2. Dahlia
• In our opening sequence the main character
you see is a 16 year old girl in the middle class
trying portray a girl with an olden day look of
1940’s in a modern day of 1990’s we decided
to do this to create mystery of the family. In
the opening sequence you see that Dahlia
portrays a brave girl who is protecting her
sister Cynthia from her schizophrenic father.
3. Dahlia
• We showed she was the main character as you can see
glimpses of her throughout of the opening sequence.
The shots we used showed a sense of panic as they
were panned shows, low angles, and scenes of a
behind shot with quick action movement from the
camera showing a sense of panic and rush. We showed
the dominance of and sense of panic also through the
vocals as you hear in the dialogue in the end of the
sequence the girls have really shaky voices and are
whispering throughout the sequence which has been
slightly amplified to help the audience understand
what is taking place.
4. Cynthia
• As a secondary character Cynthia plays the younger
sister of Dahlia she also shows she isn’t as independent
as Dahlia as she has learning difficulties. Cynthia is
played as a 13 year old girl from the middle class in the
time zone of 1990’s with a more modern look as she is
younger than Dahlia.
• During the sequence you see very little of Cynthia in
the beginning clips but more to the end you get to
know about Cynthia by how her character is played you
can see that Dahlia makes things very simple for her to
understand.
5. Cynthia
• In the sequence we showed very little of the
character Cynthia through the camera work as
she isn't the main character, we did show her as
not very important through the camera work in
the end of the sequence as you can see the
camera cuts back and forth from Dahlia to
Cynthia showing less off Cynthia than Dahlia.
Through the editing of the sound we amplified
Cynthia’s sound to get a more clearer
understanding of what she was saying to Dahlia.
6. Representation?
• In the opening sequence the inspiration
for the character in terms of what Dahlia
could look like was taken from the
character Wednesday Addams.
• The look we was going for was a young girl
with a pale face and a fashion sense of an
olden day dressing style which is nearly
portrayed by our character Dahlia. The
reason we chose to go with this is because
in a thriller you tend to see the character
with pale face and an olden day look
which gives a spooky vibe to the opening
sequence.
