3. Gaming magazines
• Journalist reporting and evaluation of video games in periodicals
began from the late 1970s to 1980 in general coin-operated industry
magazines like Play Meter and RePlay, home entertainment
magazines like Video, as well as magazines focused on computing and
new information technologies like InfoWorld or Popular Electronics.
4. Front page (games)
• The front cover is the most important part,
because it has to catch the readers eye. The
magazine name is usually at the top of the page
while the magazine title is in the centre of the
page or in front of an image, which has something
to do with magazine genre, however the magazine
name is usually bigger and stands out more, this is
done because customers look at the magazine
brand first before they look at the title, also the
fonts used in this product are bold which is
another way to catch the readers eye. The colours
used in a magazine are used to grab the customers
attention as well as tell the audience what type of
genre the game is, for this magazine the colours
mainly used are orange and red, these colours
represent danger and blood, which tells the
audience that this is an action game.
5. Double page spread
• The double page spread is
where most of the information
and text is, usually there is more
text than images but in this
double page spread its more
even. This might be done to
appeal to a younger audience.
The colours and text are usually
the same as the front cover, for
this product they went with a
bold but simple font.
6. Website
• The gaming websites usually
don’t have colour on them and
are often quite dark, with only
some colour shown in images or
logo. This give the website a more
modern feel. The logo of the
website is at the top of the page,
and all the information and
pictures are below that. Websites
are also a lot more popular
because they are quick and easy
to access and it is a lot easier to
find what you want.

7. Movie magazine research
• The empire magazine was first issued in July 1989, and originated in the UK.
• Empire is populists in both approach and coverage. It reviews both mainstream
films and art films, but feature articles concentrate on the former.
8. Front page (movies)
The empire magazine (movie magazine) isn’t too
similar to the PC gamer magazine designs, there
magazine title fonts are a lot bigger and bolder, and
there are more vibrant stand out colours. And there
is usually a main character in full view and centre of
the page. A design that most magazines go with like
this one, is to place there characters overlaying the
title, this is done to make the character stand out
and look 3D, there are no long sentences, just names
and titles to catch the audiences eyes. The colours
used in the front page are bright, which tell the
audience that the movie its advertising could be
funny or joyful.
9. Double page spread
The double page spread of an empire magazine is
very eye catching due to its use of movie images that
accompany the information about the movie. On this
double page spread one page (the first page) is
completely covered with just one image from the
movie, and the other page is covered with
information about the movie, and typed across both
of the pages is a slogan to do with the movie, which
ties both the pages together, the colours used in the
images are dark, which can tell the audience that the
genre of the movie is quite moody, and scary. Also
the way the character looks in the image, the fact
that he where's armour, has a shield and is quite
dirty, tells the audience that this is an action film
10. Website
The home page of an empire website has
rotating headlines about different movies. It
also has advertisements for other movies at
the side. The website also has a trending tab to
tell the audience what's popular at the
moment. The website name is bright and the
font bold so that it stands out.
11. Magazine Research (entertainment)
WWE Magazine was the official professional wrestling magazine of WWE.
This incarnation of the magazine contains lifestyle sections, a monthly
calendar, entertainment, work out tips, and other information. It was
announced in July 2014 that after thirty years, the magazine would cease
production, although special issues would continue to be published.
12. Front cover (entertainment)
The WWE magazine always has a different style to
suit the wrestler or wrestlers on the front. For this
magazine they went with a dark and moody look
which will let the audience know that the shield
(the wrestlers on the front cover) are villains also
known as heels. But it has a beacon of light behind
them suggesting that there is good in them. The
logo/magazine title is slightly different to any other
magazines, instead of completely covering the top
of the page, the logo is placest in the top left corner
this is because they want you to focus on there
wrestlers not there logo.
13. Double page spread
On this double page spread it advertises a
video game that’s based on there
product. And the audience can
immediately tell that it’s a video game
from the images it uses.
14. Website
On the wwe website the background is
completely black, this is done to make
everything else stand out, also black blends
well with any colour. The fonts are all
different if there's a different subject.
