To God be the Glory
For the last several weeks we have been focusing on
the fundamental principles that will keep us faithful
until Jesus returns. Today, we will discuss why we sing
in worship. One song that comes to mind is “To God
Be The Glory,” written by Fanny J. Crosby in 1872.
Crosby contracted an eye infection when she was just 6
weeks old which rendered her blind for the 94 years she
walked this earth. Glory is synonymous with brightness.
Crosby could see no light, yet she gave that part of her
life to God. To God be the Glory, even if it wasn’t seen
by her.
To God be the glory
Great things He has done
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life-gate that all may go in
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the earth hear His voice
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice
Come to the Father
Through Jesus the Son
Give Him the glory
Great things He has done
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood
To every believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives
Great things He has taught us, great things He has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our worship, when Jesus we see
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the earth hear His voice
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice
Come to the Father
Through Jesus the Son
Give Him the glory
Great things He has done
This hymn is one of over 8000 that Crosby wrote in her
lifetime. Hymns such as “All the Way My Savior Leads
Me,” “Safe in the Arms of Jesus,” “Rescue the Perish-
ing,” “I Am Thine O Lord, “Blessed Assurance,” “More
Like Jesus,” and “Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home.”
To God be the Glory for providing the world with Fanny
J. Crosby in it and allowing us to see what she could see
better than most.
