War Takes Over Everything in Walt Whitman’s Poem, Drum Taps
The overall theme in Walt Whitman s Drum Taps is about the way war consumes everything and
monopolizes every facet of life; particularly the land the war is fought on. When analyzing the poem,
the first stanza talks about the movement of war from the farms, the second stanza talks about the
progression of war from the farm to the city. In stanza three this journey continues through the
battlefield, through the halls of power and finally into the homes, moving from the public to private
spheres of life. Throughout the entire poem there is an emphasized pulse of drums that beats within
the lines. This pulse of drums resonates throughout the entire poem and prompts me to wonder how
Whitman intended to utilize this mechanism. Furthermore, I want to uncover if the sounds of these
drums is symbolic in some way, and if they are, then I wonder if this symbolism represents a positive
view or negative view on war.
My first interpretation is that these drums represent Whitman s negative perspective on war. I feel that
the use of the pulse of drums throughout the poem acts as a mechanism that Whitman uses in order to
discourage war. I feel that these sounds are symbolic of the dire news at the time that consisted of the
battles. It seems that Whitman is addressing this pulse of drums in attempt to highlight the effect this
war will have on the country. In this poem, I see the clear cry for battle as a cry by someone who is
naïve and does not yet know what the ultimate cost of war

Ancient Greek Theater
Have you ever just wanted to kill your parents? Perhaps they are not letting you order a seventh slice
of cheese pizza at Chuck E. Cheese s, or not letting you hang out with that dreamy hunk Bryan on
Saturday. For Oedipus, killing his parents was not something petty he threatened when he got too
worked up, but rather his fate. This suspenseful and masterful plot, conceived by the legendary
playwright Sophocles, was one of the many groundbreaking works to come out of fifth century BC
Greece. Works of ancient Greek theater, particularly Oedipus the King, embodied the spirit of
innovation that fifth century BC Athens was known for.
The fifth century BC in Athens, aptly known as the Golden Age, was a time of great achievements in
art and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a long time, only one actor was used, and often times the play s author himself would perform.
However, probably due to demand on a single actor s physique and voice, two actors were introduced.
Sophocles finally introduced a third actor, but three was the most Greek plays ever employed (Ley
25). Reminiscent of the dithyrambs from which they originated, Greek plays included a chorus of
anywhere from twelve to twenty four members who would provide poetic interludes and narrations
(Ley 22).
Theatric spectacle in Greece was not an everyday commodity. In fact, plays were only performed once
a year, at the Dionysia (Knox xx). For each of three days, sunrise to sunset, playgoers would sit
through three tragedies, a more lighthearted and whimsical satyr play, and a comedy. The tragedies
and the satyr play of the day would all be by the same poet, while the comedy was by a different
playwright (Knox xx). At the conclusion of the festival, awards would be given to the tragedians by a
panel of judges. Historians have no record on whether or not one of Simon Cowell s early ancestors
was on the panel.
Said to have often been awarded first prize, sometimes second, but never third in the Dionysia,
Sophocles is one of the most renowned and influential playwrights of not only his time, but of all time
(Ley 35). Born in 496 BC, just at the dawn of the fifth century BC, Sophocles prospered as a

Music Censorship is Not Needed Essay
Music Censorship is Not Needed
Marilyn Manson. Eminem. Limp Bizkit. Rammstein. All of these musical artists have been under fire
in the past few years by government officials, the media, and activist groups. Supposedly, their music
conveys too violent of a message. The sounds and words these artists have so carefully crafted have
been targeted as the cause for violent acts, especially by young people. For example, Columbine
shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold idolized German industrial bands such as Rammstein and
KMFDM, as well as American shock rocker, Marilyn Manson. The public has been quick to blame
these musicians for violence in the United States. People are calling for government regulations in the

The government has taken some appropriate steps in making the public aware of the content of music
albums. Very few critics can deny that parental advisory labels are beneficial. Although adults and
children frequently ignore them, at least they make consumers aware of any potentially offensive
content. Parents concerned about extremely violent or offensive music can outright refuse to buy the
CD in question. Alternatively, parents can research and examine the content. However, stores such as
WalMart and K Mart have been known to ask artists to redesign their album covers or to release an
edited version of an album, simply because the stores feel a CD is potentially offensive. This practice,
however, goes a step too far. No store owner can please all customers. Either sell the CD with the
appropriate warning, or choose not to stock it. Additionally, stores that are so worried about sales
figures might consider the fact that such adult oriented material may attract a larger, slightly older
consumer base, one which would be willing to spend more money on other products.
One argument that is continually pulled into this debate is the First Amendment. According to the
United States Constitution, everyone is entitled to the right to free speech, which is a sacred American
belief. By submitting to censorship, artists are essentially

The Importance Of Cultural Awareness In Saudi Arabia
Cultural awareness starts with the understanding of the country in general, its people, and events,
which have taken place there. Culture is a complex concept, defined by the combination of values,
customs, and beliefs of the society, which characterize different groups of the community and guides
their behavior. Culture applies to each person, who is considered as a member of a group, who live in
the particular society (Eliot, 2014). Cultural awareness is the understanding of the traditions of another
culture and the ability to accept them (Clervaud, 2016). Living in the contemporary world, where
globalization has occupied many spheres of human life, cultural awareness is a significant part of the
successful cooperation. Saudi Arabia is a country with a specific culture, and its influence all over the
world has increased significantly due to oil deposits and a considerable jump in economic
development (Malachova, 2012). Even though religion is one of the central spheres in Saudi Arabia,
cultural awareness of this country can be achieved by understanding the particular characteristics of a
region, its geography and military features, human relations and behavior.
Since culture is explained through the understanding of the region through studying its values and
traditions, it possesses some particular characteristics. Thus, it is possible to learn any culture; one can
easily share culture with others (Eliot, 2014). Culture integrates into a person and its activities.

Fifty Shades Of Grey Summary
The thesis of the paper is ISIS/ISIL romancing of vulnerable Western women and luring them into
their caliphate through new technology (e.g., social media). The majority of the women being
recruited are those who share the ideology that Muslim s are being systematically oppressed. Then
there is the fascination of an Arabian Knights tale of being married to a jihadi warrior; add to this, this
fantasy of a worldly romance, being a devout wife and mother is appealing to idealistic young girls
who thirst for adventure. Those who are pariahs in Western society find this change appealing; thus,
the idea of creating and living in a new society, a utopia, is a dream come true for many of these
young women/girls. However, as with most organizations, there is a dark side, even darker than Fifty
Shades of Grey. These women and young girls eventually come to realize that they are no more than
sex and reproductive slaves. The brutal reality of this existence has left a trail of broken hearts among
the relatives of these young women/girls in their native countries. A once perceived beneficent
purpose has turned into a hellish nightmare for many of these women/girls who are now trapped in a
world far from home. What would be the reasoning of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lorely Rodriguez Me Essay
Me. It s a cryptic name for an album, a word that can mean so much and so little, and for Lorely
Rodriguez s Empress Of project, it s a fitting title. Me is interesting lyrically, and even more so
musically it s not exactly an exploration of the self as much as it is an inhabitation. That is, Rodriguez
uses her unique identity and experiences to craft balanced, adaptable songs that can be perceived as
intellectual or physical art, as food for thought or as primal messages. Me is such a well rounded and
confident record, yet there is a sense of ricketiness to it, as if it has no right to reach this high into the
stratosphere; there s very little wrong with it, though. With Me, Rodriguez has crafted a formidable
debut album: it s a self assured work that manages to be both experimental and accessible, an album
that never fails to please, whether you re embroiled in thought or swept onto the dancefloor.
Balance is a theme throughout the record; experimental and established pop methods run hand in
hand, as do the eclectically airy instrumentals with Rodriguez s simply delivered vocals. Perhaps the
most important duality here is one of beauty and ferocity; it s this harmony that ... Show more content

The Role Of Refugees In Inside Out And Back Again
The universal refugee experience of fleeing and finding home relates to the title Inside Out and Back

how it is shown in Há s story. Há, for example, was very stubborn and jealous of her brothers. She was

The Components Of Social Work
The main element that drew me to the profession of social work was the diverse opportunities
available. Social work is a very flexible field that consists of many different components such as
family and child welfare, poverty and inequality, and substance abuse/ addiction. The main component
of social work that interests me is working with people who have disabilities, mental and/or physical.
According to our textbook about 11.3% of social workers with bachelor s work in this field (Cox,
Tice, Long, 2016, pg. 17). I discovered that I was interested in this component of social work after a
traumatic experience that left me with a disability.
Component of Social Work A disability is usually defined as a decline in function that can either be
temporary or permanent. There are two main groupings of disabilities; categorial and functional.
Categorial disabilities include mental illnesses and sensory damage which often leads to
developmental delays. In comparison, functional disabilities cause limitations during physical activity.
Individuals can also suffer from more than one disability which is known as a co occurring disability
(Cox et al., 2016, pg. 159). Social workers often view disabilities in three types; developmental
disabilities, physical disabilities, and mental disabilities. A developmental disability is a long term
disability that is typically diagnosed before age 22. These disabilities include Autism, Cerebral Palsy,
and Down Syndrome (Cox et al., 2016, pg.

Religion Vs. Self-interest in Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel...
This paper is an attempt to examine the seeming opposition of religion vs. self interest with respect to
the character of Robinson Crusoe. I will venture to demonstrate that in the novel, Defoe illustrates the
contradictions with which Crusoe must contend as he strives to please God while ensuring his own
survival in the world. In part, I will endeavor to show that a distorted sense of Puritanism as well as
the existing colonial mindset exacerbated this opposition, and resulted in what I propose to be Defoe s
(possibly retroactive) imposition of a religious justification for Crusoe s actions. Crusoe s journey in
the canoe exemplifies the reality of his life in that, although he longs to please and obey God, he must
also contend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this instance, therefore, it is shown that the ideal relationship with God contradicts his instinct. In a
way, the journey in the canoe in itself contradicts the idea of providence. The purpose of the journey
for Crusoe was to obtain more knowledge. Prior to this journey, however, he states Thus I liv d mighty
comfortably, my mind being entirely composed by resigning to the will of God, and throwing myself
wholly upon the disposal of his Providence. (108) Very shortly after this declaration of his submission
to Providence, when referring to his exploration of the island on foot, Crusoe says that the discoveries
I made in that little journey, made me very eager to see other parts of the coast; and now I had a boat, I
thought of nothing but sailing round the island. (109) As illustrated by the canoe journey, Defoe shows
us that Crusoe s longing for knowledge, and for more than what God s Providence has provided him,
almost costs him his life. Crusoe s island, like the Garden of Eden, provides for all his needs. He has
complete dominion over this island and all of its inhabitants; yet, he still longs to know the other parts
of the island. Like Adam, after his search for knowledge, Crusoe sleeps on the hard cold ground being
quite spent with the Labor and Fatigue of the Voyage. (Note that before the fall of man, labor was not
a source of fatigue.) Here Defoe reminds us that God punishes man who is not

Drought In The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl drought was the worst in U.S. history that was around 1930. It was in the mid west
where it covered sixty percent of the country. Millions of people had to move to other parts because it
lasted four years. It was at its peak in 1934 according to National Climate Data Center . We already
have a lot of drought in California and west although one might say it is all of the U.S. With little rain
and high tempatures in the summers drys out the vegatation which become a hazard for fires. Global
warming might have some to do with the problem of drought. High populations need more water, with
more water being used, depletes resources of water supplies which causes drought also. People need to
become more aware of the use of the use of water, a lot of people take it for granite that there is plenty

Analysis Of The Novel Nervous Conditions
In the novel Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga explores the concepts of power and oppression.
Speaking up about oppression can liberate a person, so the people in charge do not want the oppressed
to speak up. In Nervous Conditions, males have much more dominance in life than females. Maiguru,
Nyasha, and Lucia all attempt to stand up for themselves against oppression, with little success.
Dangarembga develops the characters Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia in order to convey how speaking
out against oppression is necessary but not sufficient to gain power. Nyasha vocally resists when she
feels oppressed because she refuses to accept being controlled. However, as a child, she must defer to
her parents whether she likes it or not. Early in the novel, Maiguru questions if Nyasha should read
Lady Chatterly s Lover, a book that contains many Western themes and ideals, because that s not very
good...[she doesn t] want [her] to read books like that . Nyasha retorts, What s all the fuss about
anyway? It s only a book and I m only reading it (75). The controversy of Lady Chatterly s Lover
causes Maiguru to label it as not very good . Italics place extra emphasis on the words book and
reading , because these two words are associated with gaining knowledge, and therefore gaining
power. Maiguru does not want Nyasha to gain power in the form of ideas that might cause her to rebel
against her parents. Nyasha s confrontational attitude about the book reaffirms Maiguru s belief that it

E-Commerce And Tourism Case Study

Orphan Drug Act Research Paper
There have been 5,000 rare diseases that have been identified. The disease is considered rare in the
United States if less than 200,000 people have it. The pharmaceutical industry will not develop a cure
for the disease since it does not affect most of a population. For this reason, Congress passed the
Orphan Drug Act (ODA) in 1983.
Under the Ronald Reagan administration the Orphan Drug Act allows the federal government to help
out in the making of new drugs for these rare diseases. Incentives are given to the drug manufacturer
in order to intise them to find a cure or develop a drug that will help out. To find a cure can become
very expensive and time consuming for the drug companies. There are incentives given to the drug
manufacturers like grant funding, assistance in the drug development, seven year patent on the drug
post Food and Drug Administration approval, and so forth. In the end, the drug company has the better
end of the deal.
Some people do not fully understand what orphan drugs are. Orphan drugs are defined as drugs that

from the general public. Also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Undocumented Criminals
Another prominent concern regarding undocumented immigrants in general is that of their criminal
intentions and activities. The notion that illegal immigrants only migrate to the United States to
perpetrate misdemeanors is mostly false. Because the majority undocumented immigrants are
overwhelming uneducated, this leads some natives to associate crime and negativity with these people.
Yet according to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, 80% of undocumented immigrants
children say they are optimistic about working hard to succeed (Roman). This shows that regardless of
current education levels, the number of undocumented young people that are more inclined to working
in society outweigh those that would rather cause trouble. Every now and then, there may be news

undocumented students are minuscule in number compared to legal students, undocumented inmates
make up an insignificant portion of the total inmates. If illegal criminals are to blame for the American
incarceration crisis, why should the undocumented be the only priority when the vast majority of

Essay about Migration Policy and Domestic Party Politics
There is no one categorical answer to this main question if Europeanization in the field of Migration
Policy is limited because this field is dominated by domestic party politics or not. First of all we must
define how do we understand Europeanization in the field of Migration Policy. It could be understood
slight differently: (i) as an Europeanization in assimilation of rules for regular and irregular
immigrants; (ii) as an Europeanization in external dimension of European Union migration policy; (iii)
as an Europeanization in terms of free movement of working force within European Union, etc. These

creating a de facto European space of 27 different approaches to migration policy, allowing only for
minimum harmonization (Weinar, 2011, psl. 6 7). That clearly shows that migration is very sensitive
policy and is strongly influenced by political decisions within member states.
The main shortcoming of the European migration policy framework is its ambiguity and dispersed
focus. It addresses the common interest of the EU member states in some fields, while leaving out
those common interests in others (Weinar, 2011, psl. 7). So what makes some fields more attractive to
common interests?
Elspeth Guild states that at the heart of the EU there is and has always been an ambition and duty to
reconfigure the territory of the Member States in order to achieve economic aims (Guild, 2006, psl.

assume, that economic aims and not human rights are most important factors, we might argue, that
success in various Migration Policy agreements also depends on economic benefits. Putting this in a
simple terms, we might argue, that member states comply with Migration Policy goals if they can get
economical benefits from it. National states are always

Comparing Michelangelo And Bernini s David
One can see from the many depictions through paintings, sculptures, and architecture that the biblical
young David served as an heroic influence and inspiration for many artists. The creation of these
masterpieces, although constructed in different moments in time, individually display and bring out
great emotional responses from its viewers. When speaking on the statue of David, Michelangelo s
sculpture is world famous and most highly noted. However there is more than one David; one in
which was created more than a century later by the great Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
When looking at Michelangelo s depiction of David in comparison to Bernini s depiction of David,
one can see similar aspects as well as the demonstrated differences. The most obvious difference
would be between the eras in which these sculptures were constructed and the moment in time in
which both artist decided to present. Michelangelo s David, developed in the High Renaissance
period, is that of a brave, confident, and strong young man; preparing himself for the battle ahead of
him. His statue illustrates the human form at the greatest level of achievement, in which it is modeled
after Greek gods; the perfect version of human form. This form of David is elegant, composed,

March 2, 2001 and ended on March 16, 2001. A hammer and anvil attack, with 600 American and 400
Afghan troops, would rout, capture, or kill enemy forces. The operational timeline for a three day
battle projecting light combat took fourteen days to complete. During Operation Anaconda, Unity of
Command planning did not fully anticipate the need for additional forces, inducing a stall in
operations on the battlefield, and negating a timely victory.
Anticipation of Additional Forces
In keeping with the U.S. intention to keep the footprint in Afghanistan small and allow the Afghans to
do as much of the fighting as possible, TF DAGGER was directed to develop plans for an operation to
clear out the Shahi Kot valley (Fleri, Howard, Hukill, Searle, 2003, p. 8). Ground combat operations
in Afghanistan officially began on October 7, 2001 with small groups of Special Operations Forces
Soldiers training and fighting alongside Northern Alliance troops. These small bands harried Taliban
forces by calling directed air strikes and using bombers, cruise missiles, tactical fighters and AC 130
gunships. By December 22, allied forces were responsible for the liberation of Kabul and putting
Taliban forces on the defensive. By mid January 2002, reports came in of Taliban forces amassing
near the Shahikot Valley in eastern Afghanistan. By late January,

High School Sports Are Beneficial To Students
In Michigan alone almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.(Daniel
Gould Director for the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports) Sports are very important to students
and have a mostly good outcome for their grades and their personal life. We believe that high school
sports are beneficial to students, they are beneficial to their academic life, their social and personal
life. The first reason why high school sports are beneficial to students is because it teaches the
students life lessons and self confidence. Video 2, CBS News says that according to a recent study
from the University of Alberta shows that playing sports not only gives kids more confidence it also
gives them more rewarding friendships. The loneliest

Macomber Gender Roles
Nobody truly wants to live alone in their lives, and many pursue marriage to secure those means. The
problem is that the relationship requires more than simply two people coming together. Ultimately
they bring out the darker parts of their nature and the insecurities they hide within. The short story The
Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber by Ernest Hemingway depicts the struggles between people
caused by their weaknesses, yet are built upon the inner workings of gender roles, and how losing
their fears could have let them break away from their cycle. The story starts with the wife, Margot
Macomber, trying to join the men, Francis and Wilson, in conversation but they both quickly kick her
from her wants in the discussion. She leaves in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

enough to know that she won t be mistreated without at least standing up for herself. The story seems
to make it clear that American Females have cruelty and that is why men take a domineering role to
ensure they remain respectful . Wilson represents this sort of manly and domineering personality. He

Cheer Tryouts
It s one day until cheer tryouts. For some reason I was thinking about it during the middle of math

what number was that again? I said. Number three, Trista. My neighbor answered me, so I fumbled

What Is The Similarities Between Easter 1916 And An Irish...
The effects of war as a theme in W.B.Yeats s Easter 1916 and An Irish Airman Foresees His Death
Easter 1916 and An Irishman Foresees His Death are poems which were written by William Butler
Yeats. Easter 1916 was written to relive the Easter Rising, an event which occurred in Ireland during
Easter in the year 1916 to confirm its independence and national identity from British. An Irishman
Foresees His Death was written as a tribute to Major Robert Gregory who had died while fighting for
his country during World War I. Although both the poems focuses on war yet the perception viewed on
war is different. Therefore, both of these poems will be compared with the consequences of war as the
theme of the poem and based on the patriotic emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the perception of war in Easter 1916 it was a patriotic and collective force especially fighting for
their nation. However, in An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, the Irishman though he was patriotic he
makes war sound as though they had to go out of compulsion or was forced to go. Moreover the
airman flew in the sky not only to fight but also to fulfill his desire. Those that I fight I do not hate,
Those that I guard I do not love (Yeats, 1918). There is deep irony in this statement because Yeats says
that those people who fight for his country and people are the courageous man whom the poet
worships and he hates those people who always try to rule and make other people to follow them. This
statement signifies Yeats hatred towards British country that conquered and ruled Ireland. Although
they had positive thoughts towards Germany they were insisted to revolt against by the British. In
Easter 1916, British colonized Ireland and harsh anti Catholic law were passed upon Irish people, that
led to increase in Irish Nationalism and it let to revolt in. So in this context, Yeats is talking about the
British for being too offensive and it makes the people wonder how many Irish people suffered and
had been killed during World War I. Around thirty five thousand Irish died in the First World War
among one hundred forty

Analysis Of The Catalan Architect, Antoni Gaudi
Originality is returning to the origin, is one of the most famous and often repeated phrase of the
Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was a devout religious man who believed that nature was the
origin and he started encouraging his belief of returning to the primitive basics. He had a great regard
for nature as a creation of God and most of his works were informed by an obsessive religious
spiritualism, a strong relationship with nature and heavy interest in ecology with an acutely personal
impression of design. Hif religious belief and architecture became increasingly intertwined, while he
studied organic and anarchic forms of geometry that were derived from nature, seeking a way to give
definition to these forms in his architectural designs. His interest and study of nature informed
fantastic organic arrangement of forms in one of his famous residential buildings, Casa Mila, and its
details. As in all Gaudi s later works, his models and studies made on the site, rather than drawings,
had been the key designing method for Casa Mila. He understood the abundant idea of the natural
world and expressed it with curved forms, never in straight lines. He also noticed that natural
construction tended to require ponderous materials such as stone and wrought iron, mimicking the
appearances of muscle, ribs and bone of living organisms. With all these organic models supporting
his premises, Gaudi based the design of Casa Mila on a simple religious perception; Considering that

and Authority of Scripture Of all the debates that have developed in the Christian world over the
centuries, the debate in regards to the infallibility and authority of scripture looms at the top of the list.
This is not simply a trivial matter of belief, but this is a key issue; what an individual believes in this

If the problem is not the control and is lying in the performance of the trucks itself he should consider
selling truck 3 and buy a new truck that will perform and earn plus minus the income of truck 2.
In conclusion truck 3 is the newest truck, 1 year and 9 months old, but it has the lowest income earned
per round trip and a high fuel and maintenance cost.
Therefore truck 3 is the least profitable of the three trucks.
Question 5
What advice would you give Jimmy so that he can maintain effective control over his trucks in the
future?
Answer
For Jimmy to maintain effective control over his trucks the following is advised:
His trucks need to be maintained regular and on time in order to extend its lifespan and to ensure
effective use of the trucks in order to generate maximum profit.
He must check the millage travelled on each round trip
Jimmy must install tracking devices on each truck to keep track of where the truck is at all times.
The tracking device will help to make sure that the trucks are not misused or abused by the drivers.
The tracking device will also give control over the number of hours of each round trip.
He must make sure that the trucks are properly insured against theft, accidents etc.
Jimmy must make sure that there are proper recording of each truck:

The Pros And Cons Of Women
Working outside of the home was rare for women at a time and was wrong if it was done. Women that
did work outside of the home were not taken seriously being seen as less intelligent than men and less
able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were physically and intellectually inferior so women
weren t usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4 5). Women were told if they worked, they
would be taking jobs away from men that needed to support their families, but in reality most women
who worked did so to support their families as well (Harrington 17 18). The unemployment rates
surpassed men s 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s (Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real
ambition to work (Harrington 16). Though it wasn t typical for a women to work, it was said the poor
and single women should work until they were married (Chafe 21). Even then it was a stretch for a
woman to work considering single women were seen as prey in the workplace (Nies 15). The usual
jobs women were stuck into were teachers, nurses, and secretaries (Kesselman 31). Even if qualified,
women couldn t work high level federal jobs (Nies 46). A lot of the time, women wouldn t even
receive credit for the jobs they did (Povich 78). Not only were women stuck in jobs they didn t enjoy,
but they were also paid less and were not provided with health or retirement benefits (Harrington 18).
They were being denied the right to show potential in what they did and felt restricted because of it

Rhetorical Analysis Of Charlot s Speech
The high taxes and cost of living make it very difficult for middle class Americans to get by and the
government continues to take, and take, and take leaving some families with nothing, creating hostile
feelings such as frustration and anger among citizens. During American history, there has always been
some form of greed from the government, so much at times causing many wars and destruction.
Slemhakkah, known as Charlot, who was the Chief of the Kalispel band of Flathead Indians, felt the
same frustration and anger toward the government in 1876, when the federal government required that
Montana Indians residing on reservations pay taxes. Charlot was angry with the white people s way,
the greed, as well as the unfair and unjust destruction that the white man brought upon the land. He
expressed his views in a powerful speech titled, He has filled graves with our bones, that was
published on the Western Frontier. Charlot speaks to his people, with a tone of anger and worry. The
stance that he took to inform his people and express the worries he had, is very powerful, and
justifiable. He was a leader, respected among his people, stayed true as his word and had a sincerity
within ethos, pathos, logos appeals, throughout his speech. At the very beginning of Charlot s speech,
he starts with a presence of ethos, Yes, my people, the white man wants us to pay him. He comes in
his intent and says we must pay him pay him for our own for the things we have from our God and our

Sphinx Of Giza Essay
A lot of people become amazed when they see how majestic the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx are.
Have people ever thought of how or why those huge monuments were built? These structures, which
had an important role in history, now become a great form of tourism for Egypt. There are a lot of
mysteries regarding the pyramids and the Sphinx, and many humans may not understand some of
these things. Why is the peak of the Pyramid of Giza not completed? Or why isn t Khufu s body in his
burial chamber? Not all of those questions have a correct answer. The Great Sphinx and the pyramids
of Egypt have existed since thousands of years ago and were built by Ancient Egyptian Kings mostly
to honor and symbolize themselves. Or do others believe someone else built them and for another
reason? The Great Sphinx of Giza, believed to be a national symbol of Egypt, was built to honor and
symbolize Egypt s King during those times. It was built in the Old Kingdom near Cairo in Egypt,
during King Khafre s reign. The people believe that the Sphinx s head contains their King s face,
Khafre s. Still other theories suggest that King Khufu might have been the one to build the Sphinx
with his face on its head. This fierce looking creature is really a combination of the head of a woman
and a lion s body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Australopithecus Afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus...
The phylogeny started off with Proconsul heseloni as the common ancestor to Sivapithecus indicus,
Australopithecus afarensis, and Australopithecus Africanus. The reasoning for this was from the
approximated age of Proconsul heseloni of 23 million years ago. This places Sivapithecus indicus
roughly 15 million years after, suggesting that Sivapithecus indicus directly evolved from Proconsul
heseloni.
From Proconsul heseloni, it was decided that three species evolved from it. These species included A.
A. afarensis, A. africanus and Sivapithecus indicus. Sivapithecus indicus was branched off the early
human evolutionary line as the characteristics from the dentation and skull characteristics differed

This difference can be used to infer that they lived in different areas of the world as it can be assumed
that the diets of the two were unalike, explaining the dissimilarity of the canine size. As it is inferred
that the two species lived in different regions of the world, it can be assumed that they co existed at
the same time period.
Homo habilis followed A. africanus indicating that A. africanus was a direct ancestor of H. habilis.
The reasoning for this included the brain weight and body weight of the H. habilis slightly increased
from that of A. africanus. As there was a general increase the overall brain to body weight ratio,
indicating that there was an increase in the overall body weight of the two.
Homo erectus was branched off after H. habilis as the justification for this was from the muzzle angles
of the different species. As H. erectus had a muzzle angle of 107° it was decided that it was reasonable
to assume that H. erectus evolved from H. habilis. However, in the overall positioning of the
phylogeny, it was placed on a side branch off H. habilis. This reasoning for this was that if H. erectus
was placed on the main evolutionary line to evolve from H. ergaster, the muzzle angles from H.
ergaster, H. erectus, and Homo neaderthalensis would increase then decrease. It would not be logical
to place H. erectus on the main evolutionary line. Further justification that H. erectus was not a direct
ancestor

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Photovoltaic Basics
Photovoltaic basics
The sun is the main source of energy on earth, providing the planet with radiant energy which is
transformed once it reaches every substance on the planet into a different kind of energy, making the
wind blow, the seas flow and all atoms move. The energy in the Wind and sea have been used for
centuries and nowadays thanks to the photovoltaic effect, a part of this vast energy can be harnessed
and directly transformed into a more usable way of energy, electricity.
The photovoltaic effect can be vaguely explained as the creation of electric potential and current once
light is absorbed in a semiconductor material. A semiconductor material, can be doped with other
elements in order to force the creation of a certain quantity of free carriers, electrons in n type and
holes in p type semiconductors. When put together, this two differently doped materials form the PN
junction where, through the diffusion of carriers, (i.e. electrons diffuse to the p type semiconductor
and holes to the n type), an area called depletion zone is generated. Then, absorption of a photons in a
semiconductor, generates more electron hole pairs increasing the potential in the device and by
connecting the separated regions by means of a conductor, the free carriers can flow through a circuit

Importance Of A Lightbulb Moment
A lightbulb moment. My writing process has officially kicked off with the lightbulb moment. This is
the moment when the first line of my paper pops in my head or I have a sense of direction in where
the paper is headed. I can depend on the fact that this will not happen by staring at a blinking cursor
on a blank page. Some of my better lightbulb moments have been on the bus heading home or the
second I get into bed to go to sleep that is why my mom always taught me to keep post its and a pen in
my nightstand! I usually like to give myself at least a couple days to write my paper, edit the paper,
and to make sure I have an effective mic drop at the end, as my English teacher last year said.
However, seeing as I am starting this paper the night before it is due, I should also mention that I have
no problem starting last minute if I know what I am going to say and essentially have the framework
of a paper in my head. The lightbulb moment is the hardest to control, but a critical part to my writing
process.
The setting in which I write my paper is the easiest to control, and also a critical part to my writing
process. I find that the setting changes with each type of paper. I write at my desk in my room for the
average paper, especially if I am feeling confident in how the paper is going so far. I can play music in
the background and am two floors up from the kitchen and the family room, thereby avoiding
distractions. If it is a paper that is intimidating by name, like my

Service Learning Should NOT be Mandatory For College...
Service learning is the name for forcing college students to do volunteer work as part of their college
careers. The hope is that this volunteer work will give students a better sense of civic duty, and thus,
be a worthy addition to college curriculums. However, this idea relies on the faulty premise that if one
is forced to volunteer that one will derive the same benefits as someone who does it out of their own
desire to help. Mandatory service learning will not have the desired effect, and should not be forced
upon students.
It is perhaps intuitive to think that by making students help others there will be a net positive; there
could be no downside to volunteering time and effort to help the community. However, a more

However, to a company their time is money. If a company is forced to give its time and resources to
volunteer, it might as well give money instead. That money, in the form of taxes, is already paid by
both companies and individuals to the government. That money, in turn, should be used to help
communities when needed. If communities need extra help, the answer is increasing taxes to provide
that extra help. Forcing college students to provide that help directly ignores the efficiencies gained
from specialization. A college student, who isn t even studying whatever field is needed, would be
able to help more by working in their actual field for money, and then giving that money to a
specialist, via the government, to provide the direct help. The only problem with that arrangement is
that it doesn t provide the positive feelings that directly helping would. However, gaining a positive
sense of accomplishment at the expense of providing less efficient help is a purely selfish motivation.
In the case of labor being needed that almost anyone could do, there is an even greater gain in having
the public at large finance the work instead of doing it directly. Instead of having a college student
learn about basic construction, which he will likely never use again in his career, wouldn t it make
more sense to pay someone local to the community to do the work instead? That way, not only is the
work done, but

Comparision Of Microscale Masses Of Hydrogen And Oxygen
Abstract
In this experiment, microscale quantities of hydrogen and oxygen were generated to test their
explosive nature both separately and in mixtures of various proportions in order to identify the mixture
with the most explosive energy, via a pop test that measured relative loudness, thus determining the
optimal ratio for their combustion reaction to give water, and determine a mole ratio for the reaction in
a balanced equation. Each gas mixture was then tested for power as fuel through the launching of a
micro mole rocket. The gases were produced via two separate generators which isolated a chemical
reaction to either produce oxygen or hydrogen gas, the reactions included the single replacement
reaction reaction of zinc and hydrochloric acid to generate hydrogen gas, and the yeast catalyzed
decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to generate oxygen gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gas collection bulbs were filled with different proportions of each gas, proportional to the number of
moles of gas present, and were tested for relative loudness, which represented power/ explosive
energy via a pop test in which a match was struck near the bulb. The loudness was measured via a
scale in which the most explosive mixture was given a ten and the least explosive given a zero. The
ratios were tested for their ability to launch the bulb a distance during a rocket launch in which the
bulb rocket was placed on a launch pad and ignited by a piezo sparker. Both dependent variables,
distance and loudness represented overall explosion energy and were used to indicate which of the
ratios represented the optimum ratio of hydrogen and oxygen to give water in a combustion reaction.
To be considered valid, the amount of error in each data point must have fallen into the range of
average deviation of the measurements. Data was error prone for relative loudness was measured

The Dangers Of Incest Or Consanguineous Relationships
One may wonder what he or she would do with $2,000 to $500,000. However, some do not take into
consideration that that much money could be given to you as a fine if you marry someone to whom
you are related to. Incest is a form of sexual intercourse between two or more people one is related to.
Incest relationships or marriages can occur in two different ways ( Statutory Compilation Regarding
Incest Statutes. ). Incest can happen in a consanguineous relationship or from people who are related
by affinity. In some cases, incetuous relationships also may not be in the person s intent (Webster).
The laws on incestuous marriages are mainly in play because of the dangers of having children. Incest
can be a relationship known as consanguineous relationships. Consanguineous relationships are
people who are blood family ( Incests ). In this type of incestuous relationship, the information

Study on Administration Errors for Woodcock-Johnson III...
This study examined administration and scoring errors made by graduate students when administering
the Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities (WJ III COG). In the past studies have been
conducted on graduate student errors made on other assessment of cognitive abilities, such as the
Wechsler Scales. This study s findings were similar to previous studies. The study participants
consisted of 36 graduate students who attended a school psychology program at a metropolitan
university. There were 31 females and 5 males, of which there were 30 Caucasian, 4 Latino, 1 Asian
and 1 African American. All of the students were first year students, enrolled in cognitive assessment
courses taught by the same professor (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). All students were required to administer
the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to volunteers. The first
administration for each student was not considered for the study, which produced 108 testing
administrations. These administrations and scores were then examined by advanced level graduate

Stop Body Dissatisfaction Is Not A New Discovery
Stop Body Dissatisfaction Body dissatisfaction is not a new discovery. Yet, nothing is done to
counteract the emotional damages done to people, Approximately 91% of women are unhappy with
their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Unfortunately, only 5% of women
naturally possess the body type often portrayed by Americans in the media (11 Facts 1). The media
will continue to keep the same body style in their magazines and movie. This poses a very important
problem, how can people who deal with kids teach them that appearances are not as important as what
is in their brains? Educators and parents need to know how to help kids cope with their emotional
issues and teach them what is really important. Parents should teach kids strong morals and help them
avoid overexposure to the media while educators should teach kids how to live a healthy lifestyle. The
best way to solve a problem is to know exactly what the issue is. So what is body image? Body image
is, How individuals feel about their physical appearances (Brown University 1). Body image can be
affected by more than one media outlet. These outlets include the traditional media like magazines and
TV shows. However, new outlets have been introduced like social media, this media can be so
damaging because it is easily accessible to all types of people from ranging ages.
This issues is not just a call for attention, body image can cause individuals to suffer from emotional
stress that can

Ancient Egyptian Culture and Its Influence on Poetry Essay
Cultured and socially structured, Ancient Egypt was a civilization highly advanced for its time. The
Nile River provided the gift of fresh water allowing the surrounding land to be settled. Its yearly
predictable flooding created fertile soil for farming. This was the perfect environment in which
Egyptian society would prosper. Egypt was equipped with all the amenities of a modern society
including people who married, had children, practiced religion, and even had festivals with food, beer,
music and dancing. All that is known about ancient Egypt is a result of the hieroglyphic carvings of
the Great Pyramid walls and on tombs of dead. Originally from the Book of The Dead, The Chapter
Of Changing Into Ptah was and remains a significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stanza contains a total of nineteen lines and is composed of three common literary themes,
change, culture and religion. The chapter is about the speaker changing into Ptah who is the lord of
life, he conceived the elements of the universe with his heart and brought them into being with his
tongue (Rothenberg 524). Activities such as dancing, music and various religious festivals or
gatherings were common sources of entertainment. Especially crucial to the culture and society of
ancient Egypt was beer, also known as the drink of Egypt. All social classes were allowed to consume
beer, man or woman. Bread was also of cultural importance because it was one of the main
components of the ancient diet and often was presented in the hieroglyphics next to beer. In lines one
and two I eat bread / I drink ale.(1 2) , the reader becomes aware of the significance of beer and bread
within this culture. At the end of the first stanza the reader knows that a man is speaking of his
attendance at the festival of a Great God. The theme of power begins to prevail; All that is
abominable, all that is abominable I will not eat. / Shit is abominable, I will not eat it. / All that is
abominable to my Ka (double personality) will not enter my body.(7 9) extreme emphasis on the fact
that nothing inferior will be consumed by him is presented trough anaphora. The combination of
refusing to eat anything abominable and the statements, I will live on what the Gods

Reflection Of My Life Essay
One s dream and aspirations to supersede in life must be stronger and greater than limitations set forth
by others. The experience that were bestowed to me during my short life has elevated me to the
woman I am today. Please walk with me as I give you the opportunity to see the world from my eyes:
To be the person that I am now, I had to reflect and accept accountability of my past actions. My past
is one that many would love to erase from their memory, a past, which remained dormant, until I
found myself. The steps involved in regaining myself encompassed letting go of my anger and self
pity. I had to look within myself and see my self s worth, which lead to my belief that I ran away to
college to forget my past. During the years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Put education first and everything else will fall into place. I didn t realize how true these words were,
until I came face to face with my past.
My last year in college, changed the whole course of my life. Near the end of my junior year, I
befriended a guy, who never would become my boyfriend. I knew he was infatuated with me, so I lead
him on. He ended up stalking me and making several death threats. I never understood the phrase in
fear of your life , until then. Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) got involved but there wasn t much
they could do except file a police report and wait. This was a very frightening time in my life and
consequently I became very disconnected with life. I never provided TPD with my stalker s name, in
fear that he would kill me if I did. I moved to a different apartment complex across town, thinking that
it would make all my problems go away. He ended up finding me and making more serious death
threats against me and my family if I didn t leave Tallahassee.
I had a mental breakdown after the last death threat and I left Florida State University my senior year,
I went back home to deal with my traumatic ordeal. I quickly transferred to Florida International
University and graduated the following year with my graduating class at Florida State. Graduation day
should have been one of the happiest days of my life, but instead I was terrified

Mental Change In Greasy Lake By T. Coraghessan Boyle
Written in 1985, author T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake is a short story retelling a catalyst
incidence that led to a mental change in a group of rebellious youths. The most critical scene where
this change is most apparent surfaces after the bad guys left and the narrator was left plunged in the
muddy river, contemplating his life and that of the corpse beside him. Through this short but intense
story, Boyle has successfully integrated the elements of characterisation and setting to vividly
illustrate the realization about life for the teenagers. The first to be exploited was how characterisation
of the narrator and his friends in the scene has contributed to the theme of changing. The clear tactile
imageries in the paragraph such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The instance of morning coming when the sky turned from black to cobalt and the trees separate[d]
themselves from the shadows suggests a new beginning just as the teenagers trudged out from the
shadows of the lake their wrongdoings. Their mishaps are no longer noticeable, lying on the field as if
from a vanished civilization . Their desert from badness have been implied in this setting as a
naturally right thing, like nature . Moreover, the sound of bird chirping, the sight of dew on leaves,
and the smell of sun firing buds and opening blossoms , are all symbolisms of a brand new promising
start, an opportunity to rid the old selves and change for the new, like buds and blossoms and morning
light breaking the dark. Although the vestige of the past is still vaguely there, the broken glass and
garbage , the mud and shattered glass , the narrator and his friends have forgiven their errors and
improved upon their view of life, bending and decided their future that was no more than five feet
from the open door the keys . No greater symbolism can be expressed when the narrator mentioned
the glinting keys like jewels in the first tapering shaft of sunlight . These are the concluding sign that
indicated the rightful directions that the youths have taken and their concluded resolve to abstain from
all badness from

Voltaire s Use Of Satire In Candide
Mr. Boni chose this book for our class in order to provide us with a first hand example of the views of
the Enlightenment period philosopher, Voltaire. Throughout Candide, Voltaire s well known satire, we
are exposed to his sharp witted criticisms of the church, nobility, religion, and philosophy. Using
misfortune as well as comic relief, Candide, holds the interest of its readers while educating them in
Enlightened views. For the use of our current studies, this novel is a brilliant bridge between the witty
words of one man s views of the world and the history in which it is surrounded. It represents the
author s unabridged view on mankind s lack of necessary development as a result of the
Enlightenment, staying true to his aversions of religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire satirizes numerous social norms of his time using recurring themes throughout the novel.
With his every present sardonic writing, Voltaire addresses issues regarding religion, social structure,
women s rights, and unrelenting optimism. He ridicules religion for its corruption and intolerance. No
religion went unscathed as Voltaire took shots at many of the main sects of religion including
Protestantism, Catholicism, and Anabaptism. He also took shots at elitist nobility and the unfair
women s rights of the time, using irony to show the uselessness of the unjust systems and privileges
(or lack thereof). In addition, Voltaire made light work of philosophical optimism, an idea highly
popularized by German theorist Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibnitz. It was thought that God created a
perfect world and therefore, God would not cause anything to happen if not for a greater outcome.
Voltaire, an atheist in his own right, thought this absurd and wished to educate his readers of this

  • 2. War Takes Over Everything in Walt Whitman’s Poem, Drum Taps The overall theme in Walt Whitman s Drum Taps is about the way war consumes everything and monopolizes every facet of life; particularly the land the war is fought on. When analyzing the poem, the first stanza talks about the movement of war from the farms, the second stanza talks about the progression of war from the farm to the city. In stanza three this journey continues through the battlefield, through the halls of power and finally into the homes, moving from the public to private spheres of life. Throughout the entire poem there is an emphasized pulse of drums that beats within the lines. This pulse of drums resonates throughout the entire poem and prompts me to wonder how Whitman intended to utilize this mechanism. Furthermore, I want to uncover if the sounds of these drums is symbolic in some way, and if they are, then I wonder if this symbolism represents a positive view or negative view on war. My first interpretation is that these drums represent Whitman s negative perspective on war. I feel that the use of the pulse of drums throughout the poem acts as a mechanism that Whitman uses in order to discourage war. I feel that these sounds are symbolic of the dire news at the time that consisted of the battles. It seems that Whitman is addressing this pulse of drums in attempt to highlight the effect this war will have on the country. In this poem, I see the clear cry for battle as a cry by someone who is naïve and does not yet know what the ultimate cost of war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ancient Greek Theater Have you ever just wanted to kill your parents? Perhaps they are not letting you order a seventh slice of cheese pizza at Chuck E. Cheese s, or not letting you hang out with that dreamy hunk Bryan on Saturday. For Oedipus, killing his parents was not something petty he threatened when he got too worked up, but rather his fate. This suspenseful and masterful plot, conceived by the legendary playwright Sophocles, was one of the many groundbreaking works to come out of fifth century BC Greece. Works of ancient Greek theater, particularly Oedipus the King, embodied the spirit of innovation that fifth century BC Athens was known for. The fifth century BC in Athens, aptly known as the Golden Age, was a time of great achievements in art and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a long time, only one actor was used, and often times the play s author himself would perform. However, probably due to demand on a single actor s physique and voice, two actors were introduced. Sophocles finally introduced a third actor, but three was the most Greek plays ever employed (Ley 25). Reminiscent of the dithyrambs from which they originated, Greek plays included a chorus of anywhere from twelve to twenty four members who would provide poetic interludes and narrations (Ley 22). Theatric spectacle in Greece was not an everyday commodity. In fact, plays were only performed once a year, at the Dionysia (Knox xx). For each of three days, sunrise to sunset, playgoers would sit through three tragedies, a more lighthearted and whimsical satyr play, and a comedy. The tragedies and the satyr play of the day would all be by the same poet, while the comedy was by a different playwright (Knox xx). At the conclusion of the festival, awards would be given to the tragedians by a panel of judges. Historians have no record on whether or not one of Simon Cowell s early ancestors was on the panel. Said to have often been awarded first prize, sometimes second, but never third in the Dionysia, Sophocles is one of the most renowned and influential playwrights of not only his time, but of all time (Ley 35). • 4. Music Censorship is Not Needed Essay Music Censorship is Not Needed Marilyn Manson. Eminem. Limp Bizkit. Rammstein. All of these musical artists have been under fire in the past few years by government officials, the media, and activist groups. Supposedly, their music conveys too violent of a message. The sounds and words these artists have so carefully crafted have been targeted as the cause for violent acts, especially by young people. For example, Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold idolized German industrial bands such as Rammstein and KMFDM, as well as American shock rocker, Marilyn Manson. The public has been quick to blame these musicians for violence in the United States. People are calling for government regulations in the form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government has taken some appropriate steps in making the public aware of the content of music albums. Very few critics can deny that parental advisory labels are beneficial. Although adults and children frequently ignore them, at least they make consumers aware of any potentially offensive content. Parents concerned about extremely violent or offensive music can outright refuse to buy the CD in question. Alternatively, parents can research and examine the content. However, stores such as WalMart and K Mart have been known to ask artists to redesign their album covers or to release an edited version of an album, simply because the stores feel a CD is potentially offensive. This practice, however, goes a step too far. No store owner can please all customers. Either sell the CD with the appropriate warning, or choose not to stock it. Additionally, stores that are so worried about sales figures might consider the fact that such adult oriented material may attract a larger, slightly older consumer base, one which would be willing to spend more money on other products. One argument that is continually pulled into this debate is the First Amendment. According to the United States Constitution, everyone is entitled to the right to free speech, which is a sacred American belief. By submitting to censorship, artists are essentially ... • 6. The Importance Of Cultural Awareness In Saudi Arabia Cultural awareness starts with the understanding of the country in general, its people, and events, which have taken place there. Culture is a complex concept, defined by the combination of values, customs, and beliefs of the society, which characterize different groups of the community and guides their behavior. Culture applies to each person, who is considered as a member of a group, who live in the particular society (Eliot, 2014). Cultural awareness is the understanding of the traditions of another culture and the ability to accept them (Clervaud, 2016). Living in the contemporary world, where globalization has occupied many spheres of human life, cultural awareness is a significant part of the successful cooperation. Saudi Arabia is a country with a specific culture, and its influence all over the world has increased significantly due to oil deposits and a considerable jump in economic development (Malachova, 2012). Even though religion is one of the central spheres in Saudi Arabia, cultural awareness of this country can be achieved by understanding the particular characteristics of a region, its geography and military features, human relations and behavior. Since culture is explained through the understanding of the region through studying its values and traditions, it possesses some particular characteristics. Thus, it is possible to learn any culture; one can easily share culture with others (Eliot, 2014). Culture integrates into a person and its activities. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of the women being recruited are those who share the ideology that Muslim s are being systematically oppressed. Then there is the fascination of an Arabian Knights tale of being married to a jihadi warrior; add to this, this fantasy of a worldly romance, being a devout wife and mother is appealing to idealistic young girls who thirst for adventure. Those who are pariahs in Western society find this change appealing; thus, the idea of creating and living in a new society, a utopia, is a dream come true for many of these young women/girls. However, as with most organizations, there is a dark side, even darker than Fifty Shades of Grey. These women and young girls eventually come to realize that they are no more than sex and reproductive slaves. The brutal reality of this existence has left a trail of broken hearts among the relatives of these young women/girls in their native countries. • 8. Lorely Rodriguez Me Essay Me. It s a cryptic name for an album, a word that can mean so much and so little, and for Lorely Rodriguez s Empress Of project, it s a fitting title. Me is interesting lyrically, and even more so musically it s not exactly an exploration of the self as much as it is an inhabitation. That is, Rodriguez uses her unique identity and experiences to craft balanced, adaptable songs that can be perceived as intellectual or physical art, as food for thought or as primal messages. Me is such a well rounded and confident record, yet there is a sense of ricketiness to it, as if it has no right to reach this high into the stratosphere; there s very little wrong with it, though. With Me, Rodriguez has crafted a formidable debut album: it s a self assured work that manages to be both experimental and accessible, an album that never fails to please, whether you re embroiled in thought or swept onto the dancefloor. Balance is a theme throughout the record; experimental and established pop methods run hand in hand, as do the eclectically airy instrumentals with Rodriguez s simply delivered vocals. • 11. The Components Of Social Work The main element that drew me to the profession of social work was the diverse opportunities available. Social work is a very flexible field that consists of many different components such as family and child welfare, poverty and inequality, and substance abuse/ addiction. The main component of social work that interests me is working with people who have disabilities, mental and/or physical. According to our textbook about 11.3% of social workers with bachelor s work in this field (Cox, Tice, Long, 2016, pg. 17). I discovered that I was interested in this component of social work after a traumatic experience that left me with a disability. Component of Social Work A disability is usually defined as a decline in function that can either be temporary or permanent. There are two main groupings of disabilities; categorial and functional. Categorial disabilities include mental illnesses and sensory damage which often leads to developmental delays. In comparison, functional disabilities cause limitations during physical activity. Individuals can also suffer from more than one disability which is known as a co occurring disability (Cox et al., 2016, pg. 159). Social workers often view disabilities in three types; developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and mental disabilities. A developmental disability is a long term disability that is typically diagnosed before age 22. These disabilities include Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome (Cox et al., 2016, pg. ... • 12. Religion Vs. Self-interest in Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel... This paper is an attempt to examine the seeming opposition of religion vs. self interest with respect to the character of Robinson Crusoe. I will venture to demonstrate that in the novel, Defoe illustrates the contradictions with which Crusoe must contend as he strives to please God while ensuring his own survival in the world. In part, I will endeavor to show that a distorted sense of Puritanism as well as the existing colonial mindset exacerbated this opposition, and resulted in what I propose to be Defoe s (possibly retroactive) imposition of a religious justification for Crusoe s actions. Crusoe s journey in the canoe exemplifies the reality of his life in that, although he longs to please and obey God, he must also contend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this instance, therefore, it is shown that the ideal relationship with God contradicts his instinct. In a way, the journey in the canoe in itself contradicts the idea of providence. The purpose of the journey for Crusoe was to obtain more knowledge. Prior to this journey, however, he states Thus I liv d mighty comfortably, my mind being entirely composed by resigning to the will of God, and throwing myself wholly upon the disposal of his Providence. (108) Very shortly after this declaration of his submission to Providence, when referring to his exploration of the island on foot, Crusoe says that the discoveries I made in that little journey, made me very eager to see other parts of the coast; and now I had a boat, I thought of nothing but sailing round the island. (109) As illustrated by the canoe journey, Defoe shows us that Crusoe s longing for knowledge, and for more than what God s Providence has provided him, almost costs him his life. Crusoe s island, like the Garden of Eden, provides for all his needs. He has complete dominion over this island and all of its inhabitants; yet, he still longs to know the other parts of the island. Like Adam, after his search for knowledge, Crusoe sleeps on the hard cold ground being quite spent with the Labor and Fatigue of the Voyage. • 14. Analysis Of The Novel Nervous Conditions In the novel Nervous Conditions, Tsitsi Dangarembga explores the concepts of power and oppression. Speaking up about oppression can liberate a person, so the people in charge do not want the oppressed to speak up. In Nervous Conditions, males have much more dominance in life than females. Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia all attempt to stand up for themselves against oppression, with little success. Dangarembga develops the characters Maiguru, Nyasha, and Lucia in order to convey how speaking out against oppression is necessary but not sufficient to gain power. Nyasha vocally resists when she feels oppressed because she refuses to accept being controlled. However, as a child, she must defer to her parents whether she likes it or not. Early in the novel, Maiguru questions if Nyasha should read Lady Chatterly s Lover, a book that contains many Western themes and ideals, because that s not very good...[she doesn t] want [her] to read books like that . Nyasha retorts, What s all the fuss about anyway? It s only a book and I m only reading it (75). The controversy of Lady Chatterly s Lover causes Maiguru to label it as not very good . Italics place extra emphasis on the words book and reading , because these two words are associated with gaining knowledge, and therefore gaining power. • 16. Orphan Drug Act Research Paper There have been 5,000 rare diseases that have been identified. The disease is considered rare in the United States if less than 200,000 people have it. The pharmaceutical industry will not develop a cure for the disease since it does not affect most of a population. For this reason, Congress passed the Orphan Drug Act (ODA) in 1983. Under the Ronald Reagan administration the Orphan Drug Act allows the federal government to help out in the making of new drugs for these rare diseases. Incentives are given to the drug manufacturer in order to intise them to find a cure or develop a drug that will help out. To find a cure can become very expensive and time consuming for the drug companies. There are incentives given to the drug manufacturers like grant funding, assistance in the drug development, seven year patent on the drug post Food and Drug Administration approval, and so forth. In the end, the drug company has the better end of the deal. Some people do not fully understand what orphan drugs are. Orphan drugs are defined as drugs that have not been developed yet because the need for that drug to be made is not in that of high demand from the general public. Also, ... The notion that illegal immigrants only migrate to the United States to perpetrate misdemeanors is mostly false. Because the majority undocumented immigrants are overwhelming uneducated, this leads some natives to associate crime and negativity with these people. Yet according to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, 80% of undocumented immigrants children say they are optimistic about working hard to succeed (Roman). Just like how undocumented students are minuscule in number compared to legal students, undocumented inmates make up an insignificant portion of the total inmates. If illegal criminals are to blame for the American incarceration crisis, why should the undocumented be the only priority when the vast majority of inmates are actually natives? • 18. Essay about Migration Policy and Domestic Party Politics There is no one categorical answer to this main question if Europeanization in the field of Migration Policy is limited because this field is dominated by domestic party politics or not. First of all we must define how do we understand Europeanization in the field of Migration Policy. It could be understood slight differently: (i) as an Europeanization in assimilation of rules for regular and irregular immigrants; (ii) as an Europeanization in external dimension of European Union migration policy; (iii) as an Europeanization in terms of free movement of working force within European Union, etc. These cases might have very different national interests within member states. The EU member states have certainly been wary of ceding too much of powers up to the EU, creating a de facto European space of 27 different approaches to migration policy, allowing only for minimum harmonization (Weinar, 2011, psl. 6 7). That clearly shows that migration is very sensitive policy and is strongly influenced by political decisions within member states. The main shortcoming of the European migration policy framework is its ambiguity and dispersed focus. It addresses the common interest of the EU member states in some fields, while leaving out those common interests in others (Weinar, 2011, psl. 7). So what makes some fields more attractive to common interests? Elspeth Guild states that at the heart of the EU there is and has always been an ambition and duty to reconfigure the territory of the Member States in order to achieve economic aims (Guild, 2006, psl. 631). Human rights were not part of the original schema of the EU (Guild, 2006, psl. 632). So if we assume, that economic aims and not human rights are most important factors, we might argue, that success in various Migration Policy agreements also depends on economic benefits. Putting this in a simple terms, we might argue, that member states comply with Migration Policy goals if they can get economical benefits from it. National states are always ... Comparing Michelangelo And Bernini s David One can see from the many depictions through paintings, sculptures, and architecture that the biblical young David served as an heroic influence and inspiration for many artists. The creation of these masterpieces, although constructed in different moments in time, individually display and bring out great emotional responses from its viewers. When speaking on the statue of David, Michelangelo s sculpture is world famous and most highly noted. However there is more than one David; one in which was created more than a century later by the great Gian Lorenzo Bernini. When looking at Michelangelo s depiction of David in comparison to Bernini s depiction of David, one can see similar aspects as well as the demonstrated differences. The most obvious difference would be between the eras in which these sculptures were constructed and the moment in time in which both artist decided to present. Michelangelo s David, developed in the High Renaissance period, is that of a brave, confident, and strong young man; preparing himself for the battle ahead of him. • 20. Operation Anaconda Analysis Unity of Command Introduction Operation Anaconda took place in the Shahikot Valley of eastern Afghanistan. The mission began on March 2, 2001 and ended on March 16, 2001. A hammer and anvil attack, with 600 American and 400 Afghan troops, would rout, capture, or kill enemy forces. The operational timeline for a three day battle projecting light combat took fourteen days to complete. During Operation Anaconda, Unity of Command planning did not fully anticipate the need for additional forces, inducing a stall in operations on the battlefield, and negating a timely victory. Anticipation of Additional Forces In keeping with the U.S. intention to keep the footprint in Afghanistan small and allow the Afghans to do as much of the fighting as possible, TF DAGGER was directed to develop plans for an operation to clear out the Shahi Kot valley (Fleri, Howard, Hukill, Searle, 2003, p. 8). Ground combat operations in Afghanistan officially began on October 7, 2001 with small groups of Special Operations Forces Soldiers training and fighting alongside Northern Alliance troops. The effects of war as a theme in W.B.Yeats s Easter 1916 and An Irish Airman Foresees His Death Easter 1916 and An Irishman Foresees His Death are poems which were written by William Butler Yeats. Easter 1916 was written to relive the Easter Rising, an event which occurred in Ireland during Easter in the year 1916 to confirm its independence and national identity from British. An Irishman Foresees His Death was written as a tribute to Major Robert Gregory who had died while fighting for his country during World War I. For the perception of war in Easter 1916 it was a patriotic and collective force especially fighting for their nation. However, in An Irish Airman Foresees His Death, the Irishman though he was patriotic he makes war sound as though they had to go out of compulsion or was forced to go. Moreover the airman flew in the sky not only to fight but also to fulfill his desire. Those that I fight I do not hate, Those that I guard I do not love (Yeats, 1918). There is deep irony in this statement because Yeats says that those people who fight for his country and people are the courageous man whom the poet worships and he hates those people who always try to rule and make other people to follow them. This statement signifies Yeats hatred towards British country that conquered and ruled Ireland. Although they had positive thoughts towards Germany they were insisted to revolt against by the British. In Easter 1916, British colonized Ireland and harsh anti Catholic law were passed upon Irish people, that led to increase in Irish Nationalism and it let to revolt in. So in this context, Yeats is talking about the British for being too offensive and it makes the people wonder how many Irish people suffered and had been killed during World War I. • 25. Analysis Of The Catalan Architect, Antoni Gaudi Originality is returning to the origin, is one of the most famous and often repeated phrase of the Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was a devout religious man who believed that nature was the origin and he started encouraging his belief of returning to the primitive basics. He had a great regard for nature as a creation of God and most of his works were informed by an obsessive religious spiritualism, a strong relationship with nature and heavy interest in ecology with an acutely personal impression of design. Hif religious belief and architecture became increasingly intertwined, while he studied organic and anarchic forms of geometry that were derived from nature, seeking a way to give definition to these forms in his architectural designs. His interest and study of nature informed fantastic organic arrangement of forms in one of his famous residential buildings, Casa Mila, and its details. As in all Gaudi s later works, his models and studies made on the site, rather than drawings, had been the key designing method for Casa Mila. He understood the abundant idea of the natural world and expressed it with curved forms, never in straight lines. He also noticed that natural construction tended to require ponderous materials such as stone and wrought iron, mimicking the appearances of muscle, ribs and bone of living organisms. With all these organic models supporting his premises, Gaudi based the design of Casa Mila on a simple religious perception; Considering that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women that did work outside of the home were not taken seriously being seen as less intelligent than men and less able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were physically and intellectually inferior so women weren t usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4 5). Women were told if they worked, they would be taking jobs away from men that needed to support their families, but in reality most women who worked did so to support their families as well (Harrington 17 18). The unemployment rates surpassed men s 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s (Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real ambition to work (Harrington 16). During American history, there has always been some form of greed from the government, so much at times causing many wars and destruction. Slemhakkah, known as Charlot, who was the Chief of the Kalispel band of Flathead Indians, felt the same frustration and anger toward the government in 1876, when the federal government required that Montana Indians residing on reservations pay taxes. Charlot was angry with the white people s way, the greed, as well as the unfair and unjust destruction that the white man brought upon the land. He expressed his views in a powerful speech titled, He has filled graves with our bones, that was published on the Western Frontier. Charlot speaks to his people, with a tone of anger and worry. The stance that he took to inform his people and express the worries he had, is very powerful, and justifiable. This places Sivapithecus indicus roughly 15 million years after, suggesting that Sivapithecus indicus directly evolved from Proconsul heseloni. From Proconsul heseloni, it was decided that three species evolved from it. These species included A. A. afarensis, A. africanus and Sivapithecus indicus. Homo habilis followed A. africanus indicating that A. africanus was a direct ancestor of H. habilis. The reasoning for this included the brain weight and body weight of the H. habilis slightly increased from that of A. africanus. As there was a general increase the overall brain to body weight ratio, indicating that there was an increase in the overall body weight of the two. Homo erectus was branched off after H. habilis as the justification for this was from the muzzle angles of the different species. As H. erectus had a muzzle angle of 107° it was decided that it was reasonable to assume that H. erectus evolved from H. habilis. However, in the overall positioning of the phylogeny, it was placed on a side branch off H. habilis. This reasoning for this was that if H. erectus was placed on the main evolutionary line to evolve from H. ergaster, the muzzle angles from H. ergaster, H. erectus, and Homo neaderthalensis would increase then decrease. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Photovoltaic Basics Photovoltaic basics The sun is the main source of energy on earth, providing the planet with radiant energy which is transformed once it reaches every substance on the planet into a different kind of energy, making the wind blow, the seas flow and all atoms move. The energy in the Wind and sea have been used for centuries and nowadays thanks to the photovoltaic effect, a part of this vast energy can be harnessed and directly transformed into a more usable way of energy, electricity. The photovoltaic effect can be vaguely explained as the creation of electric potential and current once light is absorbed in a semiconductor material. A semiconductor material, can be doped with other elements in order to force the creation of a certain quantity of free carriers, electrons in n type and holes in p type semiconductors. When put together, this two differently doped materials form the PN junction where, through the diffusion of carriers, (i.e. electrons diffuse to the p type semiconductor and holes to the n type), an area called depletion zone is generated. The hope is that this volunteer work will give students a better sense of civic duty, and thus, be a worthy addition to college curriculums. Mandatory service learning will not have the desired effect, and should not be forced upon students. It is perhaps intuitive to think that by making students help others there will be a net positive; there could be no downside to volunteering time and effort to help the community. However, a more detailed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, to a company their time is money. If a company is forced to give its time and resources to volunteer, it might as well give money instead. That money, in the form of taxes, is already paid by both companies and individuals to the government. That money, in turn, should be used to help communities when needed. If communities need extra help, the answer is increasing taxes to provide that extra help. Forcing college students to provide that help directly ignores the efficiencies gained from specialization. A college student, who isn t even studying whatever field is needed, would be able to help more by working in their actual field for money, and then giving that money to a specialist, via the government, to provide the direct help. The only problem with that arrangement is that it doesn t provide the positive feelings that directly helping would. However, gaining a positive sense of accomplishment at the expense of providing less efficient help is a purely selfish motivation. In the case of labor being needed that almost anyone could do, there is an even greater gain in having the public at large finance the work instead of doing it directly. Instead of having a college student learn about basic construction, which he will likely never use again in his career, wouldn t it make more sense to pay someone local to the community to do the work instead? That way, not only is the work done, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Comparision Of Microscale Masses Of Hydrogen And Oxygen Abstract In this experiment, microscale quantities of hydrogen and oxygen were generated to test their explosive nature both separately and in mixtures of various proportions in order to identify the mixture with the most explosive energy, via a pop test that measured relative loudness, thus determining the optimal ratio for their combustion reaction to give water, and determine a mole ratio for the reaction in a balanced equation. Each gas mixture was then tested for power as fuel through the launching of a micro mole rocket. The gases were produced via two separate generators which isolated a chemical reaction to either produce oxygen or hydrogen gas, the reactions included the single replacement reaction reaction of zinc and hydrochloric acid to generate hydrogen gas, and the yeast catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to generate oxygen gas ... Gas collection bulbs were filled with different proportions of each gas, proportional to the number of moles of gas present, and were tested for relative loudness, which represented power/ explosive energy via a pop test in which a match was struck near the bulb. The loudness was measured via a scale in which the most explosive mixture was given a ten and the least explosive given a zero. The ratios were tested for their ability to launch the bulb a distance during a rocket launch in which the bulb rocket was placed on a launch pad and ignited by a piezo sparker. Both dependent variables, distance and loudness represented overall explosion energy and were used to indicate which of the ratios represented the optimum ratio of hydrogen and oxygen to give water in a combustion reaction. To be considered valid, the amount of error in each data point must have fallen into the range of average deviation of the measurements. Data was error prone for relative loudness was measured based on blind perception of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This study examined administration and scoring errors made by graduate students when administering the Woodcock Johnson III Tests of Cognitive Abilities (WJ III COG). In the past studies have been conducted on graduate student errors made on other assessment of cognitive abilities, such as the Wechsler Scales. This study s findings were similar to previous studies. The study participants consisted of 36 graduate students who attended a school psychology program at a metropolitan university. There were 31 females and 5 males, of which there were 30 Caucasian, 4 Latino, 1 Asian and 1 African American. All of the students were first year students, enrolled in cognitive assessment courses taught by the same professor (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). All students were required to administer the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to volunteers. The first administration for each student was not considered for the study, which produced 108 testing administrations. These administrations and scores were then examined by advanced level graduate students taught by the same professor. The instrument used for scoring the administrations was a checklist first created by Schermerhorn and Alfonso, and was designed to record the frequency and types of errors made during the administration and scoring of the test (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653). After each of the 108 tests were scored using the checklist, it was found that there were 500 errors made. While the mean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Mental Change In Greasy Lake By T. Coraghessan Boyle Written in 1985, author T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake is a short story retelling a catalyst incidence that led to a mental change in a group of rebellious youths. The most critical scene where this change is most apparent surfaces after the bad guys left and the narrator was left plunged in the muddy river, contemplating his life and that of the corpse beside him. Through this short but intense story, Boyle has successfully integrated the elements of characterisation and setting to vividly illustrate the realization about life for the teenagers. The first to be exploited was how characterisation of the narrator and his friends in the scene has contributed to the theme of changing. The clear tactile imageries in the paragraph such ... For the use of our current studies, this novel is a brilliant bridge between the witty words of one man s views of the world and the history in which it is surrounded. He also took shots at elitist nobility and the unfair women s rights of the time, using irony to show the uselessness of the unjust systems and privileges (or lack thereof).
