Life in Colonial America
During colonial times life would not have been anything like it is today. They would not have a cell phone, computer or a global positioning system.
The family would wake up to begin their day with chores depending on their sex, location, age and, the families' social class. Families were large for
various reasons – help on the farm, most children died before the age of five. Childbirth was extremely dangerous for women of the day. Doctors
did not deliver infants. That job belonged to midwives. Today women would have an epidural for pain. Back then woman would bite a stick or
follow the old wives' tales such as placing a knife under the bed to cut the pain. After the birth, depending on the family's wealth, they would feast
to help the mother regain her strength. The mother would rest for three to four weeks before returning to her duties as a wife and mother.
Someone from a lower social standing would only rest two or three days at most before returning to her daily work. The infant would be dressed in
swaddling gowns then later in dresses. Infants and toddlers would wear dresses and long gowns until the age of five regardless of their sex. At the
age of five, girls would begin learning how to cook and sew among other household chores. Boys would also begin chores, following their father and
other men's example around the farm. If they came from a wealthy family, then a tutor would teach the child. Females who were highly educated had a

Gothic Style and Its Influence on Modern Day Concept Arts...
SEMESTER II SESSION 2012/2013
GKA 2043 Research Methodology
Title:
The Study of Gothic Style and Its Influence on Modern Day Concept Arts
Introduction:
Gothic art flourished from the 12th century to the 16th century in Europe in response of the Byzantine and Romanesque tradition. Although Gothic is
associated with arts, its most prominent use is in architecture, mainly for its pointed arch and flying buttress. To this day, the Gothic style is taken as a
'label' for visual arts such as concept art designs, yet the meaning stray from the original context, thus becoming rarely accurate.
In this study, one of the objectives is to discover how a concept artist conveys moods through gothic style and the feels in his or her concept art ... Show

accordingly in creating future artworks
4. To discover whether a concept artist's way and theory of art suited to be made as guidelines for art students in producing artwork
Methodology:
In context of art and style, the suitable research type for this study, "Gothic Style and Its Influence in Modern Day Concept Art", is "Qualitative

hypothesis by using numerical value ("Quantitative Studies"). In simpler words, a qualitative approach will be conducted to study the influence of
Gothic style in modern day concept art.
Definition: Gothic and Concept Art
Gothic Art is concerned with the painting, sculpture, architecture, and music characteristic of the second of two great international eras that flourished
in western and central Europe during the Middle Ages. Gothic Art defines much of the late medieval art that grew out of the Byzantine and
Romanesque traditions. These were very formal artistic traditions with rigorous religious conventions that limited the personal creativity of the

Celtic Irish Music
Name
Institutional Affiliation
Celtic music is a broad group of music genres that have emerged from the native folk music traditions of people of Western Europe, such as the Irish.
Throughout history, Ireland has been associated with music. Irish music history dates back over 2000 years when the Celts arrived in Ireland. Irish
clerics are known for writing some of the earliest folk songs. One of the twelve disciples of Ireland, St Columcille (521–5797 AD), described that the
clerics of Ireland had the ability to "sing like birds". Irish music has remained vibrant in this 21st century having gained global recognition. This is
unlike most European countries that have lost their native folk songs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the 17th century, harpists were professional musicians and the use harps was at its height. At the time, Ireland was ruled by Chieftains, who
also employed the use of harps in Irish songs. Irish tradition was steady and secure. However, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, Ireland was
invaded forced the Chieftains to flee the country. The Irish music tradition suffered a massive blow as harp playing was not considered as a profession
anymore. The professional harpists became known as "travelling" harpists. Decades after the Chieftains fled Ireland after the first invasion, Ireland was
colonized by the British. The British government introduced laws aimed at crushing the Irish culture and introducing the British culture. There was a
penal law that forbade any cultural activities. These laws saw the significant suppression of the growth of Irish culture.
In the 1840's, Ireland suffered a great famine. This led to the death of more than one million people, subsequently, most of the Irish tradition died with
them. The famine also saw a significant migration of people over the world in a desperate measure to stay alive. This led to a devastating factor in the
Irish traditional music. However, a good dead came out of this emigration. When the Irish fled the famine and settled elsewhere, they introduce the Irish
music in that new place. The traditional Irish music network grew especially in places like USA and Australia. The music

The Spiritual Gift Of Apostles And Prophets
Introduction The Word of God instructs Christians that "the body of Christ" is "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus
himself being the cornerstone" (Eph. 2:20). Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during the
"Apostolic Age" or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the
interpretation of modern day apostles and prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern
–day apostles and prophets
will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the conclusion will close out the research paper. How to uncover your
spiritual gift is an important start for every believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God's nature that is within every
believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of apostle and prophet was the first and most important gift given after the
death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal structure of Roman Catholic
Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles and prophets. However, in more recent times apostles and prophets have been
reemerging and taking their place in leadership within the church. This research paper will try to help the reader come to a conclusion on whether

The Era Of The Industrial Revolution
When the Industrial Revolution started, it resulted in the world changing at a high pace. So, the people started to desire a simpler, and a more stable
time. That's when the revival of ancient architecture started to form. Each type of revival style was associated with a specific architect, for instance,
A.W.N. Pugin was England's leading Gothic revivalist. The revivals of the ancient architecture influenced the architectural designs of many architects
of the time. Two of the most noted architects in the nineteenth century who were influenced by the architectural revivals were: Richard Morris Hunt,
the leading architect to the Beaux Art style; and Henry Hobson Richardson, the father of the Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. The ... Show more

Its style combined classical ideas from the ancient Greek, Roman, and Romanesque architecture and deployed their ideas into its architecture (Carven,

depression. Beaux Arts style emphasized the classical forms and features by showing elaborate details while having heavy masonry, and massive plans.
The Beaux Arts displayed elaborate details by integrating sculpture that was influenced by the Baroque and Rococo styles. It also had classical details
such as pilasters, balustrades, and garlands. It was highly ornamented to the point that an elaborately decorated surface with little areas left
unornamented became the hallmark for the Beaux Arts style (Architectural style of America, n.d.). Also, the Beaux Arts style is symmetrical because it
was influenced by the ancient Greek revival. Columns, arches, vaults, and domes were all elements of the Beaux Arts. They used all of these elements
and characteristics to try and imitate the European Aristocracy houses. Beaux Arts main clients were the "would be American aristocrats" who have
accumulated a massive amount of wealth throughout one or two generations. His main clients had to be the super wealthy people of the time because

Apocalypse Now Analysis
In Francis Ford Coppola's critically acclaimed movie " Apocalypse Now" he portrayed a journey of five soldiers into psychological madness down
the harsh Vietnamese jungle river, and through these four specific scenes in cinematic order of the boat's landings, Francis used this screenplay to
boast utter psychological madness of the human mind. The first scene that deconstructs the stages of madness is the beach landing scene where the
crew launches their patrol boat and destroys a village alongside Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore. Throughout this montage of scenes, also the longest
shot segment in the movie, shows the men descending into the first stage of evil, which is the "love of war; dehumanization of the enemy".
Throughout these scenes at " Charlie Beach ", we really see an unfair fight led by Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore. Kilgore has installed a philosophy
upon his men to disregard the military and fight this war as a game. In the first opening shots of the battle scene, Francis uses a beautifully done shot
of the Helicopters descending Into the village in preparation for an assault. From this scene, we see how unfair the fight is. Right before the guns
fire, we get two shots. The first shot is the raging helicopters that look like cowboys on horses or Calvary. The second shot is the peaceful and quiet
Vietnamese villages. With these two shots, it demonstrates how the platoon sees war as playing cowboys and Indians. In many of the background
shots of the village siege, we

Taking a Look at Celtic Music
Celtic Music
When Celtic music comes to mind, nowadays, the first thing people think of is something to do with maybe something to do with the group
Riverdance, a famous Irish step dancing group, the Irish musician, Enya. Celtic music has almost become more of the New Age music, the relaxing
and soothing comfort music that people feel the need to listen to when they relax, or just to escape from reality, but it used to be something else
before it has evolved into 'New Age Music'. It is as almost if people have forgotten what Celtic music really was and changed it from what it originally
was.
Celtic music, to most of the musicians of the past consider Celtic music to be classified as traditional music; the traditional musicians and composers
are actually offended in modern times because now using the word 'Celtic' almost as a marketing technique, if it has a lick of something pertaining to
Ireland, throw it in the Celtic music category at the record store, and the traditionalist feel like that the entertainment industry are basically bastardizing
what they felt was more important than making a quick buck, thus making people really forget where and how Celtic music got started. It can be easy
for people to think that Celtic music is originated in one specific country, but that is not the case. So what exactly IS traditional Celtic music? Not to be
confused with the basketball team, the Boston Celtics, which the pronounced with the soft 'c' pronunciation, so literally

It was the summer of '69, and the air of Bethel, New York, reeked of pot, history making psychedelic guitar riffs, and teenage rebellion. The three day
music festival, Woodstock, was the epitome of the peace movements during the sixties and seventies, encompassing three days of undeniable harmony
in which the youth of 1960 was united, embodying ideals of peace akin, demolishing the foundation of conformity within society. The newly surfacing
culture brought about by the "hippies" and further popularized during the festival countered the commonplace unchallenged mainstream culture that
the majority of U.S. citizens were confined to. Half a million people peaceably gathered from August fifteenth to the eighteenth, demonstrating the

The revolutionary music played during Woodstock reflected values of peace and expressed anti–war sentiment, becoming one of the most influential
kinds of nonviolent Vietnam War protest. The stylings of Jimi Hendrix,Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Country Joe McDonald, Joan Baez,
and a multitude of others, all worked to combat violence through artistic expressions of peace which resulted in enormous followings, displayed
through rock albums that topped music charts in the U.S. Similarly, a transcendentalist from the 1800's by the name of Henry David Thoreau
formulated arguments pertaining to nonviolent defiance against the government by refusing to pay poll taxes. Later he had the antagonizing desire to
put his experience into words, as he intricately composed "Civil Disobedience", a short essay that argued against injustice. His exposition encompassed
the idea that one should challenge the government in an irenic manner if they believe the laws and enforced powers are abusive. The peace
movements of the sixties and seventies practically mirrored the ideas of Thoreau's essay, proving the timelessness of his avant–garde logic.
The Transcendentalist Movement, taking off in the 1800's, generally revolved around the ideas of esteemed philosophers who praised values of

There exists a long held belief that the United States of America was founded on the principles and doctrinal views of Protestantism. Modern age
Christians have scoured historical documents in an effort to provide evidence for a Judeo–Christian foundation in the nation's republican framework.
Likewise, their opponents have written lengthy dissertations and argued over various media outlets that Christian conclusions are unfounded. Yet
despite their endless debate, religion, especially Christianity, has and continues to play a fundamental element of America's cultural, societal, and
political makeup. The Second Great Awakening, the religious revivalist movement of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, ignited not only

The overall objective of the revival movement, which was to win souls for Christ's Kingdom, was very clear to Charles Grandison Finney. Perhaps the
most famous revivalist of the period, Finney struck a chord with the people through his "charismatic personality and intuitive sense of his
audience...always [preaching] extemporaneously, never from a prepared script." More importantly, he deviated from Reformationist thought by
insisting that "'a revival of religion is not a miracle', but a human work, a 'result of the right use of the constituted means.'" What emerged was a
structured system of religion that outlined how to obtain the desired outcome of revivalism through "techniques of persuasion." This included
appealing to the emotions of his audience by asking potential converts to sit on the "anxious bench," a seat at the front of the meeting hall designed to
encourage conversion . Finney formally laid out these measures in his influential work Lectures on Revivals of Religion. His work meticulously details
the methodology of how to conduct a revival, provides the framework for reaching sinners, and suggests rightful steps for spiritual growth. Perhaps the
most important theme found within his lectures was his focus on the individual. To Finney, an individual, not God, was solely responsible for bringing
about salvation; "There are many passages [in Scripture] which represent the conversion of

The Azusa Street Revival was a historical Pentecostal revival meeting that occurred in Los Angeles, California and is the beginning of the Pentecostal
movement. It was run by William J. Seymour, an African American minister. It started with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and proceeded until about
1915. The revival was portrayed by euphoric spiritual encounters joined by miracles, speaking in tongues, inter–racial socialising during worship
services. The members were criticized by media and theologians for their behaviour as it was considered as outrageous and unorthodox, particularly at
the time. Today, the restoration is considered by historians to be the essential push for the spread ofPentecostalism in the 20th century. This paper will

Historical Perspectives On The Colonial Revival In...
Whatever is new, Is bad : Historical Perspectives on the Colonial Revival in Progressive Era America The Colonial Revival is a phenomenon that
materialized as a national expression of American culture from the 1870s to the 1940s. Though founded on ideological traditions, it most often
manifested itself through decorative arts and architecture. Elements of revival furniture, arts and architecture symbolically served as tools to promote
democracy, patriotism most significantly in this context, moral superiority, that reflect republican ideals. In many ways it is a direct response to the
results of Industrialization and progress. Historian Alan Axelrod contends, "Colonialism is not a surface phenomenon, a thin veneer over the real body
of American life, but a network of communications and linkages that reach deep into American experience and behavior." Historians examine the
movement from various perspectives; as a social and cultural movement, its representation in U.S. material culture, and its significance to immigration
and nationalism. Noteworthy scholarship includes everything from Alan Axelrod's The Colonial Revival in America from 1985 to Briann G.
Greenfield's Out of the Attic: Antiques in Twentieth

correlations and points of dissent across the historiography. The Colonial Revival has also been a prevalent area of examination in the museum

The ambiance was very kid friendly. The general surroundings were actually a decently large group of people listening to her sing, as well as
children sitting in front of her as close as they could as if it were storytime. The venue did seem appropriate because it was family friendly and had
no foul language. I believe that having her perform on main Street enhanced the experience because you were really able to see how passionate she

person. It is Finney 's "Reflections" on revival and revival meetings, written in 1845–46, and distributed in the Oberlin Evangelist, the bi–weekly
official publication of Oberlin College, where Rev. Finney was Professor of Theology and in the end, President of the College. Finney's writing reflects
a lot about revival; that it is a method for saving souls as well as changing people and, eventually, the society. Through revivalism, the church would
introduce the millennial kingdom to the world. Finney acknowledges that revival brought good change radically and also that Christians ought to be

Teenage Subcultures
Fashions it a Way of expressing freedom? Or is it an expression of rebellion?
This essay which I would explore is the subculture and expression of teenagers in the late 1950,s known as mods and rockers. The Mods and Rockers
rebelled to get recognised out from the crowd. The problems are being seen around that period, with the subcultures in Britain, as teenagers wanted to
be different from their parent's way of fashion to partying and to get recognised. The conflict included discussion on social norms but also
symbolised fashion freedom. While the approach of the groups may not have been ideal, due to the chaos caused by the two groups, many of them
were jailed. The fashion that distinguished each of the groups consisted of suits and smart dressing by the mods, who were working class. Rockers
style of dressing, jeans, and leather jackets informed as down market conversely, it has also been utilised as a statement of freedom by those oppressed
by government, establishments or regimes. It has also been utilised as a statement of liberty by those oppressed by government, institutions or systems.
Buxbaum discusses the idea of fashion as a "social phenomenon" which links comprehensively to the Mods and Rockers phenomenon. This period
gave way to incredible advancement in fashion identity and the economy of fashion. It provides details of certain motivations held by the youth at the

Early Christian Practical Issues
Introduction
Around 51 AD, Paul was in the city of Corinth. This city was made up of many different people with very different ideas concerningGod, cults, and
moral depravity. While in Corinth, Paul was approached by a woman named Chloe who described to him the misdeeds of dissention, immorality and
wrong doing in the city. Dismayed, Paul immediately addressed the issues in his letters to the Corinthians.

8:1–13) Paul found that some believers felt that by eating meat they had a weak conscience because it had been defiled by the idols (Krell, 1995).
Paul tried to show his followers that it was safe to eat with a clear conscience by eating meat himself. Through this lesson Paul was also trying to teach
that "love was more important than freedom (8:1–6) and that "knowledge can make us arrogant, but love edifies" (Krell, 1995). With these sayings
Paul was giving permission for people to put their pride aside, remember that there is no such thing as idols and that there is only one true and loving
God" (Krell, 1995).
9. The Problem of the Role Men and Women Should Have in Christ 's Church ~ (1 Cor. 11:1

them to imitate him and to "hold firmly to traditions" (v.2). One of the traditions in Corinth was for women to have their head covered. This was a
cultural custom that Paul initially commends as a symbolic gesture (Kinchen, 2012). Paul also teaches that wives should submit to their husbands and
husbands submit to the Lord.
10. The Problem of Abusing the Lord 's Supper ~ (1 Cor. 11:20–34) Around the time of the Lord's Supper, the Church of Corinth was in a problematic

The Azusa Street revival of 1906 to 1909
The Azusa Street revival of 1906 to 1909 was an event that popularised the practice of charismatic worship first in the United States and eventually
throughout the Christian world. However, representations of the revival in the early years of the 20th century were biased, and distorted the events that
occurred. Early believers portrayed the revival as an eschatological narrative in which the power of God came down to earth and revolutionised the
church, especially with the gift of tongues. Pentecostal historians later mythologised Azusa Street representing the revival as the birthplace of
Pentecostalism. On the other hand, conservatives portrayed the events of the revival as unbiblical and sinful, while secular critics depicted the revival ...

Furthermore such powerful claims were backed up with personal testimonies and letters which gave the periodical more credibility on top of
accessibility seeing as it was distributed for free. According to Gaston Espinosa 'The Apostolic Faith paper was chock full of stories', which
described divine healings and spirit possession that became a driving force in attracting people to the mission. Blumhofer adds that this periodical was
also an effective representation as it was able to 'resonate with widely scattered people'. She continues that it also gave independent Charismatic's , a
context in which to relate their beliefs. However the periodical itself later changed its tone in the hands of later writers who represented the movement
in a negative light, especially after Seymour, the founder of the mission, lost control of the paper. In Parham's hands the Apostolic faith journal
ridiculed the leader of Azusa Street, William Seymour, claiming bluntly 'he is not the leader of this movement of Azusa mission'. Parham later used the
paper to condemn the Azusa street revival altogether as a 'darky camp meeting' However, After Parham disassociated himself from the mission; the
paper lost credibility and authority. Thus the early oral traditions and later Pentecostal writers continued to shape the way that Pentecostals perceived
themselves, silencing critics from within.

Personal Responsibility
The Azusa Street Revival is an event that took place in 1906. William J. Seymour, was a man who was led by the Holy Spirit to revive the
industrial streets of Los Angeles, where they used skin color and race to segregate the church. When you think about church do you think
segregation? No, you would think the church would be the last place where there would be segregation. Many were seeking for more from God,
particularly in the holiness groups. Some were offering divine healing prayer with notable results. Others were asking God for a Pentecostal
outpouring of holiness and power. From 1901 reports of the baptism in the Holy Spirit accompanied by speaking with other tongues and other

And when it did they wouldn't be able to control it, when the spirit broke out in those streets nothing could stop it. It was like a fire overcoming
the people and their tongues, and there was no one person there. Black and white people were praising god together and in that moment I'm pretty
sure they couldn't even see color anymore because the power was that strong. Some key points to a genuine out pouring of the holy spirit, is to
repent of your sins truly mean it when you are doing, know why you are doing it, and give yourself completely over to the spirit. I learned that it
doesn't matter where you come from and who you are or what you look like you can receive the Holy spirit, because we are all God's children and
we deserve to have the spirit inside of all of us. I also learned that if Seymour can lead people to the Lord what is stopping me from doing the same,
I'm going to try and work harder because I don't want to see anyone go to hell we should want to save everyone. Winning souls over to the Lord
must be a wonderful experience, and I know that William J. Seymour experienced that a lot throughout those days he increased the time of his
prayer from 2 hours to 5 hours. Though he was blind in one eye it didn't stop him from spreading the love and compassion of the Lord our God who
saved our souls, by sending his only son to die on the cross for our sins, he didn't have to but he

William Seymour and the Pentecostal Movement
William Seymour and the Pentecostal Movement
Pentecostalism is considered one of the greatest universal movement that transformed immensely the history of Christianity. It emphasized a personal
interaction with God facilitated by baptism of the individual by Holy Spirit (Alexander, 43). One of the proponents of Pentecostalism is William
Seymour. He is regarded as the initiator of Pentecostal movement because of his fundamental teachings on the role of Holy Spirit in a Christian's life
(Heaton 35). Therefore, this research paper aims to describe the contributions of William Seymour to evolution of Pentecostalism. The guiding thesis is
that Seymour orchestrated the Pentecostal movement that swept the nation all over the world, which later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His teaching received considerable attention around the world. In 1906, William J. Seymour caused worldwide attention with his Pentecostal teaching,
since he amalgamated the gospel of baptism by fire, and campaign against racial discrimination, and gender inequality (Heaton 50). He organized
historic meetings known as Aziza Street revivals, which had more than 50,000 supporters by 1606 (Alexander 78). Seymour's mission concentrated
preaching about speaking in tongues, baptism by fire, soul winning, and unity in Christ (Espinosa 82). This formed 'Azusa pilgrim' as Christians from
all over the world travel to the revivals, got anointed, and went back to impact their churches.
Today, the Pentecostal faith is one of the largest and most significant movement of the 20th century. Commencing in 1901 with very few students, the
number of followers that have joined the Pentecostal denomination has greatly increased to close to 700 million members.
The Major Pentecostal Beliefs and Teachings
Salvation
According to Pentecostalism, salvation is received through forgiveness of sins and believing in the death of Jesus Christ and his resurrection
(Alexander 59). After doing so, the individual would become acquainted with God. Salvation is considered a new birth (born again) attained only
through the grace of God (Espinosa 82). This happens when the individual develops faith in Christ as their Lord and Savior

Architecture Style And Architecture Of The Taj Mahal
CHAPTER 1
1.0 INTRODUCTION A story makes an old building charming. In reality, a pleasing exterior view does not ensure people will be attracted to the
particular heritage building. It is the story behind the heritage building that gives meaning to both building and people. As a heritage building, the
building itself has been passed the test of time and becomes a typical landmark for a city. Hence, the story of the building explained its architecture
style and structure which makes it be a remarkable building. For instance, Sultan Abdul Samad Building (SASB) has a unique architectural design
which is the mixture of several architectural styles. This result is caused by the Charles Edwin Spooner, the state engineer of Public Work Department,
Selangor, who worked in Ceylon before transferred to Selangor. He preferred to design a Mughal–style building on a Classic Renaissance style ground
plan which suggested by A.C. Norman. Moreover, British Victorian style is incorporated into this building's design as the British colonized Malaya.

Historical Perspectives On The Colonial Revival In...
"Whatever is new, Is bad": Historical Perspectives on the Colonial Revival in Progressive Era America
The Colonial Revival is a phenomenon that materialized as a national expression of
American culture from the 1870s to its peak between 1880 and 1940. The Colonial Revival was
more about ideology, but most often manifested itself through decorative arts and architecture.
Elements of pseudo colonial furniture, arts and architecture symbolically served as tools to
promote the republican ideas of democracy, patriotism and moral superiority.
In many ways the Colonial Revival was a direct reaction to the side effects of
Industrialization and progress. Ironically, frequently participants of the revival used modern
techniques as a means to accomplish their singular goal. Historian Alan Axelrod argues,
"Colonialism is not a surface phenomenon, a thin veneer over the real body of American life,
but a network of communications and linkages that reach deep into American experience and
behavior."
Historians examine the movement from various perspectives; the Colonial Revival as a
social and cultural movement, its representation in U.S. material culture, and its significance to
immigration and nationalism. Scholarship includes everything from Alan Axelrod's The
Colonial Revival in America from 1985 to Briann G. Greenfield's Out of the Attic: Antiques in
Twentieth–Century New England from 2009. A variety of monographs and collections of essays
will be analyzed to determine correlations and points of dissent within the historiography of the
Colonial Revival in the United States.
The Colonial Revival has also been a popular area of examination in the museum
community as evidenced by Geoffrey Rossano's Creating a Dignified Past: Museums and the
Colonial Revival and Thomas Denenberg's Wallace Nutting and the Invention of Old America in
particular, with sections devoted to museums treatment of the phenomenon in other readings.
Rossano's collection of essays examines the impact of the Colonial Revival on the museum
profession. Thomas Denenberg himself is a curator of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art

Stereotypes In The Film 'Fortunate Son'
Paramount Pictures released the fictional movie Forrest Gump on July 6, 1984 to major success. Robert Zemeckis directs the film, which stars Tom
Hanks as Forrest Gump. Raised by his single mother, Forrest grows up in Greenbow, Alabama. Throughout the movie, Forrest becomes involved in
many of the major events that occur in the United States between the 1950's and 1980's. Some of these events include becoming a college football star
at the University of Alabama, serving in the Vietnam War, reporting the Watergate Scandal, becoming a shrimp boat captain, founding Bubba Gump's
Shrimp Co., and running across the country. During Forrest's helicopter ride into Vietnam, the song, "Fortunate Son" byCreedence Clearwater Revival
plays. This song not only sets the scene as the song commonly known, but also balances the political spectrum between liberals and conservatives. One
of the effects of Robert Zemeckis choosing the song "Fortunate Son" is the balancing of political beliefs in the movie. Jeff Saporito interviews Tom
Hanks regarding the films political agenda. Hanks says that, "The film is nonpolitical and thus nonjudgmental"(Saporito). Jeff Saporito ... Show more

Furthermore, Luther's Theology of the cross helps us to see God incarnate, with us, Emmanuel, even in the suffering and death of the crucified one,
God's only son, Jesus. It is in this suffering that we know that God is with us. In a very human way, God takes on the fate of the world, to destroy
human flesh through Jesus, the incarnation. God does change, suffer and die. It is God alone, and nothing we do. God does all the heavy lifting for
our sake, and it is a gift. Jesus gives us an example of someone who loves us so deeply, that he is willing to lay down his life.

Charismatic Theology
The charismatic movement1 began within the historic churches in the 1950s. On the American scene it started to attract broad attention in 1960, with
the national publicity given to the ministry of the Reverend Dennis Bennett, an Episcopalian in Van Nuys, California. Since then there has been a
continuing growth of the movement within many of the mainline churches: first, such Protestant churches as Episcopal, Lutheran, and Presbyterian;
second, the Roman Catholic (beginning in 1967); and third, the Greek Orthodox (beginning about 1971).2 by now the charismatic movement has

The Pentecostal/Charismatic movement is heavily splintered; the number of groups within this movement number in the tens of thousands. We can,
however, examine the major groups of the movement. Pentecostalism and its offshoots can be divided into three groups: "Classical" Pentecostals, those
who are members of the standard Pentecostal groups, most of which originated in the first quarter of the twentieth century; the Charismatics, or those in
other denominations who received the "baptism of the Holy Spirit;" and the so–called "Neo–Charismatics," the groups formed in the last half of the
century, most of which are not affiliated with the Pentecostal denominations. We will examine the "classical" Pentecostal groups in more detail; it will
suffice to say for the Charismatics that they are present in the majority of the denominations of Christendom, normally having their own associations as
part of their denominations "
We must first examine the "pre–Pentecostal" era, the time before 1901. Many churches received the message of the Holiness movement, which
stemmed from Wesleyan theology. Many of these groups were looking forward to a "renewal of the Holy Spirit," when the gifts present on the day of
Pentecost would return to the churches. Many of these Holiness groups became Pentecostal after the turn of the

Development Of Hybrid Colonial Architecture
Colonial architecture is a combination architectural style of a country that has been adapted from the other countries characteristics, methods and
influences. The colonists built settlements and create hybrid designs that include their countries of origin with the design styles. Europeans came to
Southeast Asia during 16th century. The colonial vision was effectively imposed on Southeast Asia. At the beginning of the20th century, most of the
Southeast Asia countries were controlled by the British, Dutch, French and the Americans. Under this colonial rule, the late 19th and early 20th
centuries was a period of fast development of such as new architectural styles, modern construction methods and techniques, railways, roads, etc. They
changed the configurations, construction and methods to make the buildings more sustainable and maintained.
This essay focuses on the development of hybrid colonial architecture in early 20th century in Southeast Asia. The essay investigates the different styles
of buildings in different locations and explains how these types of architecture combined both European and local origins. It explains the Dutch style in

Descriptive Essay On My House
When you step into my room, the first thing you will notice is the golden afternoon sunlight fluttering in and dancing around because of the large
sycamore trees outside my window. The window is fairly large, as my house is a Cape Cod style home. The reason for the window being so large is
that it is one of the primary dormer windows on the second floor that front the street. The window is also set in alcove that is approximately two feet
deep, and is framed with white wooden shutters on both sides. I have always been a very optimistic and happy person, and this large window letting in
the golden light of nature is a fantastic representation of my personality.
After taking notice of the soft afternoon light in my room, you will notice two shelves on either side of the alcove They are painted a crisp white color
and contain a slightly wavy pattern of carved wood around the border. You can feel the smooth undulations along the border by slowly moving
your hand along the wood. Perched upon these two sets of shelves are various items from my childhood, old books, books that I am reading, and
photos that I have taken to showcase my photography work. I am an amateur coastal photographer and take pride in displaying my work on my
shelves. It has always been important to me to take pride in my best work. The house I am living in now is not my family's original home, so on these
shelves I also have pictures of my old house and surrounding property. Another important item on my

Pre Colonial America Summary
Pre–Modern Colonial America In The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Gordan S. Wood creates an in

could be classified as a pre–modern society. He presents a thorough argument for how hierarchal trends and patriarchal dependency of the colonists
emphasized the more traditional culture of the early Americans. The colonists had created a society in which there was a deep prevalence for British
customs, such as, reverence for the king, the inheritance of land and status, the strength of a household, and the importance of rank (Wood 12, 16, 46,

By building up their family trees, colonial Americans were able to use their kinship as an advantage in a variety of ways including, but not limited to,
the manipulation of politics (Wood 48). This was due to the patriarchal dependency of most of the citizens; in colonial America the familial household
was the center of society and the strength of it. The patriarchal tradition of the society creates a system in which the institutions mimic households; that
created a society that was dependent on a head because no man was independent in and of himself

slaves. English colonies had the biggest influx of Africans. Not only were Africans effected by slavery, but so were many of the English settlers
themselves. Religion conflicted with the practice of slavery, which caused the colonists to in a sense awaken and form new explicit opinions about
religion. This caused previous conveyers of religion to judge the new ways colonists were thinking about and acting out religion. This awakening in
religion was preached by many preachers. At the forefront of the movement was one such preacher known as George Whitfield. Many other people

white men are: both, if born and bred up here, I am persuaded are naturally capable of the same improvement." (Whitefield, 4) In this quote Whitefield

America was "traditional in its basic social relationships and in its cultural society." (Wood 11). Wood even suggests that, "in some respects colonial
society was more traditional than that of the mother country" (12). With the concept of the traditionalism of the colonial world, Wood declares the era

How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination Of...
utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016 Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of
Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at
Bethel Bible College, established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that demonstrated as evidence of
baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of
1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This
marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school.
According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham 's
services though he was made to sit outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham 's teachings of baptism with the Holy Spirit enveloped
Seymour, who took this new theology to Los Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness Church. The church
rejected Seymour 's claims on tongues as proof of baptism with The Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour 's
sermon and kicked him out of the church. Seymour moved in with a friend of his,

War Dogs Movie Analysis
Bottom Feeders The film War Dogs (2016) tracks the rise and fall of two international arms dealers. The movie starts with David, portrayed by
Miles Teller, who is stuck as a masseuse with no real opportunities in his life. His best friend from middle school, Efraim, portrayed by Jonah Hill,
returns to his life and gives him an offer he cannot refuse. Together they create a small empire but end up getting in over their heads. This film
shows the side of war that we rarely see. It shows how much war is truly influenced by money, as well as showing who benefits off the profits.
Hint, it is not the soldiers. This directly ties into the American Dream. Additionally, many aspects of the film help drive home this aspect of the
American Dream. Things like setting and music are huge in this. These aspects exaggerate points made in the movie and add extra layers. The film
addresses the American Dream by stating the reality that the American Dream centers around money and power; the film does this by addressing the
financial side of war via music, setting, and characters. The music in this film included a lot of American classics and was a key element. Songs like
"Fortunate Son" by Creedance Clearwater Revival and "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith are classic songs that every American knows and they were
used strategically throughout the film. For example, "Fortunate Son" was used as Efraim and David were fleeing enemy fire in Fallujah. They brought
the term "gun runners" new life when

Life in Colonial America and Subcultures

  • 1. Life in Colonial America During colonial times life would not have been anything like it is today. They would not have a cell phone, computer or a global positioning system. The family would wake up to begin their day with chores depending on their sex, location, age and, the families' social class. Families were large for various reasons – help on the farm, most children died before the age of five. Childbirth was extremely dangerous for women of the day. Doctors did not deliver infants. That job belonged to midwives. Today women would have an epidural for pain. Back then woman would bite a stick or follow the old wives' tales such as placing a knife under the bed to cut the pain. After the birth, depending on the family's wealth, they would feast to help the mother regain her strength. The mother would rest for three to four weeks before returning to her duties as a wife and mother. Someone from a lower social standing would only rest two or three days at most before returning to her daily work. The infant would be dressed in swaddling gowns then later in dresses. Infants and toddlers would wear dresses and long gowns until the age of five regardless of their sex. At the age of five, girls would begin learning how to cook and sew among other household chores. Boys would also begin chores, following their father and other men's example around the farm. If they came from a wealthy family, then a tutor would teach the child. Females who were highly educated had a difficult time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during the "Apostolic Age" or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the interpretation of modern day apostles and prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern –day apostles and prophets will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the conclusion will close out the research paper. How to uncover your spiritual gift is an important start for every believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God's nature that is within every believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of apostle and prophet was the first and most important gift given after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal structure of Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles and prophets. However, in more recent times apostles and prophets have been reemerging and taking their place in leadership within the church. The revivals of the ancient architecture influenced the architectural designs of many architects of the time. Its style combined classical ideas from the ancient Greek, Roman, and Romanesque architecture and deployed their ideas into its architecture (Carven, 7/27/2016). The Beaux's Art style influenced architecture between 1880 and 1920, but its popularity ended with economic hardships from the great depression. Beaux Arts style emphasized the classical forms and features by showing elaborate details while having heavy masonry, and massive plans. The Beaux Arts displayed elaborate details by integrating sculpture that was influenced by the Baroque and Rococo styles. It also had classical details such as pilasters, balustrades, and garlands. It was highly ornamented to the point that an elaborately decorated surface with little areas left unornamented became the hallmark for the Beaux Arts style (Architectural style of America, n.d.). Also, the Beaux Arts style is symmetrical because it was influenced by the ancient Greek revival. Columns, arches, vaults, and domes were all elements of the Beaux Arts. They used all of these elements and characteristics to try and imitate the European Aristocracy houses. • 8. Apocalypse Now Analysis In Francis Ford Coppola's critically acclaimed movie " Apocalypse Now" he portrayed a journey of five soldiers into psychological madness down the harsh Vietnamese jungle river, and through these four specific scenes in cinematic order of the boat's landings, Francis used this screenplay to boast utter psychological madness of the human mind. The first scene that deconstructs the stages of madness is the beach landing scene where the crew launches their patrol boat and destroys a village alongside Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore. Throughout this montage of scenes, also the longest shot segment in the movie, shows the men descending into the first stage of evil, which is the "love of war; dehumanization of the enemy". Throughout these scenes at " Charlie Beach ", we really see an unfair fight led by Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore. Kilgore has installed a philosophy upon his men to disregard the military and fight this war as a game. In the first opening shots of the battle scene, Francis uses a beautifully done shot of the Helicopters descending Into the village in preparation for an assault. From this scene, we see how unfair the fight is. Right before the guns fire, we get two shots. The first shot is the raging helicopters that look like cowboys on horses or Calvary. The second shot is the peaceful and quiet Vietnamese villages. With these two shots, it demonstrates how the platoon sees war as playing cowboys and Indians. • 9. Taking a Look at Celtic Music Celtic Music When Celtic music comes to mind, nowadays, the first thing people think of is something to do with maybe something to do with the group Riverdance, a famous Irish step dancing group, the Irish musician, Enya. Celtic music has almost become more of the New Age music, the relaxing and soothing comfort music that people feel the need to listen to when they relax, or just to escape from reality, but it used to be something else before it has evolved into 'New Age Music'. It is as almost if people have forgotten what Celtic music really was and changed it from what it originally was. Celtic music, to most of the musicians of the past consider Celtic music to be classified as traditional music; the traditional musicians and composers are actually offended in modern times because now using the word 'Celtic' almost as a marketing technique, if it has a lick of something pertaining to Ireland, throw it in the Celtic music category at the record store, and the traditionalist feel like that the entertainment industry are basically bastardizing what they felt was more important than making a quick buck, thus making people really forget where and how Celtic music got started. It can be easy for people to think that Celtic music is originated in one specific country, but that is not the case. So what exactly IS traditional Celtic music? Not to be confused with the basketball team, the Boston Celtics, which the pronounced with the soft 'c' pronunciation, so literally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was the summer of '69, and the air of Bethel, New York, reeked of pot, history making psychedelic guitar riffs, and teenage rebellion. The three day music festival, Woodstock, was the epitome of the peace movements during the sixties and seventies, encompassing three days of undeniable harmony in which the youth of 1960 was united, embodying ideals of peace akin, demolishing the foundation of conformity within society. The revolutionary music played during Woodstock reflected values of peace and expressed anti–war sentiment, becoming one of the most influential kinds of nonviolent Vietnam War protest. The stylings of Jimi Hendrix,Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Country Joe McDonald, Joan Baez, and a multitude of others, all worked to combat violence through artistic expressions of peace which resulted in enormous followings, displayed through rock albums that topped music charts in the U.S. Similarly, a transcendentalist from the 1800's by the name of Henry David Thoreau formulated arguments pertaining to nonviolent defiance against the government by refusing to pay poll taxes. Later he had the antagonizing desire to put his experience into words, as he intricately composed "Civil Disobedience", a short essay that argued against injustice. His exposition encompassed the idea that one should challenge the government in an irenic manner if they believe the laws and enforced powers are abusive. The peace movements of the sixties and seventies practically mirrored the ideas of Thoreau's essay, proving the timelessness of his avant–garde logic. There exists a long held belief that the United States of America was founded on the principles and doctrinal views of Protestantism. Modern age Christians have scoured historical documents in an effort to provide evidence for a Judeo–Christian foundation in the nation's republican framework. Likewise, their opponents have written lengthy dissertations and argued over various media outlets that Christian conclusions are unfounded. Yet despite their endless debate, religion, especially Christianity, has and continues to play a fundamental element of America's cultural, societal, and political makeup. The overall objective of the revival movement, which was to win souls for Christ's Kingdom, was very clear to Charles Grandison Finney. Perhaps the most famous revivalist of the period, Finney struck a chord with the people through his "charismatic personality and intuitive sense of his audience...always [preaching] extemporaneously, never from a prepared script." More importantly, he deviated from Reformationist thought by insisting that "'a revival of religion is not a miracle', but a human work, a 'result of the right use of the constituted means.'" What emerged was a structured system of religion that outlined how to obtain the desired outcome of revivalism through "techniques of persuasion." This included appealing to the emotions of his audience by asking potential converts to sit on the "anxious bench," a seat at the front of the meeting hall designed to encourage conversion . Finney formally laid out these measures in his influential work Lectures on Revivals of Religion. His work meticulously details the methodology of how to conduct a revival, provides the framework for reaching sinners, and suggests rightful steps for spiritual growth. Perhaps the most important theme found within his lectures was his focus on the individual. To Finney, an individual, not God, was solely responsible for bringing about salvation; "There are many passages [in Scripture] which represent the conversion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay which I would explore is the subculture and expression of teenagers in the late 1950,s known as mods and rockers. The Mods and Rockers rebelled to get recognised out from the crowd. The problems are being seen around that period, with the subcultures in Britain, as teenagers wanted to be different from their parent's way of fashion to partying and to get recognised. The conflict included discussion on social norms but also symbolised fashion freedom. While the approach of the groups may not have been ideal, due to the chaos caused by the two groups, many of them were jailed. This city was made up of many different people with very different ideas concerningGod, cults, and moral depravity. While in Corinth, Paul was approached by a woman named Chloe who described to him the misdeeds of dissention, immorality and wrong doing in the city. Through this lesson Paul was also trying to teach that "love was more important than freedom (8:1–6) and that "knowledge can make us arrogant, but love edifies" (Krell, 1995). With these sayings Paul was giving permission for people to put their pride aside, remember that there is no such thing as idols and that there is only one true and loving God" (Krell, 1995). 9. The Problem of the Role Men and Women Should Have in Christ 's Church ~ (1 Cor. 11:1 –17) When Paul first addressed the Corinthians he told them to imitate him and to "hold firmly to traditions" (v.2). One of the traditions in Corinth was for women to have their head covered. This was a cultural custom that Paul initially commends as a symbolic gesture (Kinchen, 2012). Paul also teaches that wives should submit to their husbands and husbands submit to the Lord. 10. Early believers portrayed the revival as an eschatological narrative in which the power of God came down to earth and revolutionised the church, especially with the gift of tongues. It was like a fire overcoming the people and their tongues, and there was no one person there. Some key points to a genuine out pouring of the holy spirit, is to repent of your sins truly mean it when you are doing, know why you are doing it, and give yourself completely over to the spirit. I learned that it doesn't matter where you come from and who you are or what you look like you can receive the Holy spirit, because we are all God's children and we deserve to have the spirit inside of all of us. • 34. Descriptive Essay On My House When you step into my room, the first thing you will notice is the golden afternoon sunlight fluttering in and dancing around because of the large sycamore trees outside my window. The window is fairly large, as my house is a Cape Cod style home. The reason for the window being so large is that it is one of the primary dormer windows on the second floor that front the street. The window is also set in alcove that is approximately two feet deep, and is framed with white wooden shutters on both sides. I have always been a very optimistic and happy person, and this large window letting in the golden light of nature is a fantastic representation of my personality. After taking notice of the soft afternoon light in my room, you will notice two shelves on either side of the alcove They are painted a crisp white color and contain a slightly wavy pattern of carved wood around the border. You can feel the smooth undulations along the border by slowly moving your hand along the wood. Perched upon these two sets of shelves are various items from my childhood, old books, books that I am reading, and photos that I have taken to showcase my photography work. I am an amateur coastal photographer and take pride in displaying my work on my shelves. It has always been important to me to take pride in my best work. The house I am living in now is not my family's original home, so on these shelves I also have pictures of my old house and surrounding property. Another important item on my ... • 35. Pre Colonial America Summary Pre–Modern Colonial America In The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Gordan S. Wood creates an in –depth analysis of why colonial America could be classified as a pre–modern society. He presents a thorough argument for how hierarchal trends and patriarchal dependency of the colonists emphasized the more traditional culture of the early Americans. The colonists had created a society in which there was a deep prevalence for British customs, such as, reverence for the king, the inheritance of land and status, the strength of a household, and the importance of rank (Wood 12, 16, 46, 18). Before the revolution, America resembled its native England; once they had severed ties and moved forward with their own form of government with confidence, pre–modern America initiated the first steps to become a truly independent and modern nation. ... By building up their family trees, colonial Americans were able to use their kinship as an advantage in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the manipulation of politics (Wood 48). This was due to the patriarchal dependency of most of the citizens; in colonial America the familial household was the center of society and the strength of it. The patriarchal tradition of the society creates a system in which the institutions mimic households; that created a society that was dependent on a head because no man was independent in and of himself ... Religion conflicted with the practice of slavery, which caused the colonists to in a sense awaken and form new explicit opinions about religion. Think you, they are any way better by nature than the poor negroes? No, in no ways. Blacks are just as much, and no more, conceived and born in sin, as white men are: both, if born and bred up here, I am persuaded are naturally capable of the same improvement." (Whitefield, 4) In this quote Whitefield questions that if Christianity has such a bad influence on the slaves, then why are colonists so eager to teach it to their offspring. George Whitefield states that blacks are no more born into sin then white men. He believes that both races sin equally. George Whitefield played a massive role in the Great Awakening. He was an English minister that used the local revivals of Edwards and the Tennants to create a Great Awakening within himself. Whitefield then traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to spread his message to the English colonists. When the colonists saw George Whitefield preach they would gather in large crowds. Philadelphia Centennial Of 1876 Research Paper The Philadelphia Centennial of 1876 is the origin starting point for a rebirth of the colonial architectural heritage of America and the early English and Dutch houses of the Atlantic seaboard. The increasing popularity of colonial influences on contemporary architecture motivated a highly publicized tour of a group of architects in 1877 who observed and recorded Georgian and Federal houses of New England. The simplicity of colonial designs and honest use of materials with more economical plans than the recently popular picturesque homes also contributed to the growing popularity of the style. • 39. Gordon S. Wood's The Radicalism Of The American Revolution Gordon S. Wood, in The Radicalism of the American Revolution, explicitly details the societal, economic, and governmental institutions of Colonial American society, and considers the era to be pre–modern because of its strong focus on monarchy, hierarchy, and patriarchy. The colonial world in America was "traditional in its basic social relationships and in its cultural society." (Wood 11). Wood even suggests that, "in some respects colonial society was more traditional than that of the mother country" (12). With the concept of the traditionalism of the colonial world, Wood declares the era to be "pre–modern." Children depended on their father well into adulthood. For example, fathers would determine the suitors fit to marry their daughters and would decide how inheritance would be distributed to their descendants. English laws of inheritance called for primogeniture, meaning the transfer of all land to the eldest son. How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination Of... utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016 Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College, established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham 's services though he was made to sit outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham 's teachings of baptism with the Holy Spirit enveloped Seymour, who took this new theology to Los Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness Church. The church rejected Seymour 's claims on tongues as proof of baptism with The Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour 's sermon and kicked him out of the church. Seymour moved in with a friend of his, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. War Dogs Movie Analysis Bottom Feeders The film War Dogs (2016) tracks the rise and fall of two international arms dealers. The movie starts with David, portrayed by Miles Teller, who is stuck as a masseuse with no real opportunities in his life. His best friend from middle school, Efraim, portrayed by Jonah Hill, returns to his life and gives him an offer he cannot refuse. Together they create a small empire but end up getting in over their heads. This film shows the side of war that we rarely see. It shows how much war is truly influenced by money, as well as showing who benefits off the profits. Hint, it is not the soldiers. This directly ties into the American Dream. Additionally, many aspects of the film help drive home this aspect of the American Dream. Things like setting and music are huge in this. These aspects exaggerate points made in the movie and add extra layers. The film addresses the American Dream by stating the reality that the American Dream centers around money and power; the film does this by addressing the financial side of war via music, setting, and characters. The music in this film included a lot of American classics and was a key element. Songs like "Fortunate Son" by Creedance Clearwater Revival and "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith are classic songs that every American knows and they were used strategically throughout the film. For example, "Fortunate Son" was used as Efraim and David were fleeing enemy fire in Fallujah. They brought the term "gun runners" new life when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
