A noisyless integrated system of visible free space optic (VFSO) and broadband powerline
communication (BPLC) that uses already installed powerline cables and white LEDs as a
communication channel for indoor computer network infrastructure is proposed. This system has the
advantage of low cost and easy implementation for data transmission. The impulsive noise exist on
powerline disturbs the system performance considerably, so in order to address such a problem a
signal clipping scheme has been proposed. The performance of proposed system is evaluated and
compared in terms of bit error rate (BER) with the existing system. Results confirmed that the
proposed system has better performance than existing one.

1. INTRODUCTION
VFSO is a kind of optical wireless communication system which utilizes the fast switching of
white LEDs (WLED) to modulate the visible-light wave for free space optic communications [1].
Apart from wireless systems for indoor applications, there is increasing interests to use ubiquitous
wired system for home networking so called power line communication (PLC). Using the powerline
as a communication medium could be a cost effective way compared to other systems because it uses
an existing cabling infrastructure.
The idea of integrating these two systems for indoor networking was pioneered by Komine
et.al [2] which was based on narrowband PLC and single carrier modulation. Our team in recent
works, have proposed new broadband (1MHz up to 30 MHz) integrated system in which by
considering all types of noises and multipath effects in the hostile PLC medium, discrete multi-tone
(DMT) modulation was selected to overcome channel impairments and blue filter was used to
increase the bandwidth of commercially available phosphor-based white LED at receiver from 2 to
~20 MHz [3]. In this work, besides using DMT modulation we have also applied clipping scheme to
overcome impulsive noise effects. Clipping is cutting off amplitude of the signal over threshold level
[4]. The main components of integrated system are shown in Fig.1. It consists of:
