1. The Veldt, By Ray Bradbury
When walking through a college campus in 2016, a person can see how much technology consumes
a peoples life. One can see people texting on their phones, riding on hover boards, and using iPads
to order food at a restaurant. What used to be inconceivable in the 1950s is now the norm 66 years
later The science fiction short story "The Veldt," by Ray Bradbury, was written in the 1950s, yet
gives the reader perspective on the dangers of advancing technology as a prophecy of our future. In
"The Veldt," the two parents, Lydia and George, are affluent and spoil their children, Peter and
Wendy with technology, which ultimately leads to the parents' death. Using Lois Tyson's critical
theory of structuralism, this paper will give perspective on the science fiction aspect of the story
described through the setting.
While analyzing the story, the reader can get a sense of the family's wealth. They live in a lavish
home that does everything for them. The house cooks, cleans, and transports each person to
whichever room they would like to go to. In the story in says:
They walked down the hall of their soundproofed Happylife Home, which had cost them thirty
thousand dollars installed, this house which clothed and fed and rocked them to sleep and played
and sang and was good to them. Their approach sensitized a switch somewhere and the nursery light
flicked on when they came within ten feet of it. Similarly, behind them, in the halls, lights went on
and off as they left them behind, with a

3. Satire Essay On Texting And Driving
Texting and Driving Deej Logan was just like any normal high school girl. She woke up on her first
day of school and combed her hair, picked out the "perfect" outfit and headed out the door. What she
didn't know is that after that day nothing would be the same. Nothing that day seemed to be going
right. At school drama was swarming all around her, not exactly what she hoped the first day would
be like. By the time the last bell of the day rang she was more than happy to get out of that school.
She drove home as quickly as she could but as soon as she got home she realized that she had
forgotten to pick up her sisters. "Great." She thought sarcastically as she sat back down in her car
and drove off. Just then she pulled out her phone to message one of her friends about her awful day.
That one decision changed everything. Before she had a chance to send the message Deej veered off
into oncoming traffic and was killed on impact. Today Deej's dad travels across the country,
speaking in classrooms and gymnasiums educating highschoolers about the risks and dangers
involved texting while driving. He never imagined that something like this could happen to someone
so close to him. His plan however is to educate as man kids as he possibly can in hopes of saving
even one life. Anything he can do to prevent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simply putting down your phone and paying attention to the road is a decision that not only could
save the life of a driver but could save a whole family and community a whole lot of hurt. At any
given time during the day approximately 800,000 people across the United States are on their phone
while driving, which explains why texting is the number one distraction for teens across the country
(Don't Text and Drive–Volunteer Society of America). However, we can change this. Educating
teens about the true risks of texting and driving just might save a life. Any text can

5. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Taylor Swift's Song Blank Space
In musical superstar Taylor Swift's music video for her song "Blank Space," she is portraying herself
as the high maintenance and dramatic girlfriend that the media believes she is. The speaker of this
text is the media's perception of Taylor Swift and her message is about the disconnect between who
Swift really is and who the media sees her as. I believe Swift has two purposes for this music video.
One is for her character in the music video to warn her audience about the type of love that boys
want, and the other for real life Taylor herself to poke holes into the media's concept of her love life.
The video is filled with satire and paradoxes to convince us that our idea of Taylor Swift is not an
accurate opinion of her. At the very beginning of the video, we see a young man get out of a car in
front of a massive mansion that appears to be Swift's home. The car he gets ... Show more content

She says, "Oh my God, look at that face, you look like my next mistake, love's a game, want to
play?" Starting out with "Oh my God, look at that face" she is telling us that this character is very
superficial and is only looking at the outside appearance of the young man who is visiting her
mansion. "You look like my next mistake, love's a game, want to play?" is implying that this guy is
just another object to be had by Swift and another mistake in a long series of mistakes and that love
for her is just a game, not something to be taken seriously. This is exactly the persona that the media
portrays Swift as. She has always been seen as someone who moves on from guy to guy like the
whole idea of love is just for fun without consideration of the other persons' feelings. This idea
comes from her relationships with other celebrities and lyrics in her music that go through many of
her relationship troubles. Although this is who she appears to be in real life, she is taking that idea of
herself and exaggerating it in the

7. The Burdensome Issue Of Social Media
Jessica Lardenoit
AP English Literature

Satire
The most burdensome issue society faces today results from our obsessive need to be connected to
electronics and social media. This issue stems into many aspects of our daily lives. What was once
thought to be an exciting advancement has now caused a myriad of problems in society. Today's
generation is faced with the rising levels of obesity, lack of focus, poor communication skills, which
in turn has created a far less intellectual society. With the internet, smart phones, video games,
movies, television and numerous other technological advancements improving daily, the youth in
our society are becoming corrupt. They are becoming desensitized, uninspired, and underqualified.
We are shaping the newest generations to become dull robots who just conform to the latest, greatest
fads.
Social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, are becoming tools to drain the
intelligence of adolescences until they only converse with instant messaging lingo. It is an
instrument for teenagers to become secluded from society where they only spend time in their rooms
and online. With the pressure from their peers to update their statuses every few minutes, teenagers
focus more on what 140 character message they will send out next, instead of what school work they
have. They care more about what selfie to post instead of spending valuable time with their families.
Television and video games have sucked
