Jigsaw: What
do you think
the film might
be about from
its title?
Genre? Why?
From the title we can depict that the genre is mystery due to
the word “jigsaw” connotes trying to put things together and
figure something out with things such as clues acting as the
pieces of the jigsaw and the final complete jigsaw being the
mystery solved. However, there could be a more complex
underlying meaning towards the title as it could have further
associations.
After the read through, the jigsaw is portrayed to be a
symbol of their relationship-The genre is rom-com as the
male character is trying so hard to be the “perfect” boyfriend
but keeps messing up adding to the concept of comedy
Mise-en-
scene:
CLAMPS
Location/set - Flat
Props - Jigsaw puzzle, coffee table, keys, flowers, phone,
mug, tea towel, food and bowls.
Costume - Casual clothes
Make-Up - Less make-up
Lighting - High key lighting
Editing From the script we can see that “Jigsaw” uses a lot of cross
cutting throughout the script as well as shot reverse shot.
I think that throughout this script the editing aspect of it will
consist of color grading which will set a romantic atmosphere
whilst at the same time creating a depressing sad
atmosphere.
Camerawork:
CAMS
● Close up on the puzzle pieces and characters.
● Establishing shot of the block of flats and living room.
● POV of him looking at the table and at the puzzle
pieces.
● Mid shot of him distraught on the sofa.
● Long shot of the lonely figure in the distance.
● Mid long shot of Guy at the door.
● Two shot of Guy and Jake plus of Nancy and Barista.

Soundtrack The type of music that is expected is romantic non-diegetic
music. Furthermore, there will be asynchronous sound
effects present complementing the scene going on for
example when the glass is breaking there will be sound
effects of the glass “crashing”.And when keys are being
taken from the scene there will be a “jangling” Furthermore
there will be general sounds such as “glass breaking, loud
shouting, feet stomping” As well as “hallmark sounds”
expected in the breakup.
Screening:
Did the
narrative
translate
better or
worse than the
script? Explain
why you think
this.
The narrative translates the script better because everything
plus little extra details that heightened the meaning. Not
every detail is represented in the narrative however we can
clearly get a good and precise idea of what is going on in
order to represent the narrative. This is essential as it makes
everything straight forward, clear and concise.
Screening:
Explain what
you think
didn’t quite
work in the
short film.
There were a few things that didn’t work in the short film
such as; the sound being used when Nancy slams the door
was too loud and dramatic. The camera angles being used
were not shot properly and there was shady effects.
Explain what
you would have
done differently
in the
production and
post-production
if you were
working with
that script.
If i was working in the film I would ensure that verisimilitude
is kept and is the main focus of this film as some of the lines
said during the scripting seem rather unusual and almost
unreal. However this could be easily avoided if in production
and post-production they changed or altered the script as
well as practiced shots in order to increase verisimilitude and
realism.
What will this
exercise make
you think
about when
you write your
own script?
This exercise will make us think of various aspects to
consider when planning and writing the script for it to act as
a guidance for not only the actors but for the director and the
sound editors who will use the script to ensure specific
attributes are portrayed to a high standard. However it also
incorporated the morals, values that associations which are
presented throughout the film.

What will this
exercise make
you think
about when
you are in
production
and post-
production?
This exercise will help our group script out a fine detailed
script that will provide a basic guide for us to look over as
well as helping us plan our shots and know which order to
film them in. This exercise will allow us to be able to have an
overview of what we are doing and how we should carry it
out during production and post production.
