2. Freaky Friday The colours used are green and purple, which are completely opposite colours. They also used red and blue, which are also opposite colours. These colours that have been used highlight how different mother (Jame Lee Curtis) and daughter (Lindsay Lohan) are. The mother is standing on the purple side, while the daughter is standing on the green side of the poster, which highlights there opposite interests even more. The costumes of the characters serve as symbols to it’s targeted audience e.g. a suit is generally associated with someone who’s serious, busy and working in the city. This is why the audience are confused and surprised when they are shown a young girl wearing a suit with high heels, especially seeming as suits are associated with adults. The audience is even more confused due to the mother’s costume seeming as she is wearing a short skirt, boots and a jean jacket. She is even holding a guitar, which automatically allows the audience to attach the labels of fun, reckless and childish to the mother. It is clear to the audience that there costumes are meant to be the other way around and this is emphasised even more by the fact that their facial expressions shows us that there shocked and surprised, even more than the audience. Although the audience have already gathered that both of the characters should be wearing the other characters costume the poster goes on to say “every teenagers nightmare…..turning into her mother”. This suggests that the mother and daughters personality has changed. Audiences would be shocked with this concept seeming as it was a new idea for movies at the time, even though this film was a remake of the original ‘Freaky Friday’.
3. Freaky Friday I think the intended audience for the poster are 13- late 30 year old who can relate to that situation seeming as a lot of them are likely to be mothers. Teenagers would also be able to relate to this seeming as a teenager and parent resenting each other is a typical thing for people of that age to do. I think there also targeting this film at women seeming as the main characters are female and the general appearance of the film makes it seem like a chick-flick e.g. light colours and the use of purple. The fact that the two women in the poster are wearing each others clothes would suggest that it’s a comedy seeming as the way in which they try to fit into each others roles would be quite funny. There facial expressions suggest that the film is also a drama seeming as their shocked emotions really come through in the poster. The contrast in the characters clothes also suggests that it could be a drama seeming as opposites generally cause drama. Both Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are both starts that had established themselves long before they were on Freaky Friday. This fact makes the film a USP seeming as the stars will attract audiences to watch the film, seeming as Jaime Lee Curtis is more familiar to older audiences, while Lindsey Lohan is familiar with younger audiences. The line “get your freak on August 1st” entices audiences and reemphasises the comedic element of the film and the title of the film at the same time.
