Question 2
1. Question 2
The main character in our film is Nikki who is the girl being bullied and Sam who is Nikki’s
best and only friend.
Nikki
This character is meant to be represented as an ordinary girl who gets
bullied by the bullies in her school due to bad luck. Ever since she has
been getting bullied she has closed almost everyone out of her life
and she has lost her confidence and will power. This is similar to the
character Katie in Kidulthood who committed suicide because of
stress from her bullies. This is also similar to many of the citizens that
the yobs in the area hurt in Outlaw.
Sound
When Nikki talks she is always quiet and sad. Sometimes she just nods or attempts to crack a
smile as a way of communicating through her body language. We also her diagetic sound of
her crying and her reaction to being beaten up by the bullies.
Camera/position in the frame
Nikki is never in the centre of the frame he is always on the side or in the background unless
she is being beaten up. This has been done to show the target audience how she feels about
herself and about how others feel about her. Her position in the frame makes her seem like
the less important character when in actual fact she is the main one. She is also in the centre
of the frame when she is by herself and when she decides to kill herself and her bullies with
a knife.
Lighting
The lighting would be natural; however we purposely shot specific scenes at night time in
order to add to the sad atmosphere. The lightings natural in order to maintain realism. This
is similar to the lighting in the film Adulthood.
Props
Her props are ordinary belongings that a teenage girl would own e.g. nail varnish. We put
some props on the floor in order make Nikki’s room look messy, which is typical of the
average teenager. This is similar to the character Kelly in misfits who has many girly
belongings in her room.
Setting
Nikki is generally located in her bedroom because it’s her own personal
space and where she feels most comfortable. This is where she lets out
any emotions that may have been reserved in front of other characters
in the film. This is similar to the character Simon in misfits who spends
most of his time outside of community service in his room because he
had no friends.
Why we used the cast we used.
We used Deborah to play this character because she had taken Drama as a GCSE , so it
would be easier to direct her and for her to adapt to the character Nikki. Deborah was also
easy to get a hold of because she was in my group, so she would always be available.
Directing
2. Although I wasn’t the director I often told Deborah she needs to look more depressed. I also
told her to imagine what it would be like to be bullied. Sometimes when something didn’t
look right I would add my own suggestion.
Sam
Sam is Nikki’s only friend, but she also has friends of her own, but she devotes most of her
time to Nikki because she is worried about her wellbeing. She is always there when Nikki
need her and she is always trying to help her out with the bullies, but with no success. Sam
doesn’t get bullied because she has an older brother in the year above.
Sound
Sam is a very confident person, so she talks a lot and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. When
she talks to Nikki she speaks more in a gentler tone to sound more comforting.
Camera/position in the frame
She is always in the centre and at the front to show the target audience how confident she
is. It is also a good way to show the audience who is the most dominant character of the
two. She is generally talking when she is in these shots. The fact that she’s in the front, while
Nikki is in the back shows how out of place Nikki is. This is similar in kidulthood because
Trevor is always in the centre of the frame when he is with his friends.
