track listing on the back being encased in red or white boxes with a
monochrome background the inside cover shows a picture of the
band all wearing black suits none of the members are highlighted
as the front runner showing that all band members are equal the
forth image shows a voyeuristic woman this image may have been
used to attract Funs. Main target audience which is teenage boys
the same image that was on the inside cover was used to house
the cd only this time it is the image is in red which follows the
color scheme the final image shows two people walking on the
beach.
The poster follows the same color scheme as the digipak.
6. Rihanna (Loud)
⢠The cover for Rihannaâs album Loud follows the conventions of a normal
pop artist with a close up of Rihannaâs face. This is because they want to
use her face as the selling point of the album. Since she is well known if you
spot her face in the store you will immediately know whoâs album it is and if
youâre a fan you would buy it. The use of bright colours works well for the
cover as itâs a pop artist and you get the feel that is a cheerful, bright album
which would want to make you buy it. The typography for her name is quite
simple, her name is very small at the top and not so easy to read however
because you can see her face, her name wouldnât really matter as
everybody knows the artist because of the image. Making the word âLOUDâ
larger than the artists name was a smart idea and it because people relate
the loud things to something big and also the albums name is more
important than the artists. The back is different and doesnât follow
conventions since it doesnât show a track list or any information. This could
be her trying to innovate the way digipaks are created. The inside also
doesnât have any information just another picture of her lying in roses. The
colour of the roses link well with her hair and this could have been used to
make people begin to relate roses to her whenever they see them. The CDâs
again doesnât have any information but just bright colours which link well to
the genre of music. The poster has a bit more information than the album
cover this is probably because more people will see the poster and will
need to know what itâs about. Similar to the cover it just has a picture of her
on it. This is again to sell her image as it is a well known one. The text for
her name is bigger but still not so easy to read. I like the idea of using the
artist as a selling point because it works well and can get you more sales.
