1. Mode of address In an attempt to try and make the film seem much more interesting and exciting to the targeted audience, quotes such as “The world’s best movie reviews” are used in order to make the film seem like a more interesting release for the public to look at. The way in which the film characters and graphics are laid out is done primarily so that it seems more interesting to the certain age group and fans that might be interested in such a film. Graphics The graphics chosen for this particular magazine cover are intended to relate and simulate the genre and design behind the film idea itself. For example the solid neon like font is used so that it relates to the film being advertised on the front of the page (Tron Legacy). The way in which the disc being held by the character on the front to represent an “O” is also an interesting feature as it makes the characters and the film itself seem much more involved in the magazine. Latest headlines Despite this film being one of the main topics in this magazine, headlines for different films being released around the same time are shown also. For example it says “Jackass returns” which helps to advertise for this film as well as helps towards making the public aware of the release. Photography / Cover image The photo used for this cover is supposed to represent the main characters of the film and make them seem much more important since they are standing boldly on the front of the magazine.
2. Graphics The graphics of the cover are intended to try and relate to the idea and design behind the film itself. For example the way in which the title is designed to look like the design of a city from a birds eye view. Also the idea of having the main character of the film (Dom Cobb) helps to relate to the fact that the film mainly being displayed (Inception) is the main topic of this magazine. Also the font that has been chosen for the magazine relates to the cover as it consists of a colour and layout that bends well with the rest of the cover. Mode of address Despite this film being one of the main topics in this magazine, headlines for different films being released around the same time are shown also which allows the readers to be informed about an even larger selection of films apart from the main one displayed on the front of the magazine. Photography / Cover image The photo of Dom Cobb (Played by Leonardo Dicaprio) used for this cover is supposed to represent the main character of the film and make him seem much more important since he is standing boldly on the front of the magazine. Also the way the lighting of the character suggests that the film has a rather mysterious or secretive side to it. Latest headlines Despite this film being one of the main topics in this magazine, headlines for different films being released around the same time are shown also. For example on the right of the cover it lists a series of new films and various opinions and the latest news for them. Such as “Toy story 3 vs Shrek 4” Which shows that the magazine consists of topics which relate or involve arguments about the topic.
3. Graphics The designs for the cover are very basic with no extreme usage of texture or pictures to make the cover stand out however the idea of having Megan Fox on the front in order to advertise the film “Jennifer's body” helps to capture the viewers attention instead. Also the idea of having one of her hands covered in blood helps to give the viewers a rough idea of what the film relates to. Latest headlines Along the side of the picture rather than listing the films by their titles they have been given headers that relate to the film but try to keep you guessing what they are (For example “The Facebooking fincher” for the film “The social network”. Also the first half of the headers are set in bold which draws your attention towards the most striking part of the header. Mode of address The cover is laid out so that it has main headlines listed all around the main topic in the centre which is the main film being covered in the magazine “Jennifer’s body”. By having headlines such as “128 films reviewed” and “94 more movers, shakers, movies & makers!” this allows for the viewers to understand that the product is advertising for more than one film. Photography / Cover image The idea of having not only headlines to advertise the films but also photos from the latest releases helps to give viewers a rough outline of what to expect in the films as well as key scenes that possibly will be included in them.
4. Graphics The graphics of the cover are intended to try and relate to the idea and design behind the film itself. For example the idea of having streaked lighting in the background helps to show that the film relates to car chases hence also the idea of having the car in the foreground. Also the title of the film “The green hornet” has a font, colour and look about it that makes it relate to the product much more as it has a similar look to it. Latest Headlines The headlines for many films are displayed and laid out all around the main image in the centre and have been arranged into categories so that each header relates to a specific part of the cover such as the new releases (Cowboy’s and aliens, Sherlock holmes 2, etc) being displayed on the left. Photography / Cover image The main image used for the cover has been taken from the main film which this magazine is advertising but also photos have been used to help advertise for various other films which have been planned to be released at a similar time. Mode of address Although the film shown in the centre of the cover is the magazine’s main topic it also includes advertisements for various other films of either similar genre or release date so that the whole product relates to every part that is being displayed.
5. Photography / Cover image The main image being shown in a bold font at the top of the cover, taking up most if not all of the space on the page along with the main photo/image used for the magazine. And since the magazine is well known the image is shown over lapping the title. Graphics The graphics for the cover are not particularly extreme as the cover has no headlines or major pieces of artwork that stand out. The cover is made up of the main photo used, the magazine title and one headline that takes up the whole bottom right corner. The graphics for the photo chosen however stand out as they allow for the viewer to immediately understand just what the magazine is about . Latest Headlines No other headlines for other films have been shown which has made the cover seem very basic without giving the viewers any other information apart from the Magazine title and a few quotes about the magazine also. This is one of the reasons why I find this specific magazine very poorly done as it does not include any other information that is necessary for the viewers to know about. Mode of address In an attempt to try and make the film seem much more interesting and exciting to the targeted audience, quotes such as “The sins of Spider-man” and “Inside the fun and fear of Spider-man 3” are used in order to make the film seem like a more interesting release for the public to look at.
6. Mode of address The magazine intends on showing the viewers that the magazine is advertising for a number of films and topics which are listed and displayed across the front cover (Listed on the bottom left for example). However to show what the magazine is talking about specifically, a photo has been included in order to make the viewers understand what the magazine is talking about in particular. Photography / Cover image The main image being shown in the centre, taking up most if not all of the space on the page and since the magazine is well known the image is shown over lapping the title. Latest Headlines Rather than having most of the headlines scattered in small arranged groups around the cover , instead has the headlines all grouped together in one specific spot which in this case is on the bottom left hand side which means that much more of the cover can be utilised for things such as photos and titles. Graphics The graphics of the cover are intended to try and relate to the idea and design behind the film itself. The way in which this magazine has gone about doing this is by having the main character (The mad Hatter) on the front to help show that the main topic is covering the film “Alice in Wonderland”.
