The True Language Of Love
The True Language of Love
When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within the
stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important
within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two
different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are
very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of
language are Marie de France's Lanval and Margery Kempe's The Book of Margery Kempe.
Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that
the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic.
Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ's love for his
people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride.
According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian
Bride, but is also an allusion to "the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church",
and even further, "Christ and every believing soul (Pinto)." Using this explanation, not only is the
language in this biblical book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the
language of love and the language of religion. Using this philosophy about the
sensuality of the

Analysis of Kanye West's All Falls Down Essay

Personal Context Essay: All Falls Down
Kanye West produced the popular song "All Falls Down" in 2004. He is well known for creating
many wonderful tunes but this one stands out above the rest. While his other songs contain bass–
heavy instrumentals and contain lyrics about money and women, this one is strays away from the
previous structures. "All Falls Down" catches the attention of youth, with its mellow melody, to
send a strong message concerning the overemphasis on money and education and how it can be
harmful through the lyrics. The issues contained in the message are highly focused on the idea that
money and education will not always be there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Artists tend to showcase a slower tempo for the song if it dealt with negative views of drugs because
it is important to raise the awareness. Kanye tries to usher the ideas that money and education
shouldn't be the only objectives of life, so it shouldn't be so important. Because it is unimportant,
why express it with such detail in a slower pace? The music and lyrics therefore are contrasted with
a purpose. The tempo is created with a bass guitar and drums. Add these to the already established
acoustic guitar and female vocals and the beat sounds very complex. This suggests that the issues
are also complex; they cannot be easily understood and solved. The lyrics of a song often have no
substance and a clear example would be any Britney Spears song. The lyrics of "All Falls Down"
are very deep. They talk about the ideal situation in life; We should go to school, get a good job and
make money to buy what we want. The lyrics then ask, what if this doesn't happen? This is prevalent
in the first verse. "She has no idea what she doing in college. That major that she majoring, it don't
make no money." The song questions these everyday values because we focus so much on these
things, we don't realize there are more important things in life such as life itself. Even Kanye admits
that he spent money at Jacob's Jewellery store before he thought about a house. "I went to Jacob

Essay On Cherub Rock And To Forgive
The songs Cherub Rock and To Forgive by Smashing Pumpkins are drastically different at first
glance. Some may think that the only similarity between the two songs is their artist However as one
moves through each song one can see how each song can be connected by either similar lyrics,
ideas, structure, or styles of repetition.
As we start on the song Cherub Rock from the album Siamese Dream, let's look to the beginning.
The start of the songs features upbeat guitars that quickly mix with a dirty rock rhythm, contrasting
To Forgive. The songs lyrics start off by saying "freak out and give in. Doesn't matter what you
believe in". Given the rest of the songs lyrics this could be referring to blending in and doing what
someone else wants due to the lyrics, "be somebody's fool this year. 'Cause they know. Who is
righteous, what is bold". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the song contains the final repetitions of "let me out" Corgan goes on to state " I know, I
know, I know. Should have listened when I was told" furthering the claim that parts of the song is
about giving in to what someone else wants.
To Forgive features a different style of repetition that parallels the previous lyrics. The lyrics "I
knew my loss before I even learned to speak" and "but I played along to my birthday song" are very
similar to previous lyrics, basically repeating the pre chorus. This could be done to emphasize ideas
without repeating the pre chorus verbatim. The song then goes on to repeat the chorus once more.
The feelings of loss of control, emptiness, or childhood sadness are expressed in Cherub Rock and
To Forgive are not positive feelings. These feeling cause each song to have a similar message and
tone to one another, without the listeners realization. Even though the songs are pretty different
overall this tone causes the songs to have a coherent

Run' By George Strait: Music Analysis
Artists write or compose things for a specific reason, usually this is to convey a feeling to the
listener or reader. When words are placed with music, it can change how a person hears or thinks of
a song. In the song "Run" by George Strait he creates a feeling of desperation and longing not only
with his lyrics, but also with the melody that goes along with it. Music is powerful, and it can
change your attitude towards something just by the sound and tone of music. By adapting a song
into a letter, one can either change the meaning of the whole song or allow it to give the reader the
same feeling as before. I changed George's song into a letter to show how things can be different or

George Straits daughter was killed in a car crash in 1986 when she was just 13. When most people
see this song they immediately think that it is a love song and in a way, it is, but I think that this
could maybe not be a song addressed to a significant other but rather to his daughter. This could be a
possibility in his intention for this song. Yes, the song may sound worldly when he is telling her how
to get to him, but when he tells her "cut a path across the blue skies, straight in a straight line you
can't get here fast enough." Maybe he is trying to talk to his daughter again and wants her to
seemingly fly down from heaven to him so he can see her once more. This would also explain why
he misses her so much, maybe it's his little girl who died who he is writing to. In many of his other
songs George talks about Dallas and always sings about Dallas, perhaps in this song when he talks
about her leaving Dallas to return to him he is thinking of Dallas as his form of heaven. So, he is
begging his daughter to come from Dallas which is his representation of heaven, to come back to
him if at all possible. This is the only variation I can think of for the lyrics: instead of the thought of
it being toward his wife or lover it may be for his daughter who passed away in a car

The Studies Of Music And How It May Not Help The Alzheimer...
In order to understand how the studies of music and how it may or may not help the Alzheimer's
disease (AD) one would need the background of it. AD is a progressive neurological disease that
leads to deterioration in cognitive abilities. People with AD encounter a progressive decline in their
neurological capabilities, which manifest in language deficits, among other cognitive difficulties.
The main failures in speech include naming difficulties, verbal fluency deficit, comprehension
problems, and deterioration of spontaneous speech. People with AD tend to have discourse deficits,
which include empty phrases, indefinite words, and repetitions. The speech of a person with the
deficits is difficult for an interlocutor to follow. Thus, theses progressive language failures can lead
people with AD to isolation. Due to their progressive inability to communicate, people with AD
need interventions that address their communication needs and help prevent social isolation (Dass,
A., & Amir, D. 2014).
Increased social interaction can improve quality of life by enabling people with AD to remain
socially engaged. Communication trainings include active instruction such as role playing and
analyzing video observations of conversations with people with AD. Computer based systems are
also used, providing multimedia stimuli. Reminiscence therapy uses the intact long–term memory
that enabling people with AD to engage in a conversation about their past experiences (Dass, A., &

Personal Experience: The Musical Talents of the John...
On the 17th of April 2014, at the Hobart City hall, Tasmanian audiences witnessed
the musical talents of the John Butler Trio. This Australian band was originally
formed in 1998, and since then has gained great international success. Since the
release of their latest album this year, titled Flesh and blood, the John Butler Trio
have undertaken a national tour around Australia, to showcase their new work.
Upon arriving at the venue at 7pm. I quickly found a seat with a good view of the
stage and sat down with anticipation for the concert to begin. After waiting for around
45 minutes my excitement began to fade and I soon grew impatient and tiered of
listening to strange trance music that was played over the speakers throughout the
venue. After waiting further 20 minutes the supporting act came out to play their
set. This act comprised of Mama Kin, who is John Butler's wife, and some other
musicians that were not introduced. Her performance consisted of songs from her
new album The Magician's Daughter, with her set being comprised of eight songs,
including: Rescue, One Too Many and Give Me A Reason. Mama Kin's voice was
tender to listen to and through out every song she poured both heart and soul, with
every minute of her performance showing her passion for her craft. Mama Kin's
stage presence was strong and relaxed. Her performance was also entertaining
between songs, as she put both the audience and her self at ease by telling some

Essay Manipulation of Lyrics in Shakespeare's As You Like It
Manipulation of Lyrics in As You Like It
While it is a comedy of the turmoil of love and the experimentation with gender roles and identity,
William Shakespeare's As you Like It is a historical preservation of Renaissance music. The play is
fraught with spontaneous song and poetry, yet Shakespeare strategically manipulates these musical
elements. Specifically, the lyrics and poetry of the play function to establish a soundtrack and a
direct appeal to their Elizabethan audience, while providing Shakespeare with a valuable shorthand
for character development.
It is necessary to understand that music in Shakespeare's time functions as a complete renovation of
sound, voice, and function. Paul Brian emphasizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

But winter and rough weather (1–8).
While this song obviously functions to contrast the sharp melancholy of Jacques, Long suggests its
worthwhile placement on As You Like It's imaginary soundtrack: "Its subject and structure suggest a
song suitable for singing by a convivial group. It is, perhaps, a drinking song appropriate for a group
of mock foresters to sing or to enjoy as listeners" (143). This incorporation of a song that fits into
the popular communal genre while countering the woeful tone of Jacques is a rather cinematic
choice on Shakespeare's part. It likens him to almost a film director who makes choices on effective
musical selections.
We also must notice Shakespeare's choice of borrowed lyrics when considering the music of the
play as a soundtrack. Much like today's film moguls, Shakespeare seeks to include familiar lyrics to
attract attention to his work. In Act 3, scene 3, Touchstone spouts a fragmented verse: O, sweet
Oliver/O, brave Oliver/Leave me not behind thee [...] (82–84).
Pattison acknowledges that this fragment belongs to a popular Renaissance poem:

the productions during that time. The well defined roles are used to complement each other and

there is a section in the reading that distinguish the most renown designers of their respective era.
Something that was notorious was that white performers used black masks to simulate black

certain ethnic groups from casting for shows. Issues related to immigrants and ethnic identification
were deeply rooted and had effect in the shows that were produced during that era. A notorious form

How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon
Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar. Toni Morrison,
author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of
the novel, Morrison's use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance,
Not Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city
allowed, hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the
name "Blood Bank" was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses this name to
expose the differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In addition to physical places,
Morrison also picked the names of each character intentionally. ... Show more content on

From the onset on the novel, Morrison is able associate Guitar with the theme of unattainability
through the ""...contest, in a store down home in Florida" (45). Guitar "saw [the guitar] when [his]
mother took [him] downtown with her. [He] was just a baby...[he] cried for it, they said. And always
asked about it" (45). Guitar's name originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to
that fact that Guitar is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the
unattainability of the guitar by explaining "It was one of those things where you guess how many
beans in the big glass jar and you win a guitar" (45). This game adds an additional barrier between
Guitar and the guitar in the store because it makes the guitar appear as a "trophy" to winning the
contest. This connects to the idea of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of
winning or obtaining money, trophies, or pride. Just like how the death of his own father makes him
unattainable Guitar choses to go to war with racism. Guitar notices racism present in society
"...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro man is killed by whites and nothing is done about it
by their low and their courts..." (154). Guitar tries to end racism and reach equality be joining the
Seven Days Society which "...selects a similar victim at random, and they execute him or her in a
similar manner if they can" (154). Morrison uses her major theme of racism to show the significance
of Guitar's name as he joins the Seven Days Society attempting to reach justice by killing white
people when they kill other black people. Morrison shows that Guitar is fighting in an unwinnable
war; Guitar keeps fighting anyways (1). Deeper in the novel, Guitar's "...commitment to political
justice goes awry: in seeking a death for Hagar's death, presumably, Guitar "sacrifices" the innocent

Songs Break Up Songs
Break–Up Songs Throughout Different Genres
What does Paris by The Chainsmokers, Say Something by A Great Big World, and Here Comes
Goodbye by Rascal Flatts all have in common? They are break–up songs. Each in their own way, all
of these songs are about pain and sadness caused by break–ups. Some of these songs are meant to
cause an already sad person to cope with their sadness by pushing them farther into "The Abyss". A
few are meant to touch on the happier memories of the relationship giving someone hope that they
will love again. All of these songs, through their lyrics, structure, and rhythm, are all meant to cope
with a person's sadness that results from a break–up. Paris by the Chainsmokers is a song that
reflects on the happy side of a relationship that is rarely seen in break–ups. The song is essentially
the writer remembering a relationship with fondness. It tells the tale of two young lovers on their
own and in love who eventually break apart. It also touches on happy memories like the lyrics "We
were staying in paris,/ to get away from your parents" (Chainsmokers, 1–2). By highlighting the
highs instead of lows, it shows the listener that they should not be sad about their loss but happy that
they ever got to experience the joy and happiness that most relationships provide. Almost no
relationships end with happiness but this song shows that it is possible to think happily of a
relationship that has ended. This song also uses higher pitched, electronic music to

would rely on their religion to help them survive. But would slaves be able to find spiritual comfort

Perhaps more than even giving the reader a clue about what is to come, Morrison gives readers this
scene in an attempt to pique interest in the meaning of words. Perhaps Morrison is showing readers
that just because a word has meant one thing in the past, it is not precluded from taking on other
meanings as well. For the readers of Song, that is exactly what happens.
In Morrison's story, the name Pilate loses its original meaning of Christ killer and gains the meaning
of one who has control of the direction of her life. Pilate is a seeker. She asks, "What do I need to
know to stay alive?" and "What is true in the world?" (149). Dominant culture might only need to
ask about truth. Minority culture asks about survival. Because of her gift for penetrating to the heart
of her own experience, Pilate becomes a person who can guide others.
The most prominent of all the uses of biblical names in the story is the title itself, Song of Solomon.
Throughout the novel, a non–minority reader, recalling the biblical Song of Songs or Song of

poetry. However, a reader who, because of the title, is expecting a sensual love story will be

journey from a child to an adult and a nobody to a celebrity is the primary focus throughout most of
his songs. The journey of himself through the songs is what makes the lyrics interesting. The general

Analysis Of The Poem ' Songwriting For Under Achievers '
Songwriting for Under Achievers I chose to research information on how to write music because I
have always wanted to write my own music. I chose this topic because I knew I would learn a lot
from it and that it would help me in my future. I wanted to learn how to write great lyrics for my
songs and make melodies so that I may perform them to an audience. I had to research the different
ways of writing lyrics, how to come up with a title for your song, how to make a melody, and how to
apply chords to that melody. I have learned an easy way to make songs of your own so that they
seem professional but anybody could do it. This is the basics of Songcraft. In songcraft, the first
thing that you must think of should be the lyrics to your song. You may not have to use lyrics in
your song which does not change anything but most modern music these days have lyrics to express
the mood of the song more. If you want lyrics in your song or songs then the first step is to
brainstorm. Choose a topic that you want your song to cover and let your imagination run wild.
Never hesitate in writing down the first words that come to mind if you do then that is your first
mistake. Lyrics aren't what somebody has just chosen from a book or poem they are applied in the
way that the artist imagines them not how she/he wants them to sound. When I say this I do not
mean that they never fix their lyrics but that they know there meaning in the song from the lyrics
even if the lyrics do not make sense

comes out of leaving a relationship. Their lyrics not only contain symbols and imagery, but also both
share their different views of ending a relationship. Shawn's song "Stitches," talks about a teenage
boy getting over his first breakup verses Taylor's song "Clean," goes in the direction of a girl that

In the chorus of the song he says, "And now that I'm without your kisses, I'll be needing stitches".
What he means, is that it takes time to get over a relationship that once was passionate, but now
broken. That once burning with love feeling that he had turned into a broken heart that's getting
mended over time. Another line in the song, in which he says "Needle and the thread, gotta get you
out of my head". He says this line a number amount of times throughout the entire song. He's trying
to get over the entire relationship, but keeps remembering the good things that came out of the
relationship. The way he set up his song one can already tell the emotional pain he has probably
gone through. The emotion came throughout the song when he fused a broken relationship with the
act of stitching. Relationships start to get stitched up piece by piece until the pain of a broken heart
is forgotten. While in Taylor's song "Clean," her perspective comes through the various references of
water. From the start of the song, "The drought was the worst, When the flowers that we'd grown
together died of thirst." Which automatically references water, but also that the relationship she once
had died out like flowers dying of thirst. She references relationships fizzling out, to the point of not
having the same feelings anymore. These two songs illustrate the anger and sadness that one goes

Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin: Song Analysis
The song "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" by Sly and the Family Stone is a catchy song
that represents the move to a brand new style of music. It represents a style of music that
incorporates both R&B and rock elements. In "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", the band
incorporates aspects of R&B by having the entire song built over a repeating riff in the bass. This
repeating riff in the bass, according to chapter 9 of the book establishes "the song's rhythmic feel or
'groove'." This is considered an element of the R&B genre because R&B is known to have repetitive
rhythms in their songs. The aforementioned aspect in the song is significant because the repeating

"Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" contains extended instrumental solos which I believe is
a common trait for psychedelic rock. Although the beat structure of the song is fairly simple in
comparison to many psychedelic rock songs in my opinion, it does contain creative lyrics. The
creative lyrics is something that is an important element of rock. The extended instrumental solos
and creative lyrics in the song are significant because the extended solos make the songs contain an
upbeat tempo while the creative lyrics shows the song has an ulterior meaning to it. Combining both
elements from R&B and rock is significant in general because it creates a new musical style or

The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon
People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based
on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family
member. Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical
characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah,
Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they
are all biblical names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni
Morrison's Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth
century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the
characters' personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their
biblical names. Reba, Milkman's mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the
Bible, as their names are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and
devotion to her son Jacob, whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her
relationship to one of her sons and also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. In Song
of Solomon, Reba cherishes her daughter Hagar, and makes sacrifices to please her, one of which
includes the donation of her diamond ring, which she miraculously wins when she walks into a

The Song Structure And Analysis Of Mystery Song 3
At first listen, Mystery Song Three was unlike anything I had ever heard. I knew it was loud, I knew
it was aggressive, and that was about it. We were challenged with analyzing a mystery song by
defining its structure, basic description, expression, and historical and cultural context. Even without
knowing anything about the song, you can find these elements just by listening to it. 2. Song
Structure A song's structure can be best described as its organization. I found that Mystery Song
Three is a ABABC modified verse chorus form. This means there was five vocal sections with three
different types of sections–A the verse, B the chorus, C the conclusion. For clarification I have
named each of the five vocal sections as follows: vocal section 1–A1, vocal section 2–B1, vocal
section 3–A2, vocal section 4 –B2, vocal section 5–C. The song began with an instrumental
introduction. At first, there was only the cymbals playing but very quickly the texture thickened
when guitar and drums came in. These were both aggressive and fast paced. Section A1 was the first
verse section of the song. Since this was the first time that the vocalist came in we learned that the
vocalist was male with a rough sound and midrange voice. The instrumentation of this section
featured a repeating guitar riff and drum sounds. Overall, this section had an angry sound
emphasized with swear words and angry lyrics, had a heavy texture created by the guitar and drums,
and had a fast tempo. This section was then followed by an instrumental section to create a
transition from A1 to B1. Section B1 was the first chorus. This section also featured a fast tempo,
aggressive guitar part, and percussion. However, this section had slower vocals than A1.
Additionally, new vocal techniques were used such as blues influenced slides on the lyric "No". Also
the rhythm changed which emphasized the lyric "burnt in to my skin" to further relate the anger in
the song. After another instrumental break, A2 verse began. The melody of A1 repeats with a very
similar instrumental part. However, the lyrics from A1 are different, and a "No" shout is added
differing more from A1. This further communicates and anger and frustration expression in the
song. Following an

The preceding poem, written by William Shakespeare, tells of a lover wanting to give all their love
to their lover. Similarly, the writer of Songs of Solomon tells of giving all the love to their lover.
Through this writing, different aspects of the Songs will be addressed, along with the defense of the
various forms of the Songs. Finality will show how the Songs fit with the church of today.
Song of Solomon – Brief list of the different ways the Song is Interpreted
Kathryn Harding, "Biblical Interpretation, 'I sought him but I did not find him': The Elusive Lover in
the Song of Songs,'" sources several scholars regarding the Songs of Solomon. These sources give
an insight into their interpretation of the Songs. One source focuses on the male lead of the Song
and the aspect of power from Cheryl Exum who discussed, "the male protagonist's concerns about
the power dynamics between himself and his lover in the Song; in her totality he finds her
overwhelming, even intimidating, and so he fragments her, considers her little–by–little, piece–by–
piece, in his waṣfs."
Subsequently, another source emphasizes how can one have sexual intimacy if they are apart from
one another. This is referenced from the writing by Edward Burne–Jones who states:

The Suburbs Analysis
On the 22nd of November 2010, critically acclaimed director and screenwriter Jonze (2011) released
the music video for the Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs", the albums titular song. A long shot of a gang
of adolescents cycling lackadaisically through the streets of a suburban setting accompany the
introduction to the song. The song begins will a nonchalant harpsi–piano. The simple and
preponderantly major chord structure rings pleasantly through the verse, but contains a slight
dissonance on the second and third chords; Am and E. This dissonance gives is used to great effect
to make the listener feel slightly apprehensive. The slow tempo of the cycling reflects the songs 118
BPM timing respectively. One of the youthful figures has donned a ... Show more content on

These two factors in turn gives the song a slightly menacing feel. Lyrically the chorus section is
slightly more cryptic than the rest of the songs words. Butler and Chassagne's (2010) "Sometimes I
can't believe it, I'm movin' past the feeling" can be subjectively perceived that the narrators have the
desire to recollect their youth, but alas; it is becoming much more laborious to trace their memories.
It can also be perceived that over time, rebellion becomes more and more meaningless. Upon the
arrival of the second verse, a droning slide guitar sound, drenched in reverb permeates the ears,
almost reminiscent of a siren. Butler and Chassagne's (2010) "Kids wanna be so hard" opens the
second verse. The imagery shows the youths play fighting with air guns, and at one point, one of the
teenagers receives some hard looking blows to the chest from a friend's shoe, but remains smiling.
At pubescent ages, youth culture shows that people want to be seen as an adult and grown up.
Elkind (2007) states "Competition at home is one of the most obvious pressures on contemporary

She knew she was getting herself into a lot of trouble, but she ended up where she wanted to be. A
song that can describe her personality is I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz. Her determination is
heavily described: "Well, I won't give up on us, even if the skies get rough, I'm giving you all my
love, I'm still looking up" (Mraz song lyrics). When the lyrics describe that the person won't give up
on us, Aggie is not giving up on the family. The skies in the lyrics describe the searching and
determination for the girls. When Wil was searching for Elle and Skye, Aggie was at a hotel looking
up at the sky to reassure herself that Wil will find her girls. This song simply concludes that they
will not give up during the hard times and will put love into everything that happens. Elle has grown

Theme Of Names In Song Of Solomon

Song of Solomon Names Names are apart of all cultures and have major significance to the
recipients of the name and further to the society as a whole. People are identified by the name
provided to them at birth. This such name can be derived from a variety of different origins,
depending heavily upon what ethnicity, or culture the child is born into. A parent provides their child
with a name that they believe has some kind of significance, or a deeper symbolic meaning to their
family. Throughout one's life, they might acquire a number of nicknames. Nicknames can reflect
how others perceive a certain person, or even how that person views himself, inferring either a
positive or negative connotation. In Songs of Solomon, many characters have names that provide a
deeper insight on their true identity in the novel. Whether the character is trying to escape the reality
of their name or not, the name itself still establishes truth behind theirs actions and who they came
from. Names in Song of Solomon ultimately establish a character's behavioral traits and cultural
background, advancing the direction of the novel.
In the novel, many of the characters are provided with names of either biblical or mythological
descent. These such names provide insight as to the identity of the character in the novel and further
the purpose of the character in the progression of the plot. Many of the children's names were
chosen at birth by sticking a pin into the

The Effects Of Parental Species On Aberrant Playback
While parental species responded more to conspecific songs than heterospecific songs, we found no
difference in the responses of parental species to aberrant playback. A previously mentioned study of
two closely related species of African doves found that birds showed more response to conspecific
vocalizations than to heterospecific playback, and found that response to hybrid vocalizations was
intermediate (den Hartog et al. 2007). While our results aren't statistically significant for
intermediate response, the trends do suggest that parental species respond with more vocalizations,
and approach the speaker closer to conspecific vocalizations. With a marginally significant result for

He found that responses of allopatric birds were determined by syllabic cues and not by the temporal
pattern of the song (Baker 1991). As these aberrant chickadee vocalizations may contain
characteristics of both parental song types (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009), we would expect some
type of response from, for example, a BCCH if an aberrant vocalization contained BCCH–like
elements (e.g. slower song frequency, lower pitch interval, lower number of notes per song, etc.). It
is possible that response from parental species to these aberrant vocalizations also varies based on
the structure of the song being presented. The majority of the aberrant song types recorded in Illinois
contain introductory phrases that are similar to typical BCCH song. Perhaps most notably, the
Greenville dialect starts with a two–note phrase that is similar in frequency to a typical BCCH song
(Enstrom and Bollinger 2009). However, the phrase duration is shorter and more similar to a typical
CACH song. With aberrant vocalizations containing elements of both parental song types, a parental
bird could be responding to a particular phrase or other element within the song which elicits a
response similar to a true conspecific song. Further investigation would be necessary to compare
responses from partial songs or from playbacks that have been manipulated to express different song
characteristics.
As expected, our results indicate that

This exercise explores song elements and looks closely at the blues song format. Ask students to
bring the lyrics of a favorite song to class (reminding them beforehand what appropriate and
inappropriate choices would be). Start by discussing the lyrical parts of a song:
Verses–In a song, a verse is a group of lines that constitutes a unit (similar to verses in poetry).
Typically, a song consists of several verses, and the rhyme scheme and rhythm are usually the same
from verse to verse.

Why might Turner have been less approving of such borrowing than Phillips?
How is this borrowing different from floating verses as previously discussed?
Why might black blues artists in the 1950s not have seen white artists' borrowing as a compliment?

3. The passage from Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison describes Milkman's confrontation with his

because of Ruth's supposed affair with her father and Ruth's nature as a sexual deviant. One day,
Milkman follows Ruth to see with his own eyes the proof that Ruth is a sexual deviant, and
Milkman is led to the cemetery. Milkman confronts Ruth whom reveals that she did not have an

This passage from the Song of Solomon describes Lena's confrontation with Milkman after
Milkman ratted out Corinthian's relationship with Porter to Macon which led to Macon breaking up
the relationship and evicting Porter from the apartments. The passage says, "When you slept, we
were quiet; when you were hungry, we cooked; when you wanted to play, we entertained you." Lena
has had enough of catering to Milkman and Milkman pissing on everyone. Lena and Corinthian has
slaved away for Milkman's comfort without a single thank you, and they developed a strong sisterly
bond as a result. So, when Milkman ruined Corinthian's relationship, it was the last straw for Lena
and she wanted Milkman out of the house. Milkman was trying to be a better persona and calmly

Biblical Illusions in Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon
Song of Solomon, by Toni Morrison, is about a man named Macon Dead. Throughout this novel,
however, he is known by all except his father as Milkman because his mother breastfed him until he
was in his teens. The novel centers on Milkman's attempt to find himself. His family is a wealthy
black family living in a poor black neighborhood, where Milkman's father prohibits Milkman from
interacting with most of them, including his aunt. However, he ends up visiting her, and while there,
he learns a little about his family's mysterious past and decides to look deeper into it. Throughout his
journey into his past, one may notice a large amount of biblical allusions.

_Song of Solomon_ in the Bible is about love, just as it is one of the most popular themes in
Morrison's novel. Love is apparent in several ways throughout the novel, from Hagar's immoral, and
eventually psychotic, love for her cousin, Milkman, (which eventually leads to Hagar's death), to the
lack of love that leads Milkman's mother to habitually breast feed him, at least daily, for years just to
get a small amount of pleasure. Morrison explains this by saying, "...he was old enough to be bored
by the flat taste of mother's milk."(Morrison)
Another way in which Morrison infuses a biblical connection into her works is through the naming
of the children in the Dead family. When describing the names of the children she writes, "He had
cooperated... with the blind selection of names from the Bible for every child other than the first
born male. And abided by whatever the finger pointed to..." This is the reason for the naming of his
other two children (Milkman, or Macon, being the first born male), Magdalene from Mary
Magdalene, and First Corinthians, from "The Book of Corinthians."
Besides the children of Macon Dead, there are other biblical allusions in the names of people. One
of these is Hagar, Pilate's son and Milkman's cousin. Though the biblical Hagar is not well known,
her character in the Bible reflects, in some ways, the character in Morrison's novel. In the bible,
Hagar is Sarah's handmaiden. When she bares the son

Cover Songs Comparison
In the music industry, it is not uncommon for original songs to be rerecorded and altered by other
artists resulting in what is known as a cover song. One example of this situations occurrence can be
seen in Vance Joy's indie folk–pop song, "Riptide", that was famously covered by pop and country
crossover artist, Taylor Swift. Overall, there are many factors that go into the relationship between
an original and cover song and the artists of each song. Such as both artist's connection to the song
and the relationship between the artists themselves. There are also differences between the original
and cover songs themselves including song structure, instrumentation, vocals, lyrics, and lyrical
meaning. Vance Joy and Taylor Swift met for the first time backstage in New York at the Late Night
Show with David Letterman (Whitney). By the time for their first meeting, Swift had already
covered Joy's hit single, "Riptide", on a British radio station and announced her invitation for Joy to
join her as the opening act on her international 1989 tour (Adams). Though Joy is an indie folk–pop
singer and Swift a country, pop singer, the two managed to join their audiences together and create
continued mass popularity for "Riptide" as well as promote listeners of both genres to hear the two
perform at the 1989 tour. As Joy was used to performing in smaller venues, the packed auditoriums

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Love Song Lyrics
Romance song lyrics are the most popular subject matter for songwriters because they are easily
relatable and bring up nostalgic memories. Often, love song lyrics are written from experience about
lost or unrequited love and trigger sentimental feelings that make listeners want to put them on
replay. The common written genre I am analyzing is song lyrics for love songs. It is important to pay
attention to this genre because a significant number of people listen to music every day but most
likely do not know the true message of the songs. They are often simple enough for the audience,
often teenagers or young adults who can relate more to these lyrics, to know every word – even
middle schoolers can understand the lyrics. Love song lyrics give a personal opinion on the
composer's love life: Sam Smith reveals his confession and unrequited love in "Leave Your Lover"
and Adele examines the acceptance stage of a breakup in "Someone Like You". By analyzing
Adele's and Sam Smith's choices of words, tone, and expression in their songs "Someone Like You"
and "Leave Your Lover," I will discuss the specific topics, structure, and diction of song lyrics in
romance songs, and then use Adele's and Smith's lyrics to talk about the rhetorical situations to show
how people employ these pieces of writing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Inspiration can strike at any time, so always be prepared to document your idea. This is where the
recording device comes into play. The Inspiration usually comes in the form of a melody. When a
melody hits you, its important to record it as soon as possible. There's nothing worse than coming up
with a great melody while sitting on a train, or driving in rush hour traffic, and having no way to
document it, so be prepared! Don't be afraid to hum the melody into your recording device, or sing it
in gibberish. At this point, words are not important. Next, you need to build upon the melody.
Decide what sort of vibe this melody portrays, and stick to it! Is it sad, happy, angry? Then use your
instrument of choice, a guitar in my case, to make a sample melody for the song. I use the words
"sample melody" because It will be subject to change, depending on the lyrics and structure of the
song. You'll need that pen and paper for this next step. The next step, and by far the most important,
is to write the lyrics. Lyrics can make or break a song. Before writing the lyrics, it is important to
ask questions: What are you trying to get across to the listener? What is the atmosphere of the song?
Are you telling a story? Once you've answered these questions, you can develop the theme of your
song. You also have to consider the structure. There are generally 4 components to a song: the verse,
pre–chorus, chorus, and bridge. The opening line should grab the listener's

"Rap and hip–hop music as we know it today actually began thousands of years ago in Africa with
the "griots", who were village story tellers who played a simple handmade instrument while they

who worked on plantations also used. This is where Americans got the rap idea from. "n addition to
the griot tradition, rap is rooted in the pain of Black–American experience which began with
slavery. While slaves were working in the fields, they would often sing. Part of the songs they sang
were "call and answer" selections. One leader would call out part of the song and the rest of the
slaves would answer with the next line" (Nova). Call and answer methods are still used today by
modern rappers and especially DJs. An example would be when a DJ yells, "make some noise" and
the crowd goes crazy. Rap is all about the quick, elaborate lyrics put into it. "By the 1990s, rap

The first article used for research in this study is titled, Memory for Music: Effect of Melody on
Recall of Text. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of recalling text when it is

representations. It was hypothesized that, the tune will provoke learning and recall of the text
through rhyme and rhythm (Wallace, 1994, p. 1472). There was a sung version of two songs and a
spoken version of the songs recorded on a tape. There were 64 undergraduate participants for the

down the words they could remember, in a short time span between hearing the verses the first and

Get up Stand up was written in 1973 and was written by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh in the group :
The Wailers, published in the album : Legend, by Chrysalis One Music (Metrolyrics, n.d).
Furthermore, their source of inspiration was mainly influenced by their Jamaican upbringing. In
essence, the song is about the fight for acceptance of their Rastafarian religion and the need to take
action to avoid oppression.
The meaning behind the lyrics can be interpreted as both religious and anti–religious. On the other
hand, the line, `Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights,' can be seen as a rallying call for the
people to stand up and demand respect for the Rastafarian religion. Firstly, the fundamental message
that he brings across is that religion is something personal, it is fine to have certain religious beliefs,
but it is not acceptable when you ram it in someone else's throat. He elaborates on the need for
mutual respect for others beliefs. In addition, the lines, "Preacher man don't tell me, heaven is under

arguably her most successful song. It was written in 1970 and later released on her album, Blue, in

industry. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Canadian

People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based
on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family

characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah,
Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they

Both women sacrificed something valuable, Reba her diamond ring and Rebecca her family
relationships, so that their children would be happy. The role of Reba in Song of Solomon is that of
a motherly figure, always putting her children first and not worrying about her own needs. This
description aligns well with biblical Rebecca, who sacrifices her relationship with part of her family
in order to please her son, Jacob. Reba is a kinder and more selfless version of the Bible's version of
Rebecca. Reba's aunt, Ruth Foster, has a name that is also associated with a character in the Bible,
also named Ruth. In the Bible, after her husband died, Ruth faithfully stays with her mother–in–law,
refusing to leave. One of Ruth's most notable quotes from the Bible is as follows: "Do not press me
to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; Where you lodge, I will

be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death parts me from you!"
(Ruth 1:16–17). In this quote, the reader can see that Ruth is willing to stay by her mother–in–law's
side no matter what, even claiming that she would even die with her. Naomi, her mother–in–law, is a
constant reminder of Ruth's husband, and she refuses to leave her because Naomi is the only

Song of Solomon Essay: Devotion and Protection
Devotion and Protection in Song of Solomon
Song of Solomon is a novel written by Toni Morrison. As research is done further, into the bible, the
title refers to a book from the Old Testament. A major theme of the book in the bible is love. It is
about honor and loyalty. This is similar to the theme of love and protection in the book by Toni
Morrison.
Three female characters that portray this best are: Pilate, Ruth, and Magdalene called Lena. In the
book, they are women that try to protect the people they love from men in their family. In the bible,
they hold similar roles of devotion to those that they love.
In Song of Solomon, Pilate is a strong–willed and independent woman. The reason that Ruth goes to
her, is to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the bible, Ruth has a chance to go and protect herself and find a husband, but she stays with her
mother in law. She has a chance to help herself, but she does the honorable thing and stays with
Naomi (Ruth 1:10–14).
Even though Pilate is seen as very powerful, she cannot always protect everything that is precious to
her. She attempts to help Hagar and prevent her from killing Milkman (129). Pilate loves both Hagar
and Milkman and tries to protect them both. Despite her efforts Hagar cannot be controlled. She
tries numerous times to hurt Milkman and does not stop until her death. Pilate knows that Hagar is
slowly hurting herself and can only be stopped by Milkman, but she cannot make Hagar understand
(130). Hagar is so demented that she kills herself because of her obsession. In the bible, Pilate is
also ambiguous about what to do. He knows that Jesus is innocent, but he also knows that it will
bring him trouble if he disobeys the people ( John 19:12).
Not much attention is given to Magdalene called Lena, but she is always seen as the quiet caregiver
that holds things together and protects. When Milkman was young, Lena took care of him when no
one else would (34–5). When she sees that her sister is being hurt, she goes to confront those that
cause the pain (214–6). Milkman had no good reason to tell Macon about Corinthians's relationship
with Porter. Because he does so,

The Mythological Story and The Book of Job
Myths have always played a part in society. Mythological stories not only entertain the reader, but
the mythological story also plays a major role in cultural beliefs. David Bidney writes, "The
function of a myth is thus held to be one of validating or justifying cultural beliefs and practices"
(19). The mythical tale reiterates the moral practices and beliefs that a culture needs to succeed.
There are four purposes for writing a myth: First myths help in expressing humanity's fear and
wonder of nature, myths helps to explain the creation of the universe, myths gives the readers moral
guidelines that should be followed, and finally, myths gives instructions on how to contend with
crises. Because The Book of Job from the Old Testament ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Eliphaz's logic tells him that Job is not a righteous and upright man. Despite hearing the argument,
Job still declares that he is not guilty of sinning against the Lord. Habel explains "that God pursues
him like a lion so that he can demonstrate his prowess as a hunter. Job is perfectly willing to have
the birds, beast, fish, and earth testify to the truth of God's ways" (58). Job is telling his friend that
God does not seek retribution on the earth (natural disasters are not God's way of punishing), but
that if God did, it would be the just and right thing for the Lord to do.
When examining Job, the reader finds that morality plays an intriguing part of the overall message.
Job is a person who lives by example, and he stands for the ideal believer. Job is a man of integrity
and honor. Norman Habel writes, "The 'blamelessness' and 'integrity' of Job is a governing theme
introduced in the prologue and developed throughout the subsequent dialogue speeches of the book"
(82). The reader finds that Job's integrity is being tested throughout his story, and the examples of
how he lives should be copied by the readers. In this case, the readers should follow Job's devout
faith and unfailing belief in the Lord. The Book of Job provides the moral guidance needed to make
this a mythological story. The reader is guided through stages of Job's psychological life, but
because of the

Music And Its Effect On Life
Music, a vocal or instrumental sound (sometimes both) combined in a way that produces beauty of
form, harmony, and expression of emotion or some might say the art or skills of creating or
performing a piece. A favorite song is probably your favorite because it is associated with an
emotional event in your life (Music).
Over the years, music has drastically altered and has become very different from what it used to be.
There was once a purpose, but as time progressed, it is sad to say the importance or significance is
basically gone. Music is said to have begun during the time of the cavemen it was the grunts,
groans, and whines that created the soul sound that would eventually become something so beautiful
and unique. They began by hitting rocks and logs and soon after language was formed, and their
voices became one with the instruments (N.A.). Now within each time period, music made more of
an impact and established a distinctive sound. From Medieval to Renaissance, to the Baroque,
Classical and the Romantic period each individual time span brought more to the meaning of what
music really is. An emotional connection that could change a person mood in an instant. A sound
that allowed anyone to connect with not only the words but also the instruments as well. As music
evolved during the 1900 's more genres were created, for example, ragtime, big band, jazz, blues,
hip–hop, etc. (N.A., Music History). Now today 's compositions tend to bring out the worst in this

Literary Devices In Ed Sheeran's Give Me Love Song
Knowingly or not, poems are either read or listened to each day, usually as a song. Poetry comes in a
variety of forms, but what many are not aware of, is that songs are also a form of poetry. Songs are
poems just placed with a beat behind it. They are made up with the goals to affect the listener with
their words and song structure. One songwriter, Ed Sheeran, builds his songs using several literary
devices. At first listen to one of his songs, Give Me Love, it can be interpreted as another love song.
But after reviewing the lyrics, it can be noticed that he brings his words to life through specific
diction, a certain mood, and a theme to bring the words to life. Analyzing any poem or song can give
the reader a deeper understanding, or sometime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theme is the story or message that the author is trying to send through his work, to the readers. In
this case, Ed Sheeran is trying to get the theme of this song across by the conflict in the storyline, his
use of epimone and the tone of the song. At a first listen to Give Me Love, it seems like any other
love anthem. But a deeper analyzes revels that there is conflict in his words and heart. He starts off
singing the first line of the song, which is "Give me love like her, 'cause lately I've been waking up
alone". It can already be brought to attention the he is in need and feeling alone. The song goes on
and he is struggling for the love of his partner. He says "I just wanna hold ya" right after stating that
he'll give in to calling her once he is drunk. In the line "give a little time to me or burn this out", Ed
is asking for another chance, to give it one more time or to give it up. Yet in the line "it's been a
while but I still feel the same, maybe I should let you go" he is conflicted within himself. He still
loves her, he is willing to take another chance at love but he knows time has passed and maybe it's
time to move on. An epimone is commonly used when attempting to make a point. It is when a word
or phrase is repeated to show emphasis on it. When Sheeran sings "give me love" repeatedly in the
chorus, and shouts "love me!" at the end, it comes through as despair. He constantly repeats it for the
purpose of showing that he is begging for love. The persistence in his voice is accompanied by and
undertone of hurt and anger, which can also be conveyed ad the theme to this song. That being said,
because of the way he shouts certain words and softly speaks other words, it gives the theme a very
specific tone. When listening to Sheeran recites his lyrics, the tone at the begging is very calm, sad
and understanding, he is asking for love again. By the end of the song the tone changes to furious
and passionate, he is

The True Language Of Love

  • 1. The True Language Of Love The True Language of Love When reading early British texts, readers often notice that two main themes are recurring within the stories and poems of the time. These themes are love and religion; both of these were important within the culture. However, the readers may not realize that the language used in describing the two different themes is not different at all. In fact, the language of love and the language of religion are very similar, especially in medieval texts. Two texts that provide an excellent example of this type of language are Marie de France's Lanval and Margery Kempe's The Book of Margery Kempe. Comparing the language used in these works with the biblical book Song of Songs, it is clear that the language used in the texts of the medieval period doubles as both religious and romantic. Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon, is a book of the bible that focuses on Christ's love for his people. Within the book, Christ is portrayed as the bridegroom and Christians as his bride. According to Vivian de Sola Pinto, the book is the nuptial song of King Solomon and his Egyptian Bride, but is also an allusion to "the Love Union and Communion between Christ and the church", and even further, "Christ and every believing soul (Pinto)." Using this explanation, not only is the language in this biblical book different from the other books of the Bible, but also it blends the language of love and the language of religion. Analysis of Kanye West's All Falls Down Essay Thanh Do Professor Rehner English 1980, Tutorial 1 24 March 2009 Personal Context Essay: All Falls Down Kanye West produced the popular song "All Falls Down" in 2004. He is well known for creating many wonderful tunes but this one stands out above the rest. While his other songs contain bass– heavy instrumentals and contain lyrics about money and women, this one is strays away from the previous structures. "All Falls Down" catches the attention of youth, with its mellow melody, to send a strong message concerning the overemphasis on money and education and how it can be harmful through the lyrics. The issues contained in the message are highly focused on the idea that money and education will not always be there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Artists tend to showcase a slower tempo for the song if it dealt with negative views of drugs because it is important to raise the awareness. Kanye tries to usher the ideas that money and education shouldn't be the only objectives of life, so it shouldn't be so important. Because it is unimportant, why express it with such detail in a slower pace? The music and lyrics therefore are contrasted with a purpose. The tempo is created with a bass guitar and drums. Add these to the already established acoustic guitar and female vocals and the beat sounds very complex. This suggests that the issues are also complex; they cannot be easily understood and solved. The lyrics of a song often have no substance and a clear example would be any Britney Spears song. The lyrics of "All Falls Down" are very deep. They talk about the ideal situation in life; We should go to school, get a good job and make money to buy what we want. The lyrics then ask, what if this doesn't happen? This is prevalent in the first verse. "She has no idea what she doing in college. That major that she majoring, it don't make no money." The song questions these everyday values because we focus so much on these things, we don't realize there are more important things in life such as life itself. Even Kanye admits that he spent money at Jacob's Jewellery store before he thought about a house. "I went to Jacob with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay On Cherub Rock And To Forgive The songs Cherub Rock and To Forgive by Smashing Pumpkins are drastically different at first glance. Some may think that the only similarity between the two songs is their artist However as one moves through each song one can see how each song can be connected by either similar lyrics, ideas, structure, or styles of repetition. As we start on the song Cherub Rock from the album Siamese Dream, let's look to the beginning. The start of the songs features upbeat guitars that quickly mix with a dirty rock rhythm, contrasting To Forgive. The songs lyrics start off by saying "freak out and give in. Doesn't matter what you believe in". Given the rest of the songs lyrics this could be referring to blending in and doing what someone else wants due to the lyrics, "be somebody's fool this year. 'Cause they know. Who is righteous, what is bold". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the song contains the final repetitions of "let me out" Corgan goes on to state " I know, I know, I know. Should have listened when I was told" furthering the claim that parts of the song is about giving in to what someone else wants. To Forgive features a different style of repetition that parallels the previous lyrics. The lyrics "I knew my loss before I even learned to speak" and "but I played along to my birthday song" are very similar to previous lyrics, basically repeating the pre chorus. This could be done to emphasize ideas without repeating the pre chorus verbatim. The song then goes on to repeat the chorus once more. The feelings of loss of control, emptiness, or childhood sadness are expressed in Cherub Rock and To Forgive are not positive feelings. These feeling cause each song to have a similar message and tone to one another, without the listeners realization. Even though the songs are pretty different overall this tone causes the songs to have a coherent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Run' By George Strait: Music Analysis Artists write or compose things for a specific reason, usually this is to convey a feeling to the listener or reader. When words are placed with music, it can change how a person hears or thinks of a song. In the song "Run" by George Strait he creates a feeling of desperation and longing not only with his lyrics, but also with the melody that goes along with it. Music is powerful, and it can change your attitude towards something just by the sound and tone of music. By adapting a song into a letter, one can either change the meaning of the whole song or allow it to give the reader the same feeling as before. I changed George's song into a letter to show how things can be different or the same when you take music out of a piece.. In my adaptation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George Straits daughter was killed in a car crash in 1986 when she was just 13. When most people see this song they immediately think that it is a love song and in a way, it is, but I think that this could maybe not be a song addressed to a significant other but rather to his daughter. This could be a possibility in his intention for this song. Yes, the song may sound worldly when he is telling her how to get to him, but when he tells her "cut a path across the blue skies, straight in a straight line you can't get here fast enough." Maybe he is trying to talk to his daughter again and wants her to seemingly fly down from heaven to him so he can see her once more. This would also explain why he misses her so much, maybe it's his little girl who died who he is writing to. In many of his other songs George talks about Dallas and always sings about Dallas, perhaps in this song when he talks about her leaving Dallas to return to him he is thinking of Dallas as his form of heaven. So, he is begging his daughter to come from Dallas which is his representation of heaven, to come back to him if at all possible. This is the only variation I can think of for the lyrics: instead of the thought of it being toward his wife or lover it may be for his daughter who passed away in a car ... • 9. The Studies Of Music And How It May Not Help The Alzheimer... In order to understand how the studies of music and how it may or may not help the Alzheimer's disease (AD) one would need the background of it. AD is a progressive neurological disease that leads to deterioration in cognitive abilities. People with AD encounter a progressive decline in their neurological capabilities, which manifest in language deficits, among other cognitive difficulties. The main failures in speech include naming difficulties, verbal fluency deficit, comprehension problems, and deterioration of spontaneous speech. People with AD tend to have discourse deficits, which include empty phrases, indefinite words, and repetitions. The speech of a person with the deficits is difficult for an interlocutor to follow. Thus, theses progressive language failures can lead people with AD to isolation. Due to their progressive inability to communicate, people with AD need interventions that address their communication needs and help prevent social isolation (Dass, A., & Amir, D. 2014). Increased social interaction can improve quality of life by enabling people with AD to remain socially engaged. Communication trainings include active instruction such as role playing and analyzing video observations of conversations with people with AD. Computer based systems are also used, providing multimedia stimuli. Reminiscence therapy uses the intact long–term memory that enabling people with AD to engage in a conversation about their past experiences (Dass, A., & Amir, D. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Personal Experience: The Musical Talents of the John... On the 17th of April 2014, at the Hobart City hall, Tasmanian audiences witnessed the musical talents of the John Butler Trio. This Australian band was originally formed in 1998, and since then has gained great international success. Since the release of their latest album this year, titled Flesh and blood, the John Butler Trio have undertaken a national tour around Australia, to showcase their new work. Upon arriving at the venue at 7pm. I quickly found a seat with a good view of the stage and sat down with anticipation for the concert to begin. After waiting for around 45 minutes my excitement began to fade and I soon grew impatient and tiered of listening to strange trance music that was played over the speakers throughout the venue. After waiting further 20 minutes the supporting act came out to play their set. This act comprised of Mama Kin, who is John Butler's wife, and some other musicians that were not introduced. Her performance consisted of songs from her new album The Magician's Daughter, with her set being comprised of eight songs, including: Rescue, One Too Many and Give Me A Reason. Mama Kin's voice was tender to listen to and through out every song she poured both heart and soul, with every minute of her performance showing her passion for her craft. Mama Kin's stage presence was strong and relaxed. Her performance was also entertaining between songs, as she put both the audience and her self at ease by telling some

Essay Manipulation of Lyrics in Shakespeare's As You Like It Manipulation of Lyrics in As You Like It While it is a comedy of the turmoil of love and the experimentation with gender roles and identity, William Shakespeare's As you Like It is a historical preservation of Renaissance music. The play is fraught with spontaneous song and poetry, yet Shakespeare strategically manipulates these musical elements. Specifically, the lyrics and poetry of the play function to establish a soundtrack and a direct appeal to their Elizabethan audience, while providing Shakespeare with a valuable shorthand for character development. It is necessary to understand that music in Shakespeare's time functions as a complete renovation of sound, voice, and function. Paul Brian emphasizes that ... While this song obviously functions to contrast the sharp melancholy of Jacques, Long suggests its worthwhile placement on As You Like It's imaginary soundtrack: "Its subject and structure suggest a song suitable for singing by a convivial group. It is, perhaps, a drinking song appropriate for a group of mock foresters to sing or to enjoy as listeners" (143). This incorporation of a song that fits into the popular communal genre while countering the woeful tone of Jacques is a rather cinematic choice on Shakespeare's part. It likens him to almost a film director who makes choices on effective musical selections. We also must notice Shakespeare's choice of borrowed lyrics when considering the music of the play as a soundtrack. Much like today's film moguls, Shakespeare seeks to include familiar lyrics to attract attention to his work. In Act 3, scene 3, Touchstone spouts a fragmented verse: O, sweet Oliver/O, brave Oliver/Leave me not behind thee [...] (82–84). Pattison acknowledges that this fragment belongs to a popular Renaissance poem: Lord Oxford is credited with the authorship of the famous 'In peascod time' [...] (The poem) became so popular that its first line came to

The reading explains the reasons why multiple shows and musicals failed and how their plot and lyrics were preserved in writing. It recounts how the shows embraced the new technologies to provide more powerful shows. One of the multiple topics covered in the reading that transcended cultures was the romantic drama, which was structured by Shakespeare. It's respective characters influenced most of the productions during that time. The well defined roles are used to complement each other and create an all in one fusion of love, comedy, social issues, racial issues, psychosocial issues among other relevant concern. • 21. How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar. Toni Morrison, author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of the novel, Morrison's use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance, Not Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city allowed, hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the name "Blood Bank" was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses this name to expose the differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In addition to physical places, Morrison also picked the names of each character intentionally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the onset on the novel, Morrison is able associate Guitar with the theme of unattainability through the ""...contest, in a store down home in Florida" (45). Guitar "saw [the guitar] when [his] mother took [him] downtown with her. [He] was just a baby...[he] cried for it, they said. And always asked about it" (45). Guitar's name originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to that fact that Guitar is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the unattainability of the guitar by explaining "It was one of those things where you guess how many beans in the big glass jar and you win a guitar" (45). This game adds an additional barrier between Guitar and the guitar in the store because it makes the guitar appear as a "trophy" to winning the contest. This connects to the idea of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of winning or obtaining money, trophies, or pride. Just like how the death of his own father makes him unattainable Guitar choses to go to war with racism. Guitar notices racism present in society "...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro man is killed by whites and nothing is done about it by their low and their courts..." (154). Guitar tries to end racism and reach equality be joining the Seven Days Society which "...selects a similar victim at random, and they execute him or her in a similar manner if they can" (154). Morrison uses her major theme of racism to show the significance of Guitar's name as he joins the Seven Days Society attempting to reach justice by killing white people when they kill other black people. Morrison shows that Guitar is fighting in an unwinnable war; Guitar keeps fighting anyways (1). Deeper in the novel, Guitar's "...commitment to political justice goes awry: in seeking a death for Hagar's death, presumably, Guitar "sacrifices" the innocent Pilate. Her ... They are break–up songs. Each in their own way, all of these songs are about pain and sadness caused by break–ups. Some of these songs are meant to cause an already sad person to cope with their sadness by pushing them farther into "The Abyss". A few are meant to touch on the happier memories of the relationship giving someone hope that they will love again. All of these songs, through their lyrics, structure, and rhythm, are all meant to cope with a person's sadness that results from a break–up. Paris by the Chainsmokers is a song that reflects on the happy side of a relationship that is rarely seen in break–ups. The song is essentially the writer remembering a relationship with fondness. It tells the tale of two young lovers on their own and in love who eventually break apart. It also touches on happy memories like the lyrics "We were staying in paris,/ to get away from your parents" (Chainsmokers, 1–2). By highlighting the highs instead of lows, it shows the listener that they should not be sad about their loss but happy that they ever got to experience the joy and happiness that most relationships provide. Perhaps more than even giving the reader a clue about what is to come, Morrison gives readers this scene in an attempt to pique interest in the meaning of words. Perhaps Morrison is showing readers that just because a word has meant one thing in the past, it is not precluded from taking on other meanings as well. For the readers of Song, that is exactly what happens. In Morrison's story, the name Pilate loses its original meaning of Christ killer and gains the meaning of one who has control of the direction of her life. Pilate is a seeker. She asks, "What do I need to know to stay alive?" and "What is true in the world?" (149). Dominant culture might only need to ask about truth. Minority culture asks about survival. Because of her gift for penetrating to the heart of her own experience, Pilate becomes a person who can guide others. The most prominent of all the uses of biblical names in the story is the title itself, Song of Solomon. I chose this topic because I knew I would learn a lot from it and that it would help me in my future. I wanted to learn how to write great lyrics for my songs and make melodies so that I may perform them to an audience. I had to research the different ways of writing lyrics, how to come up with a title for your song, how to make a melody, and how to apply chords to that melody. I have learned an easy way to make songs of your own so that they seem professional but anybody could do it. This is the basics of Songcraft. In songcraft, the first thing that you must think of should be the lyrics to your song. You may not have to use lyrics in your song which does not change anything but most modern music these days have lyrics to express the mood of the song more. If you want lyrics in your song or songs then the first step is to brainstorm. Choose a topic that you want your song to cover and let your imagination run wild. Never hesitate in writing down the first words that come to mind if you do then that is your first mistake. Lyrics aren't what somebody has just chosen from a book or poem they are applied in the way that the artist imagines them not how she/he wants them to sound. When I say this I do not mean that they never fix their lyrics but that they know there meaning in the song from the lyrics even if the lyrics do not make sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another line in the song, in which he says "Needle and the thread, gotta get you out of my head". He says this line a number amount of times throughout the entire song. He's trying to get over the entire relationship, but keeps remembering the good things that came out of the relationship. The way he set up his song one can already tell the emotional pain he has probably gone through. The emotion came throughout the song when he fused a broken relationship with the act of stitching. From the start of the song, "The drought was the worst, When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst." Which automatically references water, but also that the relationship she once had died out like flowers dying of thirst. Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin: Song Analysis The song "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" by Sly and the Family Stone is a catchy song that represents the move to a brand new style of music. It represents a style of music that incorporates both R&B and rock elements. In "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", the band incorporates aspects of R&B by having the entire song built over a repeating riff in the bass. This repeating riff in the bass, according to chapter 9 of the book establishes "the song's rhythmic feel or 'groove'." This is considered an element of the R&B genre because R&B is known to have repetitive rhythms in their songs. The aforementioned aspect in the song is significant because the repeating riff is what made this song successful due to the catchiness of the rhythm or "groove". ... The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family member. Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical characters possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah, Jacob, David, and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they are all biblical names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth century. The reader is introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the characters' personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their biblical names. Reba, Milkman's mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the Bible, as their names are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and devotion to her son Jacob, whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her relationship to one of her sons and also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. • 37. The Song Structure And Analysis Of Mystery Song 3 At first listen, Mystery Song Three was unlike anything I had ever heard. I knew it was loud, I knew it was aggressive, and that was about it. We were challenged with analyzing a mystery song by defining its structure, basic description, expression, and historical and cultural context. Even without knowing anything about the song, you can find these elements just by listening to it. 2. Song Structure A song's structure can be best described as its organization. I found that Mystery Song Three is a ABABC modified verse chorus form. This means there was five vocal sections with three different types of sections–A the verse, B the chorus, C the conclusion. For clarification I have named each of the five vocal sections as follows: vocal section 1–A1, vocal section 2–B1, vocal section 3–A2, vocal section 4 –B2, vocal section 5–C. The song began with an instrumental introduction. At first, there was only the cymbals playing but very quickly the texture thickened when guitar and drums came in. These were both aggressive and fast paced. Section A1 was the first verse section of the song. Since this was the first time that the vocalist came in we learned that the vocalist was male with a rough sound and midrange voice. The instrumentation of this section featured a repeating guitar riff and drum sounds. Overall, this section had an angry sound emphasized with swear words and angry lyrics, had a heavy texture created by the guitar and drums, and had a fast tempo. This section was then followed by an instrumental section to create a transition from A1 to B1. Section B1 was the first chorus. This section also featured a fast tempo, aggressive guitar part, and percussion. However, this section had slower vocals than A1. Additionally, new vocal techniques were used such as blues influenced slides on the lyric "No". Also the rhythm changed which emphasized the lyric "burnt in to my skin" to further relate the anger in the song. After another instrumental break, A2 verse began. The melody of A1 repeats with a very similar instrumental part. However, the lyrics from A1 are different, and a "No" shout is added differing more from A1. This further communicates and anger and frustration expression in the song. Following an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No love, my love, that thou mayst true love call–All mine was thine before thou hadst this more." The preceding poem, written by William Shakespeare, tells of a lover wanting to give all their love to their lover. Similarly, the writer of Songs of Solomon tells of giving all the love to their lover. Through this writing, different aspects of the Songs will be addressed, along with the defense of the various forms of the Songs. Finality will show how the Songs fit with the church of today. One source focuses on the male lead of the Song and the aspect of power from Cheryl Exum who discussed, "the male protagonist's concerns about the power dynamics between himself and his lover in the Song; in her totality he finds her overwhelming, even intimidating, and so he fragments her, considers her little–by–little, piece–by– piece, in his waṣfs." Subsequently, another source emphasizes how can one have sexual intimacy if they are apart from one another. This is referenced from the writing by Edward Burne–Jones who states: After all, like ... The Effects Of Parental Species On Aberrant Playback While parental species responded more to conspecific songs than heterospecific songs, we found no difference in the responses of parental species to aberrant playback. A previously mentioned study of two closely related species of African doves found that birds showed more response to conspecific vocalizations than to heterospecific playback, and found that response to hybrid vocalizations was intermediate (den Hartog et al. 2007). While our results aren't statistically significant for intermediate response, the trends do suggest that parental species respond with more vocalizations, and approach the speaker closer to conspecific vocalizations. He found that responses of allopatric birds were determined by syllabic cues and not by the temporal pattern of the song (Baker 1991). As these aberrant chickadee vocalizations may contain characteristics of both parental song types (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009), we would expect some type of response from, for example, a BCCH if an aberrant vocalization contained BCCH–like elements (e.g. slower song frequency, lower pitch interval, lower number of notes per song, etc.). It is possible that response from parental species to these aberrant vocalizations also varies based on the structure of the song being presented. The majority of the aberrant song types recorded in Illinois contain introductory phrases that are similar to typical BCCH song. Perhaps most notably, the Greenville dialect starts with a two–note phrase that is similar in frequency to a typical BCCH song (Enstrom and Bollinger 2009). However, the phrase duration is shorter and more similar to a typical CACH song. With aberrant vocalizations containing elements of both parental song types, a parental bird could be responding to a particular phrase or other element within the song which elicits a response similar to a true conspecific song. Further investigation would be necessary to compare responses from partial songs or from playbacks that have been manipulated to express different song characteristics. Ask students to bring the lyrics of a favorite song to class (reminding them beforehand what appropriate and inappropriate choices would be). Start by discussing the lyrical parts of a song: Verses–In a song, a verse is a group of lines that constitutes a unit (similar to verses in poetry). The passage from Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison describes Milkman's confrontation with his mother, Ruth, at the cemetery. Before, Macon has convinced Milkman to be disgusted of Ruth because of Ruth's supposed affair with her father and Ruth's nature as a sexual deviant. One day, Milkman follows Ruth to see with his own eyes the proof that Ruth is a sexual deviant, and Milkman is led to the cemetery. Milkman confronts Ruth whom reveals that she did not have an affair with her father. Ruth says, "No. But I did kneel there in my slip at his bedside and kiss his beautiful fingers," which contradicts Macon's account of what happened. Ruth, fully clothed, only kissed the hands of her mother. Ruth did not strip naked and kiss her father on the mouth like Macon said. Then, Milkman points out Ruth's nursing of ... This passage from the Song of Solomon describes Lena's confrontation with Milkman after Milkman ratted out Corinthian's relationship with Porter to Macon which led to Macon breaking up the relationship and evicting Porter from the apartments. Lena has had enough of catering to Milkman and Milkman pissing on everyone. Lena and Corinthian has slaved away for Milkman's comfort without a single thank you, and they developed a strong sisterly bond as a result. So, when Milkman ruined Corinthian's relationship, it was the last straw for Lena and she wanted Milkman out of the house. Milkman was trying to be a better persona and calmly said, " Lena, cool it. I don't want to hear it." However, Milkman came out as apathetic and uncaring to Lena who replies that the only reason Milkman has "the right to decide our lives" is due to the "that hog's gut that hangs down between your legs." Throughout this novel, however, he is known by all except his father as Milkman because his mother breastfed him until he was in his teens. The novel centers on Milkman's attempt to find himself. His family is a wealthy black family living in a poor black neighborhood, where Milkman's father prohibits Milkman from interacting with most of them, including his aunt. However, he ends up visiting her, and while there, he learns a little about his family's mysterious past and decides to look deeper into it. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... _Song of Solomon_ in the Bible is about love, just as it is one of the most popular themes in Morrison's novel. Love is apparent in several ways throughout the novel, from Hagar's immoral, and eventually psychotic, love for her cousin, Milkman, (which eventually leads to Hagar's death), to the lack of love that leads Milkman's mother to habitually breast feed him, at least daily, for years just to get a small amount of pleasure. Morrison explains this by saying, "...he was old enough to be bored by the flat taste of mother's milk."(Morrison) Another way in which Morrison infuses a biblical connection into her works is through the naming of the children in the Dead family. When describing the names of the children she writes, "He had cooperated... with the blind selection of names from the Bible for every child other than the first born male. And abided by whatever the finger pointed to..." This is the reason for the naming of his other two children (Milkman, or Macon, being the first born male), Magdalene from Mary Magdalene, and First Corinthians, from "The Book of Corinthians." Besides the children of Macon Dead, there are other biblical allusions in the names of people. One of these is Hagar, Pilate's son and Milkman's cousin. Though the biblical Hagar is not well known, her character in the Bible reflects, in some ways, the character in Morrison's novel. In the bible, Hagar is Sarah's handmaiden. • 55. Cover Songs Comparison In the music industry, it is not uncommon for original songs to be rerecorded and altered by other artists resulting in what is known as a cover song. One example of this situations occurrence can be seen in Vance Joy's indie folk–pop song, "Riptide", that was famously covered by pop and country crossover artist, Taylor Swift. Overall, there are many factors that go into the relationship between an original and cover song and the artists of each song. Such as both artist's connection to the song and the relationship between the artists themselves. There are also differences between the original and cover songs themselves including song structure, instrumentation, vocals, lyrics, and lyrical meaning. Vance Joy and Taylor Swift met for the first time backstage in New York at the Late Night Show with David Letterman (Whitney). By the time for their first meeting, Swift had already covered Joy's hit single, "Riptide", on a British radio station and announced her invitation for Joy to join her as the opening act on her international 1989 tour (Adams). Though Joy is an indie folk–pop singer and Swift a country, pop singer, the two managed to join their audiences together and create continued mass popularity for "Riptide" as well as promote listeners of both genres to hear the two perform at the 1989 tour. • 57. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Love Song Lyrics Romance song lyrics are the most popular subject matter for songwriters because they are easily relatable and bring up nostalgic memories. Often, love song lyrics are written from experience about lost or unrequited love and trigger sentimental feelings that make listeners want to put them on replay. The common written genre I am analyzing is song lyrics for love songs. It is important to pay attention to this genre because a significant number of people listen to music every day but most likely do not know the true message of the songs. They are often simple enough for the audience, often teenagers or young adults who can relate more to these lyrics, to know every word – even middle schoolers can understand the lyrics. Love song lyrics give a personal opinion on the composer's love life: Sam Smith reveals his confession and unrequited love in "Leave Your Lover" and Adele examines the acceptance stage of a breakup in "Someone Like You". By analyzing Adele's and Sam Smith's choices of words, tone, and expression in their songs "Someone Like You" and "Leave Your Lover," I will discuss the specific topics, structure, and diction of song lyrics in romance songs, and then use Adele's and Smith's lyrics to talk about the rhetorical situations to show how people employ these pieces of writing. ... There's nothing worse than coming up with a great melody while sitting on a train, or driving in rush hour traffic, and having no way to document it, so be prepared! Don't be afraid to hum the melody into your recording device, or sing it in gibberish. At this point, words are not important. Next, you need to build upon the melody. Decide what sort of vibe this melody portrays, and stick to it! Is it sad, happy, angry? Then use your instrument of choice, a guitar in my case, to make a sample melody for the song. I use the words "sample melody" because It will be subject to change, depending on the lyrics and structure of the song. You'll need that pen and paper for this next step. The next step, and by far the most important, is to write the lyrics. Lyrics can make or break a song. Before writing the lyrics, it is important to ask questions: What are you trying to get across to the listener? What is the atmosphere of the song? Are you telling a story? Once you've answered these questions, you can develop the theme of your song. You also have to consider the structure. The first article used for research in this study is titled, Memory for Music: Effect of Melody on Recall of Text. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of recalling text when it is heard as a song, rather than just spoken. The idea behind this comes from the role in memory representations. It was hypothesized that, the tune will provoke learning and recall of the text through rhyme and rhythm (Wallace, 1994, p. 1472). Furthermore, their source of inspiration was mainly influenced by their Jamaican upbringing. In essence, the song is about the fight for acceptance of their Rastafarian religion and the need to take action to avoid oppression. The meaning behind the lyrics can be interpreted as both religious and anti–religious. On the other hand, the line, `Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights,' can be seen as a rallying call for the people to stand up and demand respect for the Rastafarian religion. Firstly, the fundamental message that he brings across is that religion is something personal, it is fine to have certain religious beliefs, but it is not acceptable when you ram it in someone else's throat. He elaborates on the need for mutual respect for others beliefs. This description aligns well with biblical Rebecca, who sacrifices her relationship with part of her family in order to please her son, Jacob. Reba is a kinder and more selfless version of the Bible's version of Rebecca. Reba's aunt, Ruth Foster, has a name that is also associated with a character in the Bible, also named Ruth. Theme is the story or message that the author is trying to send through his work, to the readers. In this case, Ed Sheeran is trying to get the theme of this song across by the conflict in the storyline, his use of epimone and the tone of the song. At a first listen to Give Me Love, it seems like any other love anthem. But a deeper analyzes revels that there is conflict in his words and heart. He starts off singing the first line of the song, which is "Give me love like her, 'cause lately I've been waking up alone". It can already be brought to attention the he is in need and feeling alone. The song goes on and he is struggling for the love of his partner. He says "I just wanna hold ya" right after stating that he'll give in to calling her once he is drunk. In the line "give a little time to me or burn this out", Ed is asking for another chance, to give it one more time or to give it up. Yet in the line "it's been a while but I still feel the same, maybe I should let you go" he is conflicted within himself.
