This document outlines an ASSURE method lesson plan for teaching high school seniors about cultures within different countries. The teacher will analyze the learners as 17-18 year olds from West Virginia who are interested in the subject but easily distracted. The objective is for students to fully understand the cultures of countries in their assigned groups. The method will involve hands-on activities and group work. Videos and interactive maps will be used as media materials along with posters for presentations. Students will view videos, research countries on Wikipedia, and mark country borders on maps. Learner participation will occur through daily discussions, and the teacher will evaluate understanding through monitoring online group work.

ASSURE METHOD
Analyze the Learner-
The class that I will be teaching to will be a group of high school seniors around the ages
of 17-18 years old, of a predominantly white area in West Virginia, who are taking my
class out of the necessity for college, and want of the class. This is not a core class that
every student has to go through so I know I can teach at a more in depth level because
the interest in the subject is higher in these students. However, being teenagers, my
students still have the tendencies to get distracted easily, thus, having to make the
assignments a little more hands on and less lecture
State the Objective-
A-Audience-
My students
B-Behavior-
Will fully understand the cultures that are within the countries they had in their groups
C-Condition-
By using Youtube, Wikipedia, and an Interactive map to use on the smartboard
D-Degree-
At 100% accuracy
Select the Method, Media, and Materials-
Method- It would be best for this group of students, for me as the teacher to use hands
on activities to form a good student/teacher interaction. After finishing the hands on
activities, allow the students to learn off of each other in a group based and student
centered work environment.
Media- I believe that using Youtube Videos and interactive maps will be the best use of
media because they will be the best source of first-hand information. Also, using social
media and blogging sites will allow my students to successfully stay in touch with each
other. Where Youtube videos can show clips of the actual war and interactive maps can
show where and when everything that happened during the war, happened.
Materials- I will be using mainly internet and offline programs to do my teaching, like
youtube, PowerPoint, and google. The other portion will be providing poster material
for students to do their group presentations at the end of the week.
2. U-Utilize the Materials-
To utilize the materials that I will be using for my lesson plan, I will again be
showing my students a youtube video, then giving them all a link to Wikipedia
connecting to a list of world leaders during World War I. When they have looked
through the page in their groups, one member from each group will approach
the smartboard and trace the borders of their country at the beginning of the
war and at the end of the war on an interactive map provided for them.
R-Require Learner Participation-
In order to get the attention of my class, I would start a morning or beginning of
class discussion about how each group is coming along on their final research
for the presentation. This gives each student in the group a chance to talk if they
want.
E-Evaluate and Revise-
For students at the high level my seniors would be at, evaluating them should
not be necessary, however, for precautionary measures, I would keep up on the
blogs and Facebook pages that my students have made for each of their groups.
I would randomly go onto the blogs and pages throughout the week and ask
questions on how everything is going with the project. Ask them what new
information they have learned from researching their country that they have
taken over in their group. This allows me to see who does and does not know
the information on that particular topic. In my student centered classroom
however, they will rely on the philosophy of “Ask 3 and then me.”
