A Research Study On The Internet
YouTube posed somewhat of a question mark in my household when it came pre–downloaded onto
my mother's first iPhone in 2007. Only two years after its creation, the app's icon resembled a
brown, old fashioned TV– nothing like the vivid, red play button that is used now. My mum deleted
the app, convinced there was no need for it. I discovered just how wrong she was in March 2012
when at thirteen I turned to YouTube to learn how to sing 'On My Own' from Les Miserables for a
school competition. It was clear that I rarely used the internet as my research history on my small
but heavy pink laptop consisted of the welfare of Mekong dolphins (googled for a biology project)
and clairesaccessories.com. After watching an array of professional singers, I came across the wide
range of 'covers'– a new concept to me– that YouTube had on offer. Up until this point I thought the
internet was exclusive to celebrities; singers and movie stars and the occasional X Factor finalist,
but as I gazed into the small screen of my laptop, I saw girls within my age group, proudly
displaying themselves for anyone who wanted to see. First I watched a girl named Carrie Hope
Fletcher. She was eighteen and had blonde curls springing from her head in every direction, pulling
me into her channel, 'itswaypastmybedtime,' which was packed with different covers where she even
played the piano or guitar, and plastered in book reviews and Harry Potter references. She was like
the presenter of a TV show that had been

In 2013 over 52, 000 visitor bed nights were produced with an average spend of $1288 per visitor
group. The total amount that interstate visitors associated spending was $17.9 million. There was an
approximate value of $9 million with 2012 367,000 tickets being sold. Adelaide Fringe does not run
venues itself, aside from the Fringe Club. Nevertheless, what the Adelaide Fringe does do is
encourage and assist other venues to be artistically and financially successful as possible. This
includes assisting the grouping of artists with venues and providing scheduling, programming,
funding, marketing and publicity advice. One of the key operations of the Adelaide Fringe is to
support, encourage and assist registered artists. It works to guarantee that all of the artists and
presenters have the best possible experience from the beginning registration process to their
performances and exhibitions.
The Adelaide Fringe is a festival for the entire family, there are a range of people that attend and
they range from old to young and female and male. In 2013 the Adelaide Fringe took over the city
with 1.59 million people attending ticketed and free events. This resulted in an economic
expenditure of $48.2 million in the State. This is an increase of 18% compared to the 2011 results.
In 2013 the Adelaide Fringe was an enormous success with attendances of over 1.8 million people
enjoying everything the Fringe had to offer.

How Theater Changed My Life
The first time I walked on to the stage of my high school theatre I knew I was in my element.
Though as a 14 year, I could on the imagine how theatre would impact my life. Almost four years
later I have participated in 12 shows, three of which I worked as a crew member, and the other 9 as
an actress. My sophomore year I lived in Rome, Italy and discovered an English theatre program,
through this program I became friends with 15 Italian high school students and helped them learn
English while doing what I loved. The following year I moved back to my original high school in
America, and due to the cabler of the theatre department, I was able to travel Edinburgh, Scotland
and perform in the International Fringe Festival. This experience taught me dedication beyond
anything I could have ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discipline led me to be able to travel internationally and perform with my closest friends. Now
as a Senior I am a student director and will direct my own show in April. I am so fortunate I have
been provided with a program in high school that requires me to learn discipline leadership skills
without having to think about what I learning. Every day I learn how to work with people better and
how to be a leader without being told I am in a position of leadership. As you may have noticed, the
word "loved" is in the past tense in this short little essay. Just as situations and people come and go
in life, theatre is coming to an end in my life. I started off in theatre as a star–struck musical fanatic
and by my senior year, I am a "director". I realized everything I wanted from theatre has been
accomplished and therefore, it is time for me to close this chapter of my life a begin a new one. I
think that is the most rewarding part of this process. I will forever be rewarded with the memories
and experience theatre gave me and the ability to move

Tom Stoppard Analysis
Tom Stoppard and How Both Plays Imply a Similar Message
Philosophical Playwright Tom Stoppard was born Tomás Straüssler on July 3rd, 1937 in Zlín,
Czechoslovakia. He grew up in Singapore as well as in India during World War II. Stoppard's
Biological father was killed in Singapore, so instead of moving to England in the year of 1946 with
his mother and Father, his stepdad had filled the hole that was left by his father. Tom Stoppard's
education took place with schools in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. This was where he became a
journalist working for the Western Daily Press in 1954 through to 1980 as well as the Bristol
Evening World in 1958 through to 1960. In 1962 Stoppard became a theatre critic for Scene
magazine in London and also began writing plays for Television and Radio shows, including "The
Dissolution of Dominic Boot" in 1964, "A Walk on the Water", televised in 1963, and "The Stand–
Ins", which was later revised as "The Real Inspector Hound" in 1968. The play "Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern Are Dead", which was published in 1967, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
in 1966. This play had caught the attention of Kenneth Tynan, which brought recognition to the
National Theatre. Not only was it produced at the National Theatre but it was also produced at the
National in 1967 and on Broadway in 1967, winning a Tony Award for Best Play in America in
1968. In 1972, his play "Jumpers", was staged at the National Theatre and his adaptation of Lorca's

Personal Narrative: Burklyn Ballet Theatre
This past summer, I was lucky enough to travel with Burklyn Ballet Theatre to Edinburgh, Scotland,
and perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Each day after performing, my group would travel all
throughout Edinburgh and nearby cities, exploring nearby historical sites and castles as well as
attending performances, such as the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. After the dancing portion of the trip
had finished, my family met up with me and stayed for an extra three days. While visiting
Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, I became extremely intrigued with the
line of Scottish and English succession. More precisely, the merge between Scottish and English
monarchy with the rule of James the VI of Scotland/1st of England's Merger of the Crowns. Not

While walking to the train station from Linlithgow Palace, I noticed a mural of plaques portraying
the line of Scottish succession descending from the palace on a small bridge leading to the road. I
stopped my father to ask a question about how the line of descent transferred back to Sophia of
Hanover after Princess Anne's children had all died, which led to many more questions; my family
ended up standing on that bridge for forty–five minutes while my brothers and I eagerly listened to
all the stories my father explained about the monarchs. Throughout the remainder of the trip, my
father, who is also very fascinated with the history of English monarchy, discussed with me the
details of Mary I and her son's lives, how in the end she was beheaded by her own cousin, Elizabeth
the Ist of England. During my trip, I learned an extensive amount of Scottish history and how
closely related Scotland's history is with that of England. I continue to read books on the topic today.
I would love to visit London to finally experience more historical landmarks connecting to the kings
and queens of Scotland and

Live theatre review of Bouncers Essay
Bouncers; 17th of October at High Wycombe Swan Theatre.
Bouncers is a comical, yet serious dive into urban nightlife. The actors use multi–role to play a
variety of different characters with hilarious results. Throughout the updated version of the play,
John Godber (original writer and director) highlighted his intentions through Lucky Eric's daunting
monologues; we still drink too much as a society today. Nonetheless, the dated stereotypes and the
use of Frank Sinatra and 'Thriller' did make the play feel slightly dated.
The play list seemed to be the most updated part of Bouncers; the current music, including artists
like LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, Stooshe and Rihanna, was very popular with the predominately young
audience. The pace of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The steps used coming down the platform and going up was a great way for the actors to show their
characterisation; for example, Sexy Susie (Bhatti) had great trouble coming down the steps in her
killer heels whilst Ralph (Bhatti) took each step casually but eloquently.
Ilkley, Reddington, Bhatti and Gilet executed the Brechtian style of acting almost perfectly. They
immediately alienated the audience from feeling any kind of emotional connection to the characters;
we were introduced at the very beginning and were constantly reminded of who was who through
heightened gestures, vocal changes and direct address. However, Lucky Eric's daunting monologues,
delivered perfectly by Ian Reddington, gave us some sort of emotional connection with the play
itself. Godber uses Brecht's style for more of a comic effect as opposed to snatching away emotional
connection. The four actors changed from role–to–role excellently with clear characterisation; Bhatti
did outstandingly well in changing from the high–pitched and very girly, Sexy Susie to the low–
pitched, macho–aggressive bouncer, Ralph.
The use of ASYLUM, older actors and Yorkshire accents suggests that John Godber had a very
heavy input. The original Bouncers, first performed in 1977, was set in Godber's hometown; Hull.
Also, ASYLUM is an actual nightclub in Hull. However, Les' (Gilet) cockney accent suggests that
Godber realised that there is now a mix of accents and

Butoh: Recultivating the Body
Butoh – Recultivating the Body
In a scene from The Five Rings, an actor with a face white as chalk, his hair arranged in an elaborate
Japanese traditional style, stares out at the audience. His eyes are slightly crossed, his teeth bared,
his tongue hanging far out of his mouth. He meets the world salivating, spit dripping down his chin
and mixing with the white paint, his eyes unblinking. It is almost difficult to take in a person with
such extremity, such brutal singularity. This overt challenge to the viewer is part of what makes
butoh such a fascinating theatrical form. Arising in Japan in the late 1950's, butoh thrives on
mystery, provocation, and primal energy.
The word butoh means "stomp dance," or "earth dance." It was taken from a Japanese word,
butohkai, originally applied to ballroom dances from the West. The connotation of the word today
differs from the old definiton; whereas there was an idea of rising and falling in old dances such as
the waltz, butoh in its present meaning remains completely grounded, often descending as far as it
can go. Hijikata Tasumi, the founder of butoh, wanted his dancing to show the darkest side of
human nature, our deepest instincts. Thus, ankoku, the word often used alongside butoh, translates
to "black darkness."
Butoh is an ever–evolving examination of what it means to be human, born out of a time of rigid
unsurity in Japan. Its creators, the aforementioned Hijikata, as well as Kazuo Ono, wanted to build a
form that would

My Past Studies And Work Experiences
In this essay I will examine my current skills within my previous studies and work experiences. I
will describe how I may apply them to any possible future careers as well as discuss my career
interests, capabilities, education, work and volunteering experiences. This will enable me to broaden
my search into my future career path, as well aid me in my search for training opportunities.
From the ages of ten to sixteen I was home educated by my mother and myself in a broad selection
of self–chose subjects. I discovered that a singular learning environment improved my independent
learning skills, for I was in control of my timetable, schedule and study topics. This increased my
intrinsic motivation; for I found my own rewards in the subjects that I chose to study. I attended two
colleges over three years, during this time I expanded my learning abilities to include time
management with the selection of classes and personal development studies, resilience with the
assignments and adaptability with teamwork and leadership, also because of the three hours
commute I would utilize this free time with multitasking my coursework and studies. Whilst I was
operating and studying in a fast–paced performing arts environment, this gave me the sociological
and inventive mindset to incorporate my thespian background into my career choices, for I gained
an elaborate skill set from my acting studies which have assisted me in a range of consumer and
customer delegations.
In 2015 I began to

Comedic Improv Play
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare is a comedic live performance improv show and a
parody of the works of William Shakespeare, performed by The Reduced Shakespeare Company.
The first performance of this comedic improv play was at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (United
Kingdom), in 1987. The play was written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. The
three writers wrote the parody as a three man act. The actors that played these roles were Adam
Long, Reed Martin, and Austin Tichenor.
In the play there is no such thing as the fourth wall, they speak to the audience many times and even
have audience participation. Because it is an improv like play there are many parts that are not
scripted. Such as the humorous vomit catastrophes each time there is a tragedy, and a part of the
play where one of the actors refuses to act due to the vulgarity in the play name, along with many
other scenes. The play starts out with an introduction from the actors. They perform many, if not all
of William Shakespeare's play's, starting with Romeo and Juliet and ending it with Macbeth. ...

The Lantern Theatre, founded in 2009 by 'tiny Giants Productions', is situated in the Baltic Triangle
in Liverpool. Margaret Connell, current co–owner and Artistic Director, took over the theatre in
September 2011 (Lantern Theatre, 2015). The venue is in an old brick warehouse that is split into
various entertainment businesses. The Lantern Theatre is on the second storey of the building, with
only stairs– no lift– for access (Connell, 2015). With a performance space of roughly 6.5 x 6.5

As a fringe theatre, the programming is highly variable and seasonal. From January to March, shows
run quite infrequently apart from the first homegrown festival, 'Shiny New Festival'. January 2016
will be its fifth consecutive year of showcasing local talent to attract the community. The festival
was founded in 2012 by Director Peter Mitchelson to boost artists' exposure (Nunes, 2015). July has
a new writing festival as a preparation for Edinburgh In August which they go off to visit. Link to
mission statement. September to Christmas is heavy theatre which attracts more serious audience
members. Winter season is all festive shows in the build up to Christmas– the busiest time of year.
The sustainability of this venue is questionable. The programme is clearly popular, however, the
venue holds itself back from gaining large audiences to its events. Having only a capacity of seventy
five seats (in the performance area), as well as a very small bar space, it would be difficult to expand
the area to more people. There is no disabled access to the second– storey theatre, which limits a
number of people who may wish to

I can still remember what I decided to wear on that morning. Checked shirt, black jeans and my

Rowan-Johnson Hall: Theatre Analysis
Though theatre has been performed on UA's campus in various forms, by various students and at
various times for the past 125 years, theatre and dance became an academic entity only in the late
1930s.
It is thanks to prominent names like Marian Gallaway and Allen Bales–namesakes of two of the
theatres on UA's campus–that the department was birthed "as we know it today," Teague said. "They
were so nationally prominent that we have always been able to attract good faculty and good
students," he added.
However, that didn't necessarily mean the accompanying facilities were built as planned.
The current home of the department, Rowan–Johnson Hall was actually left "with a literal hole in

program came online around 2000, putting it "on the forefront" as many higher learning institutions
had yet to develop one; and Dr. Robert Whit's promotion to president of the University in 2003 was
a boon for growth as well, Teague said.
"We actually have grown a little fast the the overall University, but we have certainly benefitted
from its growth," Teague said, explaining that as the number of students increased, so did the
department's potential. "Our faculty only grows as our students grow."

Motivation Behind Why Tourists And Visitoirs Attend Festivals
This report will express and discuss the motivation behind why tourists and visitoirs attend festivals.
Throughout the years there has been a lot of evidence and research to show that the the Edinburgh
Festival itself is becoming increasingly more popular. There are many reasons as to why this is
however the main one being that there is a large amount of events and festivals within the Edinburgh
Festival that can accommodate all ages and variations of people. In order to effectively understand
consumers it is important to research where and why people attend the festivals themselcves.
Through doing this you can target a large consumer market which will in turn satisfy and attract
more people to the event. The famous Edinburgh summer festival is an example of the variations of
events that Edinburgh has produced in order to attract a wider audience and will be further
explained. Furthermore, the report will concern the overall background and efforts behind festival
and events, in order to analyse them as a whole there will be particular attention placed upon
Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh's. in order to analyse the consumers behind a festival and event
product it is important to initially look at demand, the demand includes both the motivators and
determinators which will further be described further on within the report.
Examining the key motivators and major determinants for consumers of festival and events product
will lead to understanding why people attend events

Production Roles in Performing Arts Research
Production Roles in the Performing Arts Industry
Artistic Director
Roles and Responsibilities:
Artistic Directors are mainly responsible for creating, developing and employing the artistic "vision"
of the production company. They are also inconceivably involved in the development of making the
production more aesthetically pleasing, often consulting with the Chief Administrative Officer.
Sometimes these two roles are combined into one.
Other responsibilities include: hiring, and constantly checking on and helping other artistic members
of the crew, e.g. the stage manager and performers; hiring and constantly helping technical directors,
and other important people involved in the performance; developing an annual budget for the ...

Most employment for stage management is done through personal contact, not agencies – you have
to send off your application to a company yourself.
Training/Qualifications:
To become a stage manager, you don't need any specific degree, but one in performing arts, music,
or theatre studies improves your chance of employment. Even better is a degree which is recognized
by the National Council for Drama Training, and some drama school offer specific courses, e.g. a
qualification in "Technical Theatre". A post–graduate qualification will also help further
employment chances. You can also become a stage manager without a degree, by starting as a
member of the stage crew, then working your way up the ranks, through ASM and DSM, finally to
SM. However, there is a lot of competition, and therefore this may be hard.
Practical work experience in a theatre is also very handy, and the more aspects of drama you can get
involved in, the better. Usually, SM's will be expected to develop their own training, as companies
cannot afford to do so, and most training will be on the job. There are three main bodies that offer
training for existent and amateur stage managers: The ABTT, The SBTD, and The Stage
Management Association. Useful skills for a stage manager include: a sense of humour; being
detailed; being organised – with time and documents; good people skills, e.g. influence

A Critical Analysis Of Edinburgh ' Fringe ' Festival '
My aim is to conduct a critical analysis on the Edinburgh 'Fringe' Festival, an annual event with the
purpose of providing a platform for unjuried theatrical performances. This event is an established
one and has been held in Edinburgh every August since 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up
uninvited at the Edinburgh International Festival and decided to perform their shows at the 'fringe'
of the festival. (Edinburgh Festival Fringe, [Accessed: 23/05/2016])The Fringe began to grow every
year as more and more performers turned up and performed their own fringe shows. In 1985, the
Festival Fringe Society was created as a facility to formalise these performances and create a central
box office. The society decided to draft a constitution that ensured that whilst they governed the
logistics of the event, they still operated within the ethos of the founding members of the fringe.
Therefore the society maintains a policy that they have no part in vetting the performances for the
festival. (Edinburgh Festival Fringe, et al.)This means that anyone with a creative act can perform
over the three weeks in which the festival takes place. So, the Fringe Festival has come to be known
for hosting thousands of shows across hundreds of venues catering for a variety of tastes and
interests. The Fringe has succeeded in creating an outlet for many people who wouldn't have had the
opportunity to otherwise perform in front of thousands of accredited journalists, art industry

which is dedicated to encouraging the growth of jazz and jazz audiences in San Francisco and
beyond. It is keen to give new, local talent a stage on which to perform. Originally a small–scale
event known mostly in the local community, the Festival has risen to national and international
prominence and features dozens of events of both traditional and contemporary jazz. It describes
itself as the 'crown jewel of American jazz festivals'. It is 22 years old and is held during October

"I like the ephemeral thing about theatre, every performance is like a ghost – it's there and then it's

Stephanie Bennett Regional Theatre Analysis
What is the Role and Function of Theatre in a Regional City?
To me, regional theatre means home, something that is part of me and brings culture to where I live.
I have lived in 3 different cities in England, each of them being completely different. Personally, I
believe that theatre emphasises culture and difference in a regional city. Stephanie Bennett explains
'The beauty of regional theatre is that the local performances are often raw and visceral in their
authenticity' (2016), this stood out to me because I believe it states what regional theatre is about.
What does it mean to be a regional city?
Lyn Gardner Explains in her article 'In theatre is "regional" a dirty word?' (2012) that regional cities
go beyond their distinctive tastes in food and how each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lyn Gardner talks on an experience in York when a cast of 180 people from the community marched
around York in honour of the soldiers in World War One. She goes on to explain 'Angels stopped the
traffic; people got up from their seats on buses so they could see what was going on; children played
around the edges as if it were the most natural thing in the world. People hurrying by suddenly
slowed, stopped and smiled.' (2013) this is the real and true definition of regional theatre and the
power it has to make a whole community watch and feel the performance.
The word 'theatre' has so much meaning behind it and its obvious to see that by just simply going to
two different theatres and comparing the two, each theatre has a different role and function. This
shows that there is so many different roles and functions with one regional city. There would be no
point in regional theatre if it just had one purpose throughout. That's what makes regional theatre so
unique and different to the rest.
Is there theatre that can only be performed in its regional

A Research Study On The Internet

  • 1. A Research Study On The Internet YouTube posed somewhat of a question mark in my household when it came pre–downloaded onto my mother's first iPhone in 2007. Only two years after its creation, the app's icon resembled a brown, old fashioned TV– nothing like the vivid, red play button that is used now. My mum deleted the app, convinced there was no need for it. I discovered just how wrong she was in March 2012 when at thirteen I turned to YouTube to learn how to sing 'On My Own' from Les Miserables for a school competition. It was clear that I rarely used the internet as my research history on my small but heavy pink laptop consisted of the welfare of Mekong dolphins (googled for a biology project) and clairesaccessories.com. After watching an array of professional singers, I came across the wide range of 'covers'– a new concept to me– that YouTube had on offer. Up until this point I thought the internet was exclusive to celebrities; singers and movie stars and the occasional X Factor finalist, but as I gazed into the small screen of my laptop, I saw girls within my age group, proudly displaying themselves for anyone who wanted to see. First I watched a girl named Carrie Hope Fletcher. She was eighteen and had blonde curls springing from her head in every direction, pulling me into her channel, 'itswaypastmybedtime,' which was packed with different covers where she even played the piano or guitar, and plastered in book reviews and Harry Potter references. She was like the presenter of a TV show that had been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adelaide Fringe does not run venues itself, aside from the Fringe Club. Nevertheless, what the Adelaide Fringe does do is encourage and assist other venues to be artistically and financially successful as possible. This includes assisting the grouping of artists with venues and providing scheduling, programming, funding, marketing and publicity advice. • 5. How Theater Changed My Life The first time I walked on to the stage of my high school theatre I knew I was in my element. Though as a 14 year, I could on the imagine how theatre would impact my life. Almost four years later I have participated in 12 shows, three of which I worked as a crew member, and the other 9 as an actress. My sophomore year I lived in Rome, Italy and discovered an English theatre program, through this program I became friends with 15 Italian high school students and helped them learn English while doing what I loved. The following year I moved back to my original high school in America, and due to the cabler of the theatre department, I was able to travel Edinburgh, Scotland and perform in the International Fringe Festival. This experience taught me dedication beyond anything I could have ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The discipline led me to be able to travel internationally and perform with my closest friends. Now as a Senior I am a student director and will direct my own show in April. I am so fortunate I have been provided with a program in high school that requires me to learn discipline leadership skills without having to think about what I learning. Every day I learn how to work with people better and how to be a leader without being told I am in a position of leadership. As you may have noticed, the word "loved" is in the past tense in this short little essay. Just as situations and people come and go in life, theatre is coming to an end in my life. I started off in theatre as a star–struck musical fanatic and by my senior year, I am a "director". I realized everything I wanted from theatre has been accomplished and therefore, it is time for me to close this chapter of my life a begin a new one. I think that is the most rewarding part of this process. I will forever be rewarded with the memories and experience theatre gave me and the ability to move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Tom Stoppard Analysis Tom Stoppard and How Both Plays Imply a Similar Message Philosophical Playwright Tom Stoppard was born Tomás Straüssler on July 3rd, 1937 in Zlín, Czechoslovakia. He grew up in Singapore as well as in India during World War II. Stoppard's Biological father was killed in Singapore, so instead of moving to England in the year of 1946 with his mother and Father, his stepdad had filled the hole that was left by his father. Tom Stoppard's education took place with schools in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. This was where he became a journalist working for the Western Daily Press in 1954 through to 1980 as well as the Bristol Evening World in 1958 through to 1960. In 1962 Stoppard became a theatre critic for Scene magazine in London and also began writing plays for Television and Radio shows, including "The Dissolution of Dominic Boot" in 1964, "A Walk on the Water", televised in 1963, and "The Stand– Ins", which was later revised as "The Real Inspector Hound" in 1968. The play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead", which was published in 1967, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1966. This play had caught the attention of Kenneth Tynan, which brought recognition to the National Theatre. Not only was it produced at the National Theatre but it was also produced at the National in 1967 and on Broadway in 1967, winning a Tony Award for Best Play in America in 1968. • 9. Personal Narrative: Burklyn Ballet Theatre This past summer, I was lucky enough to travel with Burklyn Ballet Theatre to Edinburgh, Scotland, and perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Each day after performing, my group would travel all throughout Edinburgh and nearby cities, exploring nearby historical sites and castles as well as attending performances, such as the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. After the dancing portion of the trip had finished, my family met up with me and stayed for an extra three days. While visiting Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, I became extremely intrigued with the line of Scottish and English succession. More precisely, the merge between Scottish and English monarchy with the rule of James the VI of Scotland/1st of England's Merger of the Crowns. Not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While walking to the train station from Linlithgow Palace, I noticed a mural of plaques portraying the line of Scottish succession descending from the palace on a small bridge leading to the road. I stopped my father to ask a question about how the line of descent transferred back to Sophia of Hanover after Princess Anne's children had all died, which led to many more questions; my family ended up standing on that bridge for forty–five minutes while my brothers and I eagerly listened to all the stories my father explained about the monarchs. Throughout the remainder of the trip, my father, who is also very fascinated with the history of English monarchy, discussed with me the details of Mary I and her son's lives, how in the end she was beheaded by her own cousin, Elizabeth the Ist of England. During my trip, I learned an extensive amount of Scottish history and how closely related Scotland's history is with that of England. I continue to read books on the topic today. I would love to visit London to finally experience more historical landmarks connecting to the kings and queens of Scotland and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Live theatre review of Bouncers Essay Bouncers; 17th of October at High Wycombe Swan Theatre. Bouncers is a comical, yet serious dive into urban nightlife. The actors use multi–role to play a variety of different characters with hilarious results. Throughout the updated version of the play, John Godber (original writer and director) highlighted his intentions through Lucky Eric's daunting monologues; we still drink too much as a society today. Nonetheless, the dated stereotypes and the use of Frank Sinatra and 'Thriller' did make the play feel slightly dated. The play list seemed to be the most updated part of Bouncers; the current music, including artists like LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, Stooshe and Rihanna, was very popular with the predominately young audience. The pace of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The steps used coming down the platform and going up was a great way for the actors to show their characterisation; for example, Sexy Susie (Bhatti) had great trouble coming down the steps in her killer heels whilst Ralph (Bhatti) took each step casually but eloquently. Ilkley, Reddington, Bhatti and Gilet executed the Brechtian style of acting almost perfectly. They immediately alienated the audience from feeling any kind of emotional connection to the characters; we were introduced at the very beginning and were constantly reminded of who was who through heightened gestures, vocal changes and direct address. However, Lucky Eric's daunting monologues, delivered perfectly by Ian Reddington, gave us some sort of emotional connection with the play itself. Godber uses Brecht's style for more of a comic effect as opposed to snatching away emotional connection. The four actors changed from role–to–role excellently with clear characterisation; Bhatti did outstandingly well in changing from the high–pitched and very girly, Sexy Susie to the low– pitched, macho–aggressive bouncer, Ralph. The use of ASYLUM, older actors and Yorkshire accents suggests that John Godber had a very heavy input. The original Bouncers, first performed in 1977, was set in Godber's hometown; Hull. Also, ASYLUM is an actual nightclub in Hull. However, Les' (Gilet) cockney accent suggests that Godber realised that there is now a mix of accents and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Butoh: Recultivating the Body Butoh – Recultivating the Body In a scene from The Five Rings, an actor with a face white as chalk, his hair arranged in an elaborate Japanese traditional style, stares out at the audience. His eyes are slightly crossed, his teeth bared, his tongue hanging far out of his mouth. He meets the world salivating, spit dripping down his chin and mixing with the white paint, his eyes unblinking. It is almost difficult to take in a person with such extremity, such brutal singularity. This overt challenge to the viewer is part of what makes butoh such a fascinating theatrical form. Arising in Japan in the late 1950's, butoh thrives on mystery, provocation, and primal energy. The word butoh means "stomp dance," or "earth dance." It was taken from a Japanese word, butohkai, originally applied to ballroom dances from the West. The connotation of the word today differs from the old definiton; whereas there was an idea of rising and falling in old dances such as the waltz, butoh in its present meaning remains completely grounded, often descending as far as it can go. Hijikata Tasumi, the founder of butoh, wanted his dancing to show the darkest side of human nature, our deepest instincts. Thus, ankoku, the word often used alongside butoh, translates to "black darkness." Butoh is an ever–evolving examination of what it means to be human, born out of a time of rigid unsurity in Japan. Its creators, the aforementioned Hijikata, as well as Kazuo Ono, wanted to build a form that would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I discovered that a singular learning environment improved my independent learning skills, for I was in control of my timetable, schedule and study topics. This increased my intrinsic motivation; for I found my own rewards in the subjects that I chose to study. I attended two colleges over three years, during this time I expanded my learning abilities to include time management with the selection of classes and personal development studies, resilience with the assignments and adaptability with teamwork and leadership, also because of the three hours commute I would utilize this free time with multitasking my coursework and studies. Whilst I was operating and studying in a fast–paced performing arts environment, this gave me the sociological and inventive mindset to incorporate my thespian background into my career choices, for I gained an elaborate skill set from my acting studies which have assisted me in a range of consumer and customer delegations. • 17. Comedic Improv Play The Complete Works of William Shakespeare is a comedic live performance improv show and a parody of the works of William Shakespeare, performed by The Reduced Shakespeare Company. The first performance of this comedic improv play was at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (United Kingdom), in 1987. The play was written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield. The three writers wrote the parody as a three man act. The actors that played these roles were Adam Long, Reed Martin, and Austin Tichenor. In the play there is no such thing as the fourth wall, they speak to the audience many times and even have audience participation. Because it is an improv like play there are many parts that are not scripted. Such as the humorous vomit catastrophes each time there is a tragedy, and a part of the play where one of the actors refuses to act due to the vulgarity in the play name, along with many other scenes. The play starts out with an introduction from the actors. They perform many, if not all of William Shakespeare's play's, starting with Romeo and Juliet and ending it with Macbeth. ... The venue is in an old brick warehouse that is split into various entertainment businesses. The Lantern Theatre is on the second storey of the building, with only stairs– no lift– for access (Connell, 2015). From January to March, shows run quite infrequently apart from the first homegrown festival, 'Shiny New Festival'. January 2016 will be its fifth consecutive year of showcasing local talent to attract the community. The festival was founded in 2012 by Director Peter Mitchelson to boost artists' exposure (Nunes, 2015). July has a new writing festival as a preparation for Edinburgh In August which they go off to visit. Link to mission statement. September to Christmas is heavy theatre which attracts more serious audience members. Winter season is all festive shows in the build up to Christmas– the busiest time of year. The sustainability of this venue is questionable. The programme is clearly popular, however, the venue holds itself back from gaining large audiences to its events. Having only a capacity of seventy five seats (in the performance area), as well as a very small bar space, it would be difficult to expand the area to more people. There is no disabled access to the second– storey theatre, which limits a number of people who may wish to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They'd come in handy with the amount of walking I was sure to be doing. Looking back, I can now see that what I decided to wear wasn't all that important. At the time, however, my fashion choice simply had to be the height of style. Imagine the horror of looking plain on my first day! After all, I wanted to make a good impression on all the new faces I'd see while volunteering at the fringe. Rowan-Johnson Hall: Theatre Analysis Though theatre has been performed on UA's campus in various forms, by various students and at various times for the past 125 years, theatre and dance became an academic entity only in the late 1930s. It is thanks to prominent names like Marian Gallaway and Allen Bales–namesakes of two of the theatres on UA's campus–that the department was birthed "as we know it today," Teague said. "They were so nationally prominent that we have always been able to attract good faculty and good students," he added. However, that didn't necessarily mean the accompanying facilities were built as planned. The current home of the department, Rowan–Johnson Hall was actually left "with a literal hole in the middle of the building" due to lack of funding when it was first built in 1956, and Galloway Theatre's design ... Training/Qualifications: To become a stage manager, you don't need any specific degree, but one in performing arts, music, or theatre studies improves your chance of employment. Even better is a degree which is recognized by the National Council for Drama Training, and some drama school offer specific courses, e.g. a qualification in "Technical Theatre". A post–graduate qualification will also help further employment chances. You can also become a stage manager without a degree, by starting as a member of the stage crew, then working your way up the ranks, through ASM and DSM, finally to SM. However, there is a lot of competition, and therefore this may be hard. Practical work experience in a theatre is also very handy, and the more aspects of drama you can get involved in, the better. Usually, SM's will be expected to develop their own training, as companies cannot afford to do so, and most training will be on the job. There are three main bodies that offer training for existent and amateur stage managers: The ABTT, The SBTD, and The Stage Management Association. • 31. A Critical Analysis Of Edinburgh ' Fringe ' Festival ' My aim is to conduct a critical analysis on the Edinburgh 'Fringe' Festival, an annual event with the purpose of providing a platform for unjuried theatrical performances. This event is an established one and has been held in Edinburgh every August since 1947, when eight theatre groups turned up uninvited at the Edinburgh International Festival and decided to perform their shows at the 'fringe' of the festival. (Edinburgh Festival Fringe, [Accessed: 23/05/2016])The Fringe began to grow every year as more and more performers turned up and performed their own fringe shows. In 1985, the Festival Fringe Society was created as a facility to formalise these performances and create a central box office. The society decided to draft a constitution that ensured that whilst they governed the logistics of the event, they still operated within the ethos of the founding members of the fringe. Therefore the society maintains a policy that they have no part in vetting the performances for the festival. (Edinburgh Festival Fringe, et al.)This means that anyone with a creative act can perform over the three weeks in which the festival takes place. So, the Fringe Festival has come to be known for hosting thousands of shows across hundreds of venues catering for a variety of tastes and interests. The Fringe has succeeded in creating an outlet for many people who wouldn't have had the opportunity to otherwise perform in front of thousands of accredited journalists, art industry professionals in ... The San Francisco Jazz Festival's aim comes out of SF Jazz's mission, which is dedicated to encouraging the growth of jazz and jazz audiences in San Francisco and beyond. To me, regional theatre means home, something that is part of me and brings culture to where I live. I have lived in 3 different cities in England, each of them being completely different. Personally, I believe that theatre emphasises culture and difference in a regional city. Stephanie Bennett explains 'The beauty of regional theatre is that the local performances are often raw and visceral in their authenticity' (2016), this stood out to me because I believe it states what regional theatre is about. People hurrying by suddenly slowed, stopped and smiled.' (2013) this is the real and true definition of regional theatre and the power it has to make a whole community watch and feel the performance. The word 'theatre' has so much meaning behind it and its obvious to see that by just simply going to two different theatres and comparing the two, each theatre has a different role and function. This shows that there is so many different roles and functions with one regional city. There would be no point in regional theatre if it just had one purpose throughout.
