2. ANALYZE THE
STUDENTS
I am teaching a class room in rural West Virginia.
My class consists of 13 males and 10 females. The
breakdown of the class is that 90% are Caucasian
with 5% African American and 5% Latino. There
are no learning disabilities in the class, but there is
one child who is wheel chair bound and will not be
able to participate in any physical activities. They
have somewhat limited resources since they are
from poorer homes, but they all have access to
computers, internet, and cell phones.
3. STATE OBJECTIVES
-Students will gain knowledge of the tensions that
built up during the months leading up to the first
battles of the revolutionary war. There were quite a
few factors the lead to the breaking point between
the colonists and the British crown. This lesson
will go through most of the stages and reasons the
colonists were so upset at the beginning of the
war.
4. SELECT METHODS,
MEDIA, AND MATERIAL
- Students will watch YouTube video about Boston
Massacre from documentary “Story Of Us”
- Students will need a smart phone with internet
access to create a twitter page.
- Students will need a computer with Adobe Photo
shop on it to create the flyer about the Boston
Massacre. These will both be made available at
the school computer lab. The students will also
be able to create a poster from the British king
to the colonist explaining new tax policy.
5. UTILIZING MEDIA AND
MATERIALS
- Class will start with all of the students watching a YouTube
video from the documentary “The Story of Us.” This will
give them ground work and an understanding for the rest
of the material.
- Students will pretend that they are an angry colonist in
Boston. They will create and twitter page angrily
protesting the massacre. They must have a minimum of 4
angry tweets.
- Just like Paul Revere did. Students will create a flyer using
Adobe photo shop to create propaganda about the Boston
Massacre. They may also create a flyer that can be used
by the British Empire to tell us about the new taxes they
are imposing on the colonists.
6. REQUIRE LEARNER
PARTICIPATION
All students will be required to participate in these
assignments. Some of the students will be
advantaged because they are more artistic, but
they all have the capabilities of creating these
flyers and twitter accounts. The accounts and
flyers will be graded by me personally and the
flyers will be posted around the room at the end of
the lesson.
7. EVALUATE AND
REVISE
This lesson went over very smoothly. The students
had a lot of fun with the twitter pages and got a
kick out of the flyers. Maybe next time I will weaken
the boundaries so that the students can have even
more artistic freedom.
