Codes and conventions-
feature page
• Title in the top right corner going with the codes and
conventions of a regional magazine, reminding the reader
who made the magazine, meeting informational needs.
• Title in large serif font more sophisticated style also
showing its targeted at an older audience.
• Not an image for every article and therefore more words
which again shows an older target audience.
• Text aligned into columns which is a common feature to a
regional magazine.
• On the main image small text in the corner giving a little
incite into the picture.
• For the two sub titles they are in different fonts and sizes,
this is an unusual technique. I don’t think I like it as makes
the page look less neat.
• Separate column along the right side of the page with
mini features on it, common convention of a regional
magazine feature page.
• Mast head of page displayed in top right corner common
convention of a regional magazine. Showing what feature the
page is. News is a regular feature to most magazines.
• Text aligned in in columned ordering the text making it easier
for the customer.
• Sub titles in serif font and a grey/black for a more sophisticated
look also indicating a older target audience.
• Stories split at top half and bottom half of the page with the
image linked to the article. I think this is more confusing and
prefer the singular columns to each article.
• Small text underneath image giving a brief incite into the
picture and where it is.
• Separate column for ‘charity news’ on the side, this a regular
sub feature in this magazine, although sub feature’s are
conventional to all magazines but I don’t think I will go for the
feature charity.
• Title in a serif font which draws the eye to the reader, in the top
right corner more out the way, pink colouring goes with the
coloursheme of the magazine of the page and suggests a
younger arty audience.
• Multiple images used gives a more visual interaction for their
audience. Image colours go with the pages colourway.
• Text set into columns linking picture to article. Also making it
easy find the different articles.
• Small bit of advertisement in the middle of the page goes with
the codes and conventions of a magazine, helping local
businesses in the area.
• Page number common codes and conventions of a magazine.#
• Titles to articles underlined and in different colourway this is to
make it easy for the reader to distinguish different articles, and
keeps to colourway of page.
• News is the feature of the page which is usually found near the
front of the magazine.
• In bottom left corner the title of the magazine and date of
issue, meeting the informational needs of the magazine.
• Separate column for another article, this a regular sub
feature in this magazine, although sub feature’s are
conventional to all magazines I think I will go for a sub
genre instead of another article.
• Title in serif font giving the page a sophisticated look,
perhaps targeting at an older audience.
• Images linked to the article it’s next to, common feature of
feature page. Not an image to every article meaning the
page is text heavy and aimed at an older audience.
• For the sub titles they are in different fonts and sizes, this
is an unusual technique. I don’t think I like it as makes the
page look less neat.
• Email site for the magazine linking the magazine to the
internet and allowing readers to interact with the
magazine and feel more of a part of the magazine.
• Gone for a unique feature page of quiz, doesn’t go with
the codes and conventions of a feature page especially
the beginning pages. I don’t think I will go for this
feature.
• Title in large serif font in black colouring in the middle
of the page unusual positioning for the title going
against the codes and conventions of a magazine. The
serif font giving the page a more sophisticated style.
• Images mostly clustered together at the bottom of the
page as part of the quiz. Image round makes it more
appealing to younger audiences.
• The feature ‘quiz’ appealing to all audiences, allowing
younger people to get involved.
• Answers at the back of the book, meeting the
customers cognitive needs making them go through the
whole book to find them so the reader sees more
articles.
• In bottom left corner the title of the magazine and date of
issue, meeting the informational needs of the magazine.
• Images linked to the article its next to, small sentence giving a
brief summary of what the picture shows, common feature to
a regional magazine.
• Feature of the page written in black serif font at the top of the
page, sophisticated style shows an older target audience. In
small font at the top corner of the page more out the way.
unusual technique for the feature page. I like it as makes the
title more subtle
• Two main sub titles in the same font and size, goes with the
conventions of a magazine. I like this as makes the page look
neater.
• Smaller article on the side of the page common in regional
magazine feature pages.
• Site linking article to internet platforms, working with charities
organisations to raise more money form them.
• In bottom left corner the title of the magazine and date of
issue, meeting the informational needs of the magazine.
• Title of page in large black serif font, showing a sophisticated
style and perhaps showing the magazine targeting at an older
audience.
• Feature of the magazine is ‘August’ an unusual feature page
for the magazine, with majority of regional magazines starting
with news as the opening feature.
• Text aligned into columns ordering the text making it easier
for the customer to read the magazine.
• Sub feature on the side of the page common feature to a
regional magazine. Quiz is the sub feature which appeals to all
audiences, seeing their knowledge of where they live. Reader
wants to know the answers and if their right meeting their
cognitive needs. I like this as a sub feature more to give the
page a but of fun but not as the pages main feature.
• Celebrity used to attract the reader intriguing them to see
what she’s doing in their area.
Feature page summary:
• In bottom left corner the title is often put in the magazine and date of issue, meeting the informational
needs of the magazine.
• Title is usually in big bold serif font in the middle of the page making it stand out and also giving it a
sophisticated style. However I did like the look of putting the title in smaller font in the top right corner
giving it less focus on the page.
• A news feature is often used as the opening feature page, I think I will stick to this convention.
• Sub feature making up its own column on the right side of the magazine, goes with the codes and
conventions of a regional magazine feature page. I liked the sub feature ‘quiz’ as thought it was fun and
appealed to a wider range of audiences.
• Text was commonly ordered into columns I liked this as made the page look neat, easy to read and separated
each article for the reader.
• Image linked to each article to give more of a visual interaction for the audience. Also helping them be part
of the article more. More images more reader friendly.
• Sometimes sub titles were put into different fonts and sizes I thought it made the page look scruffy and
preferred when they were all the same.
