2. For our audience research my group decided to use the twitter function of polls to
gather part of our audience research. We used my personal/fan twitter account as it
has the most followers of our group (3,000+) meaning we had a higher chance of
getting more people to answer/vote. All of the polls gathered around 500+ votes each
meaning we have got a large amount of opinions meaning our music package will be
much more representative of our target audiences opinions and desires. I made a
twitter poll thread (a list of linked tweets that, when you click one, display the linked
tweets above and below the clicked tweet) so it would be easier for people to answer
and find the polls. We decided to use twitter as part of our audience research as it is a
widely used social media that helps to connect people from all around the world
meaning our audience research was not just answered by people we know personally
from the UK, it was answered by people from all over the world no matter if we know
them or not. This means we get a much wider spectrum of answers and therefore a
better representation of what our audience would want from our music package.
3. How twitter polls work

4. Question 1
In question 1 we wanted to find out
what type of album our audience
wanted for the music package. The
most popular album option (81% of
575 people) was new full length
album. This shows that fans want
new songs to listen to. Therefore
this is the type of album we will
make.
5. Question 2
With this question we wanted to
know what our audience would
prefer on the digipak. The most
popular option (82% of 572 votes)
was song lyrics. This could be the
most popular answer because
many fans like to learn the lyrics of
songs so they can sing along. This
means we will include the lyrics of
the songs on the digipak.
6. Question 3
We asked whether our audience
would want a photo of the band or a
logo on the front of the album. The
most popular option (70% of 575
votes) was band photo. This shows
that our audience want to see the
band on the album possibly so they
can easily recognise the album and
who it is by. This means we will use a
picture of the band on the cover of the
album.
7. Question 4
Part of our music package is a DVD so
our group decided on a tour DVD but we
wanted to know what our audience would
like to see most on the tour DVD. The
most popular answer (66% of 561
people) was backstage footage. Normally
on a tour the only part fans will is the
onstage performance so this shows that
our audience want to see the backstage
parts of the tour that they cannot normally
see. It also offers a closeness between
the fans and the band as it shows things
that are normally only seen among the
band and their staff. This means we will
have backstage footage on our DVD.
8. Question 5
We are making a music video for our
music package so we decided to ask
what people like to watch best in
music videos (MVs). The most popular
answer (46% of 568 votes) was a
narrative throughout the MV. This
shows that our audience enjoy
watching a visual story with the music
to associate with the song. It also
means there is something to follow
throughout the video instead of just
compiled shots. This means we will
include a narrative in our MV.
9. Question 6
In this question we wanted to find out
where our audience watches MVs so
we knew what type of shots we should
use. The most popular answer (98% of
576 votes) was YouTube. This shows
that our audience use the internet to
watch MVs. This may also mean that
our audience watch MVs on their
phones and tablets because YouTube
has a widely used phone app. This will
mean that we will include tighter shots
and close ups as phones and tablets
have smaller screens therefore these
shots will be easier for the audience to
see.
10. Question 7
In this question we wanted to know if
our audience wanted the band in the
MV. The majority (95% of 533 votes)
want the band in the MV. This shows
that fans want to see the bands in MVs
possibly so they know who the song is
by. It also shows they want to watch
the band and how the interact with the
song. This means we will include the
band in the MV.
