This weekly newsletter from a kindergarten classroom provides updates on the lessons, activities, and events from the past week and upcoming weeks. In the past week, students worked on blending sounds into words, practiced with punctuation and word families, and learned about place value and subtraction using manipulatives. Upcoming events include environment-themed activities, a field trip to watch a play, and starting rehearsals for the graduation song. The newsletter reminds parents that kindergarten graduation is scheduled for May 25th and requests payment for graduation t-shirts if not already received.

Peek at the Week:
We worked on a group of sounds this week, /q/j/y/z/.
We are doing very well with using the sounds to blend
into words. During centers, students worked on
punctuation marks, word families and time to the
hour.
Students continued to work with place value this
week, using ten frames and now base ten blocks to
describe two digit numbers. We also used
manipulatives to complete subtraction sentences.
We also discussed how advertising works and
why/how it is used to sell things. Students got to
work with magnets and discuss how sound travels.
We had some soon-to-be kindergarten students visit
from Children’s Express and Head Start!
Coming Up
Next week is a busy one, again!
Students will be participating in an
environment set of activities on Tuesday.
We also visit PCI to watch a show from
Theaterworks. Heavy duty practices for
graduation will start. Students will now be
working on our class song.

Kindergarten Graduation
Mark your calendar…Thursday, May 25th, 6:30pm,
at Penn
Cambria High School. Students will be wearing jean
shorts/pants, sneakers and a specific t-shirt.
If you have not sent in your
$4.00 for the t-shirt, please do so now
You can tell it is nearing the end of year AND a full moon! Please remind your child to follow
school/classroom rules. We try to get them outside as much as possible to release their energy but
are seeing many poor decisions throughout the day. Thanks!
