The Pros And Cons Of The Internet
Today's society lives online. People of all ages around the world use websites like Facebook,
Instagram, Snapchat, and Youtube, along with countless other sites that encourage the use of digital
sharing. Almost everywhere, people are glued to their phones or computers, communicating with
friends and family via the Internet. With all of the different social media outlets and
communication–based websites that are available in today's world, it's no surprise that people are
inclined to share their opinions mainly on the world wide web. But other forms of sharing exist too,
just to not as great of an extent. Some more common examples would be newspaper articles,
television shows, and radio. Sometimes, these opinions mentioned can be worthwhile and foster
continuous learning. Other times, these opinions can be deleterious because they fall victim to many
fallacies and ignorance. While the ability for people to state their opinions whenever and wherever
can be beneficial to society, it is generally detrimental and causes more harm than good. Some
opinions can be beneficial to society, because they can foster learning and provide other point of
views. This is demonstrated in news articles and online forums, for example. In an article by the
Washington Post's Editorial Board titled "Don't be Relieved Only Five People Died in California. Be
Enraged," it focuses around the opinion that gun control should be stronger regulated by the
government. While gun control is a controversial

Thomas Friedman’S Introduction Started With A Brief History
Thomas Friedman's introduction started with a brief history of how we found out that the world is
round. He then went from talking about the 1400s to the present time and finished his paragraph
with "The world is flat." (Pg.33). Obviously, we all know that the world is round, so this caught my
attention because I wanted to understand what he was about to explain. He spoke about how
technology and globalization changed people's lives and many people didn't realize it. His first two
paragraphs were difficult for me to understand because I was mainly visualizing the historic events.
And I couldn't see how he related globalization to the earth being round or flat.
In Friedman's globalization analyses, he was referring in a general aspect ... Show more content on

Businesses now work more effective and cheap due to the competitive prices of resources that have
become more easily accessible. In the business sector a globalization effect that has personally
affected me is the advancement in transportation. We have jet engines, container ships that move
product from country to another. Depending on which perspective I'm seeing through globalization,
it is either a pro or a con. If I see transportation globalization as an employee then it is a con for
myself, because jobs are being given to people in other countries for less. Then from a consumer
perspective, I benefit from transportation globalization because now the product is cheaper and now
I am paying less.
On a daily basis transportation globalization affects me on a more personal level. For example, when
I order something online and the store doesn't have the item on stock then they will use the internet
to strategize supply and demand to a certain area. And then as soon as I order my item, the store will
instantly deliver my item either to my shipping address or to the closest store available to me.
Another way that transportation globalization affects me directly is through the use of mobile
applications such as Uber and Lyft. Through the use of these applications, I can get transportation
rides from one destination to another. We have rental vehicles at our commodity and there is even a
specific mobile application where we can rent another person's vehicle

Many of the biggest startups of our time were started by a group of people rather than a single one.
Jobs had Wozniak, Gates had Allen, and Page had Brin to help them out. The fact that some of the
smartest people in the world needed help to accomplish their dreams is the reason that I have chosen
to apply to these honors programs. My goal in life is to change the world and create a startup not for
money or fame, but to improve society to the extent as some of these huge companies. Imagine a

I thought that I was gonna be the next Einstein. I was going to disprove everything that humanity
knows about science. However, this all changed when my family and I flew across the Pacific Ocean
to visit family in Vietnam. Once we got there I wondered how we could cross the Pacific if the
world ends right there. Soon after, I went on the internet and searched up if the Earth is flat and the
overwhelming answer surprised me. Other than a few websites such as The Flat Earth Society wiki
which gave many outlandish explanation for their point of view, most of the websites revealed to me
that contrary to my belief , the Earth was not actually flat, but rather round. Even still, I was not
convinced as I still believed that everything should be sliding if the Earth was round. However, after
researching more about this topic, I learning about how friction is the reason why everything stays
in place, and thus, I finally understood why everyone thought the Earth was round.

What Are the Arguments for and Against the Idea That the...
The world is ever changing and has been that way even before humans dominated Earth. However,
what we are interested in for this topic is in the last few decades where globalization has had an
impact in the early 21st century, making the world "flat". The phrase that the world has become flat
is a metaphor for viewing the world level in terms of commerce and competition, meaning a level
playing field where everyone has an equal opportunity. However, opinions are divided on how much
globalization has actually impacted the world as a whole. Critics argue that Friedman's term "flat" is
grossly exaggerated as his view is from an American perspective. This paper investigates major
arguments for both sides.

The falling of the Berlin Wall in November 9, 1989 signifies that the world has become a single
space without barriers that prevents or slows down international business (Friedman, 2005). In
addition, countries that had followed the Soviet economic model, including India, China, Russia and
the nations of Eastern Europe, Latin America and Central Asia, began to open up their economies to
the world. This in Friedman's view made countries more integrated and "similar"

Flat Earth Society
In recent news, a new community has outwardly spoken on the theory, the earth is flat. This
community calls themselves "The Flat Earth Society" or "Flat Earthers". This began around the
mid–20th century and has rapidly grown with the expansion of social media, and influencers such as
rapper B.o.B and basketball player Shaquille O'Neal.
This society believes that the Earth is a flat disk, similar to the United Nations Flag (Figure 1),
where the sun works as a spotlight to create night and day.(Figure 2) The Sun revolves around the
north pole and changes position when creating the seasons.
We have learned in basic K–12 schooling that the Earth is spherical in shape. The earliest recording
of this concept was c. 6th century BCE in ancient

Organizational Analysis At Creative Colors
Organizational Analysis at Creative Colors Being hired by the owner of Creative Colors to give
advice about how to proceed on cost implements for the owners business takes time and to do this
one would need to; describe how one would go about analyzing the organizational hierarchy to
make recommendations about which managerial positions should be cut. What organizational design
principles will one consider in one's analysis? How will one balance the need for the company to
downsize with the understanding that many employee positions require specialized knowledge?
How will one ensure that the appropriate levels of authority and control are maintained and that
adequate levels of employee supervision are ensured? What ethical considerations will be needed to
keep in mind when making decisions about which managers will lose their jobs? By going over
areas of concern one should be able to give a rationale for the decision–making process and be able
to give the recommendations to the owner of Creative Colors.
Organizational hierarchy
Being able to organize an analyses of an organizational hierarchy one needs to use organizational
charts, set up a department meeting with managers, executive and creative colors board members,
and survey each department managers to find out where the organizational structure will need to be
changed. After each process is completed then a detailed statement can be sent out to provide
suggestions to improve the Creative Colors. By analyzing

Thomas L. Friedman 1. What is it about the flat world that both excites Friedman and fills him with
dread? Friedman gets excited because the flattening of the world means that we as people who
inhabit Earth are collecting all of our knowledge and putting it together into this worldwide network.
By doing this we would start to emerge ourselves in an era of prosperity, innovation, and
collaboration, by company's communities, and individuals. Friedman states that is if terrorism and
politics do not get in the way. The flattening of the world also fills him with dread both on a
personal and professional level. On a more personal level it fills him with dread ... Show more

Why should we as Americans become good at it? Why should we focus on our personal "value–
add?" The "touchy feely" service stuff is the more intimate type of service and relationships you
have or offer your client on a more personal level rather than have it be professional all the time. We
as Americans, should be relatively good at this because as the book states "anything that can be
digitized can be outsourced to either the smartest or the cheapest producer, or both." Meaning the
more technical work can be taken over to for instance, India, where someone will do that work for
you, which gives you more freedom to connect with your clients. We should focus on our "value–
add" because that is what you as an individual bring to your company. 5. How are the journalism
and fast food industries becoming flat? Journalism and fast food industries are becoming more "flat"
because they were two of the few jobs that didn't need outsourcing help or hadn't been modified to
include outsourcing, until now. With journalism you have stuff going on like the Reuters operation.
"Work gets done where it can be done most effectively and efficiently." These types of professions
are slowly changing to be more likely to start allowing outsource work, which ultimately gives the
American workers more free time for "sophisticated work". These two jobs are not immune to
outsourcing. You pull up to a drive through and think the person inside is taking your order but they

The Flat Earth Theory
Advancements in communication via channels such as the internet have allowed for many false
scientific theories to become increasingly popular in today's society. These theories have become
widespread and intertwined with common beliefs to the point where many of them are now
synonymous with actual theories. The flat earth theory is a claim that suggests the earth isn't a three–
dimensional sphere, but instead a flat, two–dimensional circle (Flat Earth). The theory of plate
tectonics outlines how continental drift occurs as a result of the lithosphere consisting of plates that
are able to move along on top of the asthenosphere as well as what occurs in the mantle to cause the
formation of these plates (Van Andel and Murphy, 1). Pseudoscientific ... Show more content on

When plate tectonic theory was first conceived with the continental drift theory in 1919, there was
some controversy regarding the evidence found and the theory was not accepted. Many
distinguished scientists including Harold Jeffreys believed that the new theory was false and refused
to lend it support. However, evidence had been found by the 1960's that showed oceanic crust is
magnetic and could therefore confirm seafloor spreading, and continental drift (Richardson). On the
other hand, the Bedford Level Experiment can be used to show the limitations of the flat earth
theory again, as it showed that proponents of the theory refused to believe that it was incorrect.
Instead of trying to reconfirm this data through proper research or conducting a similar experiment
somewhere else in the world, believers of a flat earth denied the unsupportive evidence and clung to
the few supportive points they had (Richardson). By being critical of one's own theory and actively
searching for both supportive and unsupportive evidence, scientific theories can be strengthened and
advanced. Oppositely, theories of pseudoscience are forgotten and become irrelevant as time goes on
because of the search for selective evidence and minimal effort in trying to disprove them. This
characteristic allows legitimate scientific theories to be easily identified

Applying The World Is Flat to Canada
Title: The World is Flat – Canada and the Flat World There are many challenges and opportunities
that the Flat World has provided and allowed for in the world we live today. Canada needs to be
prepared for this Flat World. The following hopefully explores just that. 1. How has/does a flat
world impact world trade and Canada. The flat world, with the advent of advancements and
exposure to technology, infrastructure, culture, cost, education, political change and ideology has
changed both World Trade and Canada has a whole. The flat world has changed a traditional top–
down (vertical) type command and control to a horizontal one (collaborate and connect), in our
global economy. This in turn impacts the World and Canada. ... Show more content on

The approach described in the book is excellent one, to establish and emphasize in education. It
focuses on four strategies. 1) The ability to 'learn how to learn' be inspired and love doing it. 2) Be
passionate and curious. Having strong combination of curiosity quotient and passionate quotient
would foster motivation, innovation and creativity, and thus self education in turn developing the
individual's intelligence quotient. 3) Development of strong interpersonal/interactive skills. This
shall allow for strong interactions with other people within the collaborative world. 4) Development
of the right–hemisphere of the brain, which addresses relationship skills, and creativity, and 'seeing
the big picture'. An area that I would also emphasize in education that is not really focused on is
financial education. Being able to understand and interpret how the economic and financial aspects
of the global marketplace work would be a very strong asset to students. This includes
understanding financial reporting, investment strategies, and application of financial well being (i.e.
minimization of debt, asset acquisition and allocation, etc.). In terms of de–emphasizing teaching
activities I would address some minimization of low–skill type elective courses which may
potentially detrimental for student growth and development. 5. What are the specific challenges for
Managers to be better equipped to work in a flat world?

That which Is Accepted as Knowledge Todays Is Sometimes...
Human beings are much of a strange creature – many are attracted by what the majority of the
population accepts as "knowledge" and follow this path for many years without asking themselves
the
reason why it is said to be that way. Others prefer completing their own "knowledge" by referring to
an
entity which is thought to be superior to all the living on Earth. Then there are those which are open
minded, which stand out from the crowd, whose own curiosity takes the lead into finding out the
secrets of the world. What the question is implying, is the fact that sometimes a statement is said to
be a
fact, a principle or the truth, entering our own classification of "knowledge". On the other hand, this
could also be "discarded" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was simply because they based
their idea on their present evidence; it was not just a matter of 'how it looks', as the Earth looks
chaotically bumpy, with hills, cliffs, mountains and much more. It was another way of looking at the
Earth which raised the idea of it being flat. This was by looking at the "curvature" of the planet's
surface over a considerable length; how much does the Earth deviate (on average) from perfect
flatness.
The flat–Earth theory would make it seem that the surface doesn't deviate from flatness at all, that its
curvature is 0 per mile. The actual curvature of the Earth is on average 0.000126 per mile (being it
not
perfectly spherical), a quantity very close to 0 per mile, and certainly not easily measured by the
equipment used by the ancients. The very small difference accounts for the fact to why it took so
long
to pass from the flat Earth to the round Earth. It is also however essential not to discard this
scientific
evidence as the Earth could not be mapped over large areas without extreme accuracy, and long
voyages can't be undertaken with any reasonable way of locating one's own position unless the Earth
is
considered round rather than flat. Hence, although the flat–Earth theory is only slightly wrong in
small
dimensions, it is enough to be discarded in favour of the round–Earth theory.
As previously stated, not all theories have an absolute 'right' or 'wrong', however, is there such an

Global Interdependence
As technology of the past gives way to the technology of the future, the world is becoming a smaller
and smaller place. In economic terms, Global Interdependence is increasing as time goes on. In
other words, we as the United States, as well as other countries, rely on each other for the three
factors of production, Land, Labor and Capital. As noted in Thomas L. Freidman's book, The World
is Flat, there are several instances in which the Global Interdependence started. For example, the
introduction of the Internet created a common forum in which people could connect to each other

This is described as the Most Favored Nation rule, or MFN for short. They cannot set a certain tariff
on one good from a nation then set a higher one on a different nation. This promotes non–
discrimination between countries. In addition to MFN, the WTO also provides National Treatment.
This asks countries to give the same benefits that it would give to its domestic products, to foreign
products. National Treatment and MFN are simply put, cornerstones of all international trade. The
World Trade Organization is an integral part of Globalization due to its policies of fair and balanced
trade between countries of greater affluence and countries of less prosperity.
Although there are many organizations that help further Globalization, Many smaller corporations
help too. For example, many auto Industries, although their headquarters is located on foreign soil,
will build factories on domestic ground. Take BMW as an illustration, a company based in Munich,
Germany, opened a new Factory in Spartanburg South Carolina. This cuts down on costs of
transportation and labor. In addition to BMW, other companies such as Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, and
Mercedes have constructed multiple factories in America. As a result, these companies can price
their cars less steeply than other companies that have to ship cars from foreign soil. Foreign
companies aren't the only ones building plants across America. American companies such as Ford

Hot Flat And Crowded Summary
Hot, Flat, and Crowded written by Thomas L. Friedman examines our need to become a sustainable
country in not just the environment, but also in our financial markets. Friedman argues that the
world is getting hot as a result of global warming (8). Our planet's average temperature is rising. The
increase can be attributed to humans and their use of large scale manufacturing that began with the
Industrial Revolution when manual labor was starting to be replaced by machinery (68). Friedman's
next argues that world is getting flat due to the increase in high consuming middle classes brought
on by technological, market and geopolitical events (8; 66). The combination of several factors
including the invention of personal computers and the Internet, changes in transmission protocols,
collapse of Communism, the Berlin Wall, and the Soviet Union led to ... Show more content on

When flat and crowded intersect you get the energy supply and demand problem. David Douglas, a
chief sustainability officer for a corporation used this analogy: if you give 1 billion people a 60 watt
incandescent light bulb and they all use their light bulbs four hours a day, that's 10,000 watts at any
given moment. You would still need about twenty new 500 megawatt coal burning plants just so the
next 1 billion people can turn on their lights (68). We also have to keep in mind that burning coal
releases CO2 and other pollutants into the air which then effects global warming. We have now
brought in the concept of hot. Friedman also gives the example of the cities Doha and Dalian who
have rapidly grown sprouting a "mini Manhattan" leading to much higher energy consumptions. He
called this high consumption an "America lifestyle" saying that affluenza, the "unsustainable
addition to economic growth was spreading all over the world

The flat she shared was in the middle of a block, in the slum infested ethnic area where the air often

altercations. After each incident, one the girls ran to the matron and lied to win favor with the

Looking over the hills, Ava observed the lightening flickering in the distance. But, something was
odd. The lightening was more of a volatile corrosive shade. A flicker of deep red. And then, it turned

A low rumble, almost as if she was hearing symphonic drums, caught her attention. But, the rumble
seemed steadier. It turned into sharper sounds. Sounds of explosions. And a rapidly moving rise in
pressure. There was another low rumble. Then, quiet. Followed by a wave of pressure and sharper
sounds of explosions. Then, a corrosive sulfide color and smell. She had a sense, a feeling maybe, of
disbelief until the dust of the rubble powdered the air and her.
She felt like she had gotten hit by a moving vehicle. Thrown into the side of the building, she felt as

The Consequences Of Globalization
The Effects of Globalization Globalization is communication among the people, businesses, and
governments of different countries. It has caused massive changes to the world because of all the
downsides that is has. Globalization is currently a controversial issue because some people think it's
a good thing, but some people think it's a bad thing. It means something different to everyone. The
consequences of globalization have been mostly bad because lower–skilled workers got lower
wages, had to work more, and had poor working conditions. Also, it causes environmental
devastation and health issues. Although globalization can be bad, it can also be good because
everybody involved can be developed even if their countries are losing jobs because of the
developing world. The consequences of globalization have been mostly bad because lower–skilled
workers had to work more, got lower wages, and worked in poor conditions. According to The True
Cost film, the garment workers in Bangladesh make $2 per day. This shows that the workers there
are paid very little even though they work in poor conditions. Also, according to The True Cost film,
garment workers in Cambodia took the streets to demand a wage of at least $160. This also shows
that workers are paid very little and clearly want a higher minimum wage because of it. Also
according to The True Cost film, the Rana Plaza factory collapsed and hundreds died. This happened
because the building was structurally unsafe. This

The earth is round due to the fact that when we look up into space, we can see that the other planets
are round, so we can infer that earth must be round as well. Another reasoning can be how we have
time zones, which means the sun hit different places at different times on earth. The sun also travels
lower when you get away from the equator. At night, the stars change when you go from north to
south. Lastly, during a solar eclipse, the shadow of the earth on the moon is curved.
The idea of a flat earth came from pre–state cultures, such as ancient Greece. Homer had described a

Christopher Columbus Motives
"In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue." This phrase is perhaps one of the most well known

behind the expedition. No one ever asks themselves deeply on why Christopher Columbus was able
to make the voyage in the first place. The answer is always by the book, which is "He recieved
funding by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella." Not a single person asks themselves on why he
was chosen specifically to go on this voyage. That is why I am writing this paper. I will give the
motives that drove this expedition. Before a proper explanation can be given, there must be a
background to give the reader a brief glimpse of who the man Columbus was. Columbus was born
in Genoa, Italy in 1451. Columbus also was the child of a pair of two wool merchants. Columbus,
during his early years worked on a merchant ship. Afterwards, Columbus sought out a higher
education in the fields of cartography, navigation, and astronomy. These topics that he learned later
would fuel his ambition for exploration . After receiving permission to explore, he began his journey
for fame and gold. Initially, Columbus planned to sail from more foreign ports such as England and
Portugal, but was denied. Then, he sought patronage from Spain, who had an interest in his plan.
One motive of the spaniards was to find a quicker, more free route to India. This was their main
goal. However, the Spaniards did not want to lose

Disadvantages would be that all staff would not be able to communicate back to manage in terms
that all staff cannot answer back to the decision that has already decided. Also the paths for
promotion are less well defined as there are fewer levels compared to hierarchical structure.
Objectives in which Sainsbury's hope to gain while using the flat organisational structure is that
where there is one line of communication between the manager and the operational staff it is easy
for work to be done and messages which are important or not that given on time and correctly

The disadvantages of this culture for Sainsbury's are that if there is a miscommunication between

Yesterday I got a new neighbor. He says he is a member of the flat earth society. But he is very

the earth is not flat. Then he will not be a member of the flat earth society anymore and he can go
prove to his friends that it is not flat. Well to start off, Earth is round and everyone knows that. The
earth was formed from clouds and dust which created stars and other things. The earth's core was
made first because it was like winds were swirling around with all this dust. The gravity started to
pull everything together and then the earth was made. Then the earth's crust was made. Gravity is
the reason why the earth is a sphere. The earth is round because all the sides have to be equal if you
were to measure from the center. And if you were to measure it from the center then it would be the
same length all the way around in anyway that you measured it. Flat Earth Society members believe
the earth is flat because they walk on it and because it looks and feels flat. But did they ever look at

Analysis Of Richard Florida's The World Is Spiky:...
Richard Florida's article "The World is Spiky: Globalization Has Changed the Economic Playing
Field, But Hasn't Leveled It," is a response to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman's claim
that globalization has caused the earth to become "flat." Friedman argues that technology has made
it possible to "innovate without having to emigrate" (Friedman, 590). Richard Florida argues that no
matter how you measure it, economically, the world is far from flat– instead it consists of a select
few tall peaks surrounded by small hills and valleys. Florida describes three types of cities: peaks,

"manufacture the world's established goods... they are prosperous but insecure"; and valleys, that

creative people had to travel to Silicon Valley and be absorbed into its innovative ecosystem before
their ideas became economically viable." Florida argues that "Such ecosystems matter, and there

Earth Is Flat Essay
A YouTube video published by YouTube user Jeranism calls out government and NASA. The video
also questions the Earth as a flat surface, rather than a spherical globe as we all have been taught
since childhood. The YouTube video also shows ISS live feed from NASA, as well as pre–packaged
videos released by NASA and the government. Jeranism claims that the Earth is flat, and anyone
who sides with those beliefs either works for the CIA or is paid by some other association with an
alternative agenda. Is the Earth actually flat? Could the spherical globe we all spun in classrooms be
the biggest sham ever? Probably not, but the video brings up a few interesting questions.
Are NASA and the Government Lying?
Well, it is tough to say, since the majority of us have yet to travel off the planet on a SpaceX mission
to Mars. The YouTube video shares a few flat–earther points of view. One major point flat–earthers
make is the relevance to the human senses. Many flat–earthers believe that the Earth being flat
simply makes more sense. The YouTube commentary details how walking on Earth is a more flat
experience sense wise. We don't feel spinning, which can be attributed to gravity, or lies about
gravity. NASA and the government definitely have their secrets, but the earth being flat seems to be

The World Is Flat : Globalization Of Economy Essay
The World Is Flat: Globalization of Economy The world is flat again, but it has nothing to do with
the whether or not the Earth is spherically shaped. This analysis has to do with the globalized 21st
century world we live in and how we navigate the business world which now includes access to
information, culture, politics and economy from all the nations of the world. It's a notion that is both
exciting and scary if you think about it, as author Thomas L. Friedman writes in his book The World
Is Flat. Friedman is an expert on the nuances of globalization and is noted for his writings for The
New York Times, winning the Pulitzer Prize three times as their foreign affairs columnist. In 2005
The World Is Flat was given the first Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the
Year Award. In his book he writes about how we got to this point of globalization, and further
explains the importance of a number of important factors that facilitate business globalization. He
calls these factors "Flatteners," which include work flow software, outsourcing, offshoring, supply
chaining and the effects of globalization for developing countries and those already showing up in
great force on the global economic playing field.
The reader sees that there are ten forces discussed that play a role in the flattened world. One of top
importance he mentions is Flattener #5 –Outsourcing, which a tactic used by large American
corporations to slim down costs by outsourcing parts of its

Dysfunctional Model In Children
The purpose of this research is to explore child development by investigating children's
understanding about the structure of the earth. This main focus is to establish an understanding
about mental models created by children and discover how these concepts change in association
with age and gender. According to Vosniadou and Brewer (1992), mental models are dynamic in
nature, generated by children in response to questions asked and used to detect their perceptions of
the earth. Mental models are categorized to be naïve, synthetic or scientific. Naïve models are
believed to be an outcome of everyday experience; synthetic models to be formed to deal with the
irregularity between the flat earth and spherical model while scientific models are the ... Show more

The researchers conducted a questionnaire to 60 children (20 first graders, 20 third graders and 20
fifth graders) in order to investigate children's instinctive comprehension of the earth and how this is
modified following the introduction of the spherical model. It was concluded within their study that
developing children experience a consistent change from the initial model to the complex spherical
model and thus, produce substitute models within this process in order to adjust factual information
and preconceptions. A recent study by Straatemeier, Van der Mass and Jansen (2008) opposed
Vosniadou and Brewer's view by concluding that children's conceptual models are fragmented rather
than systematic. The children within their study did show a greater percentage of scientific
knowledge of the earth at older age however they demonstrated high constancies in their responses,
thus it was inferred that children's knowledge occurs piece by piece. This study confirms that
children develop clearer understanding at an older age however it also portrays that the nature of the
knowledge acquired still remains

Essay about Essential Tool for Musicians: The Circle of...
The circle of 4th's and 5th's,what is it well it is a diagram which is an essential tool that musicians
use. It is one of the most known and most important thing used in music today. The circle of 4th's
and 5th's can be used to find lot's of things in music like chord substitution or determining the best
transition. And other things too but the circle also make some stuff much easier. The circe is used by
many famous musicians, and even people who aren't musicians but just like to play music. The circle
is an essential in music without it we probably wouldn't have some of the music that we have today.

the circle is there some people who call it different things. Some people call it the Circle of Fourths

right you can call it either, it the same thing. You can call it Fourths, Fifths you can even just call it
the circle if you want. How do find scales using the circle of 4ths and 5ths, well we find them by
using the formula. which is (WWHWWWH), which means whole, whole, half, whole, whole,
whole, half. And after that you start on a key. From that key you will be following the formula. So it
is pretty easy you are just following some steps, and after you are done following all the steps you
will have the answer, it super simple and super easy. Something else you might want use while you
are finding scales is a keyboard, like the one you see below. piano–keyboard.gif So if you want to
find the key of G, you would use the keyboard with the formula (WWHWWWH). And how you
would do it would be, you go from the G to A, whole note, next would be A to B, whole note. Next
B to C ,half note, next would be C to D, whole not; after that D to E, whole note. And you would

Final Report Real Time Interactive Group Project
Final Report Real Time Interactive group project
Introduction
For this report the process of creating the game Chased by Snakes as a member of Danger Noodle
will be discussed.
Methodology
For this project it was decided by the group to use a flat management structure, and to follow a
system akin to free development. This method meant that none of the group was the project manager
and instead the thing keeping people on track was their self–motivation to complete the project. To
aid with completing the project at the start of the project a list of work was set out from the
requirements, and then each member of the group picked the tasks that they could complete for the
year. The main reason such a free and unstructured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem is that this method requires everyone to have high motivation if they want to
complete the project to a high standard and a as the group is small a few unmotivated people can
bring the whole project down. The group did have motivation problems during the middle of the
project with some group members not producing any work. The motivation could have been reduced
if the work been assigned one at a time instead of all at the start allowing people to focus on one
thing at a time and seeing the list of work get smaller.
A problem with using this flat management with free development is that there are not a lot of
examples to follow with many companies using agile. It seems that this flat management is new to
the games industry and so the group might make some mistakes that others can learn from in the
future who want to use the same structure. There are however some companies that do, valve uses a
flat management structure and so does Chucklefish games (Bithell , Sliwinski, & Orlowski , 2016)
(18:25–19:00). At Chucklefish the flat management works well as there is a small team of people
who are all self–motivated to complete the parts of the game they are working on. As we were

Effects and Prudence of Globalization
Globalization is a very controversial issue that has attracted massive attention in the past few
decades. Globalization has impacted people across the world in personal, social, political and
economic fields. The effects of globalization are numerous. People across one country today eat
from the same restaurants, wear the same clothes, speak the same language and drive the same car
as people from the opposite side of the globe. Instant communication with people is easier today
than ever. The consequences of this rapid globalization are subject to interpretation. People, in
general, tend to be biased about the net results of globalization. World leaders, however, have taken
tangible steps towards encouraging a peaceful globalization. ... Show more content on

Thus, people got fearful of losing the aspects they cherish in their particular identities like their
cultures, traditions and religions. This fear is noticed and observed by people across the world in
different shapes and forms, both physically and verbally. Pew Global Attitudes Project (2007) writes
that ''But there are widely shared concerns about the free flow of people, ideas and resources that
globalization entails.'' In other words, people are worried about the consequences of ease of entry for
foreign people, foreign ideas and foreign resources into the countries. Losing the culture and values
is a real threat to people's core identities. Consequently, this fear has occasionally led to violence,
regulatory defense mechanisms against free trade and strict censorship against foreign ideas
contained in books, movies and music.
Furthermore, globalizations has led to damage to the environment, but environmental dangers are
exaggerated. Given the mass level at which many companies operate, the production process
naturally requires more raw materials. This entails more trees being chopped, more oil manufactured
and more land used for construction. However, the media has, in many cases, inflated the
environmental concerns by using unscientific methods, inaccurate figures and biased footage to
inspire fear against globalization. Charles (2004) writes in his article "The Environmental Benefits

Is The Earth Flat Like A Globe?
Is the Earth flat like a piece of paper or round like a globe? This argument of which is the correct
answer has gone on since the time of the ancient Greeks. Both sides of this argument have their
supporters. Stanley Weinberg stated, "Many groups such as the Sumerians, Babylonians, ancient
Egyptians, early Hebrews, and some Greeks believed that the earth was flat." On the other hand,
most of society today believe that the Earth is round. In England during the 1850s, Samuel
Rowbothan founded the modern flat earth movement. Soon after Rowbathan's movement, he
published a book called Zetec Astronomy: Earth Not a Globe. His book confirms and explains how
the earth is flat instead of round. Three years after his book got published, Rowbothan passed away.
Even though he was no longer able to argue that the Earth was flat, his idea never died. Lady
Elizabeth Blount continued his theory and established the Universal Zetetic Society. The group's
purpose was to carry on the idea that the Earth was flat. The group slowly died down after World
War I. However, the idea did not die and soon the Flat Earth Society was formed to keep the theory

Why The Earth Is Flat?
The book I have chosen to read was "The earth is flat", by Thomas Friedman. This book began with
Mr. Freiedman coming to the realization that the world is flat, meaning that technology has provided
a level playing field across the world. He came to have this understanding while on a trip to India.
While there he realized that intellectual property and investments could be delivered straight to his
doorstep in America. Freidman also introduced the concept of globalization in chapter 1. This was
broken up into globalization 1.0 which lasted until around the 1800s and shrank the earth from large
to medium. Globalization 2.0 which lasted between 1800 and 2000 and made an even smaller world
through global integration and multinational companies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that America has always led the world with its innovation in these fields and with the loss
of so many trained individuals America would take a back seat to the rest of the world. He blames
this on what he refers to as Americas "dirty little secrets". Secret one was blames the generation that
was motivated by scientific advancements like landing on the moon, now going into retirement. The
second dirty little secret was the ambition gap. This is the fact that Americans often look down on
low prestige jobs like call center operator, while people from other countries look highly upon these
jobs. This can be attributed to so many Americans growing up with a sense of entitlement. The last
dirty little secret is the education gap. America used to be the country that all other countries sent
their kids to in order to get the best education, but as America's education system declines other
countries are increasing theirs. This has led to gifted individuals staying in their own countries

Flat Management And Transparency Worked For Them Essay
This post is inpsired by a post I found recently on inc.com
I found this title to be very intriguing. So much so that I decided to do some research as to why Flat
management and transparency worked for them.
So Here is why!
Introduction
Flat management is an organizational structure which eliminates intermediate executive levels and
their functions. In this, the top most level of management is in directly intertwined with frontline
customers, employees on the floor and salespeople. Undeterred by their breath, flat management can
be benefited from various advantages for the customer like faster response times and also other
customer preferences.
From increased productivity to faster decision–making, here are 5 compelling reasons as to why flat
or horizontal management could work for your company.
1. Focus on core Products:
With a flat management system there is more time to listen to your customers and their reviews on
the products. Thus giving you the feedback you need to refine your the product. With a Flat structure
you don 't have to deal with the nitty gritties of Human Resources or any issues related to it.
Departmental meetings are also not required. Staff meetings, however, should be conducted at least
once every week so that you can have a clear status about the state of the business. In this meeting
you get a good opportunity to discuss on ideas and techniques offering customer service
suggestions, content, new product features etc.

Thomas Friedman the author of "The World is Flat" a piece from the book The World is Flat: A brief

He refers to a term used by Samuel Huntington to describe the shifting of powers in the world.
Zakaria states that the international system is more accurately described by Samuel Huntington's
term "uni–multipolarity."(Zakaria 413) The meaning in this is that in coming new world that there
will be other countries that hold significant power with one superpower still remaining. Zakaria
remains optimistic that the United States will still hold the spot as the most powerful country even
as other countries rise, as long as the U.S. can accept the changes of no longer being the only
country with power and learn to compromise with other countries in order to succeed in what he
claims to be the post–American world. Zakaria shows concern for America if they are unable to
adapt. He states "The irony is that the rise of the rest is a consequence of American ideas and
actions."(418) By that Zakaria means that that the United States has pushed for other countries to
open up to new concepts concerning politics, trade, and technology and now that other countries
have embraced these ideas and America failed to use its own advice. Overall, Zakaria has a realistic
ideology of the effect globalization will have on The United States of America. On the other hand
Friedman sees globalization as a flattening of the world, a level ground for all countries to compete
for power, global knowledge, and advancement. His main emphasis is on the technology that we

Organizational behavior is the study of human and group behavior in organizations using methods
such as sociology, anthropology, psychology, and political science (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborn,
2005). This study also empowers leaders to understand, predict, and influence the behaviors of
workers. Furthermore, good leaders must also possess other qualities such as good communication
skills, an ability to understand the culture of an organization, and must be knowledgeable about
diversity in the workplace. Ress Asst (2012) describes diversity as the understanding of values and
characteristics of different people. In order to have a diverse working environment, managers must
be respectful, appreciative, and acknowledge the characteristics and ideas of individuals. Proper
management of diverse employees allows for companies to receive the benefits from different
talents and skills that employees are able to bring to the table. With diversity management,
employees of different backgrounds learn to understand that everyone is not the same. However,
with their differences, they are able to work together to get a job completed. This concept can be
easy for managers to implement and practice by educating employees, communicating effectively,
and enforcing how employees should treat each other.
Organizational behavior can also be defined as the knowledge discovered about how people behave

The Flat Earth Model During Europe's Dark Ages
There has been many models of the universe over time. During this paper, I will describe four of the
models, along with evidence and observations that supported them. One of the four models is the
flat earth model. This model is portrayed as a flat surface enclosed in a dome, where the sun, moon,
and stars move across the dome. The sky appears as merely a curtain to conceal the heavens. Some
observations that support this model are the fact that the earth does indeed appear flat when a person
looks at it, and the Sun and Moon arc across the sky. The flat earth model was created in the 12th
century during Europe's "Dark ages," and was heavily influenced by the bible and Catholic church.

brings about the study of globalization at its forefront. Moreover, Friedman analyzes the evolution
of business and importance of information with respect not only to the 21st century, but with regards
to the history of trade as we know it. It is from this study and understanding that Friedman engages
in a detailed thought process as to how an institution, government, or individual can remain
competitive in such a progressive environment. In summary, through engaging in the fifteen
chapters and recalling the historical events used as evidence, one may arrive at more substantial
conclusion as to how certain entities will remain ahead of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To explain with an example, Friedman gives the reader a story, stating "when I was growing up, my
parents told me, 'Finish your dinner. People in China and India are starving. ' I tell my daughters,
'Finish your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job ' (270). Apparent in this
personal example is the presence of two critical arguments of the text. First and foremost, the quote
draws a contrast between two generations and highlights the fact that they are in some respects,
exponentially different. Thus, Friedman is able to reinforce his claims of how rapidly changing the
world truly is. Secondly, he uses this example of drastic change occurring from one generation to the
next to reference on of the driving forces or catalysts. To clarify, the reference to China and India's
population as eager for a job opportunity indirectly reemphasizes the effects of the spread of
information as well as the strength of outsourcing. From this quote, the reader gathers that
individuals outside of their home state have the ability to do their job and will do so without ever
having to step into their country. Again, Friedman puts into context the vast contribution that the
web and other information sharing technologies have given the globe. Although there are more
detailed explanations and relevant evidence, this quote serves as a fairly strong summary of
Friedman's arguments in the first half of the text. Whereas the first half of Friedman's work aims to

Interpreting Concepts of The World Is Flat Essay
The phrase: "the world is flat" can be interpreted in many ways. Basically what Friedman means by
"flat" is "linked." The falling of trade and political barriers and technical advances have made it
possible to do business, instantaneously with billions of other people around the world. It has
allowed for parts of the world, which had previously been cut off, like China and India, to
successfully compete in the world market. Thus, the playing field is being leveled, and no one nation
has an advantage. Friedman could also refer to a "flat world" in a metaphorical sense. In a spherical

In the new global economy, the US may no longer easily dominate. As a result of the flat world, new
parts of the world are beginning to successfully compete. Two of the more powerful ones are India
and China. These emerging nations are now competing not just for low–wage manufacturing and
information labor but, increasingly, for the highest–end research and design work as well. As
Friedman mentions in his triple convergence, roughly 3 billion people from India, Russia, Eastern
Europe, Latin America and Asia are now joining this, "plug and play" world in which they can
basically compete and collaborate equally. While these nations certainly pose a threat to historical
U.S. and European prosperity and power, the proper response is not to fight it, but rather to embrace
it, in order to thrive in the new world.

Is the Earth flat?
Many Scientists knew the Earth was round centuries before humans took the journey into space. The
Greek astronomer, Eratosthenes in 200 B.C was aware that at noon on the first day of summer, the
sun in one city in Egypt passed directly overhead. However, on the same day in another city in
Egypt, vertical objects cast a shadow of seven degrees. If the Earth were flat, this observation
would've been hard to understand. But if the Earth were round, Eratosthenes reasoned, you could
use this information to figure out the Earth's circumference. [16] Another way in which science

First, NASA and Government do not publish the false information to raise money. At the beginning,
the author points out that "NASA and the U.S. government as a whole. NASA has been going to
incredible lengths to fool the world" (Feinberg). In her narration, she refutes all the information
from NASA from GPS, photos out of space, to the phenomenon of the lunar eclipse. She states,
"NASA do so much work to keep the truth hidden from the masses" (Feinberg), indeed, she properly
considers that there would be a bribe behind those facts from NASA. She assumed that NASA is

Pros and Cons of Living in Today's Digital World

  • 1. The Pros And Cons Of The Internet Today's society lives online. People of all ages around the world use websites like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Youtube, along with countless other sites that encourage the use of digital sharing. Almost everywhere, people are glued to their phones or computers, communicating with friends and family via the Internet. With all of the different social media outlets and communication–based websites that are available in today's world, it's no surprise that people are inclined to share their opinions mainly on the world wide web. But other forms of sharing exist too, just to not as great of an extent. Some more common examples would be newspaper articles, television shows, and radio. Sometimes, these opinions mentioned can be worthwhile and foster continuous learning. Other times, these opinions can be deleterious because they fall victim to many fallacies and ignorance. While the ability for people to state their opinions whenever and wherever can be beneficial to society, it is generally detrimental and causes more harm than good. Some opinions can be beneficial to society, because they can foster learning and provide other point of views. This is demonstrated in news articles and online forums, for example. In an article by the Washington Post's Editorial Board titled "Don't be Relieved Only Five People Died in California. Be Enraged," it focuses around the opinion that gun control should be stronger regulated by the government. While gun control is a controversial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Thomas Friedman’S Introduction Started With A Brief History Thomas Friedman's introduction started with a brief history of how we found out that the world is round. He then went from talking about the 1400s to the present time and finished his paragraph with "The world is flat." (Pg.33). Obviously, we all know that the world is round, so this caught my attention because I wanted to understand what he was about to explain. He spoke about how technology and globalization changed people's lives and many people didn't realize it. His first two paragraphs were difficult for me to understand because I was mainly visualizing the historic events. And I couldn't see how he related globalization to the earth being round or flat. In Friedman's globalization analyses, he was referring in a general aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Businesses now work more effective and cheap due to the competitive prices of resources that have become more easily accessible. In the business sector a globalization effect that has personally affected me is the advancement in transportation. We have jet engines, container ships that move product from country to another. Depending on which perspective I'm seeing through globalization, it is either a pro or a con. If I see transportation globalization as an employee then it is a con for myself, because jobs are being given to people in other countries for less. Then from a consumer perspective, I benefit from transportation globalization because now the product is cheaper and now I am paying less. On a daily basis transportation globalization affects me on a more personal level. For example, when I order something online and the store doesn't have the item on stock then they will use the internet to strategize supply and demand to a certain area. And then as soon as I order my item, the store will instantly deliver my item either to my shipping address or to the closest store available to me. Another way that transportation globalization affects me directly is through the use of mobile applications such as Uber and Lyft. Through the use of these applications, I can get transportation rides from one destination to another. We have rental vehicles at our commodity and there is even a specific mobile application where we can rent another person's vehicle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. My Honor Program Briefly describe why you have chosen to apply to the honors program(s) you've selected. Please limit your response to no more than 250 words. Many of the biggest startups of our time were started by a group of people rather than a single one. Jobs had Wozniak, Gates had Allen, and Page had Brin to help them out. The fact that some of the smartest people in the world needed help to accomplish their dreams is the reason that I have chosen to apply to these honors programs. My goal in life is to change the world and create a startup not for money or fame, but to improve society to the extent as some of these huge companies. I thought that I was gonna be the next Einstein. I was going to disprove everything that humanity knows about science. However, this all changed when my family and I flew across the Pacific Ocean to visit family in Vietnam. Once we got there I wondered how we could cross the Pacific if the world ends right there. Soon after, I went on the internet and searched up if the Earth is flat and the overwhelming answer surprised me. Other than a few websites such as The Flat Earth Society wiki which gave many outlandish explanation for their point of view, most of the websites revealed to me that contrary to my belief , the Earth was not actually flat, but rather round. Even still, I was not convinced as I still believed that everything should be sliding if the Earth was round. However, after researching more about this topic, I learning about how friction is the reason why everything stays in place, and thus, I finally understood why everyone thought the Earth was round. Turing Scholars Describe your significant activities, employment, and achievements. Be sure to include information that is relevant to the study of computer science. However, what we are interested in for this topic is in the last few decades where globalization has had an impact in the early 21st century, making the world "flat". The phrase that the world has become flat is a metaphor for viewing the world level in terms of commerce and competition, meaning a level playing field where everyone has an equal opportunity. However, opinions are divided on how much globalization has actually impacted the world as a whole. Critics argue that Friedman's term "flat" is grossly exaggerated as his view is from an American perspective. This paper investigates major arguments for both sides. • 9. Flat Earth Society In recent news, a new community has outwardly spoken on the theory, the earth is flat. This community calls themselves "The Flat Earth Society" or "Flat Earthers". This began around the mid–20th century and has rapidly grown with the expansion of social media, and influencers such as rapper B.o.B and basketball player Shaquille O'Neal. This society believes that the Earth is a flat disk, similar to the United Nations Flag (Figure 1), where the sun works as a spotlight to create night and day.(Figure 2) The Sun revolves around the north pole and changes position when creating the seasons. What is it about the flat world that both excites Friedman and fills him with dread? Friedman gets excited because the flattening of the world means that we as people who inhabit Earth are collecting all of our knowledge and putting it together into this worldwide network. The "touchy feely" service stuff is the more intimate type of service and relationships you have or offer your client on a more personal level rather than have it be professional all the time. We as Americans, should be relatively good at this because as the book states "anything that can be digitized can be outsourced to either the smartest or the cheapest producer, or both." Meaning the more technical work can be taken over to for instance, India, where someone will do that work for you, which gives you more freedom to connect with your clients. We should focus on our "value– add" because that is what you as an individual bring to your company. 5. How are the journalism and fast food industries becoming flat? Journalism and fast food industries are becoming more "flat" because they were two of the few jobs that didn't need outsourcing help or hadn't been modified to include outsourcing, until now. With journalism you have stuff going on like the Reuters operation. "Work gets done where it can be done most effectively and efficiently." These types of professions are slowly changing to be more likely to start allowing outsource work, which ultimately gives the American workers more free time for "sophisticated work". These theories have become widespread and intertwined with common beliefs to the point where many of them are now synonymous with actual theories. The flat earth theory is a claim that suggests the earth isn't a three– dimensional sphere, but instead a flat, two–dimensional circle (Flat Earth). The theory of plate tectonics outlines how continental drift occurs as a result of the lithosphere consisting of plates that are able to move along on top of the asthenosphere as well as what occurs in the mantle to cause the formation of these plates (Van Andel and Murphy, 1). Pseudoscientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When plate tectonic theory was first conceived with the continental drift theory in 1919, there was some controversy regarding the evidence found and the theory was not accepted. Many distinguished scientists including Harold Jeffreys believed that the new theory was false and refused to lend it support. However, evidence had been found by the 1960's that showed oceanic crust is magnetic and could therefore confirm seafloor spreading, and continental drift (Richardson). On the other hand, the Bedford Level Experiment can be used to show the limitations of the flat earth theory again, as it showed that proponents of the theory refused to believe that it was incorrect. Instead of trying to reconfirm this data through proper research or conducting a similar experiment somewhere else in the world, believers of a flat earth denied the unsupportive evidence and clung to the few supportive points they had (Richardson). By being critical of one's own theory and actively searching for both supportive and unsupportive evidence, scientific theories can be strengthened and advanced. Oppositely, theories of pseudoscience are forgotten and become irrelevant as time goes on because of the search for selective evidence and minimal effort in trying to disprove them. This characteristic allows legitimate scientific theories to be easily identified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Applying The World Is Flat to Canada Title: The World is Flat – Canada and the Flat World There are many challenges and opportunities that the Flat World has provided and allowed for in the world we live today. Canada needs to be prepared for this Flat World. The following hopefully explores just that. 1. How has/does a flat world impact world trade and Canada. The flat world, with the advent of advancements and exposure to technology, infrastructure, culture, cost, education, political change and ideology has changed both World Trade and Canada has a whole. The flat world has changed a traditional top– down (vertical) type command and control to a horizontal one (collaborate and connect), in our global economy. It focuses on four strategies. 1) The ability to 'learn how to learn' be inspired and love doing it. 2) Be passionate and curious. Having strong combination of curiosity quotient and passionate quotient would foster motivation, innovation and creativity, and thus self education in turn developing the individual's intelligence quotient. 3) Development of strong interpersonal/interactive skills. This shall allow for strong interactions with other people within the collaborative world. 4) Development of the right–hemisphere of the brain, which addresses relationship skills, and creativity, and 'seeing the big picture'. An area that I would also emphasize in education that is not really focused on is financial education. Being able to understand and interpret how the economic and financial aspects of the global marketplace work would be a very strong asset to students. This includes understanding financial reporting, investment strategies, and application of financial well being (i.e. minimization of debt, asset acquisition and allocation, etc.). In terms of de–emphasizing teaching activities I would address some minimization of low–skill type elective courses which may potentially detrimental for student growth and development. 5. Human beings are much of a strange creature – many are attracted by what the majority of the population accepts as "knowledge" and follow this path for many years without asking themselves the reason why it is said to be that way. Others prefer completing their own "knowledge" by referring to an entity which is thought to be superior to all the living on Earth. Then there are those which are open minded, which stand out from the crowd, whose own curiosity takes the lead into finding out the secrets of the world. What the question is implying, is the fact that sometimes a statement is said to be a fact, a principle or the truth, entering our own classification of "knowledge". It was another way of looking at the Earth which raised the idea of it being flat. This was by looking at the "curvature" of the planet's surface over a considerable length; how much does the Earth deviate (on average) from perfect flatness. The flat–Earth theory would make it seem that the surface doesn't deviate from flatness at all, that its curvature is 0 per mile. The actual curvature of the Earth is on average 0.000126 per mile (being it not perfectly spherical), a quantity very close to 0 per mile, and certainly not easily measured by the

Friedman examines our need to become a sustainable country in not just the environment, but also in our financial markets. Friedman argues that the world is getting hot as a result of global warming (8). Our planet's average temperature is rising. The increase can be attributed to humans and their use of large scale manufacturing that began with the Industrial Revolution when manual labor was starting to be replaced by machinery (68). Friedman's next argues that world is getting flat due to the increase in high consuming middle classes brought on by technological, market and geopolitical events (8; 66). You would still need about twenty new 500 megawatt coal burning plants just so the next 1 billion people can turn on their lights (68). We also have to keep in mind that burning coal releases CO2 and other pollutants into the air which then effects global warming. We have now brought in the concept of hot. It has caused massive changes to the world because of all the downsides that is has. Globalization is currently a controversial issue because some people think it's a good thing, but some people think it's a bad thing. It means something different to everyone. The consequences of globalization have been mostly bad because lower–skilled workers got lower wages, had to work more, and had poor working conditions. The answer is always by the book, which is "He recieved funding by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella." Not a single person asks themselves on why he was chosen specifically to go on this voyage. That is why I am writing this paper. I will give the motives that drove this expedition. Columbus also was the child of a pair of two wool merchants. Columbus, during his early years worked on a merchant ship. Afterwards, Columbus sought out a higher education in the fields of cartography, navigation, and astronomy. These topics that he learned later would fuel his ambition for exploration . After receiving permission to explore, he began his journey for fame and gold. Initially, Columbus planned to sail from more foreign ports such as England and Portugal, but was denied. Flatness is another way of describing the transnational search by companies for cheap labor, an image that misses the pervasiveness of global inequality and the fact that much of the developing world remains mired in poverty and misery. It also misses the importance of the global geopolitical hierarchy, which guarantees the provision of stability, property rights, and other international public goods. The rise of China and India is less about flatness than it is about dramatic upheavals in the mountains and valleys of the global geopolitical map" Question: Do you agree or disagree with this view by a critic, and to ... • 55. Effects and Prudence of Globalization Globalization is a very controversial issue that has attracted massive attention in the past few decades. Globalization has impacted people across the world in personal, social, political and economic fields. The effects of globalization are numerous. People across one country today eat from the same restaurants, wear the same clothes, speak the same language and drive the same car as people from the opposite side of the globe. Instant communication with people is easier today than ever. The consequences of this rapid globalization are subject to interpretation. People, in general, tend to be biased about the net results of globalization. World leaders, however, have taken tangible steps towards encouraging a peaceful globalization. ... This fear is noticed and observed by people across the world in different shapes and forms, both physically and verbally. Pew Global Attitudes Project (2007) writes that ''But there are widely shared concerns about the free flow of people, ideas and resources that globalization entails.'' In other words, people are worried about the consequences of ease of entry for foreign people, foreign ideas and foreign resources into the countries. Losing the culture and values is a real threat to people's core identities. Consequently, this fear has occasionally led to violence, regulatory defense mechanisms against free trade and strict censorship against foreign ideas contained in books, movies and music. Furthermore, globalizations has led to damage to the environment, but environmental dangers are exaggerated. Given the mass level at which many companies operate, the production process naturally requires more raw materials. This entails more trees being chopped, more oil manufactured and more land used for construction. However, the media has, in many cases, inflated the environmental concerns by using unscientific methods, inaccurate figures and biased footage to inspire fear against globalization. Both sides of this argument have their supporters. Stanley Weinberg stated, "Many groups such as the Sumerians, Babylonians, ancient Egyptians, early Hebrews, and some Greeks believed that the earth was flat." On the other hand, most of society today believe that the Earth is round. In England during the 1850s, Samuel Rowbothan founded the modern flat earth movement. Soon after Rowbathan's movement, he published a book called Zetec Astronomy: Earth Not a Globe. His book confirms and explains how the earth is flat instead of round. Three years after his book got published, Rowbothan passed away. Even though he was no longer able to argue that the Earth was flat, his idea never died. Lady Elizabeth Blount continued his theory and established the Universal Zetetic Society. The group's purpose was to carry on the idea that the Earth was flat. The group slowly died down after World War I. However, the idea did not die and soon the Flat Earth Society was formed to keep the theory alive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This book began with Mr. Freiedman coming to the realization that the world is flat, meaning that technology has provided a level playing field across the world. He came to have this understanding while on a trip to India. While there he realized that intellectual property and investments could be delivered straight to his doorstep in America. Freidman also introduced the concept of globalization in chapter 1. This was broken up into globalization 1.0 which lasted until around the 1800s and shrank the earth from large to medium. Globalization 2.0 which lasted between 1800 and 2000 and made an even smaller world through global integration and multinational companies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He blames this on what he refers to as Americas "dirty little secrets". Secret one was blames the generation that was motivated by scientific advancements like landing on the moon, now going into retirement. The second dirty little secret was the ambition gap. This is the fact that Americans often look down on low prestige jobs like call center operator, while people from other countries look highly upon these jobs. This can be attributed to so many Americans growing up with a sense of entitlement. The last dirty little secret is the education gap. Thus giving you the feedback you need to refine your the product. With a Flat structure you don 't have to deal with the nitty gritties of Human Resources or any issues related to it. Thomas Friedman the author of "The World is Flat" a piece from the book The World is Flat: A brief history of the twenty–first century published in 2005 also emphasizes on the same changes currently happening in the world. Zakaria states that the international system is more accurately described by Samuel Huntington's term "uni–multipolarity."(Zakaria 413) The meaning in this is that in coming new world that there will be other countries that hold significant power with one superpower still remaining. Zakaria remains optimistic that the United States will still hold the spot as the most powerful country even as other countries rise, as long as the U.S. can accept the changes of no longer being the only country with power and learn to compromise with other countries in order to succeed in what he claims to be the post–American world. Zakaria shows concern for America if they are unable to adapt. He states "The irony is that the rise of the rest is a consequence of American ideas and actions."(418) By that Zakaria means that that the United States has pushed for other countries to open up to new concepts concerning politics, trade, and technology and now that other countries have embraced these ideas and America failed to use its own advice. Overall, Zakaria has a realistic ideology of the effect globalization will have on The United States of America. • 67. The Flat Earth Model During Europe's Dark Ages There has been many models of the universe over time. During this paper, I will describe four of the models, along with evidence and observations that supported them. One of the four models is the flat earth model. This model is portrayed as a flat surface enclosed in a dome, where the sun, moon, and stars move across the dome. The sky appears as merely a curtain to conceal the heavens. Some observations that support this model are the fact that the earth does indeed appear flat when a person looks at it, and the Sun and Moon arc across the sky. The flat earth model was created in the 12th century during Europe's "Dark ages," and was heavily influenced by the bible and Catholic church. • 69. The World Is Flat, By Thomas L. Friedman The World Is Flat is a visionary and insightful text written by Thomas L. Friedman. In short, the text brings about the study of globalization at its forefront. Moreover, Friedman analyzes the evolution of business and importance of information with respect not only to the 21st century, but with regards to the history of trade as we know it. It is from this study and understanding that Friedman engages in a detailed thought process as to how an institution, government, or individual can remain competitive in such a progressive environment. In summary, through engaging in the fifteen chapters and recalling the historical events used as evidence, one may arrive at more substantial conclusion as to how certain entities will remain ahead of ... People in China and India are starving. ' I tell my daughters, 'Finish your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job ' (270). Apparent in this personal example is the presence of two critical arguments of the text. First and foremost, the quote draws a contrast between two generations and highlights the fact that they are in some respects, exponentially different. Thus, Friedman is able to reinforce his claims of how rapidly changing the world truly is. Secondly, he uses this example of drastic change occurring from one generation to the next to reference on of the driving forces or catalysts. To clarify, the reference to China and India's population as eager for a job opportunity indirectly reemphasizes the effects of the spread of information as well as the strength of outsourcing. From this quote, the reader gathers that individuals outside of their home state have the ability to do their job and will do so without ever having to step into their country. Again, Friedman puts into context the vast contribution that the web and other information sharing technologies have given the globe. Although there are more detailed explanations and relevant evidence, this quote serves as a fairly strong summary of Friedman's arguments in the first half of the text. The falling of trade and political barriers and technical advances have made it possible to do business, instantaneously with billions of other people around the world. It has allowed for parts of the world, which had previously been cut off, like China and India, to successfully compete in the world market. Thus, the playing field is being leveled, and no one nation has an advantage. Friedman could also refer to a "flat world" in a metaphorical sense. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the new global economy, the US may no longer easily dominate. As a result of the flat world, new parts of the world are beginning to successfully compete. Two of the more powerful ones are India and China. These emerging nations are now competing not just for low–wage manufacturing and information labor but, increasingly, for the highest–end research and design work as well. As Friedman mentions in his triple convergence, roughly 3 billion people from India, Russia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia are now joining this, "plug and play" world in which they can basically compete and collaborate equally. While these nations certainly pose a threat to historical U.S. and European prosperity and power, the proper response is not to fight it, but rather to embrace it, in order to thrive in the new world. The ten "flatteners" in The World is Flat are 11/9/89, 8/9/95, work flow software, uploading, outsourcing, offshoring, supply–chaining, insourcing, in–forming, and the steroids 11/9/89: The Berlin Wall for many years served as a barrier between West Berlin and East Germany. • 73. Argumentative Essay: Is The Earth Flat? Is the Earth flat? Many Scientists knew the Earth was round centuries before humans took the journey into space. The Greek astronomer, Eratosthenes in 200 B.C was aware that at noon on the first day of summer, the sun in one city in Egypt passed directly overhead. However, on the same day in another city in Egypt, vertical objects cast a shadow of seven degrees. If the Earth were flat, this observation would've been hard to understand. But if the Earth were round, Eratosthenes reasoned, you could use this information to figure out the Earth's circumference.
