How Did Early Labor History Influence The Writings Of Karl...
Karl Marx may arguably be the founding father of labor history. If not, his ideas of class struggle
and capitalism have certainly influenced many historians, not only labor historians, but social,
environmental and cultural historians. Historians like E.P. Thompson and Christopher Hill were so
influences that they were members of the Communist Party preceding the second World War. Other
more contemporary American historians like Thomas G. Andrews are more overt in their
appreciation and use of Marxist ideas, nevertheless, still implemented. Early labor histories like
those offered by E.P. Thompson have numerous parallels compared to more contemporary
interpretations similar to those presented by Thomas G. Andrews. Similarities include the ... Show

Andrews effectively then back tracks as this event and the sentiment of dissatisfaction of the status
quo was not isolated, but had roots in the 1880's. The idea of class consciousness is definitive in The
Making of the English Working Class, E.P. Thompson devotes a whole chapter to its discussion.
Though the two monographs occur in different time periods and focus on different events, it is not
anachronistic to consider that both groups had a form of class consciousness. Thompson's definition
of class consciousness is "the awareness of continuing, both old and new battles of their own." Some
historians argue that class consciousness is not innately American. However, Andrews makes a good
case that these coal miners were very much aware of their place in society. While Thompson argues
that the English working class was self made, he also argued that labor shaped class. Andrews
premise is that natural resources shaped class. In Killing for Coal, the sense of class consciousness
was effected positively and negatively to the fact that the group was so ethnically diverse, compared
to Thompson's analysis of the freeborn

Memories Of The Past Has Influenced American History
Memories of the past has influenced many of the early traditional historians in creating their ideas of
early Texas History. Personal narratives passed on to historians became the foundation for many of
the early writers in developing an early identity for the state. Unfortunately, many of the early
histories supported and primarily Anglo culture and a Top–Down approach to history. Most of the
early history was written relative to the Anglo viewpoint and biased opinions. Fortunately, many
underrepresented cultures now have a voice and the capabilities to provide personal accounts and
history as passed down within said culture. Now, new historians can use personal narratives and
memories from within other cultures to validate or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Texas. He drew up poor on the range and was exposed to many cowboys with pistols and ranching.
These early experiences influenced Webb in his writing and was based on his perception of what
they were instead of what they were in actuality. J. Frank Dobie was one of three friends credited

instead of writing as it happened is another example of writing based on memory. Memories can be
true or false but cannot necessary be understood as factual events. Most of his writings would be
classified as folklore rather than history however he did have standards to his writing. Dobie

readability may be an area that truths were distorted in favor of a entertainment or support of a
higher Anglo cause. Yet because history, memory and personal accounts are entertaining, they will

that Texas history is colorful, unique, and expansive field of inquiry, filled with all sorts of narrative

My Wordplay In My Writing History
When it comes to my writing history the way I express my wordplay has changed a lot in the past
year, from not being able to keep my paragraphs on topic to actually understanding how to use
punition, this is my greatest achievement. The way I used to write was rattled with tons errors; so
much so, that most of my essays were given back because the sentence structure was everywhere.
Much like a book by Sean Penn, my ideas were in places that would leave the reader wondering
how they got there. In all honesty, sentence structure has always been a clutch that held me back.
With regards to this, I like to think that my writing has improved leaps from where I originally
started. As I started learning better sentence structure, I began to build

Plutarch's Life and Legendary Writings Essay
Plutarch was a well–known historian, biographer, and essayist. Also, Plutarch was a Greek scholar,
and today is considered to be a Middle Protanist. Clyde Curry Smith, a professor at the University of
Wisconsin, tells readers "Plutarch was born sometime around 46 A.D. in Chaeronea, Boeotia"
(Smith). Plutarch was born "around the Roman imperial administration of Claudius I"(Smith). It is
also believed that Plutarch died around the age of 74, "sometime after 120 c.e."(Smith). Along with
being a historian and essayist, Plutarch was also a priest, ambassador, mayor, and magistrate.
Plutarch was born to a wealthy prominent family; he later married and is known to have at least two
sons. During his time, Plutarch can be reflected as a celebrity ... Show more content on

Moralia contains "Plutarch's surviving writings on ethical, religious, political, and literary topics and
amount to more than 60 essays"(Walbank). Smith states, "of the seventy–eight essays, the average
length is less than seven thousand words"(Smith). Though Plutarch has many recognizable and still
existent writings, his style of writing is very important. Many people are intrigued with Plutarch's
writing skills, and find they are very important. Plutarch usually wrote to explain an aspect of, some
even about military matters. Also, readers can relate his writing style as trying to teach and persuade
the reader to attain their morality or respectability in their own life, also known as philosophical.
Walbank informs the reader about Plutarch's writing style "His style is predominantly Attic,
influenced by the contemporary Greek that he spoke"(Walbank). Although Plutarch generally wrote
about figures in the Greek and Roman society, some people believe his writing styles can be divided
into four small groups. These four groups are depicted to be "at the request of his friends, for his
own satisfaction, whose career may serve as a warning, and of the founding fathers and legislators
of Greece and Rome"(Smith). Smith also tells us that "Plutarch understood d his main literary
activity was to involve the education of men"(Smith). Finally we know that Plutarch also "gave
attention to a great variety of topics, some of a traditional nature, some much more issues of the

History Writing Prompt Analysis
History Writing Prompt 2015–2016: Prompt 2 As the Revolutionary War faded in Gunner's memory,
another image filled his mind. The smell was one they remembered from their adventures during the
Revolutionary War. It was gunpowder! "Not another war", was all Gunner could think. As Gunner
looked down, he saw that they were dressed in a Union uniform.... Boom! A cannon whizzed past
my ear, nearly taking off my head! I looked around and saw death, from both sides, but mainly I saw
more fatalities in men dressed in Union uniforms. After retreating, the general, whose name I found
out to be Ulysses S. Grant, said that we had lost this battle, the Battle of Bull Run. He said we were
located in the state of Virginia, and that we were to travel south, towards this state's capital,
Richmond. For almost an entire year, we regained our strength, tended ... Show more content on

"Republicans don't want slavery to spread, and southerners base their living off of the work of
slaves. Without them, they wouldn't have anyone to do the hard work for them. For that reason, the
southern states started to secede," he finished. "Wow! But how did that start the war?" Gunner
asked. "Lincoln said that to try to secede was very illegal. He even went further to say that he would
hold the Union together by force if he had to, so I guess that called for an army, and an army usually
calls for war," the soldier finished. "Speaking of war, get up soldiers! Today we march to Richmond
to face our foes," General McClellan said. "I have a good feeling we'll crush those confederates!" he
rallied. Knock on wood, many soldiers thought.
The union soldiers marched to Richmond and the battle began. The Union soldiers quickly lost as
General Lee began a series of attacks at Beaver Dam creek, which caught them off–guard. The next
six days was a basic repeat of the day before, only in a new location, with more casualties and more
fatalities.

My Writing History: From My Migration To The United States
My writing history How would I consider my writing history? When I first wrote an essay it was last
semester on English 363. I had an opportunity to write an essay about emigration, and to describe
my experience, thoughts, and feelings before and after I immigrated to the United States from
Republic of Moldova in 2013. In ESL 363 we were required to write as much possible and to follow
the prompt. To illustrate, grammar, vocabulary, transition signals, examples from our own
experience, at least five paragraphs and to name a few. When I write an essay I usually make a
graphic organizer which helps me to follow the prompt and to memorize the structure of an essay.
Sometimes, I use synonyms to prevent repeating the same words all the time. Although, I like to add
some quotes on my essay because that gives me an opportunity to explain the quote and to introduce
my own point of view about it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The War Of The World War II
Going through the different levels of the educational system most everyone has talked about the
Second World War in great detail. The European and Pacific Theaters were the main focus of many
historians and their writing, because war pertained to the audience of the time. WWII revolved
around the idea of freedom and liberating the fascist governments of Europe, the homefront back in
the states was the war machine that kept the war churning. Millions of pages have been written
about the experiences and battles during WWII, and still continue, not much in the way of the
American homefront history has been written. Classical historicism reigned supreme early after the
war, and historians saw that war was a major topic as it reflected the top down approach. This
included looking at men such as, Patton, Eisenhower, and Hitler, and also telling the more economic
side of war. As early as January, 1944 historians thought about the historiography of World War II.
In The American Historical Review, historians geared up for the writing of this history. Some
historians already thought about the American homefront. Though attempts in the 1940s were a
start, nothing in the way of homefront writing came until the 1960s. These attempts merely focused
upon how the homefront funded the war, metal production of the states, and how the American spirit
was fueled by the homefront. 1960s historians did not go into depth of these areas until the 1970's
and 1980's. Most historians were focusing on

Re Writing History And Rwandan Identity Through The Kigali...
Re–writing History and Rwandan Identity Through the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre
In April 2004, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre opened to commemorate the tenth anniversary
of the Rwandan Genocide. Peacefully overlooking the city of Kigali, the Centre seeks to be a place
of remembrance and honor for survivors as well as a step towards creating Rwanda's post–genocide
identity. Rwanda has sought to find its place politically, socially, and in memory through this
westernized approach to remembrance. The museum is comprised of the display of a permanent
exhibition, a memorial garden, a small library and documentation center, and a mass grave holding
over 250,000 genocide victims who were killed in and around the city of Kigali during the 1994
genocide. Although the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre is poised to be an impactful space and
place for remembrance and education, I will argue that it has become a place for revisionist history
and political agendas to be promoted.
Before the genocide of 1994, Rwanda had been a country of great political and social turmoil. Deep
seeded ethnic tensions which had plagued Rwanda since its colonization, first by Germany and then
Belgium, came to a devastating and bloody genocide in April 1994 in which, over a period of
approximately 100 days, between 800,000 and one million Tutsi and Hutu people were left dead.
Today scholars believe that there is no actual ethnic distinction between the two people groups aside

Analysis Of The Book ' Toward Perpetual Peace & Other...
In the book, "Toward Perpetual Peace and Other Writings on politics, Peace and History", Immanuel
Kant shows us that we can find purpose in a life that seems to lack purpose. By not presupposing
individual purposiveness among humans, Kant discovers a natural purpose among "all" humanity.
Through this fundamental idea, we can see that Kant discovers a universal history from a
Cosmopolitan point of view. Cosmopolitanism centers around the idea that all of humanity belongs
to a single community and is based on a mutual universal morality (among rational individuals).
This essay will focus mainly on the arguments for purposiveness without purpose, specifically the
arguments for purpose and their implications. Furthermore, the question this ... Show more content

"In the human being (as the only rational creature on earth), those natural predispositions aimed at
the use of its reason are to be developed in full only in the species, but not in the individual. This can
be interpreted in my perspective as genes. Since we are not immortal we must practice and perfect
our skills, and by natures will, we pass our perfected genes on to the next generation so they may
further perfect the skill in hopes of finding insight or enlightenment. If this is not to be nature's
purpose for us, our natural capacities should be seen as "without direction" and useless. The Third
Proposition states," Nature has willed that human beings produce everything that extends beyond
the mechanical organization of their animal existence completely on their own, and that they shall
not partake in any happiness or perfection other than that which they attain free of instinct and by
means of their own reason " (Kant, p. 5). Through this premise Kant is saying that nature takes
nothing for granted. She is neither wasteful nor reckless with means to her goal. By giving women
and men reason and free will, nature entails our purpose. Furthermore, nature did not purpose for us
to live guided by instinct, as we lack instinctive knowledge to nurture ourselves and must learn
everything ourselves without instruction, which also entails our purpose as reasoning things who
must reason to survive and eventually

What The Title Of Hobsbawm 's Book Can Indicate At A First...
Despite what the title of Hobsbawm's book can indicate at a first glance, his work is neither a step–
by–step textbook of factual information about how history should be written nor a series of directly
given guidelines that historians should follow. Instead it is a book composed of twenty–one essays
that represent his own work transformed from their previous form as lectures, contributions to
conferences or articles and reviews in different journals. As Hobsbawm himself explains, his
reflections on history for the better of his fifty–year career in history have brought together this
collection of papers. His essays deal with issues like the uses and abuses of history in both society
and politics and concerns with historical interpretation while also looking at the history of the
discipline itself from the 1890s –when it became an academic subject– to the newer historical trends
and fashions like postmodernism. When looked at separately, the chapters in the book appear to be
too different to fit in the same volume and developed by themselves each can form a new book.
However, Hobsbawm explains his reasoning behind adding each of them to the book. Chapter one
stands out as Hobsbawm addresses future generation of historians (it was at first an introductory
lecture given at a university in Budapest), warning about the dangers of writing history wrongly and
outlining the main responsibilities of historians. Chapters two, three and four focus on the historian's

The Importance Of Writing
Writing
Writing is a large part of understanding not just English, but all languages. It allows people to
communicate with each other, look at the past, and for the schematics used for technology and
buildings. Though many might distain the thought of it, writing is vital to everyday life and is a tool
used around the world.
Most forms of communication are in some form of writing, such as texting, typing, or writing a
letter. Whether it be through computer code or a common language every text based communication,
that is not vocal, is considered writing. Essentially, writing exists as the cogs that make text based
speech turn and without it the communication methods that are used every day would not exist.
These forms of writing also help foreign peoples understand the language used by any country they
might be in. This is possible due to language to language dictionaries, which have been applied all
around the world, and subtitles on news and tv shows. This creates a bridge between languages and
allows people to view the world through a different perspective. Writing is a key part to
understanding other languages and allowing people to communicate with one another.
History, whether recent or ancient, is what humans base most of their decisions from. History is

Howard Zinn Subjectivity
Subjectivity and Its Place in Historical Writings
Howard Zinn was an acclaimed historian and social rights activist, born in 1922. He has written
many well–known books, including A People's History of the United States and A People's History
of American Empire. The reason that these books are so well known is because Zinn is a very
special kind of historian. Unlike other historians who might be more objective about history and just
give you the straight facts, Zinn is openly partial in his account of history giving readers a more
subjective view of these events. This causes his writing to have a bias, much greater than what
usually comes naturally in history, and portray history from the side of the oppressed. This
undermines typical history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This right is given to citizens of the United States and humans across the globe by Article 19 of The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, written by the United Nations that govern our world
(United Nations, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19). We deserve to know facts
and nothing but facts, and use these facts to develop our own opinions on the facts presented to us.
By Zinn taking a partial point of view, the "omission of exculpatory evidence" about events in
history is utilized to persuade the reader into falling under the same opinion about an issue as he
does (Stanford.edu, David Plotnikoff). By doing this, Zinn's credibility is being flaunted as he might
leave out information that could completely change the opinion of the reader. However, it would be
completely impractical to have a very large book with all of history written upon thousands of
pages, but it is obvious that Zinn left out some key facts. For example, Zinn describes the
indigenous people of North America to be unbelievably pleasant. He constantly makes remarks
about how unbelievably welcoming they were to Columbus and how they simply survived blissfully
without the need commerce instead just sharing what they owned (Zinn, People's History, Page 1).
While this may be somewhat true, he never came close to discussing the amount of bloodshed
between some indigenous tribes like the Iroquois and the "savages" that was described in the writing
of Champlain in which rival tribes would battle in close quarters combat. Combat that caused many
fatalities among both tribes (Champlain). Although this does not change the fact that Columbus
murdered many people in his conquests and that the Spaniards acted upon them "like wolves, tigers
and lions which had been starving for many days," it still may change the opinion of many about the
indigenous population as a whole (La Casa). Another example of this omission occurs when Zinn
describes the

Herodotus and Sima Qian: Great Historians Essay
History writing has evolved much over time with the contributions of many people. In the modern
sense, it can be traced back to ancient Greece and China, where historians Herodotus and Sima Qian
began keeping records of human existence. Although they were not literally the first people to write
history, together they are named the first great historians of the Western world and the East because
of their individual innovations and extensive work that has long affected history writing up until this
day. There is much to debate when it comes to the greatness of these ancient historians, and although
some believe they were both important and successful in what their works, The Histories and The
Records of a Historian, accomplished, others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advancements he made while the act of recording the past was just beginning to flourish were
substantial enough to be considered still effective today. In his work called The Histories, Herodotus
explores a copious amount of topics while keeping not a word impartial and remaining thoroughly
unbiased. His main conflict was centered on the civilizations of the East and the West, a topic that
has been illustrated over and over again by many of his successors. Although in his time technology
was scarce, he took matters into his own hands and began to ask questions of the people at the
places he would write about and unveil their histories, customs, artwork, and buildings.
Herodotus marked a new way of recording and interpreting history: conducting research. He
recorded what he saw, heard, and experienced as he traveled around places like the Mediterranean
Sea, the Black Sea, and as far up as Babylon. He went on expeditions and encountered much of his
information through in person exchange, an accomplishment surely to be considered great. Martin
believes Herodotus explored an extensive amount of history and peoples and showcased a spectrum
of topics like "war, politics, religion, commerce, geography, climate, ethnography, and individual
human motivations" (Martin 7). In his writings called The Histories, Herodotus begins with The
Story of Croesus and

Comparing Herodotus's The Histories And The Middle Ages
From the dawn of historical writing to present day, one of the key questions has been over historical
truthfulness. A modern day historian cannot look back to Ancient societies and be able to fully
reflect the truth of its history. However, through thorough research and academic inferencing
historians can come up with the most probable version of truth. With this, history throughout the
ages has been written in a number of different ways resulting in the need to find truth. Specifically,
this paper will focus its evaluation on Classical antiquity using Herodotus's The Histories and the
Middle Ages analyzing Gregory of Tours', History of The Franks and how each one's historical
writing created a far different narrative of history. Thus, it will be found that the historical writing of
Classical Antiquity differs much from the historical writing of the Middle Ages in regards to each
one's historical truth and factual nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Herodotus's The Histories, Herodotus had the intent to provide a truthful and factual historical
account that does not "pass[] judgment". However, in Tours', History of The Franks, the intent is
severely intertwined with religion. Religion is arguably the central role of the text, Tours himself
strongly announced that he was a devout catholic. Thus, it becomes extremely apparent that Tours'
writing holds little 'factual' truth compared to the writing of Herodotus. This key problem is
introduced in historian John Arnold's History: A Very Short Introduction when Arnold points out that
religious historians in this period found factual and religious truth to be the same. Thus, while Tours'
believed that his writing was truthful, today his writing is seen as quite biased looking through a

Employee Writing History
In the early 1940's, the decrease of the writing skill was beginning to make an appearance along
with some of the first models of computers. Technology rapidly advanced and computers became a
necessity in everyday life. In today's society living without a computer would be difficult; most
employers will give a web address instead of a paper application, any information one could
possibly need is available with a few clicks of the mouse, and many teachers create their lesson
plans with educational videos and interactive programs inbetween the book work. However, writing
is still important; without writing employers would have poor applications, historians would lack
written documentation of history, and teachers would not be able to use a white board to teach a
lesson.
Writing in the work force is often over looked, but is one of the most important and easiest ways to
help a person get a job. Employers search through applications every day searching for someone that
has a resume that catches their attention. A well–rounded resume tells an employer that the applicant

Tacitus, And Enuma Elish: The Strategies Of Famous Writers

might be bias and take one side. In this essay, I will compare these three different writers' strategies,

Basic Writings In The History Of Psychology By Robert I....
Within "Basic Writings in the History of Psychology" by Robert I. Wilson, there is an excerpt from
John Locke. John Locke was an English philosopher who was one of the first to connect mechanical
principles to ideas in psychology. Locke mostly discusses how ideas are a result of both experience
and reflection, and the problems with our associations of ideas. There are a number of critical
aspects within the excerpt that allows one to understand his ideas and position on the topic. Each
critical aspect can be discussed in terms of what has been previously discussed in class. The excerpt
begins by stating that ideas are not innate, or something you are born with. Locke gives an example
of this when discussing babies and "idiots". He says that if ideas are innate, babies and "idiots" must
be unconscious to this fact on the grounds that they are never in use. Therefore, ideas are most likely
acquired and begin acquiring as soon as individuals are able to recollect memories. Our mind,
according to Locke, is comparable to a blank white piece of paper and that experience is that which
creates the characters on the page. Our individual experiences are what drives our ideas. Locke
discusses how our experiences are all derived from two sources: sensations, and reflections.
Sensations can be described as our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chip Murray Art History Summary
Phip Murray's art history writing, through which her lecture manifests, highlights a key concern for
the advocacy of an early settler, Marcus Clarke's, writing. In speaking through his work, she begins
to deconstruct her approach in analysing art history, or more specifically art history writing.
Unassuming, Murray eases the audience into the content of the lecture. She begins with general
interests sited across her writing. Enthused by the specificity of a place, culture and society at a
point in time, she unpacks how she translates a history to an audience who have experienced a
society and culture that is dissimilar in its respective displacement of time. Murray points to the use
of 'texture' in her writing as a gesture used to the forge authenticity of a place in history. To the
audience, it conveys an understanding that is closer to one of experience than scholarly. To Murray,
'texture' exposes readers to the voice and words, extracted from and specific to a place and society in
an attempt to guide a nuanced understanding at that point in history. An accent that has evolved over
time or specific to a class, a quote, an object or words that were common place, now seldom heard
of, are a powerful tool in Murray's writing to communicate what otherwise cannot be expressed.
These moments, extracted from history, are inevitably experienced in the research of an art history
writer. For the purpose of the reader, Murray intends to carry through key moments as what she
describes 'capsules' of history in her writing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

History With The Writing Of Trauma
American historian Dominick LaCapra closely connects the writing of history with the writing of
trauma. Sacco succeeds at "reconstructing the past as objectively as possible" (LaCapra 186),
particularly when depicting victim's testimonies. It is under this framework that allows Sacco to
include this type of tragic humor; he is not poking fun at the civilians/victims, but instead reveals the
absurdity of the entire war. The conflict stirred when Serbs and Bosnians wanted control of the same
territory. When both parties could not settle the conflict peacefully, a war broke out, which was
further exacerbated by a long history of ethnic tension. When Edin recounts the outbreak of the war
in the chapter 'Brotherhood and Unity', the bottom right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he does not necessarily belong in Bosnia, he is not trying to blend into the crowd.
However, as demonstrated by his interactions with Edin's friends, there is an atmosphere of laughter,
illustrated by the characters' grotesque drunk smiles–indicating that humor can be a bonding
mechanism. It can also take up the form of an escape from reality. The many parties that Edin's
friends throw provide a pause from war and the hardships of living, even if just for brief moments.
The chapter 'Silly Girls Part 1' clearly represents young Bosnian girls' fixation with "boy troubles",
and American culture, such as Levi's jeans and tabloid magazines. At first glance, the chapter looks
as if it will be lighthearted and entertaining, simply because of the smiling faces of the "silly girls"
and Sacco's cringeworthy flirtations. From a Western standpoint, this fixation is amusing–it portrays
these young girls as ordinary teenage girls. The only difference is that their situation is far from
ordinary. Once again, Salmi's suggestion that war can change perspectives comes to mind. Not only
have these young girls in 'Silly Girls Part 1' have had their boyfriends taken away from them due to
war, they have had their youth stripped away from them. The war has forced the girls to mature;
instead of the conventional responsibilities of teenagers, they face new responsibilities such as their

Petroglyphs Writing History
The idea of communicating ideas between people and generations is not a new one, for millennia
stories, advice, knowledge, has been passed from generation to generation; first orally, then through
petroglyphs, and finally handwriting. Although true handwriting has existed for five thousand years;
first invented by the Sumerians as "a means of long distance communication which was necessitated
by trade" (Mark, Joshua J. "Writing." Ancient History Encyclopedia. Ancient History Encyclopedia,
28 Apr. 2011), it may not be the first form of writing ever invented. Some scholars argue that the
petroglyphs found on cave walls in France and Spain were the first form of writing, these paintings
were pictograms, depicting not only a hunt, but, some theorize, the location of hunts, who
participated, and sometimes even contained, or may have contained, a lesson. "Don't hunt buffalo
here unless you have a hunting party", "Dangerous Mammoth, kill many hunters", "Good water
near, many deer come drink". (Gaur, Albertine. "Non–linguistic Forms of Writing." Literacy and the
Politics of Writing. Bristol, UK: Intellect, 2000. 16–29. Print.) These petroglyphs helped the

Formal Writing History
My history with formal writing: A challenging subject I had been putting off the research paper as
long as I could, now I was in real trouble. The night before the due date and all I had was my name
and four blank pages. The essay was to summarize the life of a famous person in history. The topic
was not the problem; it was my procrastination. I had always been good about getting my homework
done in time except when it came to formal writing. Formal writing has always been hard for me
because of the formatting and citing, I am hoping this class will help me overcome these obstacles
and make writing fun and enjoyable. I will first tell you about my history with formal writing, then I

Writing : Praxis And Performance By Greg Dening
Of the many wonderful fragments of wisdom in Greg Dening's article 'Writing: Praxis and
Performance', which details how to produce appealing and creative historical prose, I believe one
stands out above the rest. Be mysterious, he tells us. I'd be a fool not to take this on board. With that
in mind, I wish to begin with a small mystery of my own. "He has married many women, but has
never been married. Who is he?" Listen closely, and you might just find out.
In many ways, analysing this article is the most straightforward task I will undertake in my
academic career. I mean, everything I could possibly need to know is explained to me, right there in
the article. It is a self–perpetuating prophecy, describing in stunning and florid detail precisely how
to write about it. It provides concise and understandable lists of tips, rules, and guidelines for
historical writing. And it does all this in engaging, challenging, and imaginative ways. Really, as
long as I actually read the thing, it should be impossible to go wrong. How could I fail?
Nevertheless, presenting this article is also particularly intimidating. Can I live up to that? Can I
actually follow these rules, take on board and rearticulate the wealth of advice? Much like history
itself, I view this is an enticing paradox, one which I wholly intend to embrace. So, as Dening
himself astutely observes, "...let me give some advice on writing, and you can see for yourself
whether I take my own advice." That said, it would be

The Writing Of History Is Not An Easy Task That Can Make...
"Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it." Oscar Wilde states that the writing of
history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are
incorporated into many authors' writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically
littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look
at the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter
of a specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased
towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author's
position on the topic. This essay will highlight the biases that occur in histiography in everyday
writing and how they may affect how audiences perceive a certain event in history. Specifically, an
international event that was reported by various different countries is Saudia Arabia's decision to
execute Prince Turki bin Sad al–Kabir. This event occured on October 18, 2016. Executing a
member of the royal family is considered to be rare in Saudia Arabia, as the last time it has
happened was in 1975, where Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was beheaded for taking the
life of King Faisal. (North Korea Times, October 20, 2016). The method in which the prince was
executed was not revealed to the public, but other cases of the death sentence in Saudia Arabia were

History of the Viola's Role in Part-Writing for Chamber Music

Mini–Research Paper #2
History of the Viola's Role in Part–Writing for Chamber Music
There is considerable debate amongst scholars as to whether the birth of the viola preceded or
succeeded that of the violin. However, iconographic and documentary evidence indicate that the
violin, viola, and cello most likely evolved together as a family of instruments very early in the
sixteenth century and almost certainly in northern Italy.
Part–writing for the viola in chamber music has changed dramatically over time. By the end of the
seventeenth century, while the violin had remained popular in chamber music, the viola was very
much neglected. It was not until the end of the eighteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The end of the eighteenth century marked a change in the treatment of the viola in chamber music.
The change "came about partly because a basic concept of late eighteenth century chamber music
was that a single player played each part (thus setting chamber music apart from the orchestra where
each string part . . . was played by several players)."[2] A greater equality of part writing can be
observed in the mature chamber music, especially string quartets, of Mozart and Beethoven. In
Mozart's last string quartet (K. 590, 1790), the part writing is equalized, and solos are given to the
viola, with a considerable degree of virtuosity demanded of the instrument. In the passage below, the
first violin states the melody and then two bars later the viola plays the same passage just an octave
lower. Example 1. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, String Quartet no. 23, k. 590, 1st Movement, mm.

This example clearly demonstrates equal part–writing for the viola with that of the violin or the
other instruments. In conclusion, it is difficult to answer the question as to why the viola fell out of
favor in chamber music from the time period following its birth in the early sixteenth century to the
end of the seventeenth century. One possible reason is that no parts of

How I Reflect My Academic Writing History
Task 1. When I reflect on my academic writing history, I can vividly remember the name of the
people that shape my attitude, belief or emotion about writing. It all began, when I was in 6th grade.
My teacher at the time, Mrs Postma, would gave us spelling quiz on Fridays. At first, I hated it so
much because for one, I just came straight from Togo, and secondly, I'm just starting to learn
English words. The words she would quiz us on are words that we had spent the week learning.
Sometimes, she would give us hints on difficult words, but still I was struggling to understand those
hints. We did this twice in every month for the entire year. At the end of the school year, my view on
these vocabularies changed. I enjoyed the quizzes and began speaking fluently in English by the end
of the year. A couple years later, I started high school and during my freshman year, my teacher,
Mrs. Sisco would have us turn in a book report every week. She would challenge us and she grades
hard; it is not easy to get an A in her class. Because of this, I always work hard to write well so that I
could get A, but I never seem to get it until the second semester of my freshman year. Mrs. Sisco is
one of those teachers that shape my attitude on writing. She did not let me get A with anything I
turned in. Although I'm not best at writing yet, I know I would not be where I am in writing today
without her critics, challenges and of course the help of God.

A History Of Literacy : Reading And Writing Essay
Libby McDougald
Professor Kelli O'Brien
English 1010

A History of Literacy Reading and writing have been in our lives and around our lives ever since the
beginning of time. It is something we are naturally born into. Almost every human being has
performed some type of reading or writing, whether they live in the big city, or whether they live in
the woods. They have all performed some form of reading or writing in their life. It is human nature.
We are born into it. I have many memories of reading and writing, though I may not be very fond of
it when it concerns schoolwork, it is something I have naturally adjusted to and it somehow has
made me, and probably everyone else around me as well, who we are today.
I have memories of using literacy all the way back to when I was a toddler to now. Reading and
writing always came easy to me as little kid from what I can remember. My earliest memories of
reading would be from when I was very young, possibly still a toddler or a tad bit older. Every night
before bed, my mom and I would sit in my bed, she would read to me. We read Bible stories from
the children's Bible, Goodnight Moon, Cat in the Hat and many other children's books. That was my
favorite part about bedtime when I was little. Although she was reading to me, and all I was doing
was listening and wanting to look at the pictures, her reading to me every night was a huge influence
for me and was what made me want to learn how to read. I would without

A Writing History
Every great writer, whether it is a poet, novelist, journalist, or any other type will share a common
beginning with every person, this I see. Where they take it from there is up to them, the choice is
free. The common beginning is simple, even quite easy. It usually starts in kindergarten learning the
ABC's. From there you learn to form and read words–the first step of literacy. In my opinion,
writing can be fun, but it did not always seem that way to me. This paper will give a brief
background on my steps in the writing experience; this is my writing history.

What I was writing was not as important to me as how I made it look. That's where all my time and
focus was spent. I was given a good opportunity to get into writing in the years that followed fifth
grade. This opportunity was given to me in the form of journal writing in junior high (grades 6,7,
and 8). A few people every day would read their journal out loud and you can tell that some of them
really got into. I however, am sorry to say I let the chance pass me by. The journals had a given
subjects to write about but they weren't mandatory. I remember this one kid, Peter. Instead of writing
about the journal topic he would write a Star Wars story. This other kid, Joey, reminded me of
"Pinky and The Brain." He would always write about ways to try and take over the world–again and
again. Looking back I wish I had been as creative as those two young men. Instead I blew off the
journal writing. To me it was just another busy work assignment.
During that whole time period from, fifth grade through junior high, I had mainly listened to rap.
Then rap was music to me and that was that. It had no special purpose in my life. It did start to have
a special influence on me when high school came around. In rap my passion for writing was found.
For years I had been listening to great rappers such as the Guru from Gangstarr and the GZA (Giza)
from Wu–Tang Clan. Then came ninth grade. That is when I started writing off the foundation they
had laid. I started writing

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Standardized Writing System
Writing has constituted an important practice in human culture since the earliest forms of writing
were discovered from cave paintings made 40,000 years ago. Writing enables writers to express
themselves in a writing system that conveys unique features of its associated culture. In this context,
'writing' means a standardized system for recording, in a specific language, content ranging from
values to ideas to poems, etc. Humans have communicated in thousands of languages throughout
history and consequently devised numerous different writing systems for expressing those
languages. To facilitate easier communication, it has sometimes been suggested that the world adopt
a single writing system capable of representing all languages. This essay ... Show more content on

This is an over–optimistic and naïve argument, however, for at least three reasons. Most particularly,
a standardized writing system might seem ideal, but it cannot overcome the enormous difficulties
brought about by requiring the world's citizens to learn a new writing system. This is because
learning writing systems is very challenging, laborious and time–consuming (Tzeng & Wang, 1983);
this is even more the case for adult learners, who might anyway see little benefit and much
disadvantage from the additional financial expense of learning a new writing system when they are
already expert users of their written language. A second reason why a universal writing system is
ill–advised is because languages are living things that evolve slowly over time; there never can be a
'standard' writing system while cultures are continually developing new forms of expression. This
can be seen from the fact that the Chinese writing system has already undergone several evolutions
over the centuries. Thirdly, the argument for standardizing a writing system is naïve because it
entails controversial political decisions. No doubt the powerful nations of the East would prefer a
logographic or a syllabic writing system while their Western counterparts would prefer an alphabetic
writing system. Each 'side' would therefore favour its existing writing system to minimize disruption
and to ensure forms of cultural hegemony. Taken together, these three arguments demonstrate the
impracticality of a universal writing system and highlight the difficulties such a system would

History : A New Form Of History
Doing History Essay:
Up until the early nineteenth–century, history had been written in two dominant traditions, "one
predominantly learned and antiquarian, the other essentially literary". However, a postmodern shift
in historiography has led to a new form of history, namely 'disobedient histories'. 'Disobedient
history' as a new form of history moves away from Leopold Von Ranke's ideas of history being a
rigorous scientific inquiry towards a more diverse and cultured form. Some of these forms include
graphic novels, photo journals, dramatised series of events or blog posts. My output was the latter,
my blog post was designed to analyse literary and artistic form of memory in the Holocaust, and the
problems the forms present. By choosing the medium of a blog post I aimed to challenge traditional
academic rules, to use a medium that would serve to democratise history for the modern era, and
also to create conversation with the wider socio cultural scene; with the argument also pertaining to
'disobedient history' as a recognisable form of history method and writing.
As expected, the blog that has been created is not a traditional academic form of historical writing;
however, new works in the field of historical writing may argue differently. In the traditional
orthodox view of history, there has been a refusal to consider historical narratives as a manifestation
of 'verbal fictions'. As Hayden White describes "verbal fictions, the contents of which are as much

History Writing : The Roaring Twenties
Nicolette Johnston Mr. Boardman History Writing Lab Period 6 January 8, 2015 WA #4 The 1920s,
also known as the "Roaring Twenties", was a time period of great prosperity. During the 1920s,
major changes occurred. The Twenties marked the start of a new lifestyle for the world, in which
styles such as appearances were different, the system of money changed, and things were viewed
much differently than they were in past generations. There was a major shift in living conditions
when people went from living in rural areas to urban areas, in which the "big city" became the
center of affairs. Although the 1920s were a new and exciting time period, they caused much
conflict for the people of past generations who were not used to this great change. The 1920s, or the
"Roaring Twenties", evolved to be known as the "Decade of Prosperity". This title of the 1920s gave
credit to the new technologies, advanced medicine, and a flourishing economy. The "Decade of
Prosperity" came about when the younger people of the generation began to rebel against old laws
and traditions of the older people's generation. All of these new and upcoming inventions during this
time helped to build up the 1920s and make it prosper as much as possible. Although these profound

Writing history requires diligence, research, checking and rechecking the information and most of
all an understanding that no matter how hard a person tries their own beliefs, biases, and history will
color the information they are writing. Having the ability to trace the steps writers take to arrive at
certain conclusions helps the readers to assimilate the information with some degree of
understanding, if they choose to follow the research. This does not mean that everyone who reads
the material will arrive at the same conclusion, however, just as a writer has bias, so does the reader.

adumbrate that women are habitually invariably subordinate. Throughout the nineteenth century,
women were severely oppressed, repressed, and suppressed by society. Men influenced repression
of women's ideas because it was believed it did not count and held no value; an abundant amount of
women unfortunately agreed. An extensive amount of women were uneducated, and subsequently
this greatly impacted on their way of thinking. Although the women's suffrage movement was

Epic Of Gilgamesh, The Mayan Writing System, And The Indus...
Many people are curious about the past and rely on writing in order to discover the truths of the
world when it was young, but there are still some limitations. The importance of literature and
writing throughout the years becomes noticeable after discussing The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mayan
writing system, and the Indus River Valley. The significance of writing is the solid evidence it
provides to the major stories and beliefs during history, the history of ancestors and it provides
information how inventions have evolved from the past.
Before we could decipher the writing used in history, historians could only make theories of what
life was like at the beginning of human existence. The discovery of writing provides solid evidence
for historians to describe what life was like before our time. The writing discovered by historians

My Reading And Writing History
My Reading and Writing History pt.1
Just like with many aspects of myself many things helped in the contribution of my reading and
writing skills. It was a bit difficult in the beginning learning to read and write in English since I
learned to read and write in Spanish first. Both languages being pretty similar kind of screwed me
up as a child so it took me longer to learn to read and write in English. Which in turn is why I was
put in the ELD for many years. I did eventually test out of it before starting middle school, but that's
when my dislike for reading and writing started. Being in those programs they made us read and
write even more than the normal students would. I would think now that all that work should have
made me better at reading and writing but in turn it made me resent those very things and not any
better at them. Another thing that made it worse was my family status, things in my home were
complicated to say the least, but the way I was affected academically was because neither of my
parents really cared for my education, so I was never made to read or write at home. Those two main
things are where my dislike for both things originated. Since I never thought they were important
other than to just get a grade in a class. All these things helped contribute to the type of reader and
writer that I am today.
The main people that have shaped me as a reader and writer today were teachers since I got no help
at home. From what I have noticed however from k–12th

How Early Labor History Influenced Karl Marx's Writings

  • 1. How Did Early Labor History Influence The Writings Of Karl... Karl Marx may arguably be the founding father of labor history. If not, his ideas of class struggle and capitalism have certainly influenced many historians, not only labor historians, but social, environmental and cultural historians. Historians like E.P. Thompson and Christopher Hill were so influences that they were members of the Communist Party preceding the second World War. Other more contemporary American historians like Thomas G. Andrews are more overt in their appreciation and use of Marxist ideas, nevertheless, still implemented. Early labor histories like those offered by E.P. Thompson have numerous parallels compared to more contemporary interpretations similar to those presented by Thomas G. Andrews. Similarities include the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andrews effectively then back tracks as this event and the sentiment of dissatisfaction of the status quo was not isolated, but had roots in the 1880's. The idea of class consciousness is definitive in The Making of the English Working Class, E.P. Thompson devotes a whole chapter to its discussion. Though the two monographs occur in different time periods and focus on different events, it is not anachronistic to consider that both groups had a form of class consciousness. Thompson's definition of class consciousness is "the awareness of continuing, both old and new battles of their own." Some historians argue that class consciousness is not innately American. However, Andrews makes a good case that these coal miners were very much aware of their place in society. While Thompson argues that the English working class was self made, he also argued that labor shaped class. Andrews premise is that natural resources shaped class. In Killing for Coal, the sense of class consciousness was effected positively and negatively to the fact that the group was so ethnically diverse, compared to Thompson's analysis of the freeborn ... • 3. Memories Of The Past Has Influenced American History Memories of the past has influenced many of the early traditional historians in creating their ideas of early Texas History. Personal narratives passed on to historians became the foundation for many of the early writers in developing an early identity for the state. Unfortunately, many of the early histories supported and primarily Anglo culture and a Top–Down approach to history. Most of the early history was written relative to the Anglo viewpoint and biased opinions. Fortunately, many underrepresented cultures now have a voice and the capabilities to provide personal accounts and history as passed down within said culture. Now, new historians can use personal narratives and memories from within other cultures to validate or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Web was a son of teacher, spent allot of time farming and taking care of animals on farm in west Texas. He drew up poor on the range and was exposed to many cowboys with pistols and ranching. These early experiences influenced Webb in his writing and was based on his perception of what they were instead of what they were in actuality. J. Frank Dobie was one of three friends credited with "inventing" Texas Literature. Dobie, Roy Bedicheck and Walter P Webb.3 Inventing history instead of writing as it happened is another example of writing based on memory. Memories can be true or false but cannot necessary be understood as factual events. Most of his writings would be classified as folklore rather than history however he did have standards to his writing. Dobie demanded of historical writing: reality, vividness, authenticity, and readability.4 Unfortunately, readability may be an area that truths were distorted in favor of a entertainment or support of a higher Anglo cause. Yet because history, memory and personal accounts are entertaining, they will be passed on from each generation. History will continue because of the wide spread assumption that Texas history is colorful, unique, and expansive field of inquiry, filled with all sorts of narrative stories that provide good reading for demanding public.5 Selecting memories of our ... • 5. My Wordplay In My Writing History When it comes to my writing history the way I express my wordplay has changed a lot in the past year, from not being able to keep my paragraphs on topic to actually understanding how to use punition, this is my greatest achievement. The way I used to write was rattled with tons errors; so much so, that most of my essays were given back because the sentence structure was everywhere. Much like a book by Sean Penn, my ideas were in places that would leave the reader wondering how they got there. In all honesty, sentence structure has always been a clutch that held me back. With regards to this, I like to think that my writing has improved leaps from where I originally started. As I started learning better sentence structure, I began to build ... • 7. Plutarch's Life and Legendary Writings Essay Plutarch was a well–known historian, biographer, and essayist. Also, Plutarch was a Greek scholar, and today is considered to be a Middle Protanist. Clyde Curry Smith, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, tells readers "Plutarch was born sometime around 46 A.D. in Chaeronea, Boeotia" (Smith). Plutarch was born "around the Roman imperial administration of Claudius I"(Smith). It is also believed that Plutarch died around the age of 74, "sometime after 120 c.e."(Smith). Along with being a historian and essayist, Plutarch was also a priest, ambassador, mayor, and magistrate. Plutarch was born to a wealthy prominent family; he later married and is known to have at least two sons. During his time, Plutarch can be reflected as a celebrity ... Smith states, "of the seventy–eight essays, the average length is less than seven thousand words"(Smith). Though Plutarch has many recognizable and still existent writings, his style of writing is very important. Many people are intrigued with Plutarch's writing skills, and find they are very important. Plutarch usually wrote to explain an aspect of, some even about military matters. Also, readers can relate his writing style as trying to teach and persuade the reader to attain their morality or respectability in their own life, also known as philosophical. Walbank informs the reader about Plutarch's writing style "His style is predominantly Attic, influenced by the contemporary Greek that he spoke"(Walbank). Although Plutarch generally wrote about figures in the Greek and Roman society, some people believe his writing styles can be divided into four small groups. These four groups are depicted to be "at the request of his friends, for his own satisfaction, whose career may serve as a warning, and of the founding fathers and legislators of Greece and Rome"(Smith). Smith also tells us that "Plutarch understood d his main literary activity was to involve the education of men"(Smith). • 9. History Writing Prompt Analysis History Writing Prompt 2015–2016: Prompt 2 As the Revolutionary War faded in Gunner's memory, another image filled his mind. The smell was one they remembered from their adventures during the Revolutionary War. It was gunpowder! "Not another war", was all Gunner could think. As Gunner looked down, he saw that they were dressed in a Union uniform.... Boom! A cannon whizzed past my ear, nearly taking off my head! I looked around and saw death, from both sides, but mainly I saw more fatalities in men dressed in Union uniforms. After retreating, the general, whose name I found out to be Ulysses S. Grant, said that we had lost this battle, the Battle of Bull Run. He said we were located in the state of Virginia, and that we were to travel south, towards this state's capital, Richmond. For almost an entire year, we regained our strength, tended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Republicans don't want slavery to spread, and southerners base their living off of the work of slaves. Without them, they wouldn't have anyone to do the hard work for them. For that reason, the southern states started to secede," he finished. "Wow! But how did that start the war?" Gunner asked. "Lincoln said that to try to secede was very illegal. He even went further to say that he would hold the Union together by force if he had to, so I guess that called for an army, and an army usually calls for war," the soldier finished. "Speaking of war, get up soldiers! Today we march to Richmond to face our foes," General McClellan said. "I have a good feeling we'll crush those confederates!" he rallied. Knock on wood, many soldiers thought. The union soldiers marched to Richmond and the battle began. The Union soldiers quickly lost as General Lee began a series of attacks at Beaver Dam creek, which caught them off–guard. The next six days was a basic repeat of the day before, only in a new location, with more casualties and more fatalities. Two months later on Antietam ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. My Writing History: From My Migration To The United States My writing history How would I consider my writing history? When I first wrote an essay it was last semester on English 363. I had an opportunity to write an essay about emigration, and to describe my experience, thoughts, and feelings before and after I immigrated to the United States from Republic of Moldova in 2013. In ESL 363 we were required to write as much possible and to follow the prompt. To illustrate, grammar, vocabulary, transition signals, examples from our own experience, at least five paragraphs and to name a few. When I write an essay I usually make a graphic organizer which helps me to follow the prompt and to memorize the structure of an essay. Sometimes, I use synonyms to prevent repeating the same words all the time. Although, I like to add some quotes on my essay because that gives me an opportunity to explain the quote and to introduce my own point of view about it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. The War Of The World War II Going through the different levels of the educational system most everyone has talked about the Second World War in great detail. The European and Pacific Theaters were the main focus of many historians and their writing, because war pertained to the audience of the time. WWII revolved around the idea of freedom and liberating the fascist governments of Europe, the homefront back in the states was the war machine that kept the war churning. Millions of pages have been written about the experiences and battles during WWII, and still continue, not much in the way of the American homefront history has been written. Classical historicism reigned supreme early after the war, and historians saw that war was a major topic as it reflected the top down approach. This included looking at men such as, Patton, Eisenhower, and Hitler, and also telling the more economic side of war. As early as January, 1944 historians thought about the historiography of World War II. In The American Historical Review, historians geared up for the writing of this history. Some historians already thought about the American homefront. Though attempts in the 1940s were a start, nothing in the way of homefront writing came until the 1960s. These attempts merely focused upon how the homefront funded the war, metal production of the states, and how the American spirit was fueled by the homefront. 1960s historians did not go into depth of these areas until the 1970's and 1980's. • 15. Re Writing History And Rwandan Identity Through The Kigali... Re–writing History and Rwandan Identity Through the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre In April 2004, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre opened to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide. Peacefully overlooking the city of Kigali, the Centre seeks to be a place of remembrance and honor for survivors as well as a step towards creating Rwanda's post–genocide identity. Rwanda has sought to find its place politically, socially, and in memory through this westernized approach to remembrance. The museum is comprised of the display of a permanent exhibition, a memorial garden, a small library and documentation center, and a mass grave holding over 250,000 genocide victims who were killed in and around the city of Kigali during the 1994 genocide. Although the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre is poised to be an impactful space and place for remembrance and education, I will argue that it has become a place for revisionist history and political agendas to be promoted. Before the genocide of 1994, Rwanda had been a country of great political and social turmoil. Deep seeded ethnic tensions which had plagued Rwanda since its colonization, first by Germany and then Belgium, came to a devastating and bloody genocide in April 1994 in which, over a period of approximately 100 days, between 800,000 and one million Tutsi and Hutu people were left dead. Today scholars believe that there is no actual ethnic distinction between the two people groups aside from those assigned in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Analysis Of The Book ' Toward Perpetual Peace & Other... In the book, "Toward Perpetual Peace and Other Writings on politics, Peace and History", Immanuel Kant shows us that we can find purpose in a life that seems to lack purpose. By not presupposing individual purposiveness among humans, Kant discovers a natural purpose among "all" humanity. Through this fundamental idea, we can see that Kant discovers a universal history from a Cosmopolitan point of view. Cosmopolitanism centers around the idea that all of humanity belongs to a single community and is based on a mutual universal morality (among rational individuals). This essay will focus mainly on the arguments for purposiveness without purpose, specifically the arguments for purpose and their implications. Furthermore, the question this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "In the human being (as the only rational creature on earth), those natural predispositions aimed at the use of its reason are to be developed in full only in the species, but not in the individual. This can be interpreted in my perspective as genes. Since we are not immortal we must practice and perfect our skills, and by natures will, we pass our perfected genes on to the next generation so they may further perfect the skill in hopes of finding insight or enlightenment. If this is not to be nature's purpose for us, our natural capacities should be seen as "without direction" and useless. The Third Proposition states," Nature has willed that human beings produce everything that extends beyond the mechanical organization of their animal existence completely on their own, and that they shall not partake in any happiness or perfection other than that which they attain free of instinct and by means of their own reason " (Kant, p. 5). Through this premise Kant is saying that nature takes nothing for granted. She is neither wasteful nor reckless with means to her goal. By giving women and men reason and free will, nature entails our purpose. Furthermore, nature did not purpose for us to live guided by instinct, as we lack instinctive knowledge to nurture ourselves and must learn everything ourselves without instruction, which also entails our purpose as reasoning things who must reason to survive and eventually ... I Am Writing Mena Abduljabbar History 108 Mr. Solheim I am writing a paper that is talking about two Americans Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin, who are hard workers, and self–sacrificing as young men. they wrote personal narratives, in which they tell of youth happenings and of their adult attempting for moral perfection. The reasons I chose those two people are that they spent their lives searching for perfection. Edwards try to find perfection through God while Franklin improved himself through his own. Both believed in a godly creator, but they differed in how happiness was achieved, and they are two very appreciated authors nowadays, but they never had the desire of knowing one another in their own time. • 21. What The Title Of Hobsbawm 's Book Can Indicate At A First... Despite what the title of Hobsbawm's book can indicate at a first glance, his work is neither a step– by–step textbook of factual information about how history should be written nor a series of directly given guidelines that historians should follow. Instead it is a book composed of twenty–one essays that represent his own work transformed from their previous form as lectures, contributions to conferences or articles and reviews in different journals. As Hobsbawm himself explains, his reflections on history for the better of his fifty–year career in history have brought together this collection of papers. His essays deal with issues like the uses and abuses of history in both society and politics and concerns with historical interpretation while also looking at the history of the discipline itself from the 1890s –when it became an academic subject– to the newer historical trends and fashions like postmodernism. When looked at separately, the chapters in the book appear to be too different to fit in the same volume and developed by themselves each can form a new book. However, Hobsbawm explains his reasoning behind adding each of them to the book. Chapter one stands out as Hobsbawm addresses future generation of historians (it was at first an introductory lecture given at a university in Budapest), warning about the dangers of writing history wrongly and outlining the main responsibilities of historians. Chapters two, three and four focus on the historian's concern with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Importance Of Writing Writing Writing is a large part of understanding not just English, but all languages. It allows people to communicate with each other, look at the past, and for the schematics used for technology and buildings. Though many might distain the thought of it, writing is vital to everyday life and is a tool used around the world. Most forms of communication are in some form of writing, such as texting, typing, or writing a letter. Whether it be through computer code or a common language every text based communication, that is not vocal, is considered writing. Essentially, writing exists as the cogs that make text based speech turn and without it the communication methods that are used every day would not exist. These forms of writing also help foreign peoples understand the language used by any country they might be in. This is possible due to language to language dictionaries, which have been applied all around the world, and subtitles on news and tv shows. This creates a bridge between languages and allows people to view the world through a different perspective. Writing is a key part to understanding other languages and allowing people to communicate with one another. History, whether recent or ancient, is what humans base most of their decisions from. History is written pieces of knowledge that usually refer to other's mistakes or lack thereof that have helped the world chose wiser decisions. • 25. Howard Zinn Subjectivity Subjectivity and Its Place in Historical Writings Howard Zinn was an acclaimed historian and social rights activist, born in 1922. He has written many well–known books, including A People's History of the United States and A People's History of American Empire. The reason that these books are so well known is because Zinn is a very special kind of historian. Unlike other historians who might be more objective about history and just give you the straight facts, Zinn is openly partial in his account of history giving readers a more subjective view of these events. This causes his writing to have a bias, much greater than what usually comes naturally in history, and portray history from the side of the oppressed. This undermines typical history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This right is given to citizens of the United States and humans across the globe by Article 19 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, written by the United Nations that govern our world (United Nations, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19). We deserve to know facts and nothing but facts, and use these facts to develop our own opinions on the facts presented to us. By Zinn taking a partial point of view, the "omission of exculpatory evidence" about events in history is utilized to persuade the reader into falling under the same opinion about an issue as he does (Stanford.edu, David Plotnikoff). By doing this, Zinn's credibility is being flaunted as he might leave out information that could completely change the opinion of the reader. However, it would be completely impractical to have a very large book with all of history written upon thousands of pages, but it is obvious that Zinn left out some key facts. For example, Zinn describes the indigenous people of North America to be unbelievably pleasant. He constantly makes remarks about how unbelievably welcoming they were to Columbus and how they simply survived blissfully without the need commerce instead just sharing what they owned (Zinn, People's History, Page 1). While this may be somewhat true, he never came close to discussing the amount of bloodshed between some indigenous tribes like the Iroquois and the "savages" that was described in the writing of Champlain in which rival tribes would battle in close quarters combat. Combat that caused many fatalities among both tribes (Champlain). Although this does not change the fact that Columbus murdered many people in his conquests and that the Spaniards acted upon them "like wolves, tigers and lions which had been starving for many days," it still may change the opinion of many about the indigenous population as a whole (La Casa). Another example of this omission occurs when Zinn describes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Herodotus and Sima Qian: Great Historians Essay History writing has evolved much over time with the contributions of many people. In the modern sense, it can be traced back to ancient Greece and China, where historians Herodotus and Sima Qian began keeping records of human existence. Although they were not literally the first people to write history, together they are named the first great historians of the Western world and the East because of their individual innovations and extensive work that has long affected history writing up until this day. There is much to debate when it comes to the greatness of these ancient historians, and although some believe they were both important and successful in what their works, The Histories and The Records of a Historian, accomplished, others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The advancements he made while the act of recording the past was just beginning to flourish were substantial enough to be considered still effective today. In his work called The Histories, Herodotus explores a copious amount of topics while keeping not a word impartial and remaining thoroughly unbiased. His main conflict was centered on the civilizations of the East and the West, a topic that has been illustrated over and over again by many of his successors. Although in his time technology was scarce, he took matters into his own hands and began to ask questions of the people at the places he would write about and unveil their histories, customs, artwork, and buildings. Herodotus marked a new way of recording and interpreting history: conducting research. He recorded what he saw, heard, and experienced as he traveled around places like the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and as far up as Babylon. He went on expeditions and encountered much of his information through in person exchange, an accomplishment surely to be considered great. Martin believes Herodotus explored an extensive amount of history and peoples and showcased a spectrum of topics like "war, politics, religion, commerce, geography, climate, ethnography, and individual human motivations" (Martin 7). • 29. Comparing Herodotus's The Histories And The Middle Ages From the dawn of historical writing to present day, one of the key questions has been over historical truthfulness. A modern day historian cannot look back to Ancient societies and be able to fully reflect the truth of its history. However, through thorough research and academic inferencing historians can come up with the most probable version of truth. With this, history throughout the ages has been written in a number of different ways resulting in the need to find truth. Specifically, this paper will focus its evaluation on Classical antiquity using Herodotus's The Histories and the Middle Ages analyzing Gregory of Tours', History of The Franks and how each one's historical writing created a far different narrative of history. Thus, it will be found that the historical writing of Classical Antiquity differs much from the historical writing of the Middle Ages in regards to each one's historical truth and factual nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Herodotus's The Histories, Herodotus had the intent to provide a truthful and factual historical account that does not "pass[] judgment". However, in Tours', History of The Franks, the intent is severely intertwined with religion. Religion is arguably the central role of the text, Tours himself strongly announced that he was a devout catholic. Thus, it becomes extremely apparent that Tours' writing holds little 'factual' truth compared to the writing of Herodotus. This key problem is introduced in historian John Arnold's History: A Very Short Introduction when Arnold points out that religious historians in this period found factual and religious truth to be the same. Thus, while Tours' believed that his writing was truthful, today his writing is seen as quite biased looking through a primarily Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology rapidly advanced and computers became a necessity in everyday life. In today's society living without a computer would be difficult; most employers will give a web address instead of a paper application, any information one could possibly need is available with a few clicks of the mouse, and many teachers create their lesson plans with educational videos and interactive programs inbetween the book work. However, writing is still important; without writing employers would have poor applications, historians would lack written documentation of history, and teachers would not be able to use a white board to teach a lesson. John Locke was an English philosopher who was one of the first to connect mechanical principles to ideas in psychology. Locke mostly discusses how ideas are a result of both experience and reflection, and the problems with our associations of ideas. There are a number of critical aspects within the excerpt that allows one to understand his ideas and position on the topic. Each critical aspect can be discussed in terms of what has been previously discussed in class. The excerpt begins by stating that ideas are not innate, or something you are born with. Locke gives an example of this when discussing babies and "idiots". He says that if ideas are innate, babies and "idiots" must be unconscious to this fact on the grounds that they are never in use. Therefore, ideas are most likely acquired and begin acquiring as soon as individuals are able to recollect memories. Our mind, according to Locke, is comparable to a blank white piece of paper and that experience is that which creates the characters on the page. Our individual experiences are what drives our ideas. Chip Murray Art History Summary Phip Murray's art history writing, through which her lecture manifests, highlights a key concern for the advocacy of an early settler, Marcus Clarke's, writing. In speaking through his work, she begins to deconstruct her approach in analysing art history, or more specifically art history writing. Unassuming, Murray eases the audience into the content of the lecture. She begins with general interests sited across her writing. Enthused by the specificity of a place, culture and society at a point in time, she unpacks how she translates a history to an audience who have experienced a society and culture that is dissimilar in its respective displacement of time. Murray points to the use of 'texture' in her writing as a gesture used to the forge authenticity of a place in history. To the audience, it conveys an understanding that is closer to one of experience than scholarly. To Murray, 'texture' exposes readers to the voice and words, extracted from and specific to a place and society in an attempt to guide a nuanced understanding at that point in history. An accent that has evolved over time or specific to a class, a quote, an object or words that were common place, now seldom heard of, are a powerful tool in Murray's writing to communicate what otherwise cannot be expressed. These moments, extracted from history, are inevitably experienced in the research of an art history writer. Sacco succeeds at "reconstructing the past as objectively as possible" (LaCapra 186), particularly when depicting victim's testimonies. It is under this framework that allows Sacco to include this type of tragic humor; he is not poking fun at the civilians/victims, but instead reveals the absurdity of the entire war. The conflict stirred when Serbs and Bosnians wanted control of the same territory. When both parties could not settle the conflict peacefully, a war broke out, which was further exacerbated by a long history of ethnic tension. It can also take up the form of an escape from reality. The many parties that Edin's friends throw provide a pause from war and the hardships of living, even if just for brief moments. The chapter 'Silly Girls Part 1' clearly represents young Bosnian girls' fixation with "boy troubles", and American culture, such as Levi's jeans and tabloid magazines. At first glance, the chapter looks as if it will be lighthearted and entertaining, simply because of the smiling faces of the "silly girls" and Sacco's cringeworthy flirtations. From a Western standpoint, this fixation is amusing–it portrays these young girls as ordinary teenage girls. The only difference is that their situation is far from ordinary. Once again, Salmi's suggestion that war can change perspectives comes to mind. Not only have these young girls in 'Silly Girls Part 1' have had their boyfriends taken away from them due to war, they have had their youth stripped away from them. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are incorporated into many authors' writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author's position on the topic. History of the Viola's Role in Part-Writing for Chamber Music Carolyn Hunter Music 700 November 1, 2009 Mini–Research Paper #2 History of the Viola's Role in Part–Writing for Chamber Music There is considerable debate amongst scholars as to whether the birth of the viola preceded or succeeded that of the violin. However, iconographic and documentary evidence indicate that the violin, viola, and cello most likely evolved together as a family of instruments very early in the sixteenth century and almost certainly in northern Italy. Part–writing for the viola in chamber music has changed dramatically over time. By the end of the seventeenth century, while the violin had remained popular in chamber music, the viola was very much neglected. It was not until the end of the eighteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The end of the eighteenth century marked a change in the treatment of the viola in chamber music. The change "came about partly because a basic concept of late eighteenth century chamber music was that a single player played each part (thus setting chamber music apart from the orchestra where each string part . . . was played by several players)."[2] A greater equality of part writing can be observed in the mature chamber music, especially string quartets, of Mozart and Beethoven. In Mozart's last string quartet (K. 590, 1790), the part writing is equalized, and solos are given to the viola, with a considerable degree of virtuosity demanded of the instrument. In the passage below, the first violin states the melody and then two bars later the viola plays the same passage just an octave lower. Example 1. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, String Quartet no. 23, k. 590, 1st Movement, mm. 51–54[3] [pic] This example clearly demonstrates equal part–writing for the viola with that of the violin or the other instruments. • 56. How I Reflect My Academic Writing History Task 1. When I reflect on my academic writing history, I can vividly remember the name of the people that shape my attitude, belief or emotion about writing. It all began, when I was in 6th grade. My teacher at the time, Mrs Postma, would gave us spelling quiz on Fridays. At first, I hated it so much because for one, I just came straight from Togo, and secondly, I'm just starting to learn English words. The words she would quiz us on are words that we had spent the week learning. Sometimes, she would give us hints on difficult words, but still I was struggling to understand those hints. We did this twice in every month for the entire year. At the end of the school year, my view on these vocabularies changed. I enjoyed the quizzes and began speaking fluently in English by the end of the year. A couple years later, I started high school and during my freshman year, my teacher, Mrs. Sisco would have us turn in a book report every week. She would challenge us and she grades hard; it is not easy to get an A in her class. Because of this, I always work hard to write well so that I could get A, but I never seem to get it until the second semester of my freshman year. Mrs. Sisco is one of those teachers that shape my attitude on writing. She did not let me get A with anything I turned in. Although I'm not best at writing yet, I know I would not be where I am in writing today without her critics, challenges and of course the help of God. Task 2: Looking back at my life and the ... A History Of Literacy : Reading And Writing Essay Libby McDougald Professor Kelli O'Brien English 1010 27 September 2015 A History of Literacy Reading and writing have been in our lives and around our lives ever since the beginning of time. It is something we are naturally born into. Almost every human being has performed some type of reading or writing, whether they live in the big city, or whether they live in the woods. They have all performed some form of reading or writing in their life. It is human nature. We are born into it. I have many memories of reading and writing, though I may not be very fond of it when it concerns schoolwork, it is something I have naturally adjusted to and it somehow has made me, and probably everyone else around me as well, who we are today. I have memories of using literacy all the way back to when I was a toddler to now. Reading and writing always came easy to me as little kid from what I can remember. My earliest memories of reading would be from when I was very young, possibly still a toddler or a tad bit older. Every night before bed, my mom and I would sit in my bed, she would read to me. We read Bible stories from the children's Bible, Goodnight Moon, Cat in the Hat and many other children's books. That was my favorite part about bedtime when I was little. Although she was reading to me, and all I was doing was listening and wanting to look at the pictures, her reading to me every night was a huge influence for me and was what made me want to learn how to read. I would without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. My Writing History We all have dreams. My mother always dreamed of being a teacher; however, life took her for another turn and her dreams were not fulfilled. She became a stay at home mom instead. She used me to achieve her dreams of being a teacher; therefore, I became her student. From the age of three, she began to teach me the basics of reading and writing. By the time I started kindergarten, I was very advanced in reading for my age. My first day of school, I was appalled when my classmates could not read simple words. Did their mothers not teach them to read like mine had? This was the start to my reading and writing journey. My writing history has had a significant influence on my current writing strengths, weaknesses, and style. As a human, we all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. A Writing History Essay A Writing History Every great writer, whether it is a poet, novelist, journalist, or any other type will share a common beginning with every person, this I see. Where they take it from there is up to them, the choice is free. The common beginning is simple, even quite easy. It usually starts in kindergarten learning the ABC's. From there you learn to form and read words–the first step of literacy. In my opinion, writing can be fun, but it did not always seem that way to me. This paper will give a brief background on my steps in the writing experience; this is my writing history. Kindergarten, the first step. This is where I started to hate writing; it all began with the alphabet. Writing had a bad first impression on me. Every day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What I was writing was not as important to me as how I made it look. That's where all my time and focus was spent. I was given a good opportunity to get into writing in the years that followed fifth grade. This opportunity was given to me in the form of journal writing in junior high (grades 6,7, and 8). A few people every day would read their journal out loud and you can tell that some of them really got into. I however, am sorry to say I let the chance pass me by. The journals had a given subjects to write about but they weren't mandatory. I remember this one kid, Peter. Instead of writing about the journal topic he would write a Star Wars story. This other kid, Joey, reminded me of "Pinky and The Brain." He would always write about ways to try and take over the world–again and again. Looking back I wish I had been as creative as those two young men. Instead I blew off the journal writing. To me it was just another busy work assignment. During that whole time period from, fifth grade through junior high, I had mainly listened to rap. Then rap was music to me and that was that. It had no special purpose in my life. It did start to have a special influence on me when high school came around. In rap my passion for writing was found. For years I had been listening to great rappers such as the Guru from Gangstarr and the GZA (Giza) from Wu–Tang Clan. Then came ninth grade. That is when I started writing off the foundation they had laid. I started writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Standardized Writing System Writing has constituted an important practice in human culture since the earliest forms of writing were discovered from cave paintings made 40,000 years ago. Writing enables writers to express themselves in a writing system that conveys unique features of its associated culture. In this context, 'writing' means a standardized system for recording, in a specific language, content ranging from values to ideas to poems, etc. Humans have communicated in thousands of languages throughout history and consequently devised numerous different writing systems for expressing those languages. To facilitate easier communication, it has sometimes been suggested that the world adopt a single writing system capable of representing all languages. This essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an over–optimistic and naïve argument, however, for at least three reasons. Most particularly, a standardized writing system might seem ideal, but it cannot overcome the enormous difficulties brought about by requiring the world's citizens to learn a new writing system. This is because learning writing systems is very challenging, laborious and time–consuming (Tzeng & Wang, 1983); this is even more the case for adult learners, who might anyway see little benefit and much disadvantage from the additional financial expense of learning a new writing system when they are already expert users of their written language. A second reason why a universal writing system is ill–advised is because languages are living things that evolve slowly over time; there never can be a 'standard' writing system while cultures are continually developing new forms of expression. This can be seen from the fact that the Chinese writing system has already undergone several evolutions over the centuries. Thirdly, the argument for standardizing a writing system is naïve because it entails controversial political decisions. No doubt the powerful nations of the East would prefer a logographic or a syllabic writing system while their Western counterparts would prefer an alphabetic writing system. Each 'side' would therefore favour its existing writing system to minimize disruption and to ensure forms of cultural hegemony. Taken together, these three arguments demonstrate the impracticality of a universal writing system and highlight the difficulties such a system would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. History : A New Form Of History Doing History Essay: Up until the early nineteenth–century, history had been written in two dominant traditions, "one predominantly learned and antiquarian, the other essentially literary". However, a postmodern shift in historiography has led to a new form of history, namely 'disobedient histories'. 'Disobedient history' as a new form of history moves away from Leopold Von Ranke's ideas of history being a rigorous scientific inquiry towards a more diverse and cultured form. Some of these forms include graphic novels, photo journals, dramatised series of events or blog posts. My output was the latter, my blog post was designed to analyse literary and artistic form of memory in the Holocaust, and the problems the forms present. By choosing the medium of a blog post I aimed to challenge traditional academic rules, to use a medium that would serve to democratise history for the modern era, and also to create conversation with the wider socio cultural scene; with the argument also pertaining to 'disobedient history' as a recognisable form of history method and writing. As expected, the blog that has been created is not a traditional academic form of historical writing; however, new works in the field of historical writing may argue differently. In the traditional orthodox view of history, there has been a refusal to consider historical narratives as a manifestation of 'verbal fictions'. As Hayden White describes "verbal fictions, the contents of which are as much invented as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

History Writing : The Roaring Twenties Nicolette Johnston Mr. Boardman History Writing Lab Period 6 January 8, 2015 WA #4 The 1920s, also known as the "Roaring Twenties", was a time period of great prosperity. During the 1920s, major changes occurred. The Twenties marked the start of a new lifestyle for the world, in which styles such as appearances were different, the system of money changed, and things were viewed much differently than they were in past generations. There was a major shift in living conditions when people went from living in rural areas to urban areas, in which the "big city" became the center of affairs. Although the 1920s were a new and exciting time period, they caused much conflict for the people of past generations who were not used to this great change. The 1920s, or the "Roaring Twenties", evolved to be known as the "Decade of Prosperity". This title of the 1920s gave credit to the new technologies, advanced medicine, and a flourishing economy. The "Decade of Prosperity" came about when the younger people of the generation began to rebel against old laws and traditions of the older people's generation. All of these new and upcoming inventions during this time helped to build up the 1920s and make it prosper as much as possible. Although these profound inventions and technologies helped benefit The Twenties, they had a major downside to them as well. New types of cars and ways of transportation inflicted a major trafficking problem. People who were not used to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Writing history requires diligence, research, checking and rechecking the information and most of all an understanding that no matter how hard a person tries their own beliefs, biases, and history will color the information they are writing. Having the ability to trace the steps writers take to arrive at certain conclusions helps the readers to assimilate the information with some degree of understanding, if they choose to follow the research. This does not mean that everyone who reads the material will arrive at the same conclusion, however, just as a writer has bias, so does the reader. Bibliography 2005. ""Social Darwinism." Writings throughout history adumbrate that women are habitually invariably subordinate. Throughout the nineteenth century, women were severely oppressed, repressed, and suppressed by society. Men influenced repression of women's ideas because it was believed it did not count and held no value; an abundant amount of women unfortunately agreed. An extensive amount of women were uneducated, and subsequently this greatly impacted on their way of thinking. Although the women's suffrage movement was prominent, an abundant amount of women, in my opinion, were negatively influenced by society as a whole. Within literature, writings oppressed women, and belittled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout her writings women assume and embrace roles that can be considered as madness. There were fast past societal changes during late nineteenth century; "No doubt this had something to do with modernity and its intrinsic insistence on change, and no doubt it had something to do with the actions of women themselves, with their desire to break out of the limits imposed on their sex."(Loyno) Her infamous stories such as "The Kiss", "Story of an Hour" and "The Storm" the protagonist take on roles that can possibly be deemed as "mad". • 74. Epic Of Gilgamesh, The Mayan Writing System, And The Indus... Many people are curious about the past and rely on writing in order to discover the truths of the world when it was young, but there are still some limitations. The importance of literature and writing throughout the years becomes noticeable after discussing The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mayan writing system, and the Indus River Valley. The significance of writing is the solid evidence it provides to the major stories and beliefs during history, the history of ancestors and it provides information how inventions have evolved from the past. Before we could decipher the writing used in history, historians could only make theories of what life was like at the beginning of human existence. The discovery of writing provides solid evidence for historians to describe what life was like before our time. The writing discovered by historians show the major stories that occurred and what was important to them. For example, in The Epic of Gilgamesh, the story shows that gods were a huge part of their beliefs. Gilgamesh constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After deciphering the Mayan language, historians could discover that the writing was the mummy's life story. This one example of a life story tells a lot about history and describes what the people centered their lives upon. After cracking the Egyptian hieroglyphic writing, people could understand the meaning of the objects that were lying next to the mummies in their tombs. Most of the writing on the objects would help create a connection to the real meaning of the object's use. Before our understandings of the Egyptian hieroglyphics, historians did not have enough evidence to conclude what the importance of the object was. • 76. My Reading And Writing History My Reading and Writing History pt.1 Just like with many aspects of myself many things helped in the contribution of my reading and writing skills. It was a bit difficult in the beginning learning to read and write in English since I learned to read and write in Spanish first. Both languages being pretty similar kind of screwed me up as a child so it took me longer to learn to read and write in English. Which in turn is why I was put in the ELD for many years. I did eventually test out of it before starting middle school, but that's when my dislike for reading and writing started. Being in those programs they made us read and write even more than the normal students would. I would think now that all that work should have made me better at reading and writing but in turn it made me resent those very things and not any better at them. Another thing that made it worse was my family status, things in my home were complicated to say the least, but the way I was affected academically was because neither of my parents really cared for my education, so I was never made to read or write at home. Those two main things are where my dislike for both things originated. Since I never thought they were important other than to just get a grade in a class. All these things helped contribute to the type of reader and writer that I am today. The main people that have shaped me as a reader and writer today were teachers since I got no help at home. From what I have noticed however from k–12th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
