A Blind Leap
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you
read the date: 1492?
If youâre like me, you begin saying the rhyme: âIn
1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.â
This past Monday the United States recognized
Columbus Day. I was taught that in the year 1492, the
world was considered to be flat by the majority. I was
further taught that Columbus, with blind faith, sailed
west looking for a new route to the West Indies. My
understanding was that many believed he would fall
off the edge of the Earth.
I recently discovered that the first globe ever was also
invented in 1492! It is believed that this may have
influenced Columbus to go west. This means that his
western voyage was not a blind leap of faith, but rath-
er faith built by evidence.
We as Christians are not asked to trust God in a blind
leap of faith as we go into all the globe to reach the
lost.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders
obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand
that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so
that the things which are seen were not made of things
which are visible (Hebrews 11:1-3).
It was in the pursuit of spices that Christopher
Columbus discovered the New World, which was
something entirely different than his plans. Some
might consider his plan as a failure. However, what he
did discover changed the course of the round world.
As we walk by faith and not by sight, we might just
discover that God opens doors beyond our own
intentions or plans. He might even use our failures to
create His greatest triumphs.
The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD
establishes his steps (Proverbs 16:9).
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is
the purpose of the LORD that will stand (Proverbs
19:21).
When you walk out in faith, allow God to reveal a
new world to the next person that you meet.

Thank You
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude
for all of the cards and prayers that have been offered on
my behalf during my illness. God is GOOD and I know
your prayers have played a big part in my recovery.
Thank you! You all hold a special place in my heart.
