4. CONVERSATION SURFERS AND DISINTEREST
Conversation surfers are people who show no interest in what you have to
say thus they concentrate on other peoples conversation around you
Sometimes we don’t have the same interest so we tend to not pay attention
or tune out stuff that aren’t important to us.
5. INTERRUPTIONS AND DISTRACTIONS
Interruptions
• Interrupt because we want to tell our own story
• Interrupt speaker because we think we’ve grasped what they were
trying to say and we might miss important information.
Distractions
• Can’t pay attention when doing other stuff
• People think they can pay attention while working on the computer or
while in a call
6. TRAITS OF A GOOD LISTENER
• Pays attention
• Is not distracted by things happening around
• Gives feedback when speaker is done, or can summarize main points
• Lets speaker finish so no important information is missed
• And lastly patience, sometimes people speak slowly or not clearly and it
takes patience to put up with that, and understanding them
