3. The Main strengths of my research would be looking through the audience which I
am trying to aim at which would be 16-24, as well with researching the audience I
found that there where many different things which went into the type of audience
which my short film would be projected towards, the main things which I had to
make sure that everyone was okay with would be not offending any kind of religion
or a certain group of people who have different opinions of certain genres. The
one thing which helped me decide what kind of audience that I aimed at would be
the survey which I had created for my class to do and see their opinions on the
type of short film they would mostly enjoy watching and also the BBFC which
helped looking at things which had to be right with the rules of the film industry
including religions and things to do to try and keep everyone neutral towards the
short film. These things massively helped my project because I have made sure
that there isn’t any thing which Is seen as offensive because it would get some
sort of backlash if the short film had offended people. I think that a weakness in
my research would be through the editing process as I didn’t include as much
information as I should have, and I feel like that in the future I need to make sure
that I complete all the sections of work that I need to because if I don’t I think that
it will effect my work in the future because I may have to go back through my work
and complete it at a later date. At this moment in time I don’t think that I t will
effect my work this time because I don’t need to add much to it.
4. There where many strengths throughout the planning section of this rotation including the
analysis of the mood board because I go into depth on my opinions about the pictures which I
have decided to use as help for my short film project which includes the different kinds of
shots which I may include in my short film being low angle and medium angle being the main
ones which are being used in the short film, also I feel like in the mood board there where not
many images which had any kind of repetition as I don’t think besides the shot types there can
be many things which seem repetitive as with the movies I have also put in the mood board
because some films which I have taken inspiration would be edge of tomorrow because they
show the power of time in the fact that he can rewind time every time he dies which was one
of the major reasons why I had one of my ideas about what kind of short film to create. Also
something else which I thought was a strength in my work would be My potential research
targets as I have gone through different techniques which I have guaranteed to be in my short
which the main technique would be a time-lapse which I will need to take a long period of time
filming it then I will need to edit it and make it fast forwarded to the point where you can
visually see that they are moving without seeing what they are doing. These two things really
helped with my short film product because I got to see what kind of genres do well with the
audience. But there where a few weaknesses which I have had during the planning of my
short film would be the mind map which I have made because although there where many
things in it that where good but I only come up with 2 good ideas which I took into
consideration as the other idea wasn’t very good and also I didn’t really go into very much
description with any of the main idea. In the future I will continue to go in depth with the mood
board and also I will also make sure that I make more ideas for my mind map and also go into
very clear description if I want to say why I came up with the idea and why I think it will be a
good idea.
5. With my time management I some what managed it because some
of the day that I wanted to film some of the shots I couldn't as I had
forgotten to get a watch for the shots which where needed so on
those days which I didn’t have the correct props on hand I had to film
all of the shots which didn’t include any props so that I didn’t have to
rely of the last day to collect all of the shots which where necessary
for my short film and also I managed to also help with other peoples
short films if I was needed for them. I will have completed my project
in the time given because the only work which I left to do will be the
editing process which wont take that much time as I have nearly
finished because all I need to do is add audio and some special
effects that I want to add so that it looks better. Also I where to have
additional time to make my short film it would be better as I would
have more time to make sure that each shot is exactly how I want
them to be because I had to get rid of one of the shots as the
character which I had chosen to be the main person in my short film
had changed the clothes between the different shots.
6. Differences which I can see between the two images would
be that in my time-lapse I didn’t have as much time to record
mine compared to this one as I had 20mins to record it and
the other image I don’t know how long they had but it would
be a lot longer than I had.
The difference which I can visually see would be
the speed in which they are going at as in mine
while editing the short film it had many stutters
through out as I had fast forwarded it to a point
where it only looked good once it had been
exported , and with the image on the right so
can see the blur behind each person which I
couldn’t get in my time lapse.
A similarity which I can see between the
two would be that in mine I planned to
have a character which is moving in
normal which creates a weird effect on
the audience because they would
expect the character to move in the
same speed as the rest of the
background.
The final difference which I can see between the two different
images would be the way in which they have been shot
because you can see in the image on the right hand side it has
been shot using a long shot where as mine will have been shot
using a medium shot because I will be using a green screen to
make my character look like they are moving in normal speed,
and I don’t want to have the characters feet in the shot because
I wont be able to use the green screen at that moment.
7. One thing which I found between the
two with the audio would be that in
the short film called ”Trapped” the
audio is a lot more dramatic
compared to mine as they have made
the audio link with atmosphere
including the tense build ups to the
majority of the different scenes.
Another difference I can see would be the
way in which the audio has been put
together as in my short film I have chosen
to only have one piece audio through out
the short film besides the phrase ”Time is
running out” because I didn’t want to have it
packed full of unnecessary audio. As well
you can see in mine the audio doesn’t
change throughout the short film which Is
different to theirs because they have
different scenes which require the different
sound effects.
Although there are many
differences I can also see a
similarity between the two
which would be that they
both have including audio
which goes with there
surroundings as in mine I
have people talking and the
ambient noise of the college
and in the other short film
the audio is the ambience of
the room which he is
trapped in.
8. A similarity which I can see between the
two short films would be the way in
which they have both been edited as
they cut the individual shots together
which work quite well. As well with the
way that they are both edited I can a
similarity which is the type of shot which
they have used because they use a
variety of shots which include long shot,
close up and medium which are all in
my short film.
A major difference which I can see
between the two different short films
would be the quality of the different
shots as in mine you can see that
through out the short film that it is quite
blurry due to me not having that much
knowledge in the way of cameras.
Which is a vast difference between the
other short film which has been
produced because the quality which is
in there film is outstanding because
they have next to no blurry shots during
the whole short film. I feel like this
separates the two short films greatly as
if you can visually see that It is better
they are more than likely going to watch
that one over something that doesn’t
have the best of quality.
Another difference which I can see between the two different short
films would be the cuts between shots because in this short film
you can see that the scenes connect very well together with each
other where as in mine they don’t look like they should go together
even though it looks some what decent even know they don’t link
very well together.
9. In my personal opinion I think that my
work looks good as you would expect of
your own work , but the main section of
the work which in particular looks quite
good would be the green screen shots
which all though they took quite a bit of
time to get it to work properly it looks
very good to say I had never used a
green screen before. Also the main
reason which I enjoyed the green screen
is because I didn’t have to film it in the
entrance because the character would
have had to go in slow motion to make
the time-lapse look some what good as I
didn’t want to film in the public because
if I where to fast forward it, the character
would jitter between each movement.
But with the green screen If I where to
film it again I would need to make sure
that I have no shadows during the
filming because I had to edit them out
during the editing process.
Something which I don’t think I
which went very well was the
quality of the camera when I
was filming because you can
visually see that the quality is
quite blurry compared to other
shots which I have taken
because I don’t think that for
some of the shots I focused
them especially for the shot
which is in POV because I had
the character hold the camera
while going down to pick up the
watch because it goes in and
out of focus because the
camera is moving with the
character and you cannot keep
it still. In this future If I where to
try and do this kind of shot
again I would need to try and
use something which would
make it so the camera was still
for the whole time so that It
didn’t go out of focus and also I
will need to try and make sure
that each of my shots are in
focus before proceeding to film
the short film.
The main strength of my work would be
the different array of shots which I used
throughout the short film because it
shows the different aspects of the short
film. Because with the different you can
either see dominance or weakness,
another strength which I saw during the
filming of the short film would be the
use of the green screen because I
could use any kind of background
which I wanted but I purposely chose
the college entrance because it is the
main area for my short film. But at the
same time as this being a strength it
was a weakness during the editing
because I had to get rid of the shadow
while editing because the shadow was
effecting the ultra key effect which was
needed to get the character to be on
another background.
10. I think that in my opinion I have appealed to my target audience because I haven’t added
anything which is violent or offends anyone and also I feel like the results which I have gotten
back from the survey are in line with what I have put into my short film. Which would be that
they said they want the short film to be around 1minutes to 1:30minutes which I made sure
that I had to, because the kind of short which everyone had to make had to be from either
60seconds to 90seconds which is the time which I have used to make my short film.
I have some what appealed to some parts of
the audience as there is a 50/50 split
between whether or not they like the fantasy
genre which I have chose because I have
used the effect of time control, but to those
which said that they didn’t like the fantasy
genre I cant please them because it was a
simple yes or no. If I couldn't’appeal to
them for the genre of the short film I may be
able to make them like it due to what it is in
the short film which I have made.
Overall I think that I have a split
between whether or not I have
appealed to my audience because
there are things which appeal to my
audience and then there are people
who I don’t appeal to due to the genre
but something which appeals to the
audience would be the length of the
short film which is between 60-90
seconds.
12. What did you like about the product?
I liked the simplicity of the film because although it is simple it works
really well and implements the idea of the watch perfectly and reforms
around that. The soundtrack which plays over the shots goes well with
them because it is fast paced which relates or backs up to the fact that
the video is moving fast motion. I also like the way the phrase time is
running out has been used, the voice is raised so it adds to that sense
of uncertainty.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
At points in the video the shots can get very blurry and they are not
focused very well, another thing would be the sound towards the end
where it should probably do something like fade or die out.
13. What did you like about the product?
I mostly like the time lapse aspect and the fact you have used the
green screen shows your skills.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
I would preferably want you to improve on the weird disappearing
aspect of the character.
14. What did you like about the product?
I liked the concept of the film, and it was very simple. I also liked the
music because it fit in with the style of the film.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
Many of the shots were out of focus, for example when he picks the
watch up and puts it down. Also, the green screen effect with Alex
looks very fake, however, I do not see any other way of filming it.
15. What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with some of the feedback which I have gotten back from my
peers, the main thing which is persistent through out the feedback
would be that the shots are out of focus which I felt like I could have
shot them better, And also I feel that another thing which I agree with
would be that my short film is very simple.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
Something I would have to disagree with would be that with the green
screen it looks out of place which I had to because otherwise the
character would have had to walk in slow-motion.
16. Based on the feedback which I had been given I would make sure that
I made the short film more complicated, because the main thing which
I had got back was that my short film was very simple which wasn’t
the aim which I was trying to get at, but I don’t think I know what I
would need to include to make the short film more complicated. So I
would need to find something else which I could improve which I think
would have to be the green screen which somewhat looked out of
place at times because when the character walks I should have
change the camera angle because it looks like the character I have
chosen is walking in the same place and when I think about it I could
have changed the area which I filmed in. Also with the green screen I
could have taken more time during editing because I could see the
green outline of the character and on the edge of the screen.
