1. The most talked about band from Manchester on their jump into the fame, the scandals, and
the secrets and there new record and what keeps them grounded and inspired.
‘The Suburbs, the duo form Manchester who stole the number one spot on the charts for a
staggering 12 weeks. We met up with them in Manchester to pick their brains about the ins and outs
of everything you could ever want or need to know about the delightful duo. It was some time in the
spring and there walked in side by side, and took a seat. They looked like two teens meeting up for a
coffee, however they was not, they were about to kick of a worldwide endeavour of jet setting and
island hopping. ’ So guys you first blessed out eyes a year ago on Jools Holland with a cover of
through the grape vine, which was stunning. How did you feel after you performed? ‘. George (Left)
was first to answer. ‘I was a very weird moment, we got of stage and we just sat on the floor in shock
of what we had just done’. Yves added ‘I remember my mum texting me a picture of our
introduction with our names in the corner, i just freaked the fuck out’. They both began to laugh and
reposition themselves on the plush chairs. ‘Do you think that the Jools Holland gig was the big
push you guys needed?’ before I even finished the last word they both sat up nodding and not
hesitating to agree with the question ‘OMG are you joking? Without the amazing people that got us
that gig and Jools himself we wouldn’t be sat on this chair talking to you.’ ‘I was the single most
important factor to our new careers are performer, and I can speak for both of us when we say we
are eternally grateful for it’. These words could have been taken very sarcastically and mush crap
they didn’t really mean, however from the glint in their eyes to the innate reaction I knew they
meant every single one of the words they used to praise and thank the steering moment that that
kicked there career up a notch. ‘After this you were thrown into the deep end. The stories, the
scandals, paparazzi, wild nights and infamous friends; all that good stuff. How did you stay as ground
as the pair of you are?’ They quietly chuckled at the mention of scandals, wild nights and infamous
friends. ‘I mean we quickly learnt that all of those things came with the job you know?, you learn to
ignore the papers avoid the paparazzi and just stay you at all times’ George nodded throughout all of
this and added ‘I just think because you make money and are in the public eye changes you as much
as it has changed some people, where just two people from a town who are lucky enough to have
our dreams come true.’ I’m sure you have been questioned many a time of the story about you
(Yves) and Matt Healey from The 1975, can I just ask how are you and him?’ she softly sighed at the
mention his name and looked slightly annoyed that I would ask such a question. She took a deep
breath in the out and said ‘Look me and him where nothing but mates from the start; he’s like a
brother to me. A lot of people including the media (rolling her eyes) thought just because we went
one night out and played at some of the same gigs that we were the century’s new Romeo and
Juliette. He’s a really nice guy and I’m lucky to have him as a friend, but a friend is all we are and all
we probably will be.’ She digressed and looked ready to move on from the topic in hand. She then
sharply added. ‘Also may I say that we have never done drugs together (she pulled a perplexed face,
throwing her arms out in disbelief of the headline that featured nearly every British newspaper),
kissed or had any type of sexual relation. And he also knows where just mates so just setting the
record straight on that one’. She them smiled looking pleased with herself. We all laughed after she
sighed and said ‘I fucking hate that question.’ George took a bite out of his cookie as we called for a
break. Yves went outside for a cigarette and George played on his phone. When we all
returned we spoke about all things music. ‘So you’ve recently released a new album tell us abet
more about it’. They both answer at once eager to answer. The debated who was going to speak and
it was George who won. ‘Yeah it’s out first full studio album, wave had a few singles and up’s but this
2. out first proper album... There 9 new songs and one already released single (four walls). I We’ve
spent many a night trying to think of a genre or label to categorise it in but its abit of a mix of a few
of different styles and sounds. It’s got some fun songs, some experimental songs and everything in-
between. ‘Have you used any samples, which you’re known for?’ ‘We sure have there some Nina
Simone on there some ray Charles and also some Amy Winehouse, and some other people that are
lesser known but really add to our way of pouting a track to gather’ said Yves proudly. ‘I mean after
the crazy year wave had we got inspirations from a lot of different things and i think that really come
through on the record.’ And that it defiantly does, from the hoped up hooks and basses verse with
slick lyrics, to the commons of piano and drum machines the album for the newbies is nothing but
professional from start to finish. ‘And finally guys i have to ask what’s next for you guys?’ ‘ well wave
got plenty of gigs, shows and apreacens to do, we hope to start writing some new tracks and really
just thrive in this new averment where in.’ ‘yeah defiantly, and i really just want to enjoy myself and
meet the fans and just have fun doing the thing i love with the people i love’ adds Yves. ‘ well i think
you guys and nothing but geniuses and some of the realest nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure
of interviewing and i sure this is the last time where going to cores paths. I wish the album all the
best of luck; although I’m sure it is going to slay the charts no matter, and thanks again for taking
time out of your busy schedule to have a sit down with me!’ ‘ It’s been a pleasure thanks for having
us’. And that was it from what is, I’m my option England’s greatest exports. - Joe Carroll
