HOW DID YOU USE
MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE CONSTRUCTION,
RESEARCH, PLANNING
AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
Adi Mohamed
New Media Technologies
New media technologies is a new medium that
allows for the transfer of information in a digital
format. For instance a medium that connects
people worldwide is the internet; it allows us to
communicate information around the world almost
instantly. Through the development of the internet
and web 2.0 there has been a massive growth in
social networking site such as Facebook, twitter
and Instagram. These programs are used on
things such as mobile phones and USB’s (for
digital information such as images, documents
and videos) in a digital format.
Construction/Digital SLR
Camera
Throughout the process of constructing all my tasks,
we always used the Cannon DSLR camera.
Although this camera is difficult to use, the
outcome is far greater than using a much easier
camera. The camera was very light and easy to
transport, we were able to manually focus our
images as well as have the option to automatically
let it focus. However the manual focus was
difficult to operate, which resulted in out of focus
footage that had to be filmed again. We also used
this camera for the images used in the ancillary
tasks and the filming to achieve the highest quality
possible, which I believe we did.
Final Cut Pro
This is the editing software that I used to construct
the final piece. Considering this was the second
year I used the software, I was fairly comfortable
and confident at the begging of the task. However
I did have to develop my skills further by learning
to create a perfect split screen effect for the first
time. This software enabled me to synchronise
non-diegetic sound effects and make them seem
as if they were coming directly from the world of
the film (diegetic). Lastly, considering that we did
have a lot of footage the software allowed me to
create organised folders of footage from different
scenes, which made the overall process a lot
easier for me.
Photoshop CS6
This is a software that I had previous experience
using a few years ago, however due to the
complexity of the software I did feel as if I had
to learn to do all the basics again as I could
not remember much about the programme.
However once I began to understand the
basics again, I found it easy to create special
titles and effects which overall contributed to
the final product. The software is really good
for the manipulation of images and changing
the colour, which overall had a massive impact
in the overall look of the tasks I used it for.

Blogger
Throughout the process of this assignment, we
had to create a lot of paperwork to back up our
research and planning. As a result we decided
to use the website blogger, which as a group
we were all familiar with using. The website is
extremely simple to upload work on and keep
all documents organised by allowing us to tag
what we did and keep count of how many
tasks we did individually. As a result I also
used the website for my individual blog.
YouTube
YouTube is a very helpful programme, which
helped me in many stages of this task. For
instance I used it for tutorials on how to do
certain things on Photoshop and Final cut. I
also used it to find sound for our 5 minute film.
We also used it to gain tips on better
cinematography and operation of the DSLR.
The website also allowed us to upload our final
short film and share it on other social
networking sites to gain views and responses.
Macbook
I used the macbook for most of the stages of the
planning and research. The Macbook had all
the programmes I needed to use such as
Microsoft word, PowerPoint and Photoshop. It
is a very helpful tool for written work as it is
fast and efficient.
USB
This device was used as a form of backup for all
the work I created. I used it to store images,
written documents and even some of the
footage as backup in case it was lost on the
Mac. This device made it very easy to do work
at school and transfer information and
documents onto my laptop at home. It also
allowed me to directly upload documents
straight onto blogger, as well as share
anything with other members of the group
Websites/Programmes used to
share work.
Throughout the process of this task, as a group we wanted
to show that we were able to use different forms of
media programmes and websites to present our work,
as a result we used different websites which were also
interactive to share our work and to make them more
advanced and less basic. For example we used:
Social networking sites
Social networking sites are a great way to
promote and share things with friends, family
and even random people, who can be targeted
specifically. It was a great way for us to
promote the film and share it to gain maximum
views and awareness. If our target audience
did enjoy the film it can easily spread simply
by word of mouth.
Used programmes:
Conclusion
Overall new media technology is such a vital
part of any form of film making and sharing.
The new media technologies were used in all
aspects of my production and I am very
thankful to be able to use these tools to
improve my skills and confidence within
myself.
