This document provides an overview of contract poultry farming in Nashik District, India. It discusses that contract poultry farming involves companies providing day-old chicks, feed, and medicines to farmers who provide land, labor, and variable inputs. The objectives of the study are to understand poultry farming, examine factors considered by farmers in contract farming, and analyze the costs and returns. Key findings are that the major motivating factors for contract farming are lower capital requirements, assured returns, and lower risk compared to independent farming. Variable costs are also found to be approximately five times lower for contract farmers compared to independent farmers due to companies providing inputs.
