1. Evaluation Question Four
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. Tumblr
Tumblr is the focal point of my media coursework. This is the home of my blog on which I have
posted all of my work including my research, planning, production and evaluation. Being a social
media website, Tumblr is a place where people share photography, images, videos, blog posts and
other things to link with people who share the same interests. This meant that I was able to share
work with many people, helping me to get feedback and ideas about work that allowed me to
progress through the course. Tumblr is a very helpful website in its ability to embed links to websites
like YouTube and Prezi, meaning I was able to upload my work easily and in a manner that makes it
all look very professional. By using this for all stages of my work, I was able to easily create and share
my coursework from the research phase right down to the evaluation. Tumblr text section also allows
me to answer questions and explain more about my posts, adding much more depth to my
coursework. Tumblr is very easy to use and doesn’t take very long to get the hang of, meaning I was
able to create good looking coursework that shows my progress throughout the year, and the
website also helped me get the work done in good time.

4. Prezi and SlideShare
Prezzi and Slideshare are the main ways in which I created and shared my coursework. They are
new, online technologies that allow the creation and sharing of presentations, allowing me to create
aesthetic answers to my evaluation questions, as well as show my ideas during planning and the
information I found during research. Prezi is much like PowerPoint, creating presentations that have
great flow to them and this allowed me to create strong, good-looking presentations that carry
across information brilliantly. SlideShare is a website that allows the sharing of all kinds of offline
documents, meaning anything from word documents to PowerPoints are easily accessible to the
public. This also means that it is much easier to share these works and embed them into my blog,
with Tumblr supporting them. During the production stage, these websites were not used much as
they posts did not favour these kind of documents. However, the evaluation, planning and research
phases benefitted massively from these websites as it meant that I was easy able to share my work
and make things easy to see on my blog, also meaning that I was capable of creating my
presentations easily and to a upload them in good time.

6. DSLR 3200
For the filming our of main task, as well as the photos for my digipak, I used a Nikon DSLR 3200,
which was a brilliant camera for capturing high quality video footage and images. The camera had
two lenses, one focused on close-up shots with the other focusing on shots from a distance. The
camera was very handy t use during the production of our task but also helped with our focus
groups used in evaluation and planning. There was a slight issue during filming, with the camera
struggling to focus. However, this was quickly resolved and the filming process was made very easy
by this high quality camera. This camera was much better than the one I used for AS, which didn’t
have as good an image quality, leaving our final task looking less focused as we would have wanted.
The camera was easy to use and I already had good knowledge of how it worked, meaning I was
able to quickly progress with my work and develop the necessary footage quite quickly.

8. Adobe PremierPro
Every piece of video editing was done on Adobe PremierPro. Starting as a complete novice to the
program last year, I quickly picked up the skills in editing and adding in effects and filters. PremierPro
allows footage to be changed in many different ways and is a brilliant piece of software for editing
video. It was obviously used heavily in production, being the way in which our music video was
created. However it was also used in planning and in evaluation, with it being used to create focus
groups and an animatic. PremierPro allowed us to add in features we feel made our music video
unique, like the use of jump cuts throughout. In general, it helped us make a video of high quality
and one that easily tells a story thanks to the editing.

10. Adobe Photoshop
Photoshop was only used during the production phase, being the place where I edited my magazine
advert and digipak. Photoshop is a piece of software that allows photos to be edited, manipulated
and changed to look however the producer would like them to. It allows shaped to be added to
images as well as text, other images and changes to the images like cropping and specific cutting of
them. I used most of these when creating my ancillary texts, seeing this as a good way to show of
the skills I previously had, as well as allowing me to create two texts that are of a high standard,
which show off my artist and advertise my digipak and accompany my music video well.

12. YouTube and Google
Google was a very useful website throughout the whole of my coursework. Being a gateway to
websites like Tumblr and Prezi, Google also helped me gain information for all aspects of the
coursework, from planning right through to evaluation. In research, I got information about music
videos and the history of them. In planning, I had access to SurveyMonkey, allowing me to gain
information about my audience and shape my whole text. In production, I was able to get small
images to help make my digipak and advert look much better. In evaluation, it allowed me access to
Prezi and SlideShare so that I could upload my answers. Overall, Google allowed me to complete my
coursework with ease, keeping everything I needed a click away. YouTube also helped with the
completion of my tasks, allowing each video I created, whether it be for production, planning or
research, to be uploaded to the internet and shared with others, as well as being able to put it into
my blog. Each of these websites is very easy to use and allowed the whole process of my
coursework to be completed easily.

14. Summary
Overall, each piece of hardware and software that I have used have massively helped me to create a
collection of texts, mixed in and developed with coursework that I feel is of a very high standard.
Each item of technology has had its own benefits and it has really helped me to kick on with my
work and make to the best ability I feel I can.
