1. Media evaluation:
Q2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Social groups are groups of peers of a similar nature for example gender, age
and social class. I think groups that are represented by my magazine are age
groups and gender groups. The age groups would be older teens to younger
adults. Not only because of my market research which back up this is also
think that they style and layout of my magazine connotes this specific age
group. For example I have used a combination of cooler colours with
sophisticated fonts, this apeeling to the older side of the age group, where as
the bold colours and catching headlines apple more to the younger side of the
age group. The muted colours with grey and blacks are very good at being an
in-between as they are good for creating a more subtle look that doesn’t look
to ‘pop’ like which would not appeal to the age group. Also the smooth layout
clever lexis is key points in which the age group would be represented. The
gender group is slightly less obvious in terms of my magazines as I didn’t aim
to represent a gender group, mover a genre group and an age group.
However when looking at the gender group you would find that magazines
that had more blue tones with stronger contrasts and darker imagery that it
would appeal to the male group, where as warmer tones of pink red and
orange with a harmonious colour scheme and catching titles and headline
would appeal to the female side of the gender group. Another social group
would be social classes. Social class is a group of individuals who are
categorised as being in the same social class. I think if my magazine was to
represent a class it would be more lenient to middle class, as one could
suggest that this classes would prefer a use of mixed vocabulary with serif
fonts, artistic photography, and sleeker looking layouts.
