NISCAIR
NICAIR stands for National Institute of Science Communication And Information
Resources.
NISCAIR came into existence on 30 September 2002 (Headquarter – New Delhi) with
the merger of NISCOM and INSDOC.
Both NISCOM and INSDOC, the two premier institutes of the Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (CSIR), were devoted to dissemination and documentation of
S&T information.
NISCOM (National Institute of Science Communication) came into being in 1951.
INSDOC (Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre) came into being in 1952 and
was engaged in providing S&T information and documentation services.

ACTIVITIES
The core activity of NISCAIR is to collect/store, publish and disseminate S&T
information through a mix of traditional and modern means, which benefits
different segments of society.
The institute offers wide range of information services ranging from literature
search to production and printing of S&T publications.
The institute has strong Human Resource Development Programme for training
personnel in library & information science, documentation, science
communication and herbarium techniques.

FUNCTION AND DUTIES
To provide formal linkages of communication among the scientific community in the
form of research journals in different areas of S&T.
To disseminate S&T information to general public, particularly school students, to
inculcate interest in science among them.
To collect, collate and disseminate information on plant, animal and mineral wealth of
the country.
To harness information technology applications in information management with
particular reference to science communication and modernizing libraries.
To act as a facilitator in furthering the economic, social, industrial, scientific and
commercial development by providing timely access to relevant and accurate
information.
To develop human resources in science communication, library, documentation and
information science and S&T information management systems and services.

DRTC
DRTC stands for Documentation Research and Training Centre
DRTC is a research centre for library and information science and allied disciplines at
the ISI, Bangalore.
Headquarter: Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, India.
The Centre was established in April 1962, under the auspices of Prof. S. R. Ranganathan.
DRTC runs a graduate program leading to the award of a 'Master of Science in Library
and Information Science' (MS-LIS) from the Indian Statistical Institute as well as
serving as an academic and research centre for Research Fellows registered for a PhD
in Information Science.

is an autonomous organisation of the Government of India.

SCERT is a nodal agency recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education
(NCTE).
SCERT recognized for admission, curriculum construction, course conduct,

CIEFL
CIEFL stands for Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages.
CIEFL was set up in 1958 (It has been renamed as English and Foreign Languages
University (EFLU) in 2007).
CIEFL became a central university in 2007, it has three campuses. The main campus
is in Hyderabad. Its main objective is to bring about qualitative change in the
standard of English teaching in India.
CIEFL the only such university dedicated to languages in South Asia.
