Essay Intro Paragraph
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Essay Intro Paragraph" may seem deceptively simple at first
glance, yet the task carries its own set of challenges. The irony lies in the fact that while you are
expected to introduce the subject matter, creating a captivating and effective introduction
paragraph demands a delicate balance between conciseness and informativeness. Striking the
right chord with readers, hooking their attention, and setting the tone for the entire essay can be
an intricate dance of words. One must navigate the fine line between being too vague or overly
detailed, ensuring that the introduction entices curiosity without revealing too much. Moreover,
the challenge intensifies when considering the need to seamlessly transition from the
introduction to the body of the essay. Crafting a compelling introduction involves a keen
understanding of the topic, a mastery of language, and the ability to captivate the audience right
from the opening sentences.
In the realm of academic or professional writing, the challenge of writing an engaging essay
introduction is not to be underestimated. It requires a blend of creativity, analytical thinking, and
a deep understanding of the subject matter. Writers must carefully choose their words to convey
the essence of the essay while leaving room for exploration in subsequent paragraphs. The
struggle to strike this balance can be both mentally taxing and time-consuming. Moreover, the
pressure to make a lasting impression in the initial paragraph adds an extra layer of difficulty to
the process.
For those grappling with the intricacies of crafting a compelling essay introduction, seeking
assistance can be a viable option. Fortunately, resources such as HelpWriting.net offer a

Prolife Action and Operation Rescue: 1989 1994
In the eighties, New Zealand pro lifers frequently followed the lead of their United
States counterparts. For example, Chicago based conservative pro life activist
Joseph Scheidler visited New Zealand in the mid eighties, prompting the formation
of namesake Pro Life Action Groups in Christchurch and Wellington. In the late
eighties, conservative pro life activist Mary O Neill was largely responsible for
importing Randall Terry s direct action Operation Rescue pro life tactic to New
Zealand, but it faced resistance. In Christchurch and Wellington, pro choice activists
mobilised against Operation Rescue New Zealand, and ultimately, family stresses,
heavy fines and lack of more conservative pro life support ended the existence of
Operation Rescue (its parent organisation is now known as Operation Save America).
Contemporary status of abortion debate
Thereafter, Parliament served as an occasional venue for debates about the
composition of the Abortion Supervisory Committee, when appointments and expiry
dates for its membership have come and gone. Unlike the United
Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay
A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico
Scarlatti The purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni
Antonio Monteverdi (1567 1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and
compare and contrast the two pieces to find out how music changed throughout the
Baroque period.
While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain
characteristics, the music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would
not for any other musical time period. Composers from different points in the
Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two composers had in common were
the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was taken to chose

There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was
considered to be perfect or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from
Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the only psalm that exhibits an organized
concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It
begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the
setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation,
consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original
manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while
others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all
been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the
music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking
away from the sacred message it was supposed to send.
While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in
some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the
obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin.
That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary
language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began
using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Aside from that,
Monteverdi, being more
Comparing King John And The Magna Carta
: English rulers that clashed with nobles and the Church tried to raise taxes or impose
royal authority. With these struggles, the evolved traditions of government formed
that would have great influence on the modern world. A clever, cruel, and
untrustworthy ruler, King John, had three powerful enemies: King Philip II of
France, PopeInnocent III, and his own English nobles. When John suffered a setback
by losing a war with Philip II, he had to give up lands in Anjou and Normandy. Then
he fought with Innocent III over selecting a new archbishop of Canterbury. The pope
excommunicated him when John rejected the pope s nominee as well as placing
Englandunder the interdict the papal order that forbade Church services in an
entire kingdom. To save himself as well as his crown, John had to accept England as
a fief of the papacy and pay a yearly fee to Rome.... Show more content on

In 1215, a group of barons concerned John and forced him to sign the Magna Carta
which was a great charter. The two very important ideas that would shape English
government in the future comprised this document. First, it asserted that the nobles
had certain rights. With time, the rights were extended to all English citizens.
Second, the Magna Carta made it clear that the monarch must obey the law. The
barons included provisions that recognized the legal rights of townspeople and the
Church as well as protecting their own
Social Class And Social Work Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to Examine the extent to which social class
determines life chances in contemporary Britain, and explore the relevance of the
issue for students on a social work degree. Within this document I will identify and
explore key concepts and approaches in the sociological analysis of social
differentiation in modern society. I will then use these concepts and apply them to
contemporary britain in order to explain how social classinfluences an individual s
life chances. I will also discuss and examine the value of these theories to students on
a social work course.
Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological
thinking as time progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very
prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s where social class divisions were seen as
central to understanding differences in opportunity and life chances. Social class
has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status. (1)
These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx,
Weber and Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however
since it fails to explain other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality.
Although there have been many attempts to link these inequalities to social class, no
such connection has been found and other theoretical approaches have been needed
from the likes of Andrew Pilkington, Kathwood Woodward and
The Differences Of Athena And Athena
Athena is the mythological goddess of wisdom, her being has been an endless
inspiration for many artists throughout the centuries. Athena was such an influence
that there s been numerous paintings and statues under her name. She holds the title
of being the most intelligent and powerful of the 12 Olympian gods and is ranked
Zeuss favorite child. The Athenians loved her so much they considered her to be their
special protector and named their city after her. Are they any similarities or
differences between the original Athenain Greek mythologyvs Athena in the
Goddess girl s series? One thing we can say that hasn t change in both stories is
Athena intelligence and courage, as well as the relationship between Athena and
Medusa, they are sworn enemies in both stories. Thirdly, one of the biggest
differences from the original myth and the goddess girl s series is the surrounding of
Athena early life. Athena is a child throughout the entire Goddess series, however in
the myth she was never a child and was grown at birth with a full armour.
Athena in the original myth is the mythical goddess of wisdom and war. Athena was
an important member of the Olympic pantheon because of her strategy, warfare and
skill. Athena was also skilled In various crafts such as weaving and metalwork of
weapons. Zeus admired Athena for that matter and was the only one of his child he
entrusted her with his breastplate, Aegis and his thunderbolt. Athena s intelligence

Literary Devices In The Swimmer

Literary Analysis of The Swimmer
In the short story, The Swimmer, John Cheever uses precise literary devices to
emphasize the true meaning behind what the average reader might first gather.
Throughout this short story, Neddy s journey is recorded through what he does and
how the time changes. His actions of jumping from pool to pool show Neddy s
incapabilities of growing up and the falsehood that he lives in. John Cheever wants
the readers to understand that Neddy s life is only a downfall as the years go by,
and that his outlook on life doesn t change until he realizes all his actions have left
him alone. To set the tone of the story, the author uses metaphors of different objects
to show Neddy s changes in life, change of diction to set a tone from excellence to
weakness, and Neddy s life paralleled through the imagery described in this short
story. Cheever uses metaphors throughout The Swimmer to cleverly explain to the
audience without actually saying how Neddy s life really turned out. The most
profound metaphor throughout this short story is the swimming pool. The pools that
Neddy swims through represent the periods of time that occurred in his life and how
each was different than the other. During the first ... Show more content on

People swim through life, feeling comfortable with their surroundings and the
people with them on this journey, but sometimes they might be exposed from this
security blanket to realize that they aren t who they thought they were. Extramarital
affairs, depression, midlife crises, and loss of self are all aspects that might happen
in someones life that eat away at relationships people form with their loved ones. In
this short story, The Swimmer. John Cheever shows how all the literary devices of
powerful metaphors, realistic imagery, and parallel diction combine into one to
make a powerful story of how a person faces
Makeup Is The Most Popular Eye Makeup
Makeup has been around for over 10,000 years because women have always strived
to make themselves perfect. Makeup is cosmetics such as lipstick or powder applied
to the face and is used to enhance or alter the appearance.Over the years the use of
makeup has been used for many things other than enhancing a womans natural
beauty. Women wear makeup to look more appealing and boost their confidence
rather than wearing it for a man. For instance eye makeup was onced used for
getting rid of spirits and better sight according to makeup enhance. According to
makeup enhance black and green was the most popular eye makeup colors. They
decorated their eyes by applying dark green to the under lid and using kohl to
outline the eyes, creating that alluring almond eye look ( Makeup Enhance). This
is an example of makeup being used for other purposes rather than for what people
think the only reason is which is to Look beautiful. When all women are already
beautiful. Lipstick has been around for many decades. Lipstick is a waxy solid
usually colored cosmetic in stick form for the lips (Merriam Webster). Egyptians
had used two ingredients that are extremely deadly when combined together. Soon
the lipstick had became known as the kiss of death . However they continued using
the color to get red lips. Damien Gayle, author of Why red lips can make a woman
look younger , found that the redness of lips decreases with aging. Red lips Over the

Early Christian Gender Roles
This paper will show that women played a vitally important role in the development
of the early Christian church. Women were the last disciples at the foot of the cross,
and they were the first witnesses at the empty tomb. Due to a predominately
patriarchal society, this may be one of the best kept secrets in Christianity(Kroger).
During the time of Jesus ministry, women were considered inferior to men in
virtually every way. Society expected them to stay at home and to be good wives
and mothers. Women took no part in public discussions or education, and responsible
teachers at the time did not teach women. However, Jesus not only taught women, he
included them in his group of devoted followers. This was a powerful example of
inclusion to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will begin by addressing 1 Corinthians 14:34 35 which states, women should be
silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be
subordinate as the law also says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them
ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church
(Coogan). It must be noted that in this very same letter 1 Corinthians Paul makes it
clear that women did participate in prayer and prophecy in the church. This fact by
itself shows that 1 Corinthians 14:34 35 cannot be regarded as a general and
absolute prohibition against women speaking in church. The silence then must be a
very specific and limited silence for a particular reason. One possible explanation is
to understand that this verse is referring to women asking disruptive questions.
Throughout this chapter, we see that Paul is concerned in having peace and order in
the church meetings. Evidently, the meetings at Corinth had been a bit chaotic with
everybody trying to speak at the same time. Basically, Paul was telling them to speak
one at a time and stop interrupting (Morrison, Women ).
Because wives were usually uneducated in the culture of that time, they would have
numerous questions during the church meetings. . Paul is concerned with correct
behavior and order to allow true learning to occur. Because this can

Domestic abuse is an uncomfortable topic, but it needs to be addressed. Domestic
abuse is a complex thing, and not everyone is going to have the same opinion
about it. I have learned that while domestic abuse may seem like something that is
easy to get yourself out of, it really is not. Cisneros thinks domestic abuse is a
problem. Sally s dad is abusing her. Esperanza tells us that Sally says he never hits
me hard (92). This phrase is repeated to imply that the abuse is inevitable and is
going to happen no matter what for Sally. The rhyming of hard, lard, and scarred
brings attention to the important parts of this passage. These words not only
rhyme, but they bring attention to the violence and hopelessness. In Linoleum
Roses, Cisneros tells us that she is happy and he is okay, but then she contradicts
that by saying he won t let her talk on the telephone. And he doesn t let her look out
the window. And he doesn t like her friends, so nobody gets to visit her unless he is
working (101). Sally is convincing herself that these actions are okay, or maybe
even normal because she wants to be with him. Both of these quotes have the same
feeling of hopelessness. Cisneros thinks that the abuse is wrong, but it is what it is.
Overall, Cisneros does not think abuse is okay, but she knows it is part of life for
most people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Appearance vs. Reality in Peter Shaffer s Amadeus
In the world of the 18th century, appearance was everything; and appearance often
conflicted with reality. Such is the case in Peter
Shaffer s, Amadeus, which follows Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s musical career.
Mozart s career was enveloped in deceit and falsity, appearing to be brought on by
poor choices he made, when all along he was being sabotaged by Salieri. When
Mozart arrives in Vienna, Antonio Salieri pretends to welcome him. He even writes
a welcome March for Mozart, to be played as the young, rebellious musician enters
the court. However, Salieri hates Mozart from the beginning. Salieri is nice to

that dingy alley where he lived. Stationed myself beneath his window. And waited.

Mozart sees him standing below his window, and invites the ghastly figure up to his
room. Salieri begins tramping up the stairs with feet of stone and enters the place
where Mozart lives. The poor musician is half mad and ranting about his incomplete

Analysis Of The Decline Of Radicalism By Daniel J.
Boorstin
Blood for Blood The exchange of opinions is not always a pleasant experience.
Conventionally, such exchanges lead to debates and arguments. Although the side
with more supporters may seem morally correct, the minority is the component of
change, risking everything to push their ideas through, even if it results in violence.
In an excerpt from The Decline of Radicalism, Daniel J. Boorstin emphasizes the
dichotomy between dissent and disagreement. According to Boorstin, disagreement
expresses a differing opinion that may promote debate, whereas dissenting places the
dissenters into the minority. Boorstin also claims that disagreement is beneficial to
democracy, while dissension is cancerous. Boorstin s assertion is heavily flawed;

Hypothesis Of A Hypothesis Test
Hypothesis testing is very essential in statistical analysis. It is quite imperative to
state both a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis when conducting a
hypothesis test because the hypotheses are mutually exclusive and if one statement
is true then the other is proven as false. According to Mirabella (2011, p. 4 1) states
that, When we have a theory about a parameter (the average is...,the proportion
is....,etc), we can test that theory via a hypothesis test. Therefore, that is what we
have used to determine if the average age of Whatsamatta U MBA students is less
than 45. We have to conduct a one sample hypothesis test to prove if we can accept
or reject the null hypothesis. In order to determine what decision rule, which is the
statement that tells under which condition to reject the null hypothesis, to propose
we must first determine if we are instituting a upper tailed, lower tailed, or two tailed
test. There are many steps used when initiating a hypothesis test. First and foremost it
is vital to specify the null and alternative hypothesis, next we have to determine a
significance level that is tolerable such as 0.05 which is your tolerance for error, and
last we have to calculate the statistic that is comparable to the parameters set by the
null hypothesis.
Additionally, when utilizing hypothesis testing, we are attempting to determine
whether or not to accept or reject the null hypothesis. Furthermore, we have to
determine if there is enough
Internal Conflict In Sonny s Blues
Sonny s Blues
In James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues it is only when a brother loses his child that he
realizes how easy it can be to lose his brother. The narrator s little brother, Sonny,
was left in his charge when their parents passed away. He neglects Sonny and
leaves him to work through hard decisions on his own which leads to Sonny being
picked up by the police for using and selling drugs. When the narrator s daughter,
Grace, passes he sees how suffering can affect people and reaches out to Sonny, who
is fighting to make his way in the world through music. Baldwin shows us that you
don t have to see eye to eye on everything to accept that person. The narrator doesn t
agree with his brother s use of drugs and the comfort he finds in music. When the
news of his Sonny s arrest arrives he brushes it aside, not seeing a need to reach out to
his brother. I couldn t find any room for it anywhere inside me. He resents his brother
because he believes Sonny is intentionally suffering. When he reaching out to Sonny
he sees that music is helping him and the narrator begins to accept his different path.
Filling the air with the immense suggestion that Sonny speak for himself. He doesn t
try to persuade him to follow a path that guarantees success but embraces his way of
overcoming his suffering. The narrator s internal conflict displays that is having a
hard time reaching out and accepting Sonny because of the decisions he made. In the

The Effects Of Water Pollution On The World And It...
Water pollution is one of the most undesirable environmental problems in the world
and it requires solutions. Textile industries produce a lot of wastewater, which
contains a number of contaminants, including acidic or caustic dissolved solids,
toxic compounds, and any different dyes, many of these dyes are carcinogenic,
mutagenic, and toxic to human beings, fish species, and microorganisms. Hence,
their removal from aquatic wastewaterbecomes environmentally important.
There are several methods available for color removal from waters and wastewaters
such as membrane separation, aerobic and anaerobic degradation using various
microorganisms, chemical oxidation, coagulation and flocculation, and reverse
osmosis. Some of these techniques have been shown to be effective however they
have some limitations such as excess amount of chemical usage, accumulation of
concentrated sludge that has serious disposal problems and lack of effective color
reduction. The adsorption technique, which is based on the transfer of pollutants from
the solution to the solid phase, is known as one of the efficient and general
wastewater treatment method
The method is superior to other dye removal techniques in terms of initial cost,
simplicity of design, ease of operation, and non toxicity of the utilized adsorbents
compared to other conventional wastewater treatment methods.
The cost effectiveness, availability and adsorptive properties are the main criteria in

Elan Journo explains in his article, Multiculturalisms War on Education :
Multiculturalism seeks to obliterate the value of a free, industrialized civilization by
declaring that such a civilization is no better than primitive tribalism. We are opposed
to this Some opponents argue that multiculturalism is actually racism in disguise. In
their opinion, the meaning of multiculturalism is that an individual s identity and
personal worth are determined by ethnic/racial membership not by his own choices
and actions (Rand). This leads to the impression that a person s identity is determined
by skin color, and therefore people separate into ethnic groups. Those in opposition to
multiculturalism believe that college students have become racial separatists, that
they form self segregated dormitories and choose friends based on ethnicity. The
supporting side also believes that multiculturalism in education is an essential part of
college. Studies have found that appreciation for diversity is lacking on college
campuses. Evidence shows that among the growing tensions on college campuses,
multiculturalism remains the most unresolved issue on campus [in the US] today
(Bikson Law p. 91). Frequent campus reports of racially motivated hate crimes imply
that this remains a huge issue. Proponents

Abstract
In light of recent court cases such as O Bannon v. National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA), the issue of whether intercollegiate student athletes should be
compensated for their athletic appearances on behalf of colleges has been featured
in the news and been the subject of much scholarly writing. Some of the major
streams of literature focus on the pros and cons of pay for play by looking at existing
laws in the United States, the concept of amateurism, and the primary mission of
colleges and universities. As institutions of higher education and the NCAA continue
to battle over the appropriate role of profit and amateurism in college athletics, this
topic is important for anyone considering higher education administration as a career
as it impacts all colleges participating in intercollegiate athletics. Keywords: pay for

Odysseus the Epic by Homer
Ever since the beginning of time men and women have told countless stories of
adventure, discovery, and conquest. These stories often divulge the grand adventures
of epic heroes. An epic hero is someone with abundant importance whose actions
involve perilous journeys and marvelous warrior skills in war or battle (Abram). In
Homer s Odyssey, Odysseus, the king of the great island of Ithaca, is called to fight
alongside the Greeks in the Trojan War. The Greeks defeated the Trojans with the
help of clever Odysseus Trojan horse. Odysseus qualifies as an epic hero because,
like all epic heroes, Odysseus undertakes a long, dangerous journey, demonstrates his
extraordinary speaking skills by speaking to countless friends and enemies with...

when they enter your city or home. Although Odysseus curse does not do anything
to Antinous, this curse frightens the rest of the suitors who believe that the beggar
could be a god in disguise. The curse is a demonstration of his incredible speaking
skills, and helps prove that Odysseus is an epic hero. While on Ithaca, Odysseus is
severely outnumbered and resorts to whatever methods he can think of to defeat
them (Frank). His clever disguise as a beggar is a method that Odysseus used to
defeat the beggars by entering his palace. Odysseus persuasive, magnificent, and
incredible speaking skills help prove that he is becoming an epic hero. All epic
heroes have to face supernatural or superhuman forces or foes (Allingham).
Odysseus also faces and defeats divine gods, Cyclopes, and other supernatural
beings. The most dangerous foe that Odysseus has to face is Poseidon, god of the
sea. Poseidon puts a curse on Odysseus, making his journey much longer and more
difficult than it had to be. Odysseus overcomes Poseidon s curse by surviving and

Second Great Awakening
The Antebellum Period in America occurred between 1815 1860. During this time,
religion, economic expansion, and social reform all greatly changed the United States
and ultimately formed the nation that we have today. The Second Great Awakening
greatly impacted religion and provided an opportunity for social reform movements;
while the market revolution permanently changed the American economy. The
preferred belief of many of America s framers, Deism is predominantly hostile to
organized churches and saw a decrease in the amount of followers because
Christianitybecame predominant in American society. Led by established religious
leaders alarmed by low church attendance, the Second Great Awakening began around
1790 and gained momentum in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The completion of the canal instantaneously attracted an influx of immigrant farmers
who gave birth to cities like Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. Some people,
however, chose to move West during this time of economic revolution. Elizabeth F.

preparation to start in January with his brother.
The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 played a critical role in the Market
Revolution because it allowed trade and travel to occur more often, thus lowering
prices and encouraging economic competition. Overall, the Antebellum Period in the
United States is significant not only because it serves as a precursor to the Civil War,
but also because the Second Great Awakening, social reform, and the market
revolution all occurred in this time period. Ideas like temperance and total
emancipation are controversial in the Antebellum Period, partly because of the
religious movement that was simultaneously occurring. The market was growing
quickly, and the invention of the steamboat and the completion of the Erie Canal only
made trade more accessible and affordable. The Antebellum Period foreshadowed an
American future in which slavery is illegal and trade is more accessible. Together, the
market revolution and the Second Great Awakening strengthened American both
morally and economically, and as Ralph Waldo Emerson writes in 1837, We

it would be possible to experience new places and travel, which is a great perk

negative facet of the job. It could also be very stressful to endure the loss of a case

Carl Jung s Concept Of Individuation
Carl Jung s concept of individuation is the quest for wholeness in which the subject
becomes conscious of themselves as unique and distinct. Seated very much in the
tradition of enlightenment, the idea places emphasis on the individual s capacity to
gain further understanding and knowledge through analysis and reasoning,
investing the individual with the power to defy trends and avoid group think.
Imagine a tiny pebble thrown into a pond, causing a rippling effect through the
surrounding water. Although the pebble is small, it causes multiple ripples that
significantly change the pond, even if temporarily. Similarly, a single character in
a novel can cause ripples in the lives of other characters. Our actions and choices
are capable of causing ripples in the ponds of other s realities, even those largely
disconnected from our own. These ripples shape a person s impression of
individuality and of their Self. In Robertson DaviesFifth Business, even the minor
characters that Dunstan Ramsay encounters, as well as his various experiences have
different degrees of impact on his process of Individuation. Throughout the novel,
Dunstan is self reflective and becomes aware not only of how he is being shaped,
but of himself as an identifiable form, at once shaped by his environment and
propelled by his will. Carl Jungdefined an archetype as [an] original model of a

considering an injection of $20 million worth of mezzanine debt/growth capital in E

opportunity like E bar could either be the next Cheesecake Factory, or flop and take
the debt injection along with it. E bar has shown initial success in California, but
Allied s investment committee needed to evaluate if this continued success can be
applied outside the state. Areas of main concern included if the E bar concept was
sufficiently strong to visit and be a nationwide brand or if it had been merely a
California concept. And in the case of success, would Allied Capital be able to
meet is underwriting standards? Based upon the Black Scholes formula and the
financial information provided in this case, it is recommended that a current stock
price of $6.18 be used and the warrant agreement be increased to 3.9% of total
shares outstanding to yield an IRR of 18%. This report will support and examine E

I Am A Mystery Enthusiast
Since I am a mystery enthusiast as well as a major Brennan Elliott fanatic, when the
first Flower Shop Mystery film premiered, I quickly became acquainted with as
many of the cast as possible. And that meant connecting with the handsome guy who
played Dave King, the other lawyer who had an unrequited interest in Abby.
Regardless, Christian Lloyd portrayed him flawlessly, and he was very kind to

Christian was more than merely an actor, and recently, I had the opportunity to chat

discrimination is evident with in our community which has started some movements
to battle the issue of racism and the discrimination. Some movements are Black Lives

by Colin Kaepernick back in 2016. The Black Lives Matter movement was started
because of all the police brutality that we have seen in the media. The kneeling in the

he deems as wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in the United

The Impact Of The Minimum Wage
Anyone can drive through a drive thru at midnight. Anyone can go to the store
whenever they need to pick something up. But, not everyone stops to think about the
workers who slide the debit card or bag the groceries. Many times, these people are
making the minimum wage. Their lives and wages are effected by an economy which
never seems to stop changing. Due to the federal minimum wagebeing recently
increased, potential effects on employment can be explored on a national trend, in
individual states with higher minimum wages, and in the lives of teens.
In 1938, the United States sat in the middle of its biggest economic downfall
known as the Great Depression. The majority of the country struggled through
poverty with little chance of gaining employment. To try and help bring the country
back to its feet, the United States federal government set a payment level known as
the minimum wage. Over time, the wage has been used to insure all employees
receive some sort of fair wage which is ideally high enough to live off of. As a
result, the minimum wage has continually been adjusted to match inflation and other
factors of an ever changing economy. The most recent minimum wage increase
came on July 24, 2009, and it rose to $7.25 as can be found in the Fair Labor
Standards Act (United States Department of Labor). With an economy that continues
to change, it is no surprise national employment rates do as well. Due to the direct
correlation between the two, it is easy

1. Poodles are one of the dog breeds that require very high maintenance. Their curly

the amount of acquisitions he has made. Even though people doubted Ellison

The CEO of Oracle has a strong ability to exercise his power and influence in the

Positive And Negative Effects Of Thermoregulation
Thermoregulation is the control of the body s temperature. Normal body core
temperature is typically around 37 В°C, staying within a functional range of 35 to 41
В°C. (PГ©riard et al., 2015) Temperature during exercise can have both positive and
negative effects and therefore it is important to manage it through training and heat
acclimatisation. It has been found that power output and speed of cyclists decreased
during hot conditions. (Racinais, S et al., 2015) However, due to heat acclimatisation
the decrements were progressively increased, therefore suggesting that heat
acclimatisation can be used successfully. (PГ©riard et al., 2015). Similarly, it can be
found that exercise increases body temperatureand the resulting heat stored becomes
a factor inhibiting exercise performance. Loss of heat by evaporation can eventually
hinder performance. Therefore, it is again found that acclimatization improves
performance by affecting heat loss mechanisms. (Reilly et al, 2006). A study was
carried out by Webborn et al., (2005) to test weather precooling/cooling in
intermittent sprint exercises in a hot environment would reduce a rise in core
temperature. 8 male participants took part in 4 heat stress trials with the independent
variables being no cooling control, 20 min of precooling and cooling during exercise.
Each participant took a pill measuring core body temperature and the results found
that during 80 minutes of passive rest in heated conditions, body temperature rose

social, economic, and cultural change in the United States. The end of the Civil War,
the shrinking of the frontier, the rise of immigration, and the rapid growth of industry

Hewitt. Throughout his speech Hewitt uses a metaphor comparing the way the
Brooklyn Bridge was built to the way government should run but does not, and in
the process he reveals a lot about the individual s duty to society. Hewitt first
demonstrates how the building of the Brooklyn Bridge required the organization of
all engineering knowledge, not just the work of one or a few men. This
compounding of knowledge upon itself and discovery allows human progress to
grow exponentially and was the mechanism of the industrial explosion of the late
19th and early 20th centuries. He extends this same thinking to the way governments
are run by asking why knowledge of governments has not matched the growth of
other areas of knowledge. His answer is that governments are run by organizing the
ignorance of society rather than its intelligence. Elected officials are not educated
enough on how to run society, yet people elect them anyways and complain when
they fail. The solution he poses to this problem really ties the duties of individuals to
society into his discussion. Instead of attempting to restrict suffrage, let us try to

Tuesdays With Morrie, By Mitch Albom
Throughout the novel Tuesdays With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on
his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness,
and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals The Meaning of Life, which they
discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death,
Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly
conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And
Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this
wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks
with Albom, the two talk about Death. Describing the discussion, Albom uses
strategies such as irony filled dialogue and existential oxymoron to divulge Morrie
s wisdom and opinions on death, dying, and how the world perceives it all. Morrie
says to Mitch at the very beginning of their discussion, everyone knows they re
going to die, but nobody believes it... If we did, we would do things differently.
Experiencing death himself, knowing that he has run out of years, the old professor
can no longer run from death, and instead knows and accepts it as an inevitable fact.
The irony lies in the fact that everyone ignores this reality, and the saying appeals to
the logos of the audience because it is widely held as truth that, as a whole, humans
ignore death. However, Morrie says that if people didn t, they would have completely

What Do John Maynard Keynes, Richard Norgaard, And
Fred...
What do John Maynard Keynes, Richard Norgaard, and Fred Block and Margaret
Somers have in common? They all challenge widely accepted economic thinking and
support thoughtful, progressive government action in the midst of social crises. In
the 1930s, Keynes debunks a rationale for a laissez faire system that was perpetuating
large scale human suffering and made a strong recommendation for government
intervention. Norgaard then broadens Keynes s critique of assumptions underlying
free market ideology to include all widely unquestioned and accepted economic
beliefs which he terms economism and urges a transformation of this belief system
toward discursive democracy to enable effective environmental regulation and
economic redistribution (lecture). Adopting Keynes s focus on empirics while using
a similar explanation as Norgaard, Block and Somers criticize a study of late
eighteenth century British poor laws that is commonly used to oppose welfare policy
while explaining that its widespread, unquestioning citation in academia and policy
analysis points to the pervasiveness of conservative assumptions about the poor and
what is natural. Altogether, these authors urge us to reconsider dominant economic
stories that lack a circumspect, factual basis as we consider various social,
environmental, and economic policy alternatives.
John Maynard Keynes is the first economic maverick here who calls attention to the
flaws in common economic assumptions while also expanding the

a)If I want to run any social movement. I will go for the Anti corruption movement,
this is because I belong to the developing country, most closely underdeveloped
country and every task is run with the under the table theory. Because this is wrong
for the merit base seekers people. In my society have to pay under the table in every
step of work either it is in government office or in private sector.
b)I will tell them true stories of the people who got their work done by giving the
money to the officers. Recently, this is true case, my sister planned to take the
admission in MBBS she qualifies the all requirements of this medical education and
she nearly got the admission but she have to pay three million PK rupees which is
almost three thousand dollar, which is too expensive to just take the admission
without course fees. Then she took admission in the BDS dental education with still
paying bribe of nine hundred thousand without the course fees and with
Essay on Spanish Colonialism and the Indigenous People of...
Spanish Colonialism and the Indigenous People of Bolivia
Prior to Spanish discovery of the new world, the area now known as Bolivia was
home to three major ethnic and linguistic groups; the Uru, Aymara, and Quechua.
The Uru lived on rafts, fishing and foraging along the shore of Lake Titicaca. The
Aymara dominated the Uru, reducing their status to poor fishermen and landless
workers. Aymara society was built upon a basic social unit of kinship that organized
the distribution of labor, and this system, termed ayllu, was later adopted by
conquering Quechua. The Aymara are known for their practice of freeze drying
potatoes high in the mountains, for their organized systems of irrigation, and their
control of colonies in warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francisco Pizarro, Diego de Almagro and Hernando de Luque lead the discovery and
conquest of the Inca Empire. Francisco Pizarro arrived at the Pacific coast of the
Inca empire in 1531 via the Panama Canal. He gained support from indigenous
peoples who resented Inca dominance. At the time the Inca ruler, Atahualpa, had
recently murdered a brother to obtain the throne and was in the midst of
attempting to consolidate political power. Atahualpa first encountered Pizarro on
November 16, 1532 and was promptly taken prisoner while 180 Spaniards kept an
Inca army of 40,000 at bay with cannon, firearms and swords. The Inca were forced
to compile upwards of 39,400 pounds of gold and silver to ransom their leader and
pay the invaders to leave. When the bounty was assembled Atahulapa was simply
ordered to choose his method of death; burning at the stake or strangulation. He chose
the later and Pizarro proceeded to conquer the former empire. Although the Spanish
conquered the empire with relative ease rebellions by indigenous peoples would
plague the Iberian authority throughout their reign of colonial dominance.
Spain effectively ruled the area that is now Bolivia from 1532 1825, yet the crown
encountered difficulty controlling the actions of its officials. Initial settlement of the
highlands was delayed by a war between Pizarro
Mental Health Stigma Of A Car Crash Of Someone She
Cared...
Shaneika,
Sue witnessing a car crash of someone she cared about can be tragic. In this
particular case it is necessary to show empathy toward her. I think that if you didn
t, you may have a very hard time getting her to talk. I agree with you, I think small
talk would probably be a good way to get her to talk about her issues. One thing I
would be concerned about with Sue is that I would ant her to elaborate on the
subject rather than for her to just talk about it. Sue may hold back on how she feels
for some reason, perhaps because of the mental health stigma or she may not want to
talk about it for no reason at all. Conducting research on her background is a great
idea because it can reveal something s about her thinking. Sue said she thought drugs
were a part of her culture. To me this show miscommunication between Sue and her
parents. It was a good idea for the social worker to have Sue and her mother talk.
Since sue is having a hard time, I think it would be a good idea to have a family
therapy or at least a group therapy also. She needs support, after witnessing a death of
someone close to her anything can be going through her mind. Sue described dreams
and images of the night of her boyfriend s death and stated that she felt haunted and
was confused about what to do with her life (Fong, R., Furuto, S. 2001 pg.406).
Sue increase her grades at the end of the twelve weeks which shows that she was
doing a lot better because before she was dropping her grades.

Essay on The Science of Rocks
1.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), there are two types of igneous rocks
extrusive and intrusive and the primary difference between the two types of
igneous rocks is that the rocks are formed in two separate locations: within the
Earth s crust and on the Earth s surface (35). Extrusive igneous rocks form when
magma rises all the way through the crust to erupt onto Earth s surface (35). Since
the crystals do not have much time to grow, extrusive sedimentary rocks, also
commonly known as volcanic rocks, have fine grained textures, with crystals too
small to be seen with the naked eye (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). For example, basalt
is a common very fine grained volcanic rock. On the other hand, intrusive igneous
rocks form when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference in the mineral composition is apparent in the rocks color and grain
texture. Since basalt is a mafic rock, it tends to have a dark green to black, dark
color, while granite tends to have a clear, white, and pink light color (Thompson
Turk, 2011, 37). Additionally, because basalt is an extrusive igneous rock
, it has a
very fine grained texture, meaning that the crystals are nearly impossible to see
(Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). On the other hand, granite is an intrusive igneous rock,
meaning that it has a medium or coarse grained texture, where the mineral grains and
crystals are easily visible (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36).
3.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), sedimentary rocks are broadly divided
into four categories: clastic, organic, chemical, and bioclastic rocks. Clastic
sedimentary rock is composed of particles of weathered rocks, such as sand grains
and pebbles (also known as clasts), which have been transported, deposited, and
lithified (38). Clastic rocks, such as shale, siltstone, and sandstone, are composed of
fragments of older rocks: clay, silt, and sand (38). Moreover, organic sedimentary
rocks consist of lithified remains of plants or animals, and the most common
examples are coal, which is made up of decomposed and compacted plant remains and
The Domestic Factors Of Brazil
Analysis of the relevant domestic factors
Brazil ranks as the fourth largest exporter in the world excluding export of cotton
fibre and the second largest employer in the country. The Brazilian textile and
fashion industry has 30,000 companies and it is worth up to $63bn. This industry
produces 9.5 million garments every year. There is a higher demand for Brazilian
designers such as Oskelin, Carlos Miele, and Alexander Herchcovich within the
growing middle class society. Brazilian Fashion Designers Association (ABEST)
was started less than 10 years and now they have 54 members exporting textile to
48 countries. However, Brazilian Textile and Garment Association (ABIT) imports
60% of the garments worth up to $1.450bn from China and it is a 500% increase
since 2006. The board of ABIT has raise awareness about the Brazilian textile
industry at a governmental level and offer assistance to become more competitive.
The problem is the production cost levels and the cost of labour in Brazil is higher. In
addition, the international trade rules and procedures of Brazil are more complex and
the international trade is not supported by any international agreements. As a result,
the domestic market of Brazilian textile industry only produces for local retailers and
customers. Brazil is an interesting case among the developing huge producers of
textile around the world with its solid local business sector (Pasquinelli, 2012).
The Brazilian fashion industry appears to have in constructed

  • 3. Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567 1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685 1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to find out how music changed throughout the Baroque period. While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti s other psalms is that it is the only psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation, consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send. While both pieces are a part of each composer s library of sacred music, they are in some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Aside from that, Monteverdi, being more

With these struggles, the evolved traditions of government formed that would have great influence on the modern world. A clever, cruel, and untrustworthy ruler, King John, had three powerful enemies: King Philip II of France, PopeInnocent III, and his own English nobles. When John suffered a setback by losing a war with Philip II, he had to give up lands in Anjou and Normandy. Then he fought with Innocent III over selecting a new archbishop of Canterbury. The pope excommunicated him when John rejected the pope s nominee as well as placing Englandunder the interdict the papal order that forbade Church services in an entire kingdom. • 5. Social Class And Social Work Essay The purpose of this assignment is to Examine the extent to which social class determines life chances in contemporary Britain, and explore the relevance of the issue for students on a social work degree. Within this document I will identify and explore key concepts and approaches in the sociological analysis of social differentiation in modern society. I will then use these concepts and apply them to contemporary britain in order to explain how social classinfluences an individual s life chances. I will also discuss and examine the value of these theories to students on a social work course. Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological thinking as time progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s where social class divisions were seen as central to understanding differences in opportunity and life chances. Social class has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status. (1) These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx, Weber and Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however since it fails to explain other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality. Although there have been many attempts to link these inequalities to social class, no such connection has been found and other theoretical approaches have been needed from the likes of Andrew Pilkington, Kathwood Woodward and

Literary Devices In The Swimmer Oliwia Los 11/1/2014 Literary Analysis of The Swimmer In the short story, The Swimmer, John Cheever uses precise literary devices to emphasize the true meaning behind what the average reader might first gather. Throughout this short story, Neddy s journey is recorded through what he does and how the time changes. His actions of jumping from pool to pool show Neddy s incapabilities of growing up and the falsehood that he lives in. John Cheever wants the readers to understand that Neddy s life is only a downfall as the years go by, and that his outlook on life doesn t change until he realizes all his actions have left him alone. To set the tone of the story, the author uses metaphors of different objects to show Neddy s changes in life, change of diction to set a tone from excellence to weakness, and Neddy s life paralleled through the imagery described in this short story. Cheever uses metaphors throughout The Swimmer to cleverly explain to the audience without actually saying how Neddy s life really turned out. • 10. Early Christian Gender Roles This paper will show that women played a vitally important role in the development of the early Christian church. Women were the last disciples at the foot of the cross, and they were the first witnesses at the empty tomb. Due to a predominately patriarchal society, this may be one of the best kept secrets in Christianity(Kroger). During the time of Jesus ministry, women were considered inferior to men in virtually every way. Society expected them to stay at home and to be good wives and mothers. Women took no part in public discussions or education, and responsible teachers at the time did not teach women. However, Jesus not only taught women, he included them in his group of devoted followers. This was a powerful example of inclusion to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will begin by addressing 1 Corinthians 14:34 35 which states, women should be silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate as the law also says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church (Coogan). It must be noted that in this very same letter 1 Corinthians Paul makes it clear that women did participate in prayer and prophecy in the church. This fact by itself shows that 1 Corinthians 14:34 35 cannot be regarded as a general and absolute prohibition against women speaking in church. The silence then must be a very specific and limited silence for a particular reason. One possible explanation is to understand that this verse is referring to women asking disruptive questions. Throughout this chapter, we see that Paul is concerned in having peace and order in the church meetings. Evidently, the meetings at Corinth had been a bit chaotic with everybody trying to speak at the same time. Basically, Paul was telling them to speak one at a time and stop interrupting (Morrison, Women ). Because wives were usually uneducated in the culture of that time, they would have numerous questions during the church meetings. . Paul is concerned with correct behavior and order to allow true learning to occur. Because this can

I have learned that while domestic abuse may seem like something that is easy to get yourself out of, it really is not. Cisneros thinks domestic abuse is a problem. Sally s dad is abusing her. Esperanza tells us that Sally says he never hits me hard (92). This phrase is repeated to imply that the abuse is inevitable and is going to happen no matter what for Sally. The rhyming of hard, lard, and scarred brings attention to the important parts of this passage. These words not only rhyme, but they bring attention to the violence and hopelessness. In Linoleum Roses, Cisneros tells us that she is happy and he is okay, but then she contradicts that by saying he won t let her talk on the telephone. And he doesn t let her look out the window. And he doesn t like her friends, so nobody gets to visit her unless he is working (101). Sally is convincing herself that these actions are okay, or maybe even normal because she wants to be with him. Both of these quotes have the same feeling of hopelessness. Cisneros thinks that the abuse is wrong, but it is what it is. Overall, Cisneros does not think abuse is okay, but she knows it is part of life for most people.... Textile industries produce a lot of wastewater, which contains a number of contaminants, including acidic or caustic dissolved solids, toxic compounds, and any different dyes, many of these dyes are carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic to human beings, fish species, and microorganisms. Hence, their removal from aquatic wastewaterbecomes environmentally important. There are several methods available for color removal from waters and wastewaters such as membrane separation, aerobic and anaerobic degradation using various microorganisms, chemical oxidation, coagulation and flocculation, and reverse osmosis. Some of these techniques have been shown to be effective however they have some limitations such as excess amount of chemical usage, accumulation of concentrated sludge that has serious disposal problems and lack of effective color reduction. The adsorption technique, which is based on the transfer of pollutants from the solution to the solid phase, is known as one of the efficient and general wastewater treatment method The method is superior to other dye removal techniques in terms of initial cost, simplicity of design, ease of operation, and non toxicity of the utilized adsorbents compared to other conventional wastewater treatment methods. In their opinion, the meaning of multiculturalism is that an individual s identity and personal worth are determined by ethnic/racial membership not by his own choices and actions (Rand). This leads to the impression that a person s identity is determined by skin color, and therefore people separate into ethnic groups. Those in opposition to multiculturalism believe that college students have become racial separatists, that they form self segregated dormitories and choose friends based on ethnicity. The supporting side also believes that multiculturalism in education is an essential part of college. Studies have found that appreciation for diversity is lacking on college campuses. Evidence shows that among the growing tensions on college campuses, multiculturalism remains the most unresolved issue on campus [in the US] today (Bikson Law p. 91). The Second Great Awakening greatly impacted religion and provided an opportunity for social reform movements; while the market revolution permanently changed the American economy. The preferred belief of many of America s framers, Deism is predominantly hostile to organized churches and saw a decrease in the amount of followers because Christianitybecame predominant in American society. The completion of the canal instantaneously attracted an influx of immigrant farmers who gave birth to cities like Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. Some people, however, chose to move West during this time of economic revolution. Elizabeth F. Ellet writes, My husband was seized with the mania, and accordingly made preparation to start in January with his brother. The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 played a critical role in the Market Revolution because it allowed trade and travel to occur more often, thus lowering prices and encouraging economic competition. Overall, the Antebellum Period in the United States is significant not only because it serves as a precursor to the Civil War, but also because the Second Great Awakening, social reform, and the market revolution all occurred in this time period. Ideas like temperance and total emancipation are controversial in the Antebellum Period, partly because of the religious movement that was simultaneously occurring. The market was growing quickly, and the invention of the steamboat and the completion of the Erie Canal only made trade more accessible and affordable. The Antebellum Period foreshadowed an American future in which slavery is illegal and trade is more accessible. Together, the market revolution and the Second Great Awakening strengthened American both morally and economically, and as Ralph Waldo Emerson writes in 1837, We

Seated very much in the tradition of enlightenment, the idea places emphasis on the individual s capacity to gain further understanding and knowledge through analysis and reasoning, investing the individual with the power to defy trends and avoid group think. Imagine a tiny pebble thrown into a pond, causing a rippling effect through the surrounding water. Although the pebble is small, it causes multiple ripples that significantly change the pond, even if temporarily. Similarly, a single character in a novel can cause ripples in the lives of other characters. Our actions and choices are capable of causing ripples in the ponds of other s realities, even those largely disconnected from our own. These ripples shape a person s impression of individuality and of their Self. In Robertson DaviesFifth Business, even the minor characters that Dunstan Ramsay encounters, as well as his various experiences have different degrees of impact on his process of Individuation. Throughout the novel, Dunstan is self reflective and becomes aware not only of how he is being shaped, but of himself as an identifiable form, at once shaped by his environment and propelled by his will. But, not everyone stops to think about the workers who slide the debit card or bag the groceries. Many times, these people are making the minimum wage. Their lives and wages are effected by an economy which never seems to stop changing. Due to the federal minimum wagebeing recently increased, potential effects on employment can be explored on a national trend, in individual states with higher minimum wages, and in the lives of teens. In 1938, the United States sat in the middle of its biggest economic downfall known as the Great Depression. The majority of the country struggled through poverty with little chance of gaining employment. To try and help bring the country back to its feet, the United States federal government set a payment level known as the minimum wage. Over time, the wage has been used to insure all employees receive some sort of fair wage which is ideally high enough to live off of. As a result, the minimum wage has continually been adjusted to match inflation and other factors of an ever changing economy. The most recent minimum wage increase came on July 24, 2009, and it rose to $7.25 as can be found in the Fair Labor Standards Act (United States Department of Labor). With an economy that continues to change, it is no surprise national employment rates do as well. Due to the direct correlation between the two, it is easy

This compounding of knowledge upon itself and discovery allows human progress to grow exponentially and was the mechanism of the industrial explosion of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He extends this same thinking to the way governments are run by asking why knowledge of governments has not matched the growth of other areas of knowledge. Topics such as Death, Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks with Albom, the two talk about Death. They all challenge widely accepted economic thinking and support thoughtful, progressive government action in the midst of social crises. In the 1930s, Keynes debunks a rationale for a laissez faire system that was perpetuating large scale human suffering and made a strong recommendation for government intervention. Norgaard then broadens Keynes s critique of assumptions underlying free market ideology to include all widely unquestioned and accepted economic beliefs which he terms economism and urges a transformation of this belief system toward discursive democracy to enable effective environmental regulation and economic redistribution (lecture). Adopting Keynes s focus on empirics while using a similar explanation as Norgaard, Block and Somers criticize a study of late eighteenth century British poor laws that is commonly used to oppose welfare policy while explaining that its widespread, unquestioning citation in academia and policy analysis points to the pervasiveness of conservative assumptions about the poor and what is natural. Altogether, these authors urge us to reconsider dominant economic stories that lack a circumspect, factual basis as we consider various social, environmental, and economic policy alternatives. Then she took admission in the BDS dental education with still paying bribe of nine hundred thousand without the course fees and with
  • 43. Essay on Spanish Colonialism and the Indigenous People of... Spanish Colonialism and the Indigenous People of Bolivia Prior to Spanish discovery of the new world, the area now known as Bolivia was home to three major ethnic and linguistic groups; the Uru, Aymara, and Quechua. The Uru lived on rafts, fishing and foraging along the shore of Lake Titicaca. The Aymara dominated the Uru, reducing their status to poor fishermen and landless workers. Aymara society was built upon a basic social unit of kinship that organized the distribution of labor, and this system, termed ayllu, was later adopted by conquering Quechua. The Aymara are known for their practice of freeze drying potatoes high in the mountains, for their organized systems of irrigation, and their control of colonies in warm ... Francisco Pizarro arrived at the Pacific coast of the Inca empire in 1531 via the Panama Canal. He gained support from indigenous peoples who resented Inca dominance. At the time the Inca ruler, Atahualpa, had recently murdered a brother to obtain the throne and was in the midst of attempting to consolidate political power. Atahualpa first encountered Pizarro on November 16, 1532 and was promptly taken prisoner while 180 Spaniards kept an Inca army of 40,000 at bay with cannon, firearms and swords. The Inca were forced to compile upwards of 39,400 pounds of gold and silver to ransom their leader and pay the invaders to leave. When the bounty was assembled Atahulapa was simply ordered to choose his method of death; burning at the stake or strangulation. He chose the later and Pizarro proceeded to conquer the former empire. Although the Spanish conquered the empire with relative ease rebellions by indigenous peoples would plague the Iberian authority throughout their reign of colonial dominance. Spain effectively ruled the area that is now Bolivia from 1532 1825, yet the crown encountered difficulty controlling the actions of its officials. Initial settlement of the highlands was delayed by a war between Pizarro
  • 44. Mental Health Stigma Of A Car Crash Of Someone She Cared... Shaneika, Sue witnessing a car crash of someone she cared about can be tragic. In this particular case it is necessary to show empathy toward her. I think that if you didn t, you may have a very hard time getting her to talk. I agree with you, I think small talk would probably be a good way to get her to talk about her issues. One thing I would be concerned about with Sue is that I would ant her to elaborate on the subject rather than for her to just talk about it. Sue may hold back on how she feels for some reason, perhaps because of the mental health stigma or she may not want to talk about it for no reason at all. Conducting research on her background is a great idea because it can reveal something s about her thinking. Sue said she thought drugs were a part of her culture. To me this show miscommunication between Sue and her parents. It was a good idea for the social worker to have Sue and her mother talk. Since sue is having a hard time, I think it would be a good idea to have a family therapy or at least a group therapy also. She needs support, after witnessing a death of someone close to her anything can be going through her mind. Sue described dreams and images of the night of her boyfriend s death and stated that she felt haunted and was confused about what to do with her life (Fong, R., Furuto, S. 2001 pg.406). Sue increase her grades at the end of the twelve weeks which shows that she was doing a lot better because before she was dropping her grades. I
  • 45. Essay on The Science of Rocks 1.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), there are two types of igneous rocks extrusive and intrusive and the primary difference between the two types of igneous rocks is that the rocks are formed in two separate locations: within the Earth s crust and on the Earth s surface (35). Extrusive igneous rocks form when magma rises all the way through the crust to erupt onto Earth s surface (35). Since the crystals do not have much time to grow, extrusive sedimentary rocks, also commonly known as volcanic rocks, have fine grained textures, with crystals too small to be seen with the naked eye (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). For example, basalt is a common very fine grained volcanic rock. On the other hand, intrusive igneous rocks form when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The difference in the mineral composition is apparent in the rocks color and grain texture. Since basalt is a mafic rock, it tends to have a dark green to black, dark color, while granite tends to have a clear, white, and pink light color (Thompson Turk, 2011, 37). Additionally, because basalt is an extrusive igneous rock , it has a very fine grained texture, meaning that the crystals are nearly impossible to see (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). On the other hand, granite is an intrusive igneous rock, meaning that it has a medium or coarse grained texture, where the mineral grains and crystals are easily visible (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). 3.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), sedimentary rocks are broadly divided into four categories: clastic, organic, chemical, and bioclastic rocks. Clastic sedimentary rock is composed of particles of weathered rocks, such as sand grains and pebbles (also known as clasts), which have been transported, deposited, and lithified (38). Clastic rocks, such as shale, siltstone, and sandstone, are composed of fragments of older rocks: clay, silt, and sand (38). Moreover, organic sedimentary rocks consist of lithified remains of plants or animals, and the most common examples are coal, which is made up of decomposed and compacted plant remains and
  • 46. The Domestic Factors Of Brazil Analysis of the relevant domestic factors Brazil ranks as the fourth largest exporter in the world excluding export of cotton fibre and the second largest employer in the country. The Brazilian textile and fashion industry has 30,000 companies and it is worth up to $63bn. This industry produces 9.5 million garments every year. There is a higher demand for Brazilian designers such as Oskelin, Carlos Miele, and Alexander Herchcovich within the growing middle class society. Brazilian Fashion Designers Association (ABEST) was started less than 10 years and now they have 54 members exporting textile to 48 countries. However, Brazilian Textile and Garment Association (ABIT) imports 60% of the garments worth up to $1.450bn from China and it is a 500% increase since 2006. The board of ABIT has raise awareness about the Brazilian textile industry at a governmental level and offer assistance to become more competitive. The problem is the production cost levels and the cost of labour in Brazil is higher. In addition, the international trade rules and procedures of Brazil are more complex and the international trade is not supported by any international agreements. As a result, the domestic market of Brazilian textile industry only produces for local retailers and customers. Brazil is an interesting case among the developing huge producers of textile around the world with its solid local business sector (Pasquinelli, 2012). The Brazilian fashion industry appears to have in constructed
