This document summarizes a study that uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation to analyze the performance and cavitation characteristics of a mixed-flow centrifugal pump. The study first validates a 3D CAD model of the pump impeller by simulating its pressure distribution, velocity distribution, power, and efficiency. It then performs cavitation analysis at various mass flow rates and speeds to identify the threshold mass flow rate where cavitation begins for each speed. The results show that cavitation increases with higher mass flow rates and speeds. Overall, the study demonstrates how CFD can be used to predict pump performance and cavitation behavior to aid in pump design and operation.
